Cad wasn't sure that his friend played both sides of the field at the start of their trip, but across the course of this story for cadmium48, he learns the truth, and much, much more about his close friend.

While on a hiking and climbing trip with Hunter, a retriever with a perfect body for scaling rock walls, the pair run into a little trouble with the weather, and have to cut part of their trip short as they scramble for cover. They leave the cliffs behind and opt for the trails, where they follow their map to an old outpost, and thankfully, it's vacant.

After some quick tidying up, the pair are ready to settle in for the night, but not before Hunter reveals to Cad that he was hoping for this kind of privacy, so that he could reveal something about himself, and a certain part of himself.

As always, read, comment and enjoy!

Team building activities weren't good only for teams: they could be great for friendships, as well, and though Cad didn't think that there was anything wrong with his relationship with Hunter, he was more than happy to accompany the eager canine when he came to Cad with the idea of hiking up in the mountains for the weekend.

He was also under the impression that they were going to be doing mostly hiking, rather than the healthy dose of rock climbing that was thrown into the mix.

"You sure that your ropes are all in place?"

"I'm sure, Hunter."

"Feel good about your safety harness?"

It would have been easy for Cad to make a joke about how he thought that Hunter was getting a bit too comfortable with his body when checking the harness for a secure fit, especially when the tight, durable fabric of the device was forcing his crotch to bulge out through the front of his cargo shorts, but for the moment, Cad took the higher ground and nodded, before yelling "Seems pretty good to me!"

Sexuality just wasn't something that often came up, as far as conversations between the two were concerned. They were good friends, and it was no secret that Cad was gay, but he always assumed Hunter to be straight, and as such, he respected the boundaries of their relationship, despite being able to admit that he found the Chesapeake Retriever to be quite the attractive specimen.

"Well; come on up, then! We've got a long way to go before we find flat enough ground to set up camp on!"

An expert climber, Hunter was already at the top of the current rock face, looking down to Cad and making sure that the otter was going to be able to make it up to the side of the cliff. Powerful, thick muscles in Cad's arms began to strain as he placed his paws up against the side of the rock face and held tightly onto the rope; he was learning more and more about himself that trip, and it turned out that his mind wasn't too into the idea of falling back down the side of a rock face, especially when there was a mountain behind him that would almost certainly kill him when he fell.

The Adirondack Mountains were some of the most scenic in the country, but that didn't mean that they could be taken lightly, and as Cad's boot-covered paw slipped against the slick rocks, he was that much more grateful to have Hunter watching over him and keeping things in check. "J-Just how much further until we camp, exactly?" Cad asked, wishing that he could go back and keep the stammer out of his voice.

Hunter wasn't the type to judge, and he kept a closer eye on the otter as he slowly continued to scale the mountain. "If the map that I've got isn't lying, there should be a nice, even table of land coming up in about a mile of horizontal hiking."

"And how many more ledges like this do we have to climb?"

"...Three...? I think?"

A slimmer, leaner figure granted the canine with a bit more ease at scaling the mountains.

Cad was in great shape in his own regard, but the otter was thicker, and while he was riddled with upper body strength, carrying more weight meant having to work a little bit harder when it came to pulling himself up along the slippery ledges, and naturally, there were very few places for him to rest his legs.

The climb was already a bit of a desperate one, and it was quickly taking a turn for the worse, as Cad turned one of his amber eyes not to the ground, but to the skyline behind him.

"And just how long do you think that's gonna take?"

"Why?"

Hunter answered his own question as he followed Cad's stare out to the sky: dark, heavy clouds were rolling in fast, and though they'd gathered fairly rapidly, he was wondering how he didn't notice them before.

"The storm isn't gonna wait for us," Hunter pointed out needlessly. "I don't think we're quite gonna make it to the designated campgrounds before that's right on top of us."

The retriever leaned over the edge of the cliff and reached down as Cad approached the summit. The otter was happy for the help, and smiled at the suddenly nervous looking canine as he was pulled up to the ledge.

