Jeremy 025; An Appetite For The Road And Rice

Things start to settle into a routine for Jeremy.

Had a busy week and hit with a cold that sucked the life out of me for the past couple days so no comments this week.

Jeremy didn't get back home until late Friday. He got to the apartment only to find two of the roommates had also decided to move out. Since his and Sam's obligations to the apartment's management had already been fulfilled he shrugged it off. He guessed they had found someone else to mooch off of.

He slept for a few hours before Sam woke him with his packing everything up for the move. His own things only took a few minutes to pack. His brother had arranged for Steven to help with the move since he had been out of town and unavailable for most of the week. With the extra help the move was finished before noon.

Steven made a comment on how worn out Jeremy looked but after the personally successful week he was just happy to be out of the old apartment. That was reward enough in his opinion. He still had no furniture but the prospect of his own floor to sleep on with no interruptions was already an improvement. His father wasn't convinced. Steven dragged him out to buy a bed for himself and arranged for delivery before he would leave.

The next week at work went by smoothly. Sahar was still partnered with him but they were each taking separate calls now. She was always making herself available for any questions though. His new furniture was delivered and he had the opportunity to sleep off the floor for the first time in weeks. His brother had taken to filling the fridge and tiny pantry they had and was showing just how adept at cooking he'd become.

Everything was settling into a new rhythm for them both. The gym equipment downstairs was brand new and all he could have hoped for outside a fitness club. He used it as often as his schedule allowed. He resolved to work back up to a level he'd been when he had the job at the gym. A month or more of only going to Alex's training sessions had kept him fit but not to the extent he had been only months ago.

The new apartment was close enough to the Nicholson building that he often walked. His commute to work even allowed him to add to the species samples stored in PATOMES. Jeremy would even occasionally siphon off a bit of excess mass from those that looked as though they could lose a few pounds. He even bought a full length mirror to hang on the inside of his bedroom door. He used it to watch his experiments with PATOMES. After a month he had several more favorited bodies, several of which he liked enough to secretly wander around in public while occupying.

He had a meeting scheduled with the department manager where the The Bureau was placed within the corporate structure. Jeremy was surprised to learn he'd been sending reports directly to a Senior Vice President of Nicholson. The ocelot explained that he hadn't really bothered on the meeting until Sahar had indicated that Jeremy would be able to handle the job. Jeremy's official probation period was over. He was extended a full contract.

He wasn't an actual employee of Nicholson, but a consultant. There really was no way Jeremy could cut through all the red tape of the company as an employee. Therefore, every Bureau member was an official consultant and given almost as much authority as Gakota himself. He was also not required to report into work, would not have to submit time sheets, was accountable to only Gakota. Should he wish to come in he would only have use of the one office that all the consultants with the bureau shared.

Jeremy'd herd the slur behind his back more than once by that time. It was even a private joke among those that worked in the Bureau Of Sabotage. They were all called Gakota's Bastards. Jeremy didn't care that they were not liked by so many within Nicholson. It mattered that those they helped often changed their attitude afterward.

As abrupt and direct as Gakota seemed Jeremy had gotten used to the manner working with Sahar and his fellow bastards. They were a no nonsense group that cut through the fake niceties he had observed were the normal elsewhere in the company. Their meeting was also short as Jeremy had come to expect from the rest of those in the Bureau. He was pleased with the outcome of the meeting and being given full membership in the bastards. He also liked the substantial increase in pay he hadn't expected. His salary had almost doubled, again.

As Celebration Day approached Jeremy was scheduled to be the one on call. He had expected it since he was still the rookie in the Bureau. He hadn't figured out the significance of what the title meant on Sahar's card, so she told him. It was a reference from a fictional story he hadn't come across anyway. He understood the reference once it was fully explained to him.

Once Jeremy read the book in question he loved the idea as much as the rest. It seemed their job was similar to one in a set of books, so they appropriated the name. It had actually been Gakota that had started called themselves agents of said bureau. They had even become formally known within Nicholson as the Bureau Of Sabotage.

His Celebration Day was fortunately quiet. He spent it with his family. They were all to gather at their parent's new apartment. Jeremy rode his motorbike to the apartment with Sam riding on back. By the way his brother gripped his sides he was more than a bit scared at riding on a motorcycle. Jeremy took it slow so as not to overly terrify his brother. It also didn't help that Sam leaned the wrong way in turns. When they arrived Sam slowly climbed off before letting go of Jeremy's jacket.

"Sorry. I think I'll be taking the subway back." Sam explained, breathing hard enough that Jeremy wondered if he'd held his breath the entire trip.

"Sure. Sorry, I guess its not for everyone." Jeremy said.

