#1 of Lament of the Moon: S&H

The deafening ringing of the alarm clock pierced throughout the whole bedroom, sounding so painfully annoying. A hand reached sluggishly out for it, feebly searching for its switch to turn it off. It finally managed to shut the bothersome thing up after a couple of tries, the same hand returning to its bearer and helped her push off the bed sheets of her. She sat up on her small bed, covering her yawning mouth and scrubbing her sleepy eyes, as she still felt a little drowsy. Picking up the alarm clock and nearing it to her half-open eyes, she saw that it was exactly 6 o'clock in the morning. She sighed jadedly, whishing if she could steal a couple of more minutes of sleep. But she couldn't, and forced herself off of her bed and dragged herself to the bathroom to freshen and fix herself up, as she looked like a hurricane had passed by her while she was asleep. She pulled away the band that held up her long, lush white hair, letting it fall seamlessly over her back; before she took off the pink tank-top she was wearing, revealing her brown, smooth scaly skin that covered all of her body. She did the same to her short jeans and let it drop easily to the floor, following it with her panties and bra, and then piled all of her clothes up and placed them on a small basket sitting right next to a washing machine. She entered the bathroom and closed its door behind her, causing a cool draft that made her slim body to shiver. She then tip-toed on her hooves to the corner of the bathroom and stood under the shower, then immediately turned the valve and cold water poured down on her. She gasped sharply when the chilling water rained upon her, but she gradually adjusted to it and began to wash herself in peace.

After a reasonable number of minutes, she came out of the bathroom, all clean and fresh, with nothing on her except for a white towel wrapped around her damp figure. She reached out for another towel from her closet and started to dry off her wet hair, which was a bit of a chore with how long it was. When she was finished with that, she opened her closet and took a few moments looking through her collection of wardrobes, which mostly consisted of different styles of shirts, blouses and pants. She picked an attractive-looking mauve sleeveless top made of silk and a pair of black pants with detachable buttons around the hips' area. She put on her fresh clothes and sat down on her mirror counter, combing down her hair with a brush neatly while her slender tail was wiggling about randomly, like it had its own mind. She then observed at her reflection on the mirror to make sure she looked at her best, but then noticed a strand of her own hair stuck on top of the unicorn that rested between her forehead and her nose; which evidently proved, along with her scaly skin, that she was a Kirin; an extremely rare specie in this time and age that looked like a cross between a dragon and a horse. The young female kirin simply puffed the piece of hair away with a single huff and then threw a sweet smile at her reflection, she had a unique and special beauty that was obviously apparent to everyone else besides her, as she was pretty modest. She then wore a scent of perfume; orchid brand, picked up her bag that had her school belongings and went out of her apartment without having a bite, deciding to have breakfast on her way to her art university. She walked down the stars in her own pace and shortly found herself at the building's main entrance, quickly noticing a big truck blocking her view of the main street in front of it. It appeared to belong to a moving company, as some workers where carrying some furniture out of the truck. She stood in her place looking curiously, wondering if there were going to be new tenants moving in the building. She then saw the building's security guard, a burly Doberman with thin dark-brown fur and wearing his formal black uniform, including the police-type hat, overseeing the moving procedures orderly.

"Morning Hans!" the kirin greeted the guard in her usual cheerfulness when she approached him.

"Oh, mornin' Sasuga. Up early as always, eh?" The guard turned around and replied, smiling and taking off his hat in respect for the lady, a tactful habit of his. Sasuga smiled back at the refined Doberman, admiring his well-mannered nature, and even blushing faintly, her scaly cheeks turning into a greenish hue whenever she did. She'd only known him for about two months now ever since she moved into this building, and ever since he always treated her nicely enough. Add the fact that she found him undeniably fine-looking and physically attractive, and it can be easily said that she took a liking to Hans.

"You know it! Um, what's going on here, by the way? New tenants?" Sasuga wondered, peeking over one of Hans' well-rounded shoulders at the busy workers.

