Chapter 1: Eiko's new experience

Eiko had always been a quiet person. She'd never really gotten along with anyone in school, and for the majority of her earlier years she'd been bullied and teased a lot. The boys callously remarked on her feminine attributes and mannerisms, and the girls simply found her creep. Her being one of the more docile breeds of canines certainly didn't help when the boys in class were mostly bigger and more aggressive breeds. Growing up as a feminine, insecure and confused boy certainly wasn't easy for her and it caused a lot of issues for her in her early teens. When she changed town and school she never bothered trying to make friends and often distanced herself from other groups of people, and while it was lonely and often very boring, she never really struggled with any bullying or teasing since she was never around for it. It took a while for her to figure out that she was in fact trans. She'd never quite understood what was wrong with her, or why she seemingly had strange crushes on every girl she laid eyes on, but one day she saw a documentary on television. On it she saw several transgendered people talk about hormone replacement therapy, possible surgeries and in general about transgenderism. Suddenly most of her life made sense to her and she knew she needed to do that, but it wasn't as simple as that, it never really is. Her first hurdle would have to be telling her parents.

Eiko had gathered her courage for hours. She'd been sitting in her room, on her bed, just thinking about the upcoming conversation over and over and contemplated hundreds of various outcomes. She wanted to trust her parents to want what's best for her, but she'd heard of so many horrible cases online where it had gone as far as the child being thrown out of the house. Obviously the possibility scared her, but continuing living a lie was equally scary and she knew she'd have to take the risk. When she finally felt she couldn't put it off any longer lest she'd lose her courage, she jumped off the bed, pulled open her door really quickly and ended up staring straight into the eyes of her mother, who had just been about to knock on her door.

''M-mom?'' she said in a really surprised and almost terrified tone of voice. The courage in her had just gone out of her like a puff of air. ''I... I need to talk to you and dad,'' she added, before her mother had the chance to add anything. The nervous and quite serious look on her face must've come across since her mother simply looked at her for a moment, then nodded and turned back towards the stair expecting Eiko to follow. ''Dear, Ekko says he needs to talk,'' the mother announced as they reached the bottom of the stairs. ''Well... Can't he wait? The game's o-'' her dad was promptly interrupted by the mother's expression and headshake. He looked at both his wife and son, saw both their expressions and nodded as he turned off the television. ''What's up? You look like somebody died.'' Eiko froze. She somehow hadn't anticipating getting that far and could barely get a word out. Her mother urged for her to sit on the ottoman in front of the big chair in the living room, and then tried to assure her that she could take her time. ''Mom, dad...'' she said and let out a long breath of air, and tried to ignore the fact that her heart was about to burst out through her chest at any second. ''I...'' She froze again and swallowed. She had never been so nervous before.

''I am transgender!''

Both the parents just sat there for a moment, completely surprised by the sudden outburst, before it was clear on their faces that they both tried to process the information. A minute or so went by in complete silence and Eiko was feeling herself sinking deeper and deeper into mental oblivion before eventually her mother started giggling. At first it started out as just a snicker, but it quickly grew and before she knew it her father joined in. It didn't take long before they were both laughing heartily for a good few minutes while Eiko was just sitting there terrified and absolutely flabbergasted. ''Dear god, finally! It took you long enough!'' Her mother, Helena, was wiping tears out of her fur as she looked at her child with a smile on her face. Eiko, obviously, looked at her in complete confusion. ''We've just waited for you to tell us,'' her father chimed in. ''You don't honestly think that your femininity and your interest in girlier clothes, toys and god knows what has passed by unnoticed, do you?'' Eiko just sat there, unsure as to whether they were being serious or they were messing with her. Her parents had always been supportive and helpful when she needed them, so she wasn't above trusting in them now, but it still felt too easy. If anything she was a bit uncomfortable with the fact that she'd been that obvious when she'd tried to be so careful in hiding it. It was hard holding back how happy their words made her though and tears starting running down her furry cheeks and her tail was rapidly building up momentum against the surface of the ottoman she was sitting on. She looked back and forth between them both, over and over, every time feeling more confident in her future, and eventually threw herself into a big hug with them both.