"So basically, we're gonna have to run to the next rock face, and hope that the storm isn't moving faster than we are," Cad murmured, not sounding too excited about the prospect.

"Probably not the best idea," Hunter argued, "Since we're gonna have to set up a safety line for you on at least two of the three climbs, and wet tools aren't exactly the safest to use..."

Near as they were to the top of the mountain, neither the otter or the canine really wanted to halt their progress, and with the storm moving in behind them, they could just imagine what a gorgeous view they would be treated to.

Climbing the side of a rock face with streams of water running down it, however, didn't appeal much to Cad, and even Hunter would have trouble with a couple of them.

"Then what are we gonna do, exactly? It's not like we can start climbing back down right now!"

If the storm didn't catch up to them first, darkness would be upon them soon, and that could easily prove to be just as deadly as the moisture.

The trip was Hunter's idea, and he could feel the pressure from Cad to figure out a way out of the mess. Immediately, he buried his muzzle into the map, and started looking for an alternate route to the top of the mountain.

"I think that the trail itself might be off limits, or at least, it's not in great condition, but there is a separate path that veers off to the right, and comes to some kind of old outpost. We wouldn't be able to set up the tent near there, I don't think, but at least we'd have some kind of shelter."

Moving faster than either of the men were anticipating, Cad put out one of his paws and felt for a rain drop, right as the drizzle began to fall. The radiant beams of gold and orange that were granted to them by a heavenly sunset were slowly being swallowed up by the darkness of the ominous clouds that approached, and for a moment, Hunter was entirely downtrodden by the turn of events.

"Let's give it a shot," Cad encouraged the canine to take a chance, as he stood upright next to his buddy and gave him a quick pat on the shoulder. "It's better than standing around getting soaked for no reason, right?"

A tiny, but genuine smile began to spread across Hunter's muzzle, and his tail gave the softest of wags as he nodded in agreement. "Yeah...maybe it'll be an even better view of the sunset than the one from the very top!"

Cad snickered. "Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, now."

**

The rest of the path would have been fairly easy, despite the narrow, uneven trails and the loose gravel upon them.

When the rain started to fall, however, and small creeks began to form across the hiking trail, creating waterfalls off of the side of tiny ledges, however, the journey ahead became treacherous. Cad found that he was the one to lead the way; his expertise in hiking was far greater, and though Hunter was in great shape, he didn't quite have the fortitude in his legs to deal with the bumbling roots, uneven terrain and slick pratfalls of the ground beneath his footpaws.

"I think I can see the house!" Cad yelled, knowing that the falling rain would drown out his voice, otherwise. "It looks pretty deserted from here!"

Through sheets of driving rain, Cad and Hunter could see the outline of an old, wooden structure, clearly left in a state of forgotten disrepair.

The pair of weary travelers could feel bits and pieces of the watch house as they came closer to it, as their boots crunched upon old, decrepit shingles that had fallen from the roof, and tiny panes of glass from broken windows were shattered under their gait as they continued to approach.

"I'm not so sure that thing is gonna survive the storm!" Hunter called back as he followed closely, never wanting to be out of the reach of the otter in front of him. They were further from the cliffs than they were before, but Hunter knew that he was still just one stumble from going over the edge, and this far back off of the beaten paths, they'd be lucky to ever find his body, if he were to drop. "Is there anywhere else we can go?"

"Do you feel like setting up a tent in this storm?!" Cad exclaimed, and as he spoke, lightning bolts illuminated the small forest around the cabin, showing little area for a tent to be erected in the first place.

The domineering Kraaaaaaaackow of thunder across the peak of the mountain left Hunter to jump in place, and as his footpaws came down with a splash, he immediately ran forward, determined to make it to the house before the next lightning strike came.

So much for looking for better shelter, Cad thought, and a snicker crossed his face as he picked up the pace, as well, jogging upon the path as it flattened out. He kept his speed in check, however; the dirt was quickly forming into small puddles of mud, and an ankle sprain at the bottom of the mountain was much easier to deal with than one at the top.