"Mm-hmm, you guessed it. He sure picked a fine time to send in his stuff! It's freakin' 7 in da' mornin'!" Hans grumbled, crossing his arms grouchily and looking quite disturbed. Sasuga winced a bit at that. If there was one thing she obviously noticed about Hans, it was his temper. He was like a short fuse that could easily go off if he was rubbed off in even the slightest way. Luckily for her, she never had the honor to.

"Uhhh, yeah... is he around here?" Sasuga asked and took a few glances around her.

"Nope, unfortunately. He's s'posed to show up later afternoon. And dammit, is he gonna have a piece of mah' mind when I... HEY! YOU CAN'T CARRY THAT THING IN THAT ELEVATOR! USE THE DAMN CARGO ONE AT THE BACK, YA LAZY SLACKERS!!" Hans barked suddenly when he saw two workers trying to lift a big refrigerator into the building's main elevator and rushed over to them, giving Sasuga quite the start as she jumped a little when he shouted loudly like that when she was simply listening to him.

"Poor Hans..." Sasuga sighed sympathetically for the hard-working watchdog, watching him harshly scolding the two careless workers from afar and she could see that they were very frightened from the daunting Doberman. "Oh shoot! I'm gonna be late for my first class!" She abruptly gasped when she remembered that her first class was going to start in just 20 minutes. She held up her bag firmly under her arm and dashed towards the university that resided in the middle of Burgstein City, one of the busiest and most modern cities and capital of Demor Island, which was a massive part of the whole world of Mutania. However, she stopped on her track all of the sudden when she passed by Beverage Clouds, a nice little café that'd become Sasuga's favorite. "Just after a quick cup of coffee..."

******************************************************************

Sitting on the grassy grounds of the campus outside the university building, Sasuga took a break after a couple of grueling classes, nothing better to do in her spare time than to sit down with her sketchbook resting on her lap, her drawing tools on one side and a salami sandwich on the other that served as a snack. She picked up her drawing pencil and started to sketch some of her own works on the booklet. Drawing was Sasuga's passion, and she was an incredibly talented artist. Her art depicted an amazing combination of sensible realism and surreal fantasy, and anyone who witnessed any of her works couldn't help but be impressed by her dreamlike vision. She took proud in that and strived to improve her artistic skills, as her dream was to be a well-known artist throughout the globe, and maybe open up an art gallery of her own one day.

"Just a bit over here... and..." Sasuga's mind thought as her pencil was adding some more rough edges of fur to the tip of a thick tail, which belonged to a silhouette figure giving its back. She was drawing an image of a person she saw in a dream she had two nights ago. She didn't recall many details in that dream of her, except for a view things that somewhat disturbed her whenever she remembered them. It was about her being surrounded by complete darkness. There seemed to be a lot of blood around, and she was pretty lonely and frightened. Then, two huge hands with deadly sharp claws were closing in on her from within the darkness, and she couldn't do anything, not even move or scream. The claws were just about to clutch their grasp on her, and the only thing she could do was to shut her fearful eyes. But before they did, they were sliced up to pieces by some swift slashes and vanished away. The only thing she could remember after that was opening her eyes and seeing someone standing in front of her, showing her his back. She couldn't make out who or what he was, he was hardly visible to her, the vision being mostly darkened and blurry, but she was able to distinguish he was wearing a vest and a pair of trousers, and had a long sword in his hand, putting it neatly to its sheath on the back of his belt. His furred tail swooshed to one side, and just when he was going to turn around to face her, she woke up from the distressing ringing of her alarm clock with a faint shriek. She clearly remembered how rapidly her heart was beating back then; she never had a dream, or more like a nightmare, like that in her life. She wondered who that 'Savior' was ever since, and that inspired her enough to try and draw him, even with the limited materials she had. Deep inside, she felt that 'he' was real, even if he only appeared in a dream. She just wished if she saw his face, and her imagination drafted off, trying to picture that reverie swordsman who rescued her. Strong, brave, daring, kind, and very handsome; like a real dreamy knight. Sasuga always admired fantasy-themed scenarios, especially their big, strapping and courageous manly warriors.

