The New Couple

(Baron Burckno)

Three weeks later

As me and my son reached the prince's castle. It seemed, that the guards were prepared for us. We entered through the gate, to find our prince already waiting outside for us. I bowed a little, and answered, "my prince, I have returned with my son, has you have requested, the rest of my family is on their way."

The prince answered, "Baron Burckno, Karl Antelo, welcome." He looked at me and said, "Baron Kolvak, is here already. He asked if you were here, you might want to speak to him."

I bowed to the prince, and left to talk to Baron Kolvak. I found him in the library, where he looked up from a book. He then started, "Baron Burckno, let me be blunt. I am not happy, with my only daughter marrying, your son. Since we don't have a choice, I would like to make this a Matrilineal marriage. So, your son takes my houses name, and moves to my house. For this I will allow your merchants access to my barony, I will also pay 60 gold to you, and 6 gold to your son, Every year for as long as I live.

I answered back, "unlike herbivore traditions, carnivores do not take a new name. We get our last name from where we're from and the name stays for life. But I will agree to the rest of the deal." I shook his hoof, and left. Immediately after I left the library, I realized what I had done. I sold my eldest son, because of my greed.

(The Wedding)

(Margret Kolvak)

I was waiting at the end of the church. Rehearsing the wedding with a servant, for the fifth time. Wondering, why carnivores have such a crazy wedding order? Until, the music started to play. I started to slowly walk down the aisle. When I got to the alter, I looked at my family and bowed. Than looked at the, priest who was standing next to the alter.

On the second verse, Karl Antelo did the same wedding procedure as I did. Than the priest spoke, while Karl and I knelled down. At that time, Baron Burckno came over with a knife, in his pads. The priest, took the knife and blessed it. He then presented, to Karl. Who took the knife and cut his left paw. Karl than gave the knife to me. I took the knife, and cut into my hoof.

I started to hold the paw of Karl, while my father came up. He started, to wrap my hoof and Karl's paw together. While the priest spoke, "As the blood mixes. You become one, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may now kiss the bride."

Though there is about a million other things, that I would rather do, like getting flogged. Yet, for my house, I kissed such a disgusting creature. The priest, finally finished the ceremony, which unfortunately, placed us into a union.

After the ceremony, I went to my father, who was talking to a few other barons. I guess, I was too busy in the wedding. To realize, the prince invited most of the barons, making this wedding a big deal. It isn't a surprise, he wanted this union to embarrass my houses, and house Antelo. So, it would make sense to invite, many of the powerful mammals on the island.

My father, saw me coming over and said, "ahh, my only daughter." He walked over to me, leaving the other barons. He spoke, "I am sorry about all this. I hoped that the prince would have made this a small wedding. I mean, having you marry him, is cruel enough by itself." He said that while looking at, Karl Antelo.

While talking with my father, the servants announced supper was ready. As I entered into the kitchen, The servants escorted me to my seat. Which of course, was next to Karl Antelo. We all stood up, as a servant announced the prince. As the prince entered, he started to say, "I would like to congratulate, the lovely new couple. May they have many years of happiness."

As he finished speaking, he than raised a glass. The barons, raised their glass, wishing us luck. It was embarrassing, being in front of everyone, wishing us luck.

(Baron Kolvak's castle.)

(Margret Kolvak)

We finally got home again, after what I would say is the worst time of my life. Once we got into the castle, our steward came over. My father told the steward, "steward, I trust all is well." Before he could respond, my father continued, "I need you to get a room ready for, Karl Antelo. He, is now a member of our house."

The steward bowed and responded, "of course my lord. If I may lord, it's good to see that house Antelo, accepted the deal." As he left, to prepare the room for Karl.
