#1 of Beret: A Love Story

Derrik Holoway (22) is a gay, crossdressing dog that seems to be ignored by everyone except his only friend, Rosalyn Kittoria. One day, Derrik is getting bullied in the college hallways and gets saved by the hottest guy on campus, Jackson "Jax" Aleaxander. The two end up falling in love. How will this relationship play out? And why does Derrik always wear the same, brown beret?

The announcements that the college advisor was making through the intercom was very soft when compared to the noisy lunch hall. Species of all kinds were eating lunch, and talking with their friend. Well, most of them. Derrik Holloway, a dog, was seated at a table meant for two, alone. He sipped his drink and ate his food in silence. Nobody really payed attention to him, except for one person.

"Derrik?" A female voice called out. Derrik looked over and saw Rosalyn Kittoria, a cat, who had been Derriks best (and only) friend here at college. He waved her over, and she came and sat across from them. If any given person looked at the two, you'd probably get mixed up who was what gender. Why? Because Derrik was the one wearing the cute skirt and Rosalyn wore sweatpants. Derrik also had a much more feminine body, with wide hips and an ass to match.

Oh yeah, Derrik's gay by the way.

Rosalyn seemed to be the only person who understood Derrik and accepted him for who he was. She smiled at him. "How's class going for you?" She asked. Rosalyn was 24 and in her 4th year of college, and Derrik was 22 and in his second year. "It's going great." He said, smiling a little. Derrik was extremely book smart, and was currently passing his classes with ease. Rosalyn wasn't as smart, and often asked for help with work. In exchange, Rosalyne lent Derrik her girly clothes to wear. Seemed like a good system.

Not everybody else thought so.

Rosalyn smiled. "That's good. I passed my Trigo test thanks to you." She smile and playfully punched him in the arm. Derrik smiled. "Good to hear." He stated as he finished his food.

On the other side of the cafeteria, sat two other males. One was Jackson Alexander, a fox, whom everyone called Jax. Across from him was a wolf named Kai Sparks. Two good friends since freshman year of high school. Kai smirked a bit as he caught where Jax was currently looking. "Are you checking him out again?" Kai asked. Jax quickly snapped out his trance. "W-What no!" Jax said, obviously lying.

Guess who else is gay? Jax. Surprise!

Jax was a different case then Derrik though. While everyone knew Derrik was gay, Kai was the only one who knew Jax was. Jax looked like anybody's dream date. Handsome face, muscular body, and to top it off, he was one of the nicest people and campus. "Come on Jax, it was pretty clear you were looking at Derrik again." Kai said. Jax sighed, taking a sip of water. "I mean...do you see the skirt he's wearing? It matches his eyes so much." Jax sighed lovingly.

Kai smiled a little bit. "You know you could just go ask him out right?" He stated. Jax shook his head. "Are you crazy?" He said, now in a whisper. "I can't have people knowing I'm gay yet. Not to mention, he'll probably say no." Jax looked over at Derrik again, who was chuckling at some joke Rosalyn said. Jax smiled hearing his laugh.

Kai tapped him Jax on the shoulder. "Have you ever noticed how Derrik wears the same beret every day?" He asked. Jax glanced at him. "Yeah, it matches his fur." He stated. "Why are you bringing that up?" Kai sighed. "I don't know...I just thinks it's a bit weird to wear the same hat every day. It looks old and beaten down. I just don't know why he wears it all the time" Jax sighed as well. "Yeah, but it still looks cute." Jax said, eyeing Derriks figure again.

Derrik put his now empty cup down. Rosalyn just finished telling some story about her crazy ex boyfriend. Derrik loved those stories, considering they were some of the only things that could make him smile every day. Rosalyn checked her watch. "Oh man, I gotta get going." She said. "English test."

She stood up. "Remind me what a Juxtaposition is again?" Derrik rolled his eyes, pretending to be annoyed. He said a pretty damn close to a dictionary definition. "The fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect." He said. "We learned that in what, 9th grade?" He laughed a little. "Shut up smart ass." Rosalyn said, smiling when she did. "See you tonight!" Rosalyn waved and left the lunchroom.

Derrik got up and put his tray in the trash. He picked his single strap bag and slung it over his shoulder, and walked out of the lunchroom. He walked by Jax, who checked him out as he walked by. Jax leaned across the table. "And I mean, did you see that ass of his? He's got a better ass than 99% of the girls in this school." He whispered. Kai laughed a little. "Whatever you say, lovebird." He said, standing up. "Oh shut up." Jax said, giving Kai a good slug to the arm. "Hey, come one! You know it's true." Kai said, laughing a bit. The two left the lunchroom, into the hallway.