Ian brought his fiancé with him. Jeremy had met her before but this was the first time since they had both graduated. She was pretty and practically clung to Ian when she saw how tall Jeremy had gotten. After giving his brother a hug he also hugged Shirley. He gently projected reassurance as he did so. The rest of the day she acted much more comfortable with the family she was marrying into.

Even Eric showed up, as always several hours late. As Eric shared a hug with his brother he was clearly squeezing as tight as he could. He even lifted Jeremy off the ground in an obvious display. Jeremy declined to reciprocate. If Eric wanted to show off his meager strength against his larger brother to satisfy his ego he really didn't care. It was Celebration Day, Jeremy wasn't going to give offense by showing his true strength and possibly giving his brother a reason to make a scene. Jeremy was pleased at how well his brother behaved the rest of the day.

It was a pleasant day even though most of the talk was about Ian's wedding. It actually made sense, the ceremony was only weeks away. At the end of the day his father pulled Jeremy aside and asked if he had the next day free.

His father smiled at his answer. "So, I was planning to take a ride tomorrow. Since you have off too, I thought you might like to go with..."

"I'd love to." Jeremy answered with a grin.

It was decided Jeremy would spend the night at his parents and start out on the ride early the next morning. Sam was pleased at not having to explain why he didn't want to ride back the way he came. Ian had other plans with Shirley and were planning to head back home early anyway. Eric kept his silence but left within minutes of the announcement.

Jeremy slept on the couch. He found it far more comfortable than the one Sam had in his first apartment. That one had been left behind since it was already in the apartment when he'd moved in. His father woke him early as promised. Jeremy got cleaned up in minutes and they left the apartment quietly.

Steven led the way to the freeway. Jeremy rode at his side watching for his father's hand signs of where he intended to go. They stopped at a fueling station situated just before the onramp. With full tanks they took to the road. Jeremy was thrilled at having his father right beside him. He simply rode along enjoying the moment. He'd taken a few rides out of the city before but this one was becoming special.

They stopped an hour out of the city at a small roadside diner. Jeremy counted only two cars and another motorcycle parked in front. As they walked to the door Steven glanced at him with a smile. His father gestured for him to go first. They found a table and ordered.

They sat together in a comfortable silence. Jeremy was watching the seeming lack of activity outside the large windows. The wide open space outside the city was still fairly new to him. Even his travels from his job was mostly to other cities or towns. They had stopped at a place in the road that could only boast three buildings. One was a single pump gas station that had seen better days. The third building was an out of business diner. Outside the gravel parking area was grass, and then more grass. The fields beyond lay fallow and unused but blazed green with the new spring growth.

The food was better than expected and satisfying. Jeremy insisted on paying for no other reason than he wanted to. Back on the road they headed further away from the city, just following Steven's whim of direction. Jeremy realized his father was tracing a wide half circle about a hundred miles outside the city. They were traveling east again by noon. With one gas stop in between they spent most of the day riding together.

Steven stopped a few miles from the city for a late lunch. Even though Jeremy was feeling the ache of riding for so long he was having the time of his life. They'd hardly said a word but to Jeremy there wasn't a need. It was the first time he'd spent so much time alone with his father with the purpose of just spending time together.

Back at Steven's apartment he watched Jeremy climb off his bike with a grin. "When you get home, spend some time soaking in the tub otherwise you'll be stiffer then jerky in the morning."

Jeremy nodded and said "Good idea. I haven't ridden even half that long before."

His father stepped up and hugged him. Jeremy was struck again at how much he was still growing. His father now only came up to his shoulders, hugging him was becoming a practice in roll reversal from his childhood. They parted and said their goodnights to each other. Jeremy waited beside his bike until his father was out of sight before climbing back onboard. In just the minute standing his muscles and joints had already started getting stiff.

He arrived back at his apartment to find Sam was out somewhere. He did as suggested and instead of using the tub he went down and soaked in the hot tub adjacent to the fitness center. The rest of his evening he relaxed at the apartment. Still fatigued from the extended ride he didn't feel like reading so with nothing else to do he turned on the television. He rarely watched but it was also too early to go to bed. He didn't even notice his eyelids getting heavy.

He woke with the television still on and Sam making noise in the kitchen. Sitting up he felt the damp in his belly fur and his physical response flagging. He looked around embarrassed but his brother seemed preoccupied with making something. Quickly making his way to the bathroom he cleaned up again. He came back out of the bathroom and had to pass next to the kitchen to stuff his clothes in the washer. Sam announced dinner was almost ready. He glanced over at Sam but his brother either hadn't noticed the smell or was going out of his way to ignore it.

