A Hope for the Future

by Red_Drakonian

Legal stuff: this story contains light yiff with a non human creature, and a REALLY depressed guy, so if this upsets you or you arent the right age for this stuff, please back off now. all chars are mine, so dont use them without askin. I miss anything?

It was a warm spring day. The tantalizing scent of pollen filled the air, the flowers were in full bloom, and emotions were begging to run wild throughout the land. Yes, love was in the air. And as usual, I hated it.

My name is Samuel, pretty much your average teenager, in a world not suited for me. A hopeless romantic, I got through most of my life to this point by climbing atop my many failures. I wanted to be social, to be accepted in general. Not to conform, just not be singled out and ostracized. However no matter what I did that was the case.

Romance. A major part of our world these days, the only thing that resembles the now long dead magic you read about in fantasy tales. I searched long and hard for true romance, coming close one time but failing due to my own inexperience and idiocy. But as is told in so many tales, life goes on.

I lived in a large house with a large family, yet still didn't quite fit in. I was always the one that stood out somehow, not a black sheep, more like how an oddly shaped birthmark draws attention from other parts of the body, such I was in my family. And as usual, I hated it.

To relieve the constant stress of the day, I would go on walks through the woods, along the brooks and streams that no one else in the area seemed to pay much attention to. Sometimes I'd lay down and take a nap, sometimes I'd just see where the streams led. I must have gone out there a thousand times, and each one always seemed like a new adventure.

Now, back to the main story. I was tired and depressed. I was alone in a world I did not belong in, and all I wanted was release I some way. All seemed hopeless, the cage of logic and science butchering the fragile magic that once ruled this land. It was then I made a decision that would forever change my life. I gathered up some personal belongings, mainly books and old dagger I bought during an immensely down point in my life with intent to end the pain, but through laziness and cowardice it never fulfilled its purpose. For some odd reason it felt comfortable at my belt as I walked out the door of my home and into the woods.

I walked for hours, tracing streams through meadows and valleys, deeper than had ever gone before. Eventually the stream I followed led me to a pool at the bottom of a series of waterfalls. It is impossible to describe the otherworldly beauty of the place. A great many streams seemed to coalesce at this spot and fall down into a single body of water, making a light mist in the air and sounding like the singing of a thousand angels. I couldn't help myself and took off my jacket and waded in.

The water was warm and pure, I tasted it and it seemed to fill my body with a new life, purifying it of all the muck built up from years of depression and anxiety. I laid back in the singing waters as I called them, and seemed to fall into a trance-like state. All my worries faded away from me, I forgot why I had left home, the troubles before then, and even that I had left at all. My home was here now.

Suddenly a movement to my left caught my attention, and I sprang up and looked around. I saw nothing. I shrugged, thinking it must be a trick of the light or an illusion of some kind and lay back down, feeling blissful once again.

I saw it again, in one of the many falls, as though someone were hiding behind it causing the water to flow around them. I got up, overwhelmed with curiosity and walked through the waterfall. The water felt good down my body, warm and soothing. I looked around in the small cavern, but it was empty. Again, I shrugged, but decided that I needed to set up camp. It was already very late in the day, and the soon the sun would go down.

I got out a sleeping bag and rolled it out, set out a lantern I found in the garage, and then went back to the stream. As I exited the fall, the sun had just hit the tree covered hill the streams flowed from, and the air seemed to light up, taking on the color of gold. This haven I had found became even more magical in that moment, and I loved every minute of it.

I felt watched again, but decided it was probably just my imagination. I mean, no one could have known about this place, or it would be full of tourists and sightseers, ooing and awing at the wondrous place, destroying the magic in the process.

Time passed, and soon the sun was over the mountain, and the world around me changed again. The water seemed oddly radiant, as if it was giving off its own light. The air around me took on an electric blue color, and just being there I could tell it was full of energy. This was my dream come true, a world of magic and wonder, and I had never been happier in my life.

I went back to my cave, and stopped. The energy of the place seemed focused here, as if I was in the very core, no, the living heart of the little realm. All was alive with an odd power, a sense of wonder and magic. Suddenly, an odd feeling came over me. I was in paradise, my own personal Eden, but that was just it. Personal. I was alone. This was not an Eden at all, for though I felt like Adam, in a world tailored especially for him, I had no Eve. I suddenly felt a chill, and could hardly believe in so perfect a place I had regrets.

