Before I could even do anything I was soaked in the blood of my allies and watched as their corpses flung about the battlefield from the explosions of war. Death, on such a scale, was something I had not witnessed in my lifetime up until now. I had no reason to suspect war with the power of Light would be long and arduous but I guess even I can be surprised. I woke up in the middle of the night tossing and turning the night before this moment with the dream I been dreaming since my resurrection. A flipped universe that was covered in war and death; a world where the blood of my friends and family would drip into the very cracks of the Earth, turning it into a desolate wasteland where only the dead can find solace. I once believed that the people who brought me back from the brink gave me this nightmare to relive over and over to remind me that I was once human. At least... that's what I thought anyways.

Today, my life was changed forever the moment I saw my best friend shot in front of me by an enemy sniper. She was my closest friend, a marine soldier not chosen by the touch of Light that once felt the rigidness of my skin not too long ago. A droplet of sweat dibbled from my brow as I knelt over to catch her in my arms, screaming in terror and agony. Her skull was pierced by a steel bullet that glistened in the sunshine of this cold and windy day. Not a cloud in the sky to warn us of the destruction that waged before us. My allies swept from their catacombs into the bright once more, wielding weapons of great destruction and power beyond anything that we're ever witnessed in our lives or the lives before this. Her eyes curled into the back of her head as she lied there, motionless, her skull dripping the blood of promises into the crevices of the Earth that were left behind by the cold bombs that swept over the land in the war before.

And in that moment, in that singular moment of clarity and clairvoyance, I witnessed something astonishing. The Light that once filled my very existence and bones had once again filled my soul to the maximum. I could feel the Darkness slipping away as it's grip and hold over me and my fate dwindled into the darkest corners of the galaxy. It was at this moment that my Destiny was not set in stone and was not over yet. There was still a moment where I could choose life or death. And in that very moment and the moments to follow, her body was swept away like dust in the wind... joining with the Light it touched all those years ago.

I didn't even know Guardians could die... until they did.