Perhaps needlessly, Hunter knocked on the wooden door to the building, and naturally, after just a few seconds, there was no answer. There were no lights on in the outpost, and Cad could only find a single wire running to the building, meaning that the odds of finding an Internet connection were slim to none, and even the possibility of a phone line was unlikely, at best.

Impatiently, Hunter turned the handle to the front door and pushed it inward. The inside of the cabin was every bit as dark as he expected, and the flashlight mounted on the shoulder of his backpack quickly illuminated every corner of the small structure.

There were barely even signs of life inside: A plain, twin bed sat against the far wall, and the once white sheets were gray with dust. A desk that was likely used to hold records sat against the far wall, and rain splashed in upon it through the holes in the window above it.

Everything else that would have made the house hospitable over the years was clearly taken by the last person who lived or worked there, and on the far wall, a fireplace sat with the last couple logs that were intended to be burned.

"We could definitely do worse than this," Cad pointed out, trying to keep their spirits high as he stepped in behind Hunter and closed the door. They were already soaked from head to toe, and letting in anymore of the cool, crisp mountain air than they needed to was only going to lead to a greater risk of hypothermia. "Once we get a fire started in here, we should be good to throw down a couple of blankets and hold out for the night."

While Hunter was more the daredevil of the group, Cad was the one to keep a head on his shoulders in a tight situation, and the canine was glad his friend was so resourceful. "If we can find a way to block off that window, it'll actually be pretty nice in here," he agreed, as he shrugged the heavy burden of his backpack to the dusty floor of the cabin.

There was no broom or anything of the sort to clear away all of the mess that had gathered over the years, but for the evening, it would suffice, and some fresh air in the morning would take care of any sore throats or coughs that the pair would develop overnight.

It was cozy, and if Cad were with the right partner, he had a feeling that he would have found the moment to be entirely romantic.

"Heh...shame that you didn't come all this way with a chick, huh?" Cad asked, wanting to keep the mood elevated as he began unpacking his things. There was a flint and steel in one of his pockets, and as long as the wood by the fireplace was dry, it would light right up with a few sparks.

Hunter was glad for the overwhelming sound of rain upon the house, as it drowned the quiet gulp in the back of his throat. "Y...Yeah, it's a real shame. I'm sure this would have been a great place to take someone like that," he tried to agree, but his words came out with a bit of a falter.

For the moment, Cad chalked it up to the stressful climb that came before, and shrugged it off as he approached the fireplace. "So, who are you seeing these days, anyway?"

The pair of friends rarely talked about the finer details of their dating lives, but every now and again, Cad felt some curiosity about who Hunter was chasing after, and it only seemed appropriate to show that interest in a time when both males could use a lift.

"No one in specific, really. I guess I'm kinda playing the field," Hunter admitted, feeling a bit more confident in his answer. "There's a nice girl who's working at the desk across from me who I've been trying to talk to a little bit, and there's this really cute guy who-

"Wait a minute. Guy?"

Cad looked up from the fireplace in the middle of a stroke across the flint, and sparks flew across the dry, dusty logs before catching on tiny fibers, leaving a series of soft, orange lights, that grew into a subtle, spreading flame.

"Y-yeah, a guy," Hunter stammered out. "An otter, more specifically."

The otter was glad that the fire was taking, giving him the opportunity to turn back fully from the fireplace and stare at Hunter, who was leaning against a wall in the building, with no furniture to sit upon other than the disgusting bed.

"Hunter, are you...are you gay?"

Despite his nerves before, it was Hunter who chuckled quietly this time. "I wasn't making up the girl to confuse you, Cad. I'm not gay...just very bisexual, and very much looking to enjoy myself at the moment while I'm not tied down to anyone."

Somehow, Cad wasn't entirely shocked that his friend wasn't the ladykiller that he'd always imagined, but after so many years of sharing almost everything with each other, it came as a bit of a surprise that Hunter had never mentioned his sexuality to the otter before.

"And you chose just now to tell me this, because...?"

