Chapter 4

The next few weeks pass in a blur for her, as the routine became pretty standard. She would start the day with her horrid food which she would burn or hide, She would get some free time to swim around, or roll in the grass. She would then have the experiment with the heads, with the wizard chiding her the entire time she could not control the heads. Some days were good, and she was able to get them to stop long enough for the goblins to get away, while others she would lash out at them, ripping the little bastards to shreds. Her nights were filled with Axton arriving with little presents of food, much better than the fair she was being fed by the horrid wizard. He would pull one of his books and read to her, and she would pay close attention. Smiling at the right parts, gasping, and laughing. She could feel with each passing day her attachment to the little apprentice growing slowly. It seemed things were starting to look up for her, the torture she had once known did not seem to be sticking its ugly head.

One day at the end of the current month, the wizard once again instructed her to enter the experimentation room. She did so with a jog, already aware at how to avoid pain. She grinned to herself as he mind was already jumping ahead to when Axton would arrive. He had promised the night before to bring her something called chocolate, and a book about dragons. She had no idea what this chocolate stuff was, but Axton insisted it was to die for. And I will certainly be the judge of that. She smirked to herself, her steps turning into a small strut of pride. All I have to do, is this stupid test of his, then...chocolate!

She entered the room to find him already there. His arms crossed, his foot tapping the stone, and wearing a wicked grin on his bone like face. She could feel that strut of hers suddenly fall away, and all her muscles tensed up all at once. Something is not right....he is not supposed to already be in here..... She felt herself shiver. Different was always bad with him.

"I am disappointed in you Infinity." He snarls in the back of his throat. He paced in front of her, shooting daggers with his eyes. "I thought if I took it easy on you, these chats with my apprentice might get some sort of increased focus out of you." He held up his hand and thrust a finger at her. "Perhaps even help you control your heads....." He starts to pace, placing his hand to his head and rubbing his forehead. "But you have stalled... I don't even think you are trying anymore." He growled.

Does he know I am already planning my nights? She shivered at the thought.

"It even occurred to me you might even like the taste of goblin." He give a slighty chuckle, but his eyes show no joy.

"You're right, I have not." She replied, averting her gaze and lowering her head. "I'm sorry. I will try harder." She fought the urge to bare her teeth, but anything to avert or lessen the pain she knew was coming.

"So this is how this is going to work." He gestured to her with a finger. "I am going to sever one of your heads, and let something into this room with you. Your goal my stupid dragon is to not kill it. If you do..." He pointed to the runes on her neck. "I will make those runes carefully engraved into your neck light up with so much pain it will leave you gasping and thrashing for breath."

She shifted her weight nervously. I did not know they could do that! She shivered as she resettled her wings against her back.

"So you should be able to emerge pain free if you only control your heads." The wizard gave her a wicked grin, as he placed his two hands together as if in prayer. "We will keep doing this routine until you manage to get it right." He put his fingers to his beard and gave it a soft stroke. "I will keep increasing the pain you feel.." He chuckled, "Perhaps I will even leave you like that for several days....gasping...thrashing....writhing in so much pain that you cannot speak."

NO. She shivered at the thought as she began to plead to her very mind. Please let me control the heads, please if there are any gods above just let me control them. She twitched her ears and bowed her head in submission.

"Good!" He said cheerfully, "At least you're in the right mindset. Just follow my instruction and you will be fine." He raised his hand, and gently ran his finger along the length of his opposite arm. It suddenly and violently shifted around in a tangled mess, until it reformed before her very eyes into a long scythe looking blade made out of bone. "Well, good luck Infinity." He raised the blade, and in one swift chop it sliced right through her neck, and severed it from her body.

"Now let in the next test subject...." is the last thing her ears hear, before her head plopped to the ground.

Infinity felt the same feelings as her heads reformed, and her vision became split between two. She blinked two sets of eyes, scanning the room around her. It seemed the blood stained room was empty except for her......she gave a sniff as she heard a terrified whimper from her left. She jerked both of her heads towards the noise, to find a raggedly dressed woman.

