Chapter 3 Magical Maladies

Daybreak shined through the window and illuminated the room where the young fox had been sleeping soundly in his bed. The light caused him to stir and shift himself away from the window to avoid the beams of sunlight that assaulted his eyes. Liam groaned in his half-awake state, the warmth of the sun like a warm blanket that encouraged the child to continue sleeping but beckoning him to rise and greet the day. After almost an hour drifting in and out of consciousness, the little vulpine finally opened his eyes.

Liam sat up and rubbed his tired eyes, blinking as they adjusted to brightly lit room. With a yawn he shifted about kicking down the blankets to the foot of the bed, causing the warm sunlight to be cast on his naked form. The tired kit murred softly as the warmth washed over his bare fur, unable to help laying himself back down to bask a few minutes in the light. He glanced down at his body which had shimmered with a soft golden hue in the sun and purred quietly to himself, though quickly he noticed something strange.

The boy scooted himself upright to rest back on the pillow while he inspected himself. For the first time in his life, Liam noticed his boyhood standing up from his body, stiff as stone. He tensed a bit, unsure what to make of the whole situation as he cautiously gripped his stiffened member in his fingers, squeezing it gently and testing its swollen form. The boy nibbled at his lip nervously as it was the first time he had ever noticed his private area in that state, unaware that he had simply paid it no mind in the past whenever it happened. This time however, he had gone to bed stark naked and thusly had nothing to prevent him from discovering the strange phenomenon that appeared between his legs.

Liam nervously fiddled about with the stiff member in his fingers, his thoughts conflicted on if something was wrong with him or if one of many other things were causing this to happen to his private area. He eventually rose from his bed and padded himself over to the stone wash basin, holding his erection in his paw as if it were broken. He turned on the water which began to fill the bath, figuring it was because he hadn't had a proper bath in ages and that this warm water would remedy this new, odd sensation that plagued his groin. After a few minutes the water had finally filled enough for the young fox to step into the basin and sit himself down.

The boy breathed deeply as the hot water washed over his body, a feeling which the child missed almost as much as his soft bed. He glanced down into the bath where his stiff boyhood lay bobbing suspended under the water. His fingers wrapped gently around its swollen shaft and slowly scrubbed, to which the boy suddenly let go just as he felt a strange sensation shoot through his entire body that made his toes curl. It was like a jolt of electricity that caused his little heart to skip a beat or two! Withdrawing his paws from his groin, the young fox decided finally that he should leave it be for the time being and just hope it went away. Liam proceeded to wash himself as normal while trying to keep his mind off his privates, scrubbing every inch of his body clean while relaxing against the basin wall.

Just as the water lost its heat, Liam finally stood from his bath. He glanced down at himself, taking a deep breath as he did so. To the child's relief, his once-stiff "excitement" had gone back to its normal flaccid state. With the strange occurrence now freed from his mind, Liam hopped out of the bath and dried himself before happily slipping on his clothing. His ears perked as he remembered the spell tome and the staff his father had left his and his little heart began to flutter excitedly. Today is finally the day. Liam lived in the world of magic for so long...and now he finally got to participate. Finally got to become a mage himself. He could hardly contain himself! Practically leaping over the bed, the little mage grabbed his staff and packed the book into his bag before rushing out the door.

He practically jumped down the stairs, his little body feeling so much jubilation for his upcoming training, his feet even missing a stair or two on the way down! Running into the main hall where the other patrons were enjoying their morning meals, Liam couldn't help but smile even as the guests looked his way as they did the day before as nothing in the entire world could break his excitement. As he made his way to the job board the boy waved towards a familiar face, smiling brightly. Tinte waved back cheerfully while she tended to her guests, the bunny girl giving a thumbs up and an optimistic wink at the boy to wish him luck.

Liam stood in front of the board where many fliers advertising stores and the like were sprawled amongst the posters. He scanned each and every paper he could, wanting to see what stores the village had to offer that weren't a part of the marketplace as well as see what things the townsfolk needed done for coin. Quickly the boy discovered one notice that peaked his interest. Eagerly, Liam's paws snatched the notice off the job board and in an instant he had zipped toward the door, his heart racing faster than his feet could move from the sheer excitement of setting out on his first official quest.

