Had an idea for something a little different. For my few normal readers this is not related to the group in anyway. It is a story I cooked up in frustration at the fate of the dragons in Warcraft currently. I have no full idea if this is truly lore friendly.

It was their twilight hour. The dragons had all come to accept this truth. After they had all sacrificed so much to end one of their own. To save the world they were tasked with protecting they gave up their chance for a future. The aspects only learned the full cost of that sacrifice after the battle ended. When the Legion returned they lost another. Y'sera gave her life to try to save the dream and Cenarious. All the remaining aspects felt her loss harshly. For a being so powerful, so beautiful to have fallen so easily to a being so small. Her tail flicked in agitation at that thought. Alexstrasza stared out of her home as she thought about what was going on now. At first it seemed a cruel joke. First she had to watch her children be tortured and forced into battle against the humans during the first invasion. Then one of their own twisted her children and turned them into his mindless followers forcing her beloved to end his life to prevent more from being corrupted. A tear fell from the old dragon's eye as she played her past in her head over and over. Fate had taken so much from them and had asked so much of them over the years. And yet even in their weakened state they still fought to defend this world. Their home, and home to the races that had sprung up from the curse of flesh, and now even home to people who came from other planets. They would bleed and thrash until the vary end against the enemies who sought to destroy the world they called home. The news of the flights infertility shocked them all however. All of a sudden their future was gone. The world they to lived in was taken from them. The dragons would fade into time like so many other things of creation. The eldest accepted their fate quietly. Choosing not to rage and instead to work on defending what they could with what time they had left. The younger dragons however cried and wailed against fate. Cursing the very beings that gave them purpose. She could not blame them she wished she could do something but their fear and her own mortality scared the red dragon to the core. Yet through it all time still moved forward and their final hour came steadily closer. The races of the world fought, discovered forgotten lands, and even went to the past. But the old enemy showed once more. The death of Y'sera shocked the other races harshly. The nightelves were hit the hardest. The green flight and the elves always had a close connection because of the dream. And watching the defender of the dream fall, nay having to end her life themselves hit them the hardest. But it was a wake up call for Azeroth. The long time allies of the races the dragons were greatly weakened and vulnerable. When the bronze drake Chromie sought the help of the Kirin Tor. She found people willing and able to dive in time and again to try to prevent her from passing on. Their battles danced across time. Each failure bringing them closer and closer until the little dragon was saved. Those tales always brought her hope that at least they wouldn't die alone or forgotten.

It had almost seemed like a cruel joke however when the Ebon Blade and Kirin Tor approached her with a theory. Maybe they could restore enough of the Dragon's Soul to the aspects in order to allow the dragons to be able to reproduce again. She had almost burned both groups on the spot. "DO YOU THINK TO MOCK US?" she roared angerly at them. After the mage named Khadgar explained the theory she was still very skeptical, but also confused and scared. If the plan succeeded her kind would have a future, but if it failed it would mean that the sacrifice they made to stop Deathwing would mean nothing. The aspects did not have enough power to try again. She had asked for time to think on that. Meanwhile the people led the assault and freed the Nightborne elves of their curse and ended the Legion's hold on the last of the elves. Freeing them and their magics. When the Kirin Tor returned for her answer they brought with them a new group and more powerful magics to aid in this crazy plan. Reluctantly the red dragon agreed to plan. For now all she could do is wait while the Kirin Tor and their chosen carried out the plan. The hours grew into days as the battle raged on. She could feel the magic being pulled and used. She felt his return and their attempts to contain him. Her heart thudded in her chest and fear washed over the dragon. She silently prayed against all odds that they would succeed or at least be able to kill him again. Between him and the Legion the world would burn if their plan didn't succeed. Just then she heard footsteps enter her home.

She looked up to see them or what was left of them at least. The people who stood before her were beaten, bloody, and tired. "Is it over yet?" she asked softly fear flashing over her eyes. One death knight came forward and dropped something on the ground. She stared at it wondering what it was for. It was a small, round, and golden object. Before she could inquire as to its purpose the death knight slammed his armored foot down on the object shattering it in a brilliant display of magic. The energy that had been trapped inside exploded out of the shattered object blinding her and throwing her back against the wall of her home. Agony laced through her entire being and the energy surged into her body. Her last thoughts before darkness claimed her was, "Why would they do this to me?"

She awoke some time later to the same knight staring at her with his cold eyes. "Are you back with us now?" he asked in a cold and hollow voice. She lashed out at him attempting to bite him in half. She would not be taken and corrupted. He swiftly stepped aside as her jaws only found air. "Woah woah watch it!" he shouted in shock as she glared at him. She bathed the room in fire. She would not go quietly. "I will not be taken again! I will not spend my final days being turned into a pawn for him," she shouted breathing heavily. The Knights runic ward flickered as his shield wore off. He started laughing his raspy laughter echoed by the other knights in the cave with them. "What's so damn funny?" she asked her voice rising in anger. The laughter stopped as the knights looked at her. "We won ,Alexstrasza the plan succeeded," he said shouldering his weapon. She stopped. Could it mean? It couldn't...but what if? These thoughts ran through her head and confusion washed over her it was overwhelming. Her body shook heavily as her legs gave out. She collapsed to the ground as the knight ran over to check on her. "Easy there, its ok we won you're safe and enough power was saved to give you back the future," he said softly. "You don't mean?" she asked so soft she wasn't sure if he could hear her. He simply nodded. Emotion overwhelmed her as tears flowed freely down her scaled face. He lightly stroked her head as she sobbed tears of joy. "Thank you, we owe you everything now. You gave us back the future," she said through her tears. Transforming into her more humanoid form she quickly embraced the knight tightly smiling the whole time. Eventually he pride himself away from her crushing embrace. She sat there crying happily for the first time in many months. Eventually she stood up and walked out of the cave turning herself back into her normal form. She let loose a brassy roar of jubilation that was echoed by all the other dragons in the area. They had done it. Against all odds once again the races of Azeroth did the impossible. They gave the ones who had given up so much. They had given them back the their future. In doing so they had also given the dragons a gift of welcoming to the world and the future. The races were also saying this world was theirs as well. To live in, to bleed on, and to die for. This place was now truly their home and they would fight tooth and claw for all generations to help defend it against whatever would try to destroy it.