"Hey Sas! What'cha' doing?" Her envisions soared so away, the greeting voice that came from behind surprised her and made her yelp a bit with a jump, dropping the sketchbook from her lap.

"O-Oh! Kyle! You startled me!" Sasuga retorted when she saw that it was non other than her schoolmate Kyle stooping right over the back of her shoulder. The black-furred young cat, with some whiteness covering his muzzle area and right up to between his eyes, beamed when he saw her flustered, blushing face, crouching behind of her and wearing a casual brown jacket and jeans that gave him a somewhat matured look. He seemed much younger than most students in the art university, and that wasn't so much of a mystery, considering that he was just 16 years old, as opposed to Sasuga being in her mid-twenties. However, Kyle had an incredible intellect percentage for his age, and was able to advance through his education pretty fast. He earned himself a scholarship at this university, but sadly, due to his young age, not many took him seriously nor try befriending him. What worse was that he was an easy target for bullies, but that didn't last long, because when he met Sasuga things started to change for the young cat. She took a liking in the kid and saw that he had good potential, so she stood up for Kyle and became his only friend in the university, and Kyle couldn't ask for a better mentor. He highly looked up to her and admired her talent.

"Ah, your cheeks are all green! You must've been day-dreaming again!" Kyle smirked, seeing how apparent her facial scales turned green with his wide yellow cat-like eyes.

Sasuga blinked in embarrassment, "H-Huh? Oh! Well... kinda..." she smiled at her feline friend and picked up her sketchbook again. Kyle took a peek at the page she was just sketching and whistled.

"Whoa, cool sketch, Sas! Is it a new character of yours?" Kyle asked curiously.

"No, not this time. This one came from... a dream," Sasuga answered unsurely.

"Ohhh... but, why is he giving us his back? Is he shy?" Kyle bantered and made Sasuga giggle a little and pinch his whiskery cheek.

"No, silly! I didn't have a good look at him, that's all..." she replied in an almost sad tone. "I don't even know what kind is he. Beside the sword and the tail, I don't remember much of him."

"That's one awesome sword alright! Hmmm, judging from the shape and thickness of his tail, I'd say he's a lupine," Kyle predicted as he examined the sketch more.

"Lupine?"

"Yeah. Y'know, dogs, wolves, foxes... many kinds of canines? Only lupines have that kind of lush tail."

"Hmmm... you have a point there."

"I'm just speaking in figure terms, of course. If it was up for me, I'd make him a wolf. They're a lot cooler!" Kyle suggested excitedly.

Sasuga took another look at the rough sketch and couldn't help but agree with Kyle, as she smiled brightly and petted the cat's furry head. "Yeah, you're probably right! Thank you for the help, Kyle!"

"Aww, always happy to help." Kyle blushed a bit, but felt rather good to have made Sasuga happy. Their ears then perked when the school bell rang across the campus all of the sudden, declaring the next class. "Oh, I gotta go! We're gonna practice with a nude model, and I heard she's hot!" Kyle sprung up on his feet and said eagerly.

"Try not to get TOO distracted now." Sasuga teased her teenaged cat friend and his fuzzy cheeks turned all red.

"Hee Hee, VERY funny! Anyway, don't wanna be late, so catch ya later, Sassy!" Kyle waved to her as he rushed over to his class, Sasuga waving back at him while taking a bite from her sandwich. She then glanced back at her sketch and smiled gently at it, touching the jittery textures of it with a tender finger.

"Are you really a wolf, Mr. Savior?" she whispered to herself, as if she was speaking to the mysterious swordsman in the sketchbook. She wished if she could continue finishing her sketch, but she picked up all of her stuff and stood up; dusting her bottom off, as she too had a class she needed to attend.

To be continued...