"Because we're up in the mountains, away from anyone else, forced to stick out the night together...is there really a better time to admit something so personal?"

"Well, I guess not, bu-

"And that I might be a little bit attracted to you?"

Plenty of people would go on to say that they married their best friend, later on in life.

The idea of one of his own best friends suddenly taking a romantic interest in him was odd to Cad, but if the otter said that he wasn't attracted to Hunter for the entirety of their friendship, he would have been a complete and utter liar.

"You know, Hunter...you could have mentioned this ages ago. I wouldn't have judged you for it."

"I didn't think you would have," Hunter agreed, "But that doesn't change that I was looking for the perfect moment. It's not like I was admitting this to some random stranger over coffee, y'know. One of my best friends deserves better treatment than that."

Flattered, but still awestruck by the fact that Hunter was even remotely interested in him, Cad brushed a nervous pawtip along the side of his own muzzle and cast his gaze to the side, showing off a bashful expression that was rarely seen on his face. "S-so...this is probably a good time to admit that I was staring at your butt the entire time you were climbing up the rock walls this afternoon?"

"I'd say it's a pretty good time for that...and to be fair, I was ogling your junk pretty much the whole time that I was helping you into your safety harness."

Both of the males stood and chuckled nervously at the subtle epiphany. Cad was always aware of his own attraction to Hunter, but he'd never guessed that his canine friend was into him in such a way, and now that he had the information, the entire trip into the mountains felt like a date that neither one of them was quite able to admit to having planned on purpose.

"It's probably also a good time to remind you that we're gonna catch a cold if we stay in these clothes much longer," Hunter pointed out. "Once the fire is going brightly enough, we should be plenty warm for the night if we stay huddled up close to it."

Cad chuckled as he gave a nod of agreement. "It'll be there soon. The wood was surprisingly dry, actually."

Never would have guessed that I'd literally be lying on the floor with you, down by the fire, Cad thought. It's almost too cheesy to be real, and yet...this couldn't have been more organic.

Shrugging his tank top off and tossing it to the floor, Hunter made it clear that he wasn't interested in keeping the piece of clothing when he wrapped it around one of his footpaws and began using it to clear the aged layer of dust upon the floor. He didn't bother with the entire outpost, but at the very least, he moved in front of the fire, and the soft, calming glow of yellow-orange upon his fur illuminated him to Cad like a heavenly target, as if the elements themselves were telling him to go after the less than subtle hints that he was dropping.

"I figure that's enough space for the both of us to rest here without getting dusty," he murmured, before kicking his tank top over to the corner of the outpost, with the rest of his things. "The fire should have the rest of the floor dried up pretty quick, too..."

Without warning, Hunter began sliding his shorts down from his hips, and though he would normally have been the aggressor of the two, Cad nearly shielded his eyes as his friend began stripping down what was left of his own modesty.

"J...Just like that, huh?"

"Hm?"

"You're going to get naked in here, just like that? Really?"

"We've got the door blocked off, and there's no one else around for miles...not to mention that I know that you're into me, now. I don't really have much to lose, do I?"

Cad found it difficult to argue with the train of thought as Hunter shimmied out of his tight, soaked boxers and kicked them away, revealing the softer fur upon his sheath and the fluff upon his sack as if he'd gone through the routine with the otter a dozen times before, already.

"The ball is in your court now, Cad. I...I want this, too, but if you're not sure, I understand," Hunter assured his friend, giving him the opportunity to make a move, but releasing the pressure at the same time. "We'll need to rest up if we're gonna make it back down the mountain tomorrow morning, but for now, I'm curling up by this fire, and drying myself off. You're more than welcome to join me."

Already stepping out of his boots and shrugging his way out of his own tank top, Cad didn't want to seem too eager, but he was beside himself with excitement that was difficult to contain.

"You say the ball is in my court, Hunter?"

The canine leaned down to all fours and spun in a few circles in front of the fireplace until he found a position that made him comfortable, before looking back over his shoulder at Cad, all while giving a quick flicker of the tail, leaving it just slightly lifted. "That's right."

