Sprite Master: Chapter 1
#2 of Sprite Master
In forest long away from any capital or village was a humble cottage made with combination of wood and stone. There lived a family of wolves hidden away from prying eyes. Though not for secrets as it was just to have peace of mind from the troubles of the world.
There was a white furred wolf pup running about through the trees nearing a creak that ran a long way and usually had clean water and animals wilf feral animals near it. The white wolf pup was grabbed and hoisted by a much larger wolf stopping the white wolfs run.
"I swear Tenebrea for an 8 year old pup you have boundless energy. I wonder where you keep it" said the larger brown furred wolf that was Tenebrea's father. Tenebrea giggled that white tail wagging in excitment still." Listen son. Its still plenty dangerous out here so you must be careful." said the brown furred wolf. The brown furred wolf set Tenebrea down.
Tenebrea looked at his father and tilted his head." But your Rinvo the great ranger and warrior that was an amazing adventurer." Tenebrea smiles as Rinvo couldnt help but blush and smile from the praise from his son. Rinvo looked at Tenebrea wearing his blue linen shirt with brown pants and a white sash around his waist. Rinvo was a tall wolf and built a bit lean and muscular as he was wearing a studded leather armor that had a green hue to it mixed with the brown of the leather. On his back was a long sword and a hunting bow. There was a quiver of arrows strapped to his side.
Tenebrea stood there smiling as he came up to his dads side as Tenebrea stood about 3 feet tall for his age and his father stood a towering 6 feet tall to the pup.
Tenebrea thought his father was one of the strongest wolves to come by with his swordsman skill and bow skill as his father kept talking about his old adventure stories as there were to many to even recall and yet he tried his best to. Tenebreas father said he didn't miss it saying that all he needed was right here.
"You know your father wouldn't be half the man he is now without me watching over him." said a feminine voice that came from nearby was another wolf that was female that came nearby and stood close by. She was a grey wolf about 5 foot seven inches tall. Those emerald eyes matching the same as Tenebrea. The female wolf was wearing a light yellow long dress. Here tied in a braid is it was long.
"Mom you came here to" Tenebrea said smiling and rushed and then hugged his mothers waist as that white tail was a blur a bit. "I came to check on you and hope the hunting is good. I came out to grab a few herbs and mushrooms to spice things up with the dish at home." said Tenebreas mother whose name was Ange which was short for Angela. Angela carried in her paw was a long staff with a jewel at the top that was a deep purple. Angela was seasoned mage.
Tenebreas parents adventured together as they both covered each other in most cases. They always had each other though as odd things kept happening throughout the world adventuring is dangerous enough with the monsters getting wilder and stronger.
"Are we gonna go together to get dinner" Tenebrea spoke up drawing attention back on to things as his father petted his head as he giggled." Yes lets all work together. Your still a bit green Tenebrea so stay behind us both like a good pup ok. Work with your mom on practicing your magic." said Tenebreas father." Like he will need it. He is my son and he will be a great mage and break many hearts in the future. Though I am not giving my boy to anyone though." Tenebreas mom picked him up and squeezed him in a tight hug a bit to tight that Tenebrea found it hard to breath. " To tight" Tenebrea manage to squeeak out. Soon then Tenebreas mom let go as Tenebrea coughed.
"My mom is such a goof" Tenebrea thought in his head as he catched his breath. "I love both my parents. Cant think of being anywhere else. I want to learn everything my parents can do since its so cool." Tenebrea thought as he saw his parents catch wildlife for food in the past and how they catch with speed or accuracy or magical talent it was all awe inspiring that it never made Tenebrea bored. He did his best to practice as with his mom magical training to control mana the magic energy of the world. "Mom drilled that in to my head so much on how important is to control magic since it can go haywire very badly these days.
"Well we have everything taking care of. This is so we can spend some time and keep practicing a bit. Never stop practicing cause your never really done Tenebrea." his dad told to him and Tenebrea nodded dutifuly. The next afternoon was spent like usual afternoons. Helping his mother gather herbs and learning there other functions from cooking to medicine. Tracking animals down. Though things were cut short as by the odd thing of snow appearing in the forest and it got cold fast and it wasnt the time for winter or snow.
"Why is it snowing all of a sudden?" Tenebrea asked both his parents but they both didn't answer since they didn't know. It didn't take long to get home as it was nearby and didnt venture out to far."Get inside you both. I need to take care of this a bit."Tenebreas mother said as she stayed just outside of the house holding the staff with both paws as the purple gem started to glow. It started to shine brighter as Tenebrea heard his mom speak some form of incantation as a large see through bubble formed around the house keeping the cold and snow out as it just looked like a weird water bubble.