The woman was huddled over, back pressed against the wall. She was staring back at Infinity, watching her heads as they moved back and forth with every paw step towards her. She was muttering something to herself but Infinity didn't care. Her black head turned to face the other one that was a shade of green. Both heads bared their teeth at one another, and snapped at one another.

No....control....noo! She mentally screamed to herself as the heads continued to fight amongst themselves. No...no...no.. She repeated, and she noticed the woman was muttering the same exact thing.

"SOMEONE HELP ME!" The woman screamed out, "ANYONE PLEASE!"

She felt both heads suddenly lock onto her in unison. Thank the gods. She mentally breathed a sigh of relief, and tried to pull her heads back. Maybe tell the woman everything was going to be ok, this was all just a test. To her horror she found she could not move an inch. Nooo.........

The woman stopped her squirms for a moment as the heads did not seem to be wanting to snap at her, just eying her curiously. Her eyes focus on the heads, trying to shift from one to the other, not knowing which one to focus on.

Infinity tried to pull her heads back one last time as she felt them suddenly strike forward. Each one grabbing hold of a different side of the woman. They sunk their teeth in, as the woman let out a gurgled scream, blood dripping down her mouth. Infinity felt both heads snarl, and begin to tug on the woman. With a horrid rip, the woman was torn down the middle. Her innards smacking wetly against the stone with a sickening plop. Right behind was the pitter patter of all the blood, as it dripped like a river from the tattered remains to the floor below.

"Tisk, tisk." The wizard rolled his eyes as he extended a single finger towards the dragon. There was a sudden flash of green light as a brilliant viridian light flow from his fingertips and struck Infinity's green neck.

Her neck suddenly felt like it was aflame. She could feel her scales and hide start to crumble, until her neck and head suddenly exploded into a shower of green ash.

"How disappointing, Infinity." The wizard extended the rest of his fingers, and then swished his wrist in a circular motion.

"GGRGRAAAAAAHHH!" Her entire body suddenly spike in large amounts of pain as she recoiled on herself and collapsed onto the ground. Her vision was filled with nothing but white as she grit her toothy maw. It was like nothing she had ever felt before, and she could not stop herself from screaming again into the small room. She curled her claws on themselves as the pain continued, seeming to make every second take an eternity. She spasmed, twitched, and continued to scream for several minutes.

"Ready to try again my STUPID dragon?" The wizard snarled, and with a snap of his fingers the pain suddenly stopped, leaving Infinity gasping on the ground, her eyes widened in fear.

"I d-didn't mea-" She squeaked out.

"Wrong answer." He clicked his fingers once again, and the pain returned to her body. Except this time it was doubled.

Infinity spasmed as her tail thrashed onto the stone. Her eyes rolled in the back of her head as she let out another scream of pain louder than the last one. PLEASE STOP.....I TRIED.....PLEASE........"GRRRAAAGHHHHHHH" Tears begin to swell within her eyes, and then stream down her scaled cheeks.

The wizard stands there for a moment, looking like he is inspecting his fingernails as she twitches the on ground in pain. He stands like that for a minute longer before shutting off the pain with yet another simple snap of his fingers. "So are we ready to try again?"

No more....please... She breathed in deep, she could not stop the tears now as she began to cry before him. Not in front of him please....stop crying.....he mustn't see.. But she could not stop herself and continued to sob.

"I remind you we have ALL day Infinity." The wizard chuckled with an evil smile on his face. He held up his fingers as if to say he could do it again with a mere snap.

"O-Okay." she blurted out quickly. She took another breath trying to calm herself. .It's not like I have a choice anyway..

"Very good!" He clapped his hands together. With another spell his arm changed into the silver blade once more, and with a meaty chop he severed her neck from the rest of her body again. Her vision went black and the last thing she heard was a joyous cry of "Bring in another one!"

She blinked open her newly formed eyes, once again finding she had regrown a green head in addition to her black one. What is with all the green heads? She would have chased that line of thought further but she found something that drew the attention of her heads.