"How about I put it back in yours?"

Cad scarcely took the time to step out of his shorts before he was nearly tripping over his own cock as vital warmth rushed to it. With each step he took, it throbbed with excited purpose, and there was no denying the hunger and lust in Hunter's eyes as he got his first look at it.

"That was pretty damned cheesy," Hunter complained, "But I think I can let it slip, this time around..."

"So eager that you're willing to put up with a little wordplay just to get your ass fucked?"

Hunter snickered. "Says the guy who's about to fuck one of his friends that he just found out was bisexual."

Wet clothes hit the ground with a heavy schmack, and Cad stepped out of what fabric was left before he knelt down behind Hunter. The canine was curled up mostly on his side, but his rump was kicked up and out enough that Cad was able to slide in right behind it and rest his lap against Hunter's thighs.

"Doesn't mean that I haven't been thinking about this for a long time, Hunter. You have no idea how many times I've fantasized about getting to do this to you."

"You're giving me a pretty strong hint, though."

Hunter knew that his face was flushed with a warmth that was greater than the fire that his muzzle rested near. He could feel the very tip of the otter's impressive, thick cock pulsing against the back of his thighs and dripping precum into his fur, and he was grateful for the latter; there was no lube in his pack, and just from a few gentle, teasing jabs, he could tell that he was going to struggle with taking Cad's full length.

It was a struggle that he knew he would enjoy, however, and he smiled inwardly as he looked back over his shoulder at a friend that had never let him down before, even in the darkest of hours.

"You don't seem to mind my hint whatsoever," Cad pointed out. Time and time again, the otter was there for the retriever when things were truly difficult, and that evening was no exception, as Hunter had no idea how he would have made it to safety in the storm without Cad to guide his path.

Now, he was offering the otter a new challenge...being up to the task of satisfying a lust that had been building over the weeks of a long, tiresome dry spell.

"The only thing I mind is that you're teasing me with it," Hunter admitted. "I'd like it a lot better if you stopped dropping hints and just got to the point!"

Precum warmed up the cool, smooth moisture upon Hunter's pucker, left behind by the rain that had fallen upon his body. The fire was drying out his fur, but the contact of his best friend's member against his tailhole provided a different kind of warmth, and one that he was far more desperate for.

Reaching back to spread his rump a little wider for Cad, Hunter gave a tiny, but eager series of nods as he felt the otter poking cautiously at the tight, gripping entrance.

"Just...j-just go slow, at first," Hunter began moaning before the tip was even inside of him, as the ticklish pleasure of having his anus massaged in such a way left him gasping and biting down on his lower lip. "I'm sure I c...can take it..."

Cad wasn't arrogant, necessarily, but he knew that he was packing plenty of size where it mattered, and he couldn't help a prideful grin crossing his muzzle as he wrapped an arm around Hunter's waist and spooned him delicately. The flared tip of his cock was just starting to penetrate the slim, lithe retriever, and when it finally popped inside, he paused for a moment, allowing Hunter's body to relax, and adjust to the sensation.

The warmth was blissful, and the size was just barely too much; it was exactly what Hunter was looking for, as he pushed back with his hips and encouraged his friend to go a little deeper.

"Are y-you sure?" Cad asked, trying to contain his gasps of delight as Hunter's inner muscles began clenching of their own accord.

The canine did his best to wrap his tail around Cad's backside as an extra sign of encouragement, and the very tip of it flickered with excitement. The pace picked up from a happy sway to the near whipping speed of the blades of a fan as Cad found what he was looking for and took a grip at the base of Hunter's cock, able to feel it emerging fully from the confines of his sheath and dripping with the plentiful volume of precum that he expected from a dog.

He was hopeful that his own mess would be enough to keep their act comfortable as he pressed forth, and another inch of his cock was quickly inside of Hunter's passage, causing the pup to wince just a little bit, but Cad easily picked up on the sound of a happy, eager whimper, and with a careful push, he added just a little bit more of himself to the mix.

"Cad..."