"Mom thats amazing. Can I do that to in the future" Tenebrea said eagerly as he saw the interesting spell his mom did. " Sure you can sweety you just need to grow up I will teach you more. Right now your still to young so your learning the complete basics." Tenebreas mom said as Tenebreas ears couldnt help but flatten wanting to be older to learn more. "Basics my fuzzy butt" Tenebreas dad snickered as Tenebrea never knew that his mom taught the pup more then what is normal but the response his mom gave to teach these spells to see if Tenebrea could learn it was: "I could learn them so can he." she said in the past and Tenebreas dad couldnt help but groan at that.
The tension was broken inside the house by a growl as it came from the white wolfs stomach as Tenebrea blushed showing that the white pup was hungry. "Its been a long day still though it was cut short. I will start making dinner for my boys." Tenebreas mom said and moved towards the kitchen as Tenebreas tail wagged as his mouth watered a bit not able to wait.
"Before that you both need to go wash up before we eat. Tenebrea you been your paws in the dirt and tracking with your dad. You both are washing up before dinner is finished." said Tenebreas mom. Tenebrea ran off to the bathroom leaving his dad behind. "Ok ok dear. I will make sure wash up with the pup." Tenebreas dad snickered as they both in to the bathroom. A few magic devices to help with daily necesities. The bathroom had a bathtub and soaps and things that Tenebreas parents get at some village trading after a long trip. Tenebrea had to stay at home each time. Over protective parents can be a bit stiffling but shows they care thought Tenebrea.
After a while of sitting in the bathtub and getting washed by his dad as his white fur always smelled nice. He stayed near his dad as both nude as he relaxed in the water. "You enjoy your baths huh pup." Tenebreas dads said to him. " Cause I like taking baths with you dad." Tenebrea said smiling. After a bit longer and getting dry. Both the wolves got dressed in a green buttoned shirt and brown pants what Rinvo was wearing. Tenebrea wore his favorite blue shirt and brown pants.
Tenebrea could smell the food finishing being cooked in the kitchen. From meat from dear and herbs and vegetables. Tenebrea was taught not to be picky as he did love and enjoy his mothers food. Dinner was calm though the winds howled outside broke the quiet reality on what was going on. "Sounds like a blizzard is going. Hope things will be alright." said Tenebreas father. "My barrier is top notch better then most of those stuffy mages who stay indoor and get no sun. Though a blizzard showing up out of no where is very weird though. Whatever is going with the world it can't be good." Tenenbreas mother said as the mood grew tense in the dining table as Tenebrea ate his food quietly. Angela noticing this made a few light balls float and dance in the air and distracted Tenebrea as he giggled and watched and made a few light balls and made them dance in the air along with his mother.
The night came quickly as it was time for bed and the blizzard raged outside and Tenebreas parents said it should be over soon. Tenebrea did his best to ignore the sounds and started to drift off to sleep thanks to a full belly. During the middle of the night Tenebrea stirred in his sleep as he heard a voice crying out.".......el....s" Tenebrea got up and wiped the sleep from his eyes as he then tried to strain his ears trying to hear the sound but heard nothing throughout the house. Tenebrea was about to go back to sleep as he heard the voice again but it wasnt coming from in the house as it was coming from outside. "He......u.." He heard the sound again as he remembered there was a blizzard going outside. His parents were asleep but he wanted to know what the voice was saying. He grabbed his coat to keep himself warm as it covered him all the way down to his legs as it in a heavy coat that was a light blue that also had a hoodie to keep his head warm. He went outside to try and listen for the voice. He heard the voice more clearly as he could understand it."Help us" Tenebreas heart raced as the voice called out for help in this snow storm. He then ran towards the barrier and pushed his paw to it. It looks like he can pass through it and back easily but the snow stayed out. He felt the coldness and held tight as he then headed out to look for the voice.
"Hello is anyone out there" Tenebrea shouted as he shivered in the cold. The voice kept calling out for help. He kept moving instead as best he could towards the voice. His vision obscured by the white of the snow. The wind howled loudly like it was angry. He kept going till he saw a light in the blizzard. He started to make his way towards the light as he noticed there was two lights. He saw a green light and a blue light trying to move in the blizzard. He then noticed that the lights were calling out for help. It was then Tenebrea noticed these were sprites weak spirits that were rare but at the same time useless for most important things. Sprites generaly used to help some magic users use magic with the sprite. Though both these Sprites looked to be in distress. Tenebrea got close to them to try to help.
