A DAY WITH SELENA

14 February

The young wolf sat patiently down at the café. He wore a gray hoodie and baggy brown pants to hide his lupine features. He sighed and looked at his watch. The time reads 7:24.

'I knew I shouldn't have done this...' he thought to himself. He took out the brown leather gloves from his pocket and wore it over his paws. His silver eyes gazed once more to the bouquet of red roses and the box of chocolate under it.

'She always has a sweet tooth,' he reminisced. He sighed as he remembered the look on her face yesterday. He couldn't forget it.

"There you are!" a female voice appeared in front of him, interrupting his train of thoughts. He looked up towards the woman. Her brown eyes glow under the sunlight and her long brown hair moves freely under the winds. Her brown sweater covers her long sleeved green shirt beneath it. Her long white skirt is embroidered with pink laces that match the color of her shoes. She placed her brown on the table as she sat down. She left a sweet smile on the wolf that causes him to blush uncontrollably.

"I never thought you'd be wearing something like that, Louis," she chuckled. "That's so unlike you."

"Huh!? Oh..." Louis looked down under his hood. "Uh... for you..." he handed her the two gifts on the white clothed table. "Happy Valentine's Day, Selena."

"For me? Thanks," she smiled back. Louis smiled softly as he blushed once more. They began to chat about different topics as they dine their breakfast.

"Hey, did you know that Matt and Kelly got married yesterday?" she started a new topic.

"Yeah. I watched the celebration until midway."

"Then you must've seen the wolf-man they're with."

"Yeah. In fact, he's..."

"It's so bizzare. They even made him their best man. Those two could make friends with anything."

"Really..." Louis raised an eyebrow.

"What shocked me most was how he acted after the accident."

"Um... accident?" Louis gulped.

"That wolf suddenly growled at the three people behind him. He was showing his fangs and claws that it scared everyone. He even glared at me."

"He... did?" Louis felt his stomach stirring.

"Yeah. He also walked towards me. It scared the heck out of me."

"I see..." he mumbled. His eyes began to form new tears.

"Luckily, he went away after that. Just thinking about that gives me the shivers," Selena sighed.

"..."

"Oh, sorry. What were you trying to say?"

"Huh?" Louis looked up. "N-nothing."

"Is everything okay?" Selena stared at him.

"Y-yeah. Everything's okay..."

"Alright. But if you want to, you can tell me about it. Okay?"

"Okay..." Louis sighed. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah! Let's go!"

They stood up and went towards the amusement park. They visited several stands and enjoyed the shows. Selena was clearly enjoying herself. Louis, on the other hand, wasn't. His mind floated here and there, thinking about the conversation earlier.

"Hey! A shooting range!" Selena called. "You're a cop, right? Why don't you try it?"

"Huh? Okay..." Louis stared blankly to the ground.

"Look, Louis," Selena sighed. "If you're not comfortable with me, just say so. I haven't seen your face today!"

"It's really nothing," Louis lied. "I just got a lot of things in my head right now."

"Like what?"

"Like, how long has it been since we've walked and talked together like this," he told her as he paid the stand guard and picked up the black handgun.

"Yeah. I think I get it," she nodded. "It's been 10 years since we've first met. I kinda missed the old days."

"We've only been together for half a year, but you're become the closest friend I've ever had."

"Do you remember when we first met?" Selena reminiced. "You used to avoid me and everyone else."

"That's because I had a very bad experience with people," Louis chuckled. He held the gun on his right hand and fired the gun. The bullets flew and made a bullseye on every target as the two friends continue to chat. Eventually, the gun ran out of ammos, and all targets have a hole on the center. The stand guard gave the two their prize. A giant brown teddy bear, holding a red heart with the words: I love you, embroided on it. Selena happily accepts the gift. Seeing her so happy made Louis happy too. A smile crept upon his muzzle once more, and the disturbing thoughts of the party disappeared, for now. The two continued to visit every stand until their stomachs grumbled. They entered another cafe nearby them, the one they also visited when they're together.

"This palce brought back memories..." Selena smiled as she took a look around the cafe.

