It woke up.

Many years had passed since anything came close to it, and the feeling was odd. Something was nearing its box. This something did not feel organic, and reminded it a little of itself, even though it was different.

*****************

Pop wagged idly as he entered the storehouse, exploring the facility. He was amazed how easy it was to go unnoticed, even amongst so many furred critters. He pondered his new pet bunny. He'd have to get back soon, or else the white hare might have changed colors on him, or switched species, though he seemed to accept being a pet a little more all the time. He blinked, finding himself looking at a rather cubic box, labeled in a spray paint stencil. The beginning of the label was faded and smudged. What he could read said "PROJECT: TOP SECRET"

He hmmed, looking around, "Well... no one will mind if I peek..."

*****************

It felt the being get closer, and muffled words, before the box that surrounded it suddenly creaked, and a whole panel of the cube was torqued off onto the floor below. It could get a better feel for what the being was shaped like, feeling the shape of the heat bouncing off it... odd, there was very little heat coming from within the being, as if it were room temperature. Like it was.

*****************

Pop tilted his head to one side. There was a sphere of pure black that had been contained in the box, "So... this is the Project?"

The surface of the orb rippled, "I am Project."

Pop perked, "Oh! It is good to meet you, Project!" He held out a paw towards the sphere, which began to shift.

*****************

The entity called it Project. It was as good a name as any. It confirmed this name with an auditory signal, and found that the being was extending a limb. Project started to form.

*****************

The strawberry lab perked as the sphere began to shift and warp. Before long the shining black had re-formed itself into the external shape of a Labrador, like Pop, though Project had no facial features, smooth muzzle and face, though it did have vestigial outcroppings that looked like floppy ears, and seams as though it were sewn together of separate panels.

The proto-dog held out its own paw when it was done, and took Pop's, giving a shake.

Pop grinned, shivering at the nice sensation on his paw, "Oooh... good boy!"

*****************

Project slowly released the entity's paw, sensing that the being that freed it was wagging his tail. It could tell now that the canine entity was male. For some reason the praise felt nice. The black pup stepped out of his box slowly, growing used to this canine shape. It would do well in this form, and the other pup seemed to like it.

"What is your name?" Project reverberated out the words to the pup.

The other canine's muzzle opened, curved upward like it had before, "I'm Pop. It's good to meet you, Project! I've never seen a pup like you before."

Project pondered the name, and slowly reached to rub against the winged pup.

*****************

Pop perked as Project started to rub against him, pressing into the rubs with a smile, "Oh, that feels nice, Project... good boy..." The red lab couldn't help but wag as the ultra-slick paws stroked over his form, as if exploring his contours. He pondered a bit as he was stroked, before asking another question, "Oh, who owns you, Project...?"

The black pup paused, the seams on its face shifting, giving Pop the impression that if it had eyebrows, they would have lifted, "I... I do not know... Perhaps whoever put me in the box."

Pop hmmed, before grinning, "Well, seeing as they weren't doing anything with you..." He leaned in close to one of the ear shapes, "Can I keep you, Project..?"

*****************

The black pup paused. Something about the question made him quiver... he was wanted? He pressed against Pop, rubbing into him, "Yes... I... I belong to Pop..."

Project felt the round paws of the winged pup starting to stroke over him, and Project started to carefully acclimate itself to the feeling of Pop's material, and it began to glow like a beacon in the darkness. He would always be able to feel where Pop was now. He slowly began to wag, feeling Pop's wing lower over him, the touch across his back holding him close to the other quadruped as he started to walk, guiding Project along with him.

*****************

Tristan was sprawled out on a red bench, rubbing his head a bit. He had to lay off the bucks. He found himself reflecting an old adage, you are what you eat.

He perked as the smell of strawberries filled the air. Pop was back. He sat up, rubbing his brow, between where prongs were now sticking out, squirking a little where he contacted himself. He saw Pop, the size of a normal dog, with his wing wrapped around a black pup, walking towards the bench. Tris soon saw that the new pup was... featureless.

Pop smiled, "Thought you could hide from me as a silver buck?"

Tristan blinked, then remembered, "Oh.. It's not my fault... I didn't expect the whole herd to crawl in after the first one I nommed." He said sheepishly.