"Hello is there anything I can do to help" he said keeping his voice calm. The sprites noticed the white wolf pup in the snow finally as he was close about an arms reach away. The sprites moved closer as they flitted about near the wolf pup."Yes both need help." said the bouncing blue sprite. It was then it stopped."Wait you can hear us." said the blue sprite again." Well yeah." said Tenebrea. He looked at them as he tilted his head in confusion."Its nothing." said the blue sprite. The green sprite intergectid." Can you help us. Were lost and cant find our way out of this forest." "Well I can take you to my home till the blizzard is over if that helps." Tenebrea extended his paw towards the sprites as Tenebrea shivered a bit from the cold." My house is nearby and my mom made sure we are safe." He said smiling the sprites thought about it for a moment and then flied close to Tenebrea and went under the hood with his coat and stuck to Tenebrea ears. "Hey that tickles."He giggled a bit. "Sorry its a bit calmer and warmer in here. Hope you dont mind." said the sprites as Tenebrea could imagine it being cold out here. "Alright. I will get you guys back. It will be nice to have new friends at our place."Tenebrea giggled making his way back home. The statement left the sprites in a bit of shock and silence. Tenebrea followed his way back thankful from living in the forest all his life come rain or storm or snow he knew his way back. His teeth chattered a bit so it was pretty cold but he soldiered on for now. He saw the oddly shaped dome of snow that was his mothers barrier. He made it home rather quickly thankful for trees growing in certain spots.
"Can you wait a moment." The sprites said to Tenebrea. "Is something wrong?" He asked the sprites as his ears twitched a bit."Nothing is wrong but would you be willing to form a contract with us both." said the green sprite as both sprites flew out and were in front of Tenebreas muzzle. Tenebrea didnt know what contract they were talking about but Tenebrea smiled."If I make one with you both does that mean we can be friends."Tenebrea said smiling as the sprites floated in the air not moving untill a moment after that both started to laugh uncontollably."We sure picked one. I think this is a good pick." The sprites said outloud and then they taught Tenebrea how to make a contract which was making an oath in some form. The sprites explained it had to be something that he wouldnt break so easily. It was almost like a promise. "I vow to protect those that I care for and want to help those in need." He said to the sprites as the Sprites shined and Tenebrea felt a bit warm as a new feeling washed over him. "Contract complete." both sprites exclaimed as Tenebrea smiled as Tenebrea then sneezed as a bit of goop hanged from his nose as he couldnt stop shivering now from the cold." You should get inside now Tenebrea we can talk more about this later" The sprites said and went back to sticking on his ears. Tenebrea made a beeline for the dome as he passed in to the barrier easily. he felt the warm as his skin prickled and itched bad but enjoyed the warm sensation. He looked straight ahead as he saw his parents waiting at the entrance of the cabin. His ears folded back as he knows he is in trouble.
Tenebrea was back inside as he looked down as his parents looked at him. He was waiting for the yelling but that didnt happen as he was lifted up and pulled in to a hug from the both as he was squeezed tightly. Tenebreas mom started to cry."I'm so glad your safe." Tenebrea then realized how much he worried his parents as he said his apology to them both. After that quiet moment then came back the yelling."What in the world were you thinking. Going out in a blizzard. I havent taught you the spell to keep you warm or find your way back. What if you got mauled or frozen or kidnapped. Though if you were I would scorch every town to find you."Tenebreas mom said as Tenebrea gulped."Off with that coat and your clothes. You need to dry and warm up from what you been through outside."Tenebreas father then helped him out of his coat and clothes till he was in his loincloth underwear the same like his father. It was then that they noticed the glowing lights on Tenebreas ears."Tenebrea what are those you have there on your ears" Tenebrea mom said as Tenebreas dad was a speechless at the moment." I found them in the blizzard. They were calling for help cause they were lost and couldnt find there way out."Tenebrea explained the reason both of the parents groaned and held their heads a bit."We forgot to teach the boy common sense." said Tenebreas dad as Tenebrea tilted his head."What do you mean we. I thought you were teaching him during your excersize and hunting time."Tenebreas mom said while crossing here arms in front of her."What about you and your magic tutoring. Couldnt you explain that common sense in there somewhere." They both argued. Then Tenebrea sneezed bringing them back to what they were saying and both of Tenebreas parents sighed."We both will teach him common sense with our coming lessons." said Tenebreas dad."Agreed." said Tenebreas mom.
"Now back to the matter now. Tenebrea why are the sprites with you?" Asked Tenebreas mom. "They wanted to stay. They said they made a contract with me."Tenebrea said smiling. His mothers mouth was open while his dads eyes were large."Th-thats g-g-great. You made a contract with sprites. Ha ha" Tenebreas mom said trying to keep a straight face but Tenebrea didnt notice."You know you must have had a long tredge and you should be in bed before you catch a cold. Your father and I need to talk about things and your punishment for running out without talking with us first."Tenebrea whined and nodded as he started to head upstairs and get back to his room."He made a contract. Only those with that talent can do that."His mother whispered to his father."I know that much. Does that mean he will be one."Tenebreas father said and Tenebreas mother nodded."Its a calling like any mage that learns what magic they are meant to learn. This is a form of it also. We cant keep him from learning and I cant teach him what he needs to know."Tenebreas mom said sounding a bit sad."He is our precious child and he is a smart one and strong thanks to us both."Tenebreas father said while holding on to Tenebreas mom"It will be alright. Though we are going to be busy."His father said to Tenebrea's mom.
