New Sunbeam Town story! I've been sitting on this one for a bit because I haven't had the energy to write much, but I'm glad to have it done and ready to post. Slowly expanding the Sunbeam Town cast, and I'm hoping to get the next stories out faster.

CHARACTERS

Farrago: a chimera with a mix of dragon, owl, and fox parts, and robotic prosthetic replacements for her left arm, right leg from the knee down, and her tail. A restless, inquisitive trans girl whose identity always seems to be in flux.

Zeke: A porcelain mouse covered in cracks. Afraid to move around too much because he's worried about how fragile he is. A shy, timid demiboy who has trouble connecting with people.

A new house appeared in Sunbeam Town today.

That by itself isn't too unusual. The town quietly expands in the night when someone new arrives, so there's always room for everyone. But usually the new arrival comes out of their house to meet people. Today's new house has been silent all day.

Farrago knocks on the door. No answer. She turns the handle...it's unlocked. She peeks inside. "Hello? Uh, sorry to bother you, but we're all getting worried. I'm sure this all seems really strange, but..."

She hears a small sound and follows it to the bedroom. She peeks inside, letting out a gasp at what she sees. A mouse made of smooth white porcelain is lying in the bed, but his chest is covered with a web of cracks, with a prominent hole in the center of his torso. His left leg is badly cracked, and his right arm is broken off, and has been set aside on the floor. He turns his head to look at Farrago. "Hi...sorry I didn't come out to say hello. I was afraid I might break even more if I got out of bed..." He gestures at his body with his remaining hand.

Farrago frowns. "Well I'm here now...do you...wanna talk? You probably have a lot of questions."

The mouse nods.

Farrago carefully sits down on the floor. "Oh, I'm Farrago, by the way."

"I'm Zeke. Nice to meet you. Um, I guess...why is my body like this? I don't remember what happened. Was I in an accident?"

Farrago rubs her chin. "Not exactly...I guess it's kinda like...this is what your heart was like when you came here. I know it looks bad, but...from here, you can work towards healing.

Zeke turns away. "What if I just want to lie here forever instead?"

"You can take as much time as you need. I figure you might eventually want to get up and do something, though...are you afraid your leg won't hold your weight? We could get you a crutch, or a wheelchair."

Zeke shrugs. "Maybe...um, one thing you can do...I think a few pieces of me fell into...uh, me. I'm hollow inside, so, yeah. Could you maybe..."

Farrago scoots up to the bed, carefully leaning over the hole in Zeke's chest. "Sure, uh, will it...hurt you?"

Zeke shakes his head. "It feels a bit weird, but that's okay."

Farrago gingerly reaches into the opening, careful of the fragile edges, and manages to fish out the fallen pieces. "Here we go. We could probably figure out a way to repair you...it looks like all the pieces are here?"

"I guess...set them by my arm?"

Farrago carefully sets the pieces next to Zeke's broken off arm. "Were you like this before...um, sorry, you don't have to answer that."

"No, it's fine. Like you said...I guess I was this broken on the inside before. Afraid of falling apart...because..." He frowns. "I can't remember."

"That's okay. It'll probably come back to you a little at a time...when you're ready. Are you, um...comfortable?"

Zeke shifts his weight a little, carefully lifting his arm to test its movements. "I feel really stiff...I'm afraid if I move too much I'll crack more." He smiles weakly at Farrago. "Kinda wish I'd gotten your transformation instead...it looks a lot cooler."

Farrago chuckles. "I guess so...it might take some time, but I hope you'll eventually feel comfortable in your new body."

Zeke smiles a little. "I hope so...still, it would've been cool to be a cyborg instead." He falls silent, looking up at the ceiling. "...would it be okay if you stayed for a while?"

"Sure! Anything to make you more comfortable."

"...Thanks."