"Yeah..." Louis agreed with her. The cafe owns an old record player, placed near the table counter. It plays a classic tune from the 1980's. The three red brick walls surround them with only one opening, made of glass. The ceilings hang plenty of small pots, containing a small plant in each.

"Say, Selena..." Louis interrupted her train of thoughts.

"Yes?" she smiled back.

"There's something that's been nagging me this whole time."

"What is it?" Selena leaned forward.

"What was the reason the wolf growled?"

"Oh, some people say they accidentally bumped into him and sprayed a glass of punch all over him."

"One glass?"

"Yeah. You seem to be interested in him," Selena giggled. "Why?"

"Well, because..." Louis mumbled silently.

"What?"

"He's actually..."

"Welcome to the Shell Shack!" a voice interrupted their conversation. "Are you ready to order?"

The two of them jumped back, surprised by the waitress.

"I'll have the tri-state steak, rare, with mashed potatoes and gravy," Louis looked down on the menu.

"I'll have the fish steak with french fries," Selena said.

"What would you like to drink?" The waitress asked.

"Ice lemon tea," the both of them said in unison. The waitress wrote down the orders and walked over to the counter. Louis and Selena stared at each other and chuckled a little.

"You still like it too?" Louis amiled.

"Yeah. It's sweet, and yet sour at the same time," Selena replied. "So what was it you were going to say?"

"Uh... it's really nothing."

"Okay then..."

The two of them sat silently, looking away from each other.

'Why is it so hard to tell her...' Louis thought. 'No, wait! If I tell her now, she'll end up hating me...'

'What's wrong with him?' Selena thought. 'He's been acting really strange since this morning.'

"Sorry for the wait," the waitress came back with their orders. "Here you go, hun! A steak for the man."

"Thanks," Louis told her as she placed the plate down. He began to sip down on his drink.

"And the fish for his lovely girlfriend," the waitress continued. Louis sprayed the tea a little and started to cough hard, almost drowning in the refreshment.

"Sh-she's not my girlfriend!" he stammered. "She's just my best friend!"

Selena and the waitress laughed softly.

"Just kidding with you, hun!" the waitress smiled. Louis continued to blush under his fur. "Well, enjoy!"

Selena continued to laugh, even after Louis and several other people stared at her.

"Selena, you can't eat if you continue to laugh like this," Louis sighed.

"I know, I know," she tried to catch her breath.

'At least she's happy...' Louis smiled. The mood began to lighten up as the two continue their day. Eventually, the sky beacme dark.

'I guess it's now or never...' Louis thought.

"Selena..." Louis mustered all his courage. "Can you come with me? There's something I wanna show you in private." Selena oblidged and follow him to a secluded area of the city's lake. Oak trees covered the brown, moist ground. The sun was setting over the horizon, changing the white color of the winter sky into scarlet red. The lights reflected in the waters look like diamonds, sparkling under the beautiful light.

"It's beautiful..." Selena smiled gently as she enjoy the beauty nature has given her. She slowly step forward towards the crystal clear lake with Louis behind her.

'Well,' Louis took a deep breath, 'here goes...' He exhales and began to open his muzzle.

"Selena..." he whispered, loud enough for her to hear. She spun around and faced his direction. "I wanted to say... Thank you, for all the wonderful time you've given me. Today, and the days before."

"Actually, I wanted to thank you," Selena smiled back. "I've never had this much fun since I've came back from abroad."

"Really..."

"But, don't say it like that. You sounded like you're saying your goodbyes."

"This probably is..." he sighed. "After this, you'd probably never want to see me again."

"Of course not. You're my friend. What could possibly made me want to avoid you?"

"Remember when we talked about the wolf? The both of us have kept a big secret from a lot of people."

"That creepy wolf? The both of you are connected?"

"Yeah..."

"Are you two dating?"

"No no," Louis chuckled. "I never dated him. And I never can."

"Are you saying you're..."

"No, I'm not. I actually have something to tell you."

"What's the big secret that you two've been hiding?"

"Selena," Louis took another deep breath, "he's me. And I'm him."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Selena," Louis pulled away his hood, revealing his lupine head to her.

"I'm the wolf..."