"I can stop if y-

"Don't you dare stop...d-don't fucking stop!" Hunter cut him off and cried out with ecstasy, knowing that he was pushing his body to the limits of what it could handle, but that was the way that he approached his entire life, and bedroom activity was no exception.

He knew that his tailhole was capable of taking more than that with less preparation, and as long as Cad took it slow, he'd be okay to keep working more of the otter into his ass, as a slow, teasing grind carried on between the two of them.

For some, just a few inches of penetration wouldn't have been enough to garner any real pleasure, but Hunter was tight, and beyond that, the warmth of his passage was so wonderful, so pleasant around Cad's manhood that the short, delicate thrusts were bringing him a level of bliss that he never would have anticipated experiencing with his friend. It was unexpected, but it was amazing...

Better than I ever dreamed it would be...you feel incredible, Hunter...it's like you were made for me!

Cad didn't dare to let his private thoughts out in the form of a moan, but he leaned in a little closer to Hunter and hugged his chest with his other arm, wrapping the slim canine in a tight embrace and picking up the pace a little bit as their bodies grew accustomed to each other.

"I d...don't know how much l-longer I can last, Hunter!"

The hushed groan of delight was like music to Hunter's sensitive ears, and his wide, long canine tongue fell from the side of his muzzle as a silly grin played across his lips. "I can tell," he teased, able to feel every single throb of excitement that passed through Cad's length as it buried itself inside of him over and over again. "L...leave it in, big guy..."

"Hunter, y-you don't have to do that!"

"Nnngh... no, b-but I want to...so fucking leave it in there!" Hunter reiterated, desperate to feel the creamy, messy warmth of his friend spilling across his insides. "We don't want to leave a m-mess for the next couple, do we?"

It was difficult logic to argue with in the heat of the moment, and Hunter's desperate, moaning pleas were more than Cad could resist. He'd never quite filled Hunter up to the base, but as Cad gritted his fangs together, he pushed in deep, and held on tightly to the lustful canine as his sack tensed around his balls, and quickly, they began to drain into the slimmer male.

Wishes did come true, it seemed, as Hunter's eyes went wide at the delightful shock of thick, sticky cum spraying across the insides of his ass and drizzling out from his stretched, gaping tailhole.

"Y-yes...Cad, yes! More! G-gimme more!" he begged, his voice downright lewd in the way that it craved a plentiful helping of the delicious treat. "I wanna feel it...d-dripping down my thighs!"

The seed was starting to pour out, and as Hunter's own cock erupted, spraying ropes of errant cum across the dusty floor of the cabin, and more importantly, all over Cad's palms, the lucky canine could feel the excess flow spilling down over his sack, giving the sensitive orbs within a final, teasing tickle of warmth, before the dripping fluid finally reached his thighs and trickled down further.

A grunting, spent otter was still holding onto him all the while, and he couldn't help grinning as he felt the bulb of Hunter's knot push up into his palm. Like a true friend, and a good lover, he held the thick, pulsing lump and squeezed it occasionally, getting Hunter every last drop of pleasure that he was due.

"Next time..." he groaned under heavy, panting breaths, "Don't wait for us t-to nearly die on a mountain to tell me you wanna fuck me..."

**

Sleep came easy, despite the hard, uneven floors of the cabin, and Hunter was feeling terribly lazy the next morning when he woke up in the arms of a man that he would happily slump into forever.

"Ugh...was a stupid idea to come up here in the first place," he groaned and complained as the pair made their way back down the front side of the mountain, back toward some of the tougher rock ledges that they'd faced the day before. "There should just be a flight of stairs back down to the bottom."

Cad was snickering, rather than finding himself annoyed by the canine's whining. "If only it were so easy," he sympathized. "I remember some of these ledges being awfully tough yesterday, Hunter. Do you think you can help me back down them?"

Reaching out an open palm nervously, Cad tried to keep his paw from shaking...and it went stiff with surprise and delight as Hunter took it and squeezed it gently.

"Only if you promise to ogle my butt the whole way down, again."

"Consider it done."