"Will pay 4 silvers to any person that can find and return my missing pocket watch. Lost it in the Eastern Woods while hunting the other day. It's a silver watch with the initials S. J. engraved on the outside. Please return to the address below..." Liam read aloud from the flier as he headed east out of town to the woods as described. The Eastern Woods weren't very far from town, the boy could see them at the foot of the rolling hills in the distance.

The east woods themselves appeared to actually be rather small and widespread, the tree line only getting denser as it expanded to the forest south of town. With only about an hour's walk away and judging from how small an area it appeared to be, Liam smiled with optimism. As long as he didn't head too far south he figured he should be fine, after all finding a pocket watch shouldn't be that much of a challenge. More than anything, though, the young mage was excited to try out some spells from his father's spell book and the woods would be a perfect place to practice!

Young Liam came to the edge of the Eastern Woods, his eyes lighting up as he took in the beauty of the scenery. Rays of sunlight danced between the golden summer leaves of the maple trees and onto the grassy field below which made the whole area shimmer as the light reflected off the morning dew. Liam's feet darted along the verdant grass below his feet, slipping quickly past tree after tree. Every step he made toward his destination, the boy's well of excitement filled further, wasting no time in searching the grass as he walked. Thankfully the grass was rather short in the immediate area so he would likely spot anything out of the ordinary resting among the blades, however as pretty as it was the glimmering dew would make things difficult in trying to spot something shiny such as the pocket watch. As the boy walked on, he suddenly eyed a large area where the trees seemed to part into a clearing.

Liam started towards the open area and soon found himself at the edge of a small glistening lake which held a large grassy island at its center. At the middle of the isle stood a single grand oak tree that dwarfed the surrounding woodlands. In fact, it amazed Liam that he didn't spot it from the town by how gigantic it was compared to the other trees! As he circled the lake, he discovered on the eastern edge was a wooden bridge that connected the island to the rest of the land. Liam broke into a sprint, smiling brightly as he headed towards the bridge. The boy decided that since it was still early in the day, the area would be a perfect place as any to start practicing some magic.

The oak was even larger up close as the boy gawked in awe up at the tree. He felt his young heart flutter once more as he ran up to the oak and set down his bag, immediately digging out his father's tome and finding a seat on one of the many roots that lay like veins along the area. He gripped his staff tight in his young paws as he flipped through the back pages, unable to contain himself while he read spell after spell before settling on one he particularly wanted to try. He hopped up and held his staff in front of him, glancing once more at the spellbook to make sure he had read the spell correctly. He breathed in deeply and concentrated, letting himself focus on just what he wanted to cast. Pointing his staff to the water, Liam took one last inhale before finally, with a thrust of his staff, shouted out over the water "Freeze!!"

As the words escaped his lips, the gem at the end of his staff suddenly glowed with a white light as a wave of crystalline dust launched itself from the catalyst to the water's surface, nearly blowing the cub back in the opposite direction. Liam barely kept himself from falling flat on his rear! Opening his eyes, the little mage gasped as the first few feet of the water's edge where the spell had been cast lay frozen solid with a few chunks of ice floating about the water around it The boy trembled a moment as his face lit up with glee.

"Yaaaay! I did it! I really just cast a real spell!" Liam cheered.

Liam, unable to contain himself began to jump around with joy and giggle childishly before running back to the book, more than eager to try another spell. He flipped to a loose page and found another under a category labeled 'Adept Level Spells'. This spell however did not have a name, rather it simply stated the mental process required to cast it. The thought of what the spell could possibly do excited the cub. Without even a second glance Liam turned, holding his staff upwards in front of him and the page in his free paw.

"Let's see what this one does..." Liam whispered to himself as he closed his eyes, he could feel a surge of power flow through his staff and then suddenly, nothing. He opened his eyes and looked around, nothing had changed that the cub could see. The frozen water's edge was still the same as it had been, there was no damage to anything in the area, and nothing seemed to have be altered in the slightest. Not even an energy boost or the feeling of empowerment. Nor did he feel hurt.

Liam let out a sigh of disappointment, having really hoped something amazing would have come from the unnamed spell. He looked down sadly, only to suddenly gasp out sharply as he discovered what had changed that made his cheeks burn with embarrassment. "Oh... I see." The flustered little fox said as he brought his tail around in front of him, realizing just what had happened. Every bit of his clothing had just completely vanished from his body!