Standing in the cell was a small human boy who appeared to rather small. She could not tell the age, but he was half the size of Axton. Perhaps he was half the age as well? His small brown eyes widen as they focused on the dragon. He gives out a little peep as the stone door behind him slams shut.

"Don't worry my small child." The wizard coos, sliding over, wrapping an arm around the still scared little boy. "She is a friendly and pleasant dragon of mine."

Infinity tilts both her heads to the side as the small boy appears to calm down for a second as his breath slows. She tried to untilt them, maybe give the small child some reassurance she was in control...That she was a nice dragon...But she found she could not move her heads as they were moving on their own. No please....No....NO...NO! She screamed internally, trying to drag her own heads back, but alas she was a passenger inside her own head as the heads locked their eyes on the child, giving out snorts of air.

"Do you know what she loves here the most?"

"What is that?" The little boy says weakly, turning to the wizard.

"She loves to be petted on the scales...Would you like to do that?"

The boy does not say a word as he looks to Infinity, his eyes once again fill with worry.

"Here let me guide you then. There is no need to be afraid my dear boy."

Infinity feels her black head lick it's snout once with her forked tongue. No! She screams again inside her head, trying to pull her head back again. She however got the same non-response from before.

"Don't worry....She is nice!" The wizard suddenly shoves the boy towards Infinity. He bumps against her white armored chest, before stumbling backwards onto his rear. He lets out a surprised yelp.

The black head of hers snapped downwards, her sharp teeth sinking into the boy's chest. No...... She sobbed inside of her mind, her green head not joining it's black sister. I'm sorry....I'm sorry... Tears come down her green snout's cheek as the little boy lets out a loud scream of pain.

"Well it looks like I was wrong." The wizard snarls, crossing his arms and giving her a pout. "Honestly dragon? Now your your murder little children? How monsterous of you." He scowls at her as the black head continues to snarl and tear grind its teeth into the boy's flesh. "Well go ahead and finish him off." he sighs, "Or are you going to let the boy die slow?"

The black head crunched down on the boy, crushing his ribs within her maw. She looks away with her green head as she hears the little boy give out a last gasp, then go limp within her black maw.

"Well you were able to control the green head at least." He puts his hand to the bridge of his nose, closes his eyes and shakes his head. "It is still a failure though Infinity. You know what that means my dear.."

NO! I TRIED I STOPPED THE GREEN HEAD.....Her eyes widened in horror as her body twitched. I MADE PROGRESS...PLEASE!

The wizard did not shift his gaze as he snapped his fingers again. The pain wracked through her bones, causing her to once again collapse sprawled onto the floor. She thrashed and snarled, and screamed some more as the pain felt like it was three times that of the first time. She is left like this for ten minutes before he releases her from it with another snap. "My, my, you certainly are resilient my dear..." He turns his head to the door. "Now for your next test...you will be helping me test a theory I have....something that will help you control your heads..." He cups a hand around his mouth, and takes a deep breath. "Send in the next one!" he shouts out.

The stone door scraped open slowly to reveal Axton standing there, looking extremely nervous as he walked in.

"Welcome my boy...Glad you could make it!" The wizard clasps his apprentice on his shoulder firmly. "The dragon and I were just having a chat!" he chuckles. "I know how friendly you two have gotten with each other, so here you go. She wants you to pet her scales."

Axton's face is filled with worry, but it appears he lets the wizard guide him towards infinity.

Axton!.....PLEASE.....FIGHT......FIGHT.....FIGHT....FIGHT IT.. IF YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A DRAGON FIGHT THIS DAMN CURSE, YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE....FIGHT IT....OR YOU'RE GOING TO KILL HIM!

The wizard one again shoves the boy towards the dragon. Axton bumped against her chest, falling to the ground. He looks up in terror as Infinity's heads glare down at him hungrily.

Wait......He smells....different...