He'd never experienced a dream like the one he'd woken up from. In it he'd been idly playing with PATOMES in ways he'd never considered. The imagery of the dream lingered in his mind. He could feel the beginnings of a physical response again just from the memory of the dream. Jeremy was tempted to call Jenna Sandoval to ask her about it but was still far too embarrassed.

"Okay, thanks for making dinner again." Jeremy replied as he headed to his bedroom. He stood in the middle of his bedroom wondering at the dream. In it he'd used PATOES to become massive beyond anything he'd ever seen outside of movies. The half remembered dream had struck him as so erotic that just thinking about it again was bringing the feeling back. Jeremy forced himself to focus his mind on something else but the draw of these new feelings were tempting. He looked through his contacts in his phone and found Jenna Sandoval's phone number. He'd call her, but later.

After dinner he sat on the couch watching television with his brother. Sam continued to either ignore his incident or had not really noticed. Either way, he appreciated the reprieve immensely.

The rest of Celebration Day week was quiet for Jeremy. He had a few calls from work but nothing that couldn't be handled with a few follow up calls. After another week Ian's wedding had become the family focus. The big event for the family was taking everyone's attention. The week went by in a blur and the Friday before his brother's wedding arrived. He had scheduled the weekend off well in advance but his Friday was still spent at work.

Saturday, and the morning of Ian's wedding Jeremy and Sam made the trip to their mother's apartment and there changed into their formal attire. Sam insisted on taking a taxi instead of on the back of Jeremy's bile. Their parents were the happiest they'd seen them since Jeremy's graduation. They idled away the extra time in conversation and a bit of gentle ribbing of Sam about when he would find that special someone. He took it with smiles and a few chuckles, but the topic brought Eric to Jeremy's mind. He was again choosing to distance himself from the family. Jeremy wondered if he'd had another argument with their father that he didn't know about.

Their mother finally stood and announced it was time to go to the hall. It was only blocks from their apartment and the day was cool but dry making the walk pleasant. They arrived early and were seated by the ushers in the front row. Jeremy was placed at the far end of the row so his height wouldn't block anyone's view. He looked around at the hall seeing more people gathered than he'd expected. After sharing his observation with Sam his brother snorted his mirth and elbowed him in the ribs.

In time the hall filled up, Jeremy was pleasantly surprised at how many friendships his brother had forged. The groom's side of the hall was almost as full as the bride's. During one of his glances behind himself he saw Eric at the door.

Jeremy watched to make sure the ushers placed him in the front row. He needn't have worried, Eric was already walking past them and making his way to the front row. Jeremy smiled at his brother pleasantly but his brother only glanced at him before sitting. He made no effort to acknowledge their father.

They only had to wait a few minutes before Ian took his place along with the rest of the wedding party. A few minutes after that the music started and Shirley's father walked her down the isle. Everyone's eyes were on Shirley, Ian had done well.

As the pastor started Jeremy started breathing again. He'd not expected Shirley's appearance to have such a strong effect on him. His body was embarrassing him again causing him to shift in his seat. His actions were drawing a second look from Sam sitting next to him. He shook his head slightly at the look. They both returned their attention to the ceremony and watched until it was finished. As Ian finally kissed his new wife, Sam and Steven were the first to stand as they rose to applaud the new union.

As Ian and Shirley made their walk back down the isle as one Jeremy took the opportunity to adjust his clothing. As everyone started filing out Jeremy saw Glenda lead her husband over to them. There were hugs all around as Jeremy Eric and Sam were introduced to the new half of the family. They all left together to make their way to the reception hall.

As per protocol Jeremy and his family allowed the bride's parents to enter the reception hall first. The guests were not so bound and by the time Hank and Glenda arrived the reception party was in full swing. The hall was larger than Jeremy had expected, and even more surprising was the live band. He once again brought his thoughts up with Sam after they had sat at their table. His brother stared at him a second.

"Didn't you know?" He asked over the music.

Jeremy shook his head, wondering what else he had missed.

"Shirley's family isn't quite rich, but they're not hurting either."

"Oh. That explains the band then."

"Oh, that explains the band then." Sam repeated mockingly. His smile was anything but mocking though.

"Well, sorry if I don't keep up with family gossip." Jeremy said smiling back.

Sam shrugged, still smiling. Jeremy looked around the hall but it appeared Eric had decided to slip away. The food served was also surprisingly good.

Jeremy watched from the sidelines for a while. The band was good enough that the dance floor was constantly filled. He was soon dragged onto the floor by a female he didn't know. He did his best but felt self conscious the whole time. He was constantly asked to dance with female after female. He should have expected it as he was part of the wedding family. It was clear he was a dominant, and would have been an excellent catch.

Between the heavy beat of the music and his dance partners his body threatened to embarrass him several times that evening. He resolved to finally call Sandoval the next morning.