I sat down at the waters edge within the cave, looking into the water around me. I saw my reflection, dancing in the water with energy all around me. I smiled and got lost in imagination, images of a girl I had once known filling my mind...but I shut them down. That was over and I knew it very well. This world was the real life companion on my dreams of a perfect home, but that was all. It wasn't anything significant without someone to share the feelings and emotion within me.

Suddenly, the water swirled, and in it, next to my reflection, was an image. An outline really, in a feminine shape, strangely familiar, but I could not make any connection with anyone I knew. She was beautiful, the very image of the perfect woman, and I knew I had some connection to this person.

I smiled, when suddenly the cavern filled with a blue radiance, and the image shifted to the center of the pool, and rose out of the water, her image standing atop the waters surface, looking at me. And smiling. The water was filled with lined of blue energy, and the feminine form before me was made of it. She glowed as the water, and I was shocked beyond all reason. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen...seemingly human, but not at the same time. She had wings as though she were an angel, and oddly pointed ears. The water she was composed of seemed to ripple in a manner that suggested scales, but again I was still in total shock.

She took a step towards me, and the reality of the moment hit me like a brick. I wasn't afraid. I stood up, and stepped towards her, seeming to mimic her movements. The next thing I knew we were staring right into each others eyes, hers, still composed of the mystic water, seemed more solid suddenly as I gazed into them. I felt I should know this person, but I had no idea at all. My mind was a blank. She put her hand out, and instinctively I put my hand to hers. It didn't feel like water at all. It was cool and soft, but defiantly solid. I took her other hand and for what seemed like an eternity we just stared at each other

Then in a flash the world changed again, dramatically this time. I felt detached from my body, the cavern replaced by a world of pure energy, just me and me watery scaled angel. I wasn't myself either. I felt stronger, healthier, full of energy. I knew it was beyond human comprehension, and that I had gone beyond that primitive shell.

The woman before me smiled again, and Leaned over, and kisses me. I could feel the energy flowing from her to me, and I returned her kiss with a passion I had never before in my life imagined. In this world, gravity was nothing, all was energy, free floating and free. We held each other close, and I realized clothing was nothing either. I felt her body, soft and yet seductively firm, upon mine, and then I lost all rationality at all. Passion filled my being, and I entered her body, both of us lost in pure feelings of ecstasy and we rolled through the air of our private world. My mind buzzed, and I felt as though I were composed of pure energy, and for all I know I was. All I cared about though, was the beautiful woman I had just entered.

She was scaled, but I did not find this odd in the least. I didn't care at all. I lovingly thrust into her body, slick, as though she had not solidified fully here, but it was warm, and it was tight. She made no sound, but her face told it all. She was in Heaven, as was I.

I pushed, deeper and deeper into her slender form, almost screaming as my seed burst forth, but I held on still kissing her, loving her, but as my seed left, the world began to fade. I looked around, not knowing what was going on. My arms fell through my phantom lover, and she began to fade. I screamed, begging her with all my heart to return, to stay with me. A melodic voice filled my mind, familiar but distant, just as the girl was as she began to dissolve into motes of blue light...

" Samuel...Remember this day, of what we shared. Remember our love and feelings. Most of all, remember me, for someday, this will be real. Then you shall understand. Remember, and hold on to what is in your heart. Farewell my love "

I was confused, when suddenly my wold, the swirling clouds of energy, rushed into me, but instead of being comfortable, it hurt. The last thing I saw, as all went black, was her shining face, still familiar yet unknown, smiling before me.

I awoke then, though I didn't feel as though I had been asleep. I was by a stream in the woods. The Singing Waters were gone, as was my little cavern. I thought it had all been a dream, that it was another of life's little mockeries and games on my tortured soul, but then I realized two very odd things. First, I was soaking wet, and felt oddly energetic, despite having not eaten in days. Secondly, The dagger I kept at my belt the one I had once planned to end my torture, was gone. The words of the water maiden rang in my head...Someday this will be real.

That day my life changed. I returned home that day, and knew all would be for the best. The stress I once had built up returned with time, but I had a new strength, an odd energy, that helped me keep it from overwhelming me. I was happy for once, and had a reason to go on.

And one day, my dream did come true....