Life changed for her from that day on. While school remained the same during her psychological evaluations took place, she felt hope and became far more talkative and social. The doctors gave her a pill that would halt her male puberty for the time being, and she was far different as a person from then on. While she didn't change her name in school, at home she asked to be called Eiko instead of Ekko and she slowly began changing her wardrobe from dreary neutral to cheerfully neutral, or even feminine. It took about two years before she finally received her estrogen and resumed her puberty, only this time as a girl. It was the summer of the year she turned fifteen that she was finally set to go to school as a girl, but it was terrifying. Knowing she'd have to go back to school with the same people, but as a girl, was too much for her and she managed to convince her parents to transfer her to a high school in a neighbouring district. She knew there might be kids she knew there as well, but at least there wouldn't be as many. Seeing as how she'd be starting a new school for sophomore year, she'd be transferring into a class that had already been together for a year. It was terrifying and exciting all at once.

The second she saw the school she knew she'd made a big mistake. Her mother had offered to drive her, and even accompany her in for the welcoming speech, but Eiko had promptly declined and claimed it'd be too embarrassing. Seeing the school and flow of students through the front doors quickly made her realize that perhaps she'd been a bit to hasty in her decision to turn away the generous offer. Eiko was wearing pretty neutral clothes, as she hadn't quite gathered the courage to be as feminine as she wanted to be. She was wearing a pair of jeans, sitting nice and tight around her thin legs, and a black t-shirt made for girls. It had a cute little print of a paw-pad on the front, in a color perfectly matching her natural fur. Since she had resumed her puberty, her breasts had quickly begun growing once she'd started taking her pills and they were already quite noticeable through the black top, although they were probably pretty average for a girl midway through her fifteenth year. She was hiding behind a tree on the school grounds for quite some time in order to build up some courage. Thoughts were flying through her mind, feeding her anxiety about all different kinds of things, both good and bad. What if they stared, or pointed? What if they laughed?! What if they actually approached her or found her cute? What would she do? She didn't know. Whatever happened she'd have to deal with it as it happened and logically speaking she knew there was no point dwelling on whats and ifs. Just as she gathered her courage to step out from behind the tree and join in the flow of students, she felt a hand on her shoulder and in a surprised scream she jumped and looked around. Behind her stood a man she didn't know. She tried to figure out if she knew him, but there were no bells ringing. What she did know what that he was blindingly handsome, a German Shepherd probably around twenty-five or at least roughly around that age. Eiko felt herself blush and sheepishly looked down at her feet. ''Can I help you? I'm Daniel Cane, one of the teachers here at the school,'' he said and looked at her in hopes of an answer. It was obvious she was nervous and wasn't entirely sure what to say, so he continued. ''I don't recognize you. Are you a freshman? Or perhaps a transfer student?'' Eiko was nervously biting her lip and slowly looked up at the taller man through her bangs. ''I, uhm...'' she began, feeling her heart racing. This was where her new life began, and she knew it. ''I... I'm Eiko Luna, a transfer student for class 2-C.'' Mr. Cane nodded with a smile and gestured towards the school entrance with one hand, and placed the other on her back as if to lead her in the right direction. ''I understand that you're nervous, so I'll show you around and help you with the administration,'' he offered and gently nudged her to start walking. She felt herself smile at him and walked side by side with him into the school. It wasn't a very big school, so she didn't think she'd be getting lost any time soon, and all the classrooms seemed to be in labeled corridors so that it'd be easy to find the right class. The administration's office was right inside the main entrance and getting her properly sorted only took a few minutes, before she and her knight in shining armor was on their way towards the classroom in which she'd start her day. Once she'd been shown where to go later, they went straight for the auditorium for the welcoming speech and Mr. Cane had to excuse himself to go deal with his teacher duties. As he walked