Pop smirked, "Right. Greedy critter. Anyway! This is Project!"

The featureless pup turned its head towards the young looking silver stag, "Good afternoon. You belong to Pop as well?"

The strawberry lab grinned, "Yes he does! He's mine. Even if he doesn't agree all the time."

Tris blushed deeply, somehow having enough non-silver in his system to form red shapes on his cheeks.

"Now, you two get acquainted, I have to check on something." Pop gave Project a kiss on the cheek, before padding over to Tris and nonchalantly forming a leash off the buck's collar, tying it to the bench, "So you don't scamper off..." He winked, and gave Tris a kiss on his blushing cheek. Pop then melted into the ground, headed off somewhere in the city.

Project sat down, "The land and infrastructure here is all Pop, is it not...?"

Tris nodded, "Yeah, it is... He can form from anything and everything traditionally non-living here..." The tethered buck bit his lip, remembering what happened last time he was feeling rebellious towards Pop. Part of him wanted to rebel again, just to experience Pop's playful dominance.

A German Sheppard was walking along the path of the park, not seeming to notice Tris or Project. Tris was used to it. Pop didn't like anyone noticing himself or his pets unless they directly interacted. Which is what Project proceeded to do.

"Hello, you are a bipedal canine!" The black featureless pup declared, wagging.

The dog looked down at the featureless form, "You've got no face!"

Tristan raised a brow, "Well, that was insightful." He felt his attention starting to wane, before snapping back into place as Project's muzzle split open, revealing a slick gooey maw, drooling thick black ooze, before slathering a shockingly long tongue across as much of the German Sheppard as he could reach, which seemed to be most of him!

Where the goo touched, it spread, and slickly worked its way to coat all of the brown pup, overtaking his coloring and rounding out his paws, toes and fingers merging together into one plush-like paw shape. The buck stared on in fascination as the blackness spread, wrapping up the last of the bipedal pup, whose face flattened, losing eyes and features, before his whole body fell to all fours, proportions shifting to match a quadropedal stance. "Oooh..."

Tris stared, "Project...?" Both pups looked to him. "What did you do?"

"I spread." The original said calmly, his face having resumed its featureless state.

The new Project wagged, "It felt good. I like being Project."

The original wagged as well, padding over to Tris, "You won't tell Pop, will you?"

"I... uh.." Tris stammered, as the other Project padded off in some direction, possibly to "spread" to more pups. In fact, out of the corner of his eye, Tris saw the former sheppie pouncing a jack russel terrier. Meanwhile the original nuzzled softly at the buck's thigh. Tris had to admit that Project, after you got past the fact he had no face to connect with, was rather cute. And Pop seemed very happy with him. He slowly nodded, "As long as you want it to be a secret for Pop, I'll not say a thing."

Project wagged, grinning and curling up into Tris' lap, even as across the park Tris could see the spreading continue, more pups becoming black and featureless. They all seemed happy though, and soon dispersed.

Soon after the scent of strawberries told Tris Pop had returned... and he gasped as he found himself seated on his Master's tongue.

Project non-chalantly hopped off Tris' lap and to the ground as the buck was slathered and wrapped up in long red tongue. The translucent red maw closed up around the silver deer, and he was being slid into a very familiar tight passageway.

*****************

Project watched as Pop swallowed his other pet, and then formed again with his infrastructure. The pup then reformed again, at a comparable size to his newest pet, belly full of his anthro pet curled up snugly, wiggling occasionally.

"So, Project." Pop grinned as he padded over, making his belly full of Tris sway, "You get along nicely with Trissie?"

Project nodded, "I think so."

"Good boy. Now I only have to punish Trissie for changing shape while I was away." Pop giggled playfully, rubbing his belly as it started to gurgle a little, soft moans coming from the stag inside, making Project wonder if it were truly "punishment" or just play. "Naughty critter. I ought to lock you into one shape... Maybe a nice dal puppy."

Project started to rub at Pop's belly affectionately, feeling the form of his fellow pet getting melted down by the will of their owner. At the same time, he could feel more minds connecting to his own. Project was spreading.
