The Tales of Dalkr - How Dalkr got his Red Fur

Dalkr and Halkorn had traveled a great amount since he was born. The wolf pup learned a great deal from the raven, teaching him the languages of Giants, Elves, Dwarfs and the Gods. He had also been taught how to properly walk on two legs, rather than four.

He had a pelt as white as the moonlight probably inherited it from his mother Mami, the Goddess of the Moon. Haglkorn wanted to reside somewhere isolated from others, a place where she can teach Dalkir the magical ways of the Light Elves, she knew that the wolf had greatness within him. She knew it from the day he was born.

Not many were born you see upon a solar eclipse, ever so rarely to Sol and Mani conjoin as one, so the wolf had great potential. He began to show his magical signs after he crafted a set of rune stones out of amethyst. These he used to tell the future, which helped Haglkorn and the wolf avoids future problems.

She had decided to take the wolf to Muspelheim, the land of fire. She had taught him all that she knew of magic, but as the young wolf grew and grew, as did his curiosity of the magical world. He had decided that next, he wanted to travel to Alfheim, the realm of the Light Elves.

While their stay in Muspelheim, the young wolf had celebrated his 24th birthday, his white glistening fur had taken upon a red hue, possibly from having been exposed to all the molten lava that surrounded the fire realm.

Before they had a chance to leave Muspelheim however, the guards of Surtur, the Fire Giant who ruled over the fire realm. They brought the raven and wolf into the presence of the Fire King and he was unpleased.

"How in the 9 realms have you been able to evade my eye of sight?" His loud booming voice inquired. "I am quite surprised at this, and surprised that you'd survive the hot blistering landscape that is my Kingdom, speak!"

It was the raven that spoke for her adopted son. "My dear Giant Lord, our humblest apologies of not paying respect to our most gracious host, I have brought my son to this realm to study magic in solitude, away from the distractions of the other realms," She began to speak.

The giant rose his hand to silence the raven. "Magic you say, can he perform magic?" He asked pointing a finger to the red wolf.

"He must because none can survive the blistering heat that is

Muspelheim, he must be magic, or he'd have been burnt to a crisp upon entering!" it was one of the guards that spoke this truth, the massive giant of brimstone and fire merely nodded his head.

"This fact is true," He said. "Not many can come into this realm without some kind of enchantment," The white wolf was also content about this matter, yes. If he did, in fact, have magic, surviving in the realm of fire should be proof enough.

Yet still, the Giant wasn't content on the matter. "I still wish to see some performance of magic, I need entertainment after all," The giant bellowed, thudding his massive fist against his brimstone throne. The guards laughed and chuckled at this.

"If you cannot perform any significant amount of magic before two weeks time, you will not be able to return to any of the other 9 realms, I'll forbid you exit from my Kingdom and you shall be my servant, got it the wolf?" He asked.

Halkorn wanted to interject, but she has silenced once again. Dalkr knew what had to be done, so he nodded his head in agreement. "I'll study hard and long, day and night to perform a spontaneous performance of magic for you," He said.

"Give this lad a study room, he needs books on magic, lots of them, chop chop!" The wolf and raven were then escorted from the giant's throne room and taken into a massive room where many books resided. The raven scorned her son for having taken upon such deal.

"Do you realize what you just did?" She asked the wolf. "You made a deal with a giant, most giants do not like to be displeased, you'll be his servant if you fail!"

The wolf sighed slightly. Yes, that was a rather stupid move he just did, but what choice did he have in the matter? For many days and nights, the white wolf stood awake. He had observed the strange texts and tomes within the library they were concealed in. Some of them had great knowledge while others were mere stories of entertainment.

But the wolf came upon a peculiar Codex, a book that was shown as brightly as the sun but was as beautiful as the moon. The book was called Skumring. Its front cover at its center had half a sun and half a moon conjoined into one. The book fascinated the young wolf.

He opened its pages and read its contexts. He peculiarly took interest in the Pages of the Sun. It talked about the sun God, Sol, the one who rides a chariot that drives through the sky when the sun rises from the East and sets in the West. It fascinated him with the magic and mystery that it contained.

The raven Halkorn was greatly concerned about the codex. It was, in fact, a spellbook of night and day, dark and light magic. The young man kept studying the book upon the last remaining days and nights before his performance. He had been so hypnotic by its pages that no matter how Halkorn attempted, she couldn't get his attention.

The next night, the giant summoned Dalkr back to his throne room. The Giant anticipated for the performance, but when Dalkr admitted that he hadn't been practicing his routine, the giant grew furious., "BIND HIM, Bring forth Mørk kjede!" There was an overwhelming amount of dread that washed over Dalkr.

When Mørk Kjede came forth did the wolf finally realize what it really was. It was a massive binding chain, equipped with a muzzle. It was made of the purest of ebony, crafted from the hottest of lava found in the Fire Realm.

The chain was clasped around both ankles of the white wolf, the Obsidian muzzle snug in place, keeping him from opening his jaws to bite or snap. But then, something began to happen. His white fur began to be tinged with red tufts. Soon the red began to spread, like ink spilling onto parchment it quickly absorbed the white fur.

The transformation ended just as soon as it had begun, the white wolf was no more. He was now a red wolf! The giant laughed slightly and clapped his large hands. Although Dalkr should have been afraid of the demonic giant, no fear struck him. He stood there and the shackle was removed.

The only reason for the fur color change, Halkorn thought, was the fact the wolf stayed in the Fire Realm for a long while. The brimstone and flames must have seeped into his fur and caused the witness to fade. But that was a false theory in case Dalkr asked. She knew the true reason why his fur really became red, to begin with.

"You are talented indeed, I look forward to seeing your skills put to the test come Ragnorak," He said with a sinister grin. His booming voice faded, and soon Dalkr faded into a darkness. Later he woke and was in the midsts of Alfheim.