away, Eiko simply stood there watching his back until he was out of sight, almost dreamingly longing for a man perhaps ten years older than her. She caught herself daydreaming however, and shook herself awake and hoped no one had seen her. Obviously a group of older students had and they were just standing there giggling and snickering as they were staring at her. In an attempt to maintain some dignity, she puffed her chest out and walked in through the doors to the auditorium and... tripped. She tripped. She landed face first onto the hardwood floors and she could literally feel the eyes of all the students on her. There was not even a part of her that wanted to get back up and face all those eyes on her, so for a minute or so she just remained there, squirming a bit because it hurt. Suddenly someone grabbed hold of her arm and almost forcefully helped her up. A bit reluctantly she sat up and looked at whoever it was that had helped her, a girl probably around her age. ''That was quite a fall!'' the girl told her cheerfully as she helped her up. ''Don't worry about it, I trip all the time.'' Eiko just looked at her, almost with an empty stare, once again met with a random and sudden interaction. She wasn't used to being approached since she tended to give off a vibe that scared people away, but in less than an hour she'd already been approached by, and helped, by two people. ''Are you okay? Do I need to take you to the nurse?'' ''Oh, uh... Sorry! I spaced out for a second...'' Eiko said and laughed nervously, still eye-locked with the other girl. ''Oh, good! Sorry if I startled you! I'm Kayla. You're Eiko!'' she stated, matter-of-factly. Eiko once again just stared at her, just for a few seconds this time around though and then nodded. ''That's right... How'd you know? I mean... I don't know anyone here.'' ''Mr. Cane told me to look for you and be your guide today,'' she said with a bright smile, then took Eiko by the hand and dragged her to two free seats for the welcoming speech that was about to start. Eiko didn't listen to most of it. She was mostly sitting in deep thought, glancing at the girl next to her. Kayla didn't seem to be one of the popular girls since she wasn't swarmed by as some other girls seemed to be in the halls, but she also didn't seem to be a dreary person much like herself either. She was wearing pretty standard clothes, nothing too fancy, nothing too horrid, and she didn't seem to have cared too much about her hair or fur that morning. She had a ribbon attached to one of her feline ears and another to her long, willowy tail. In fact, she was a little bit chubby too, not that Eiko really cared. Eventually the speech finished and the students were dismissed and told to return to their classrooms. Kayla didn't rush off right away, as Eiko almost had expected since she seemed so energetic, but instead remained so they wouldn't have to fight their way out. Meanwhile she turned to the new girl and smiled all excitedly again, almost to some degree of creepy. ''Soooo, where did you transfer from? What class are you in? Do you have a Tumblr? Can I see it?!'' Her barrage of questions seemed endless and poor Eiko wasn't used to someone showing so much interest, so it took her a while to appropriately answer the questions. ''Uhm... Let's see... I live in the next town over and, uh, I am starting class 2-C, as for Tum-'' before she could finish answering, Kayla went off again. ''Oh my god! We're in the same class! Let's be friends!'' With a blush and an insanely wide, yet shy, smile on her face, Eiko nodded. Before they had a chance to say anything else though, the bells rang and Kayla jumped out of her seat. ''Let's hurry or Mr. Cane will be mad!'' ''We... Our homeroom teacher is Mr. Cain?'' Eiko asked almost too excitedly. ''Oooh yeah. Ain't he sexy?'' Kayla asked with a spark in her eyes. ''...y-yeah...'' Eiko said shyly, which made Kayla laugh before pulling Eiko by her hand and took off towards the homeroom.

Kayla proceeded to stand by Eiko's side for the remainder of the day. It quickly became apparent to Eiko that her new friend wasn't very popular despite her social and energetic personality. In fact, she soon determined that she didn't really have any friends at all. Not that Eiko minded really, she had no intention of becoming one with the in crowd and was happy enough to have just one friend, and a girl one at that. While Eiko and Kayla were both very different, with Kayla being open and social and Eiko being shy and timid, they both seemed to get along really well. It didn't take too long for them both to become best friends.

That's it for this chapter. Please stay tuned for another chapter, where you'll get to read more about Eiko and her new life in school!
