"Sly Intentions"

The sound of a low flying jet plane overhead filled the air with an echoing scream as it hit its afterburners and blasted past the van. In a blinded panic, Murray bolted upright and immediately began to drench himself in a pool of sweat flailing his arms about as he tried in vain to look around at his current location.

"I'm--I'm blind! Oh no! Sly! Bentley! I can't see a thing! Help! HELLL-P!"

A hand clapped over Murray's mouth and the furry feel made him realize that it was Sly shutting him up. "Jeeze, Murray. Calm down would you?" He said as he pulled the sleep mask up and off the hippo's eyes. Murray blinked and his eyes began to adjust to the daylight filling the van. He gave a sigh of relief.

"Oohh man, do I feel embarrassed!" He exclaimed. "Thanks, Sly."

"No problem." Sly Cooper flopped back against the vacant wall of the van, nestling his hands on his stomach. "You're about as good of an alarm clock as that jet was. What was that all about, Bentley? Where'd you drive us to?"

Bentley was in the front, typing furiously on his computer. "Well, as we planned, we've made it to Megacat City and in record time too." He pushed the glasses up against his face. "I believe that plane was called the Turbocat; belonging to the pair of vigilante heroes in this city named the SwatKats. Chance Furlong; a.k.a. T-Bone and his partner Jake Clawson; a.k.a. Razor who, by the silliest bit of luck are secret identities to the authorities here." He snorted. "It's so totally obvious though to anyone who's done a minute amount of research that they physically match..." He glanced at Sly and Murray who were looking at him in confusion. "Nevermind... so we're here to deliver our own vigilante justice. We know that El Jefe wants to steal the Catseye Diamond from the Megacat Gala tonight, so our plan is--"

"Is to steal it before he can get his grubby claws on it, right?"

"Right. Since Megacat City is populated specifically by felines, it's going to be hard if not impossible for me or Murray to help you out with this. You can fit in a little more easily with the populace, so you'll have to do this on your own."

Sly waved a hand in a not-too-bashful manner. "Piece of cake."

"Now, hold on. You've also got to deal with Commander Ulysses Feral; he's in charge of the law enforcement and military powers in Megacat City and let's just say that he is almost like the Carmelita of the city. In fact, he's almost like the father of Carmelita Fox's dedication to law enforcement. He's even got it out for the SwatKats, calling them reckless vigilantes and whatnot. He's not gonna be agreeable to you taking that gem for safe keeping, Sly."

"Well then, I guess I'm going to have to introduce myself to him then, right?"

Bentley rolled his eyes. "I bet to a man like Feral, your reputation precedes you." He said. "Be careful."

"Heh." Sly said as he brandished his hooked stave. "Hey, this is me we're talking about." He said.

There was a long pause before Bentley even blinked again. "That's exactly what I'm afraid of." He said before returning to his work.

It was a bright morning across town as Commander Feral entered the headquarters of the Megacat City Police Department. Phones were ringing and everyone appeared to be busy on their own tasks, but taking a moment to pause in silence as the commander walked past each one, staring indistinctly at several individuals as he passed them. His eyes vacant and uninterested he turned his attention to a female approaching him with several papers clutched in her fingers. Saluting him in a hurried manner, he gave her a moment to pause before saluting her in return.

"Commander Feral." She said as she handed him the papers. "The Swat Kats are at it again."

"Trust me, I know." Feral said as he examined the papers. "Chasing those damned Mecha Cats through the city like it's their own personal fly zone." He sighed briskly. "As if they'd ever learn that this is my beat, not theirs."

"It's not only that, sir. But they are growing quite popular among the population; some even dubbing them 'heroes'."

Feral glared at her over the top of the papers. His claws digging into them a bit as he froze a moment to come up with a response. "They aren't heroes." He said. "They're a nuisance, always getting in the way of our operations; my operations and causing chaos. I bet half the villains plaguing our city now wouldn't be if it weren't for the direct influence of those bumbling amateurs getting in the way of good, lawful means of detaining and capturing them."

"Yessir." She said, lowering her head in a soft nod.

"Is that all?"

"No, sir." She said as she followed along with Feral as he started toward his office. "We are still waiting to receive your RSVP for the Gala tonight, the mayor will be expecting--"

"Officer---" He paused, realizing he hadn't even spotted an indication of her nametag.

"Katsun." She spoke with a blink of a pair of steely blue eyes. "Katherine Katsun."

"Officer Katsun." He spoke, maintaining his gruff exterior. "You may tell Mayor Manx that I will be in attendance. As if he would think I would let that diamond go out in the open without a thousand eyes staring at it."

"Y-yessir." She said as she jotted a note on a pad of paper in her hand. "Then I will send an escort to--"

"No escorts." Feral sneered. "I assure you that I will not need protection of something goes wrong. Understood?"

"Yessir." She said, giving him a stern salute.

Feral half-heartedly returned the gesture before turning and stepping through the door into his office. The room was almost pitch-black with the shades drawn and he had to stagger across the room in the dark. He reached and pulled the blind, recoiling back at the brightness of the sunlit sky immediately outside of his office window. Spotting a familiar plane in the distance, he scowled, recognizing the Turbokat as it disappeared into the skyline. "Damn SwatKats..." He said. "As if your vigilante ways weren't enough to get in the way of my authority, now it seems like you're getting to be popular. It won't be long though, it won't be long until your true colors are shown." He rolled his eyes and closed them to shake his head. "What else could go wrong today?" He muttered before turning to look at his desk.

On top of his desk was a strange looking card, blue with a black mask emblazoned on it. Approaching the card, he picked it up and turned it over to see a single word written on the back of it: "Tonight." And nothing else. Turning the card back over, something tugged at Feral's memory; he'd seen this icon somewhere before...

After a moment he spoke again; realizing: "Sly Cooper..." He uttered to himself.