The heads lunged down towards Axton, who let out a scream as he scrambled to get away. He however was not fast enough, as both heads grab him on either side. With another snarl, her heads tug once again like the first woman, and with the same result the boy is town in two. However as the organs and body give way, Axton suddenly shifts into the body of a green skinned goblin coated in dripping, crimson blood.

"Pity...." The wizard taps his foot. "I thought that would prove a much better incentive.." He sighs, "Well if you want to take all day....that is fine....by....me!" He snaps his fingers once again, and the pain returns four times the pain of the first. The wizard chuckles as he walks out of the room and leaves her there to squirm and scream. She screamed and screamed, and screamed some more, until her gasps were ragged, and she had nothing left to give.

Infinity groans and whimpers as the pain did not cease. Every moment it felt like swords were carving her flesh away, as she curled on her self as if to try and will the pain away. For hours she is left in intense pain, several times she feels herself slipping into unconciousness. However each time this happens the pain lessons, just to keep her awake. Then once that moment had passed the pain increased and pushed her to the limit once again.

The wizard finally returns, holding a teacup in his hands. He takes a slurp as he watches her whimper before him. He snaps his fingers as he chuckles. "Well I hope you had a fun day Infinity. We will be doing this every Sunday until you get it right."

Infinity had no more thoughts as she collapsed onto the stone, sprawling out as her breaths came as deep ragged things. She could feel the exhaustion spread through her, making her feel as though she were five times heavier than she was. Her spikes all drooped as she tried to avert her eyes from the wizard who just stared at her.

"Now back your cage Infinity." The wizard waved at her with a snarl. "I do not wish to gaze upon the beast which has brought me such disappointment."

She struggled to stand, her forelimbs shaking. She grit her teeth, then let out a hiss as it felt like needles were jabbing under her black scales. She dragged her heavy limbs towards the tunnel back to her cage. She stayed low to the ground as she slunk slowly, stumbling the entire time. She collapses onto the grass when she enters enclosure, letting out a pained groan. She spies Axton sitting at the top, his legs kicking, and a look of concern painted on his little face. She averts her eyes. Not him....Not now.....I would have killed him.....I'm......a monster.... She felt the tears start to come again, but she turned away from the human so he could not see. She pulled a wing and placed it over her head as she began to sob.

"I-Is everything okay?" She heard him ask with a soft voice. "What's going on?"

If only you saw what I did...You would not be here...Talking to me...You would be running for your life.....Like you should... She curled around herself tighter, letting out another horrid sob. The tears were flowing like water now, splattering to the grass below.

"I brought you a whole banquet!" Axton says cheerfully, "I even brought you a creme puff!"

Just go away...If you know what's good for you Axton.. She thought back to his horrid scream in the room. Even if it had not turned out to be him, she had not figured that out until it was already too late. She remembered the blood, the organs, his terrified expression. She twitched her body, kneading the ground with her claws.

"Night Rising....do you want me to go?"

She nodded below her wing. She was not sure if he could make it out, but she was too scared to look him in the eye. Not after what she had just done, not just to Axton, but to the woman, and the child. She shuddered again, hating herself more than ever.

"I'm...sorry I can't help Night Rising." he says mournfully, as he walks away.

When she was sure his footsteps were gone she lifted her star patterned wing membrane. She saw a little basket had been placed in her enclosure. She lifted her snout, figuring he had lowered it down while she was hiding her head. I don't deserve anything you got me Axton....I'm a monster. She took a deep breath, and let out a wave of blue fire. The little basket blacked, caught fire, and was turned to ash before her eyes. I am sorry you wasted your time on me little human.. She goes to turn away from the ashes, but a small glint catches her eye. Curiosity fills her as she pads her way over, sifting through the ash with her talons. What have you put in here? Her claws grasp a small round gold coin. He got me my first piece of treasure! The tears start to flow again as she hurls it across the enclosure, it clattering to the ground. I don't deserve it.....I'm sorry... She snarls, curling on herself. She closes her eyes and drifts off to sleep. Her dreams filled with the screams of her victims.
