Chapter 3: Welcome Home

"This all could be yours." Jasper waved his paw out over the window, smiling at the sight of the sun setting over the vast city. "I know that all of you came from nothing, but I can give you everything." He caught the sight of Kuda's tail wagging and giggled to himself.

"Well if we're stuck here...we may as well live like kings." Kuda turned to Vix and Max to decipher what they may have been thinking. Vix dropped his apple in awe.

After a moment, Vix spoke next. "We don't know how to fight. At least, I speak for myself when I say this. How exactly are you going to teach an old dog new tricks?" He nudged Kuda playfully, who returned the gesture with a snicker.

"I'll have you know I'm in my prime, skinny fox." He flexed his bicep and ran his other paw over the firm muscle, admiring its build and size.

The lynx broke himself out of a daydream and looked between his three subjects. "We have ways of speeding up and accentuating the traits you all already possess. It's our own unique technology, and I think you'll all be impressed with the results." He took a deep breath and pressed a second button under the desk with his tail, closing the shutters and sealing the wall over the window. The room grew dark again. "It's getting late, and you all need to rest. Tomorrow is going to be a big day. I'm going to take you out into the city. Save your questions until then, please."

Max turned to Jasper. "Are we supposed to go back into that god-awful hospital room?"

Jasper snickered and smoothed the tips of his ears once more with a paw. "Only if you really want to. Otherwise, I have a suite for the three of you." The lynx walked back to the door leading to the hangar and opened it. Standing in the doorway inches from his face stood Kari, a wide grin across her face. "Kari, take them to their suite."

Max made eye contact with the feline and awkwardly averted his gaze. In a voice as smooth as silk, much less commanding than the only other time they had heard her speak, she cooed, "Follow me please."

They walked back through the hangar and into the security lobby. This time, Kari led them to an elevator on the opposite side of the room. "The suite has been carefully decorated to your liking. Jasper saw to it himself." The elevator doors opened, and the trio quickly stepped in. Kari's paw grazed each of the buttons and stopped above PENTHOUSE.

The doors closed and the elevator began its ascent from the ground floor. Vix cleared his throat. "Umm, Kari? What are you exactly?" He was much too afraid to look at her as he spoke. Max looked up at the ceiling, pretending that Kari wasn't staring a hole right through him. Kari held her paw to her nose to hide her face. "I'm just a simple house cat. What would make you think otherwise?" Vix refused to state the obvious for fear of retaliation.

A loud bell signified the conclusion of their ride to the top. Kari stepped out first, opening her paws and sweeping the room with a mannerism much like Jasper's. The open suite was decorated in modern tapestries with a wooden floor and large windows that gave a wide view of the city. Kuda found his room almost immediately.

"This is absolutely amazing!" A weight bench sat against the wall to the left with a large bed to the right. Posters of his favorite sports celebrities were plastered all over the ceiling. "Y'all are creepy as hell but at least you got it right!" He got down on all fours, ran to the bed at full speed, and pounced on the soft mattress.

Vix was already in his bedroom scanning the shelves of books that covered the walls. He pulled off book after book, throwing them onto the bed. "I don't think I'll sleep at all tonight, you've completely spoiled me! I haven't seen this many books since...since..." His whole body shivered from his snout to the end of his bright orange tail.

Lastly, Kari grabbed Max's paw and pulled him over to the last bedroom at the end of the hallway. "This is your room. You were a little hard to plan for, especially since you were a last minute selection. Nevertheless, I think we did pretty well."

The room had no lights or windows, and therefore remained dark except for the faint glow of a large television next to the bed. Video game controllers rested on the end of the mattress, one for each of the two consoles. A small library of films yet to be released sat on the nightstand. Max smiled and covered his face as tears began to form in his eyes. "It's perfect."

"You'll be living here for much of the foreseeable future. Get some sleep tonight. I'll be around to check on you. Don't get too lonely without me." She pranced back into the living room on the tips of her paws and called out to the other two. "Six o'clock, got it? Any later and I'll hang you from the balcony myself." Grunts of approval came from the rooms of Vix and Kuda, both enthralled with their new toys.

Kari pressed the elevator button and waited for the doors to open. Max stood at the entrance to his bedroom, watching her tail swish methodically from side to side. As she stepped into the box she spun to face him, smiling coyly as the doors shut tight.

...

Max pressed his paws against the wall of the shower and spread his legs, allowing the water to wash over him. The sensation of warmth felt great, relaxing his sore muscles from the stress he had endured since he woke up. Once he was content, the raccoon stepped out and reached for a towel. He massaged the soft linen into his dark fur, then wrapped it around his waist to search for a fresh pair of shorts.

Max opened the door slowly and allowed his eyesight to adjust to the darkness. A small dresser by the bed held skin-tight shorts, his favorite apparel. He dropped the towel to the floor and held up the shorts. They got my size right too.

The sound of light breathing suddenly caught Max's attention amidst the silence. He turned his head slowly, enlightening him to the presence of a thin body sprawled out across his bed. "Who the hell are y--"

Two paws shot up from the bed and covered his mouth. "Shhh...I wont tell if you don't." Kari's smooth voice was unmistakable. The feline used her immense hidden strength to sweep Max off his feet and pin him down onto the bed.

Max covered his groin with his paws. "What happened to 'Get some sleep Max' or 'Long day tomorrow Max' huh Kari? What's this about?!"

Kari straddled Max and used a free paw to caress his abdomen. "Jasper sent me back up here to see you. He thought you might need a little more...convincing. Naturally, I didn't object. You've already become my favorite." She dipped her head low and kissed the soft fur covering Max's chest. "You're more innocent than any of them. So pure. So...untouched."

Max slowly began to relax under her paw. He could feel her tail slowly wrapping around his thigh and making its way down his leg. "Then I'd say something this prized is worth waiting for."
