Free bird: Childhood: Chapter 2: Happy Birthday!

It had been a week since Becky was rescued from her father by Crow and Sparrow and Ann had taken her in. It was dawn and the room was illuminated by the light which spilled in through Sparrows closed Blinds. Yawning softly she sat up, careful not to wake Sparrow who still slept beside her. Even though Becky had her own bed under the window, she felt more relaxed with Sparrow in his bed. Plus it gave her someone to cuddle during the night. Becky slipped out from under the cover and stood up on top of the bed as she jumped over sparrow and landed on the floor, but not as quietly as she hopped and Sparrow stirred and groaned. Becky new that Sparrow would soon wake up so she leant over and whispered softly.

"I'm just going to the bathroom... Go back to sleep." She spoke softly, her lips just beside sparrow's ear. Sparrow turned over and slipped back into a deeper sleep as Becky quickly stripped off and got changed. Since moving in with Ann and Sparrow, Becky had been taken shopping a few times and had a wide choice of clothes and toys. Ann was taking care of her as if she was her own. Becky stepped in front of Sparrow's mirror as she fixed up her dress. She wore a soft silken violet dress that seemed to sparkle in the light; this was Becky's favourite off all of her clothes. She never wore it often unless for special occasions and today was pretty special. It was Sparrow's birthday. Turning from the mirror Becky picked up a small blue ribbon and turned back to the mirror as she tied it around her throat, making a bow on the right side of her neck. She turned back to the mirror and gave a twirl Not long after she moved in Ann made Becky have a haircut. She was frightened about having her hair cut, it was her most prized possession and cried all the way through, making Ann feel extremely guilty as Sparrow held Becky while the hairdresser cut away. No matter how much she looked, she could not adjust to the hair cut. In the end her hair was cut too roughly about elbow length. Becky tiptoed from the room and stepped down the stairs slowly.

"Ann?" Becky said as she reached the bottom of the stair. "Ann? I'm up!" Becky said as she turned and walked into the kitchen. The strong smell of freshly baked bread filled her nose, making her mouth water. Becky stepped into the kitchen and stood beside the sink while Ann opened the oven, pulling out a fresh loaf of freshly made bread out and placing it on to a plate to cool slightly.

Ann turned to face Becky and smiled softly. She turned and pulled a chair out from under the table and lifted Becky on top of it so they were eye to eye. "Becky, sweetie, how many times must I tell you? Don't call me Ann, if you're in my house you can call me mother. You are part of the family after all." Becky looked Ann over and giggled softly. Ann's hair was tied back and her face was covered in flour, as was her apron. Ann had gotten up a few hours earlier to back some bread and a treat or two which were hidden away from the children's eyes... and noses. "Now...You look beautiful today. I like the ribbon, that's a nice touch." Becky blushed and nodded.

"Thanks mother."Becky said the words playfully and grinned widely, only to for Ann to pick up some flour and flick it into Becky's face causing her to shriek and flail around as she tried to brush it off Becky jumped off the chair and buried her face into Ann's apron, trying to wipe her face clean, only making it worse. "It won't come off!" Becky cried as she slowly became upset. She wanted to look nice and the flour was going to ruin her dress which made it worse. Ann made soothing noises as she picked Becky up and sat her beside the sink. She wet a cloth and proceeded to wipe Becky's face clean of the powder.

"Okay," said Ann. "All clean, now. Fly upstairs and get Sparrow for me." Ann joked. She knew about the groups nicknames and was named herself. Mother Hen. Becky nodded and dashed from the kitchen, making tweeting noises for the fun of before she tiptoed into the room again and stood beside Sparrow who was still fast asleep.

"Sparrow? Mother says you need to wake up." Becky whispered into his ear, waking him up softly. Soon as Sparrow opened his eyes he was made jump by Becky whose face was inches from his. "Morning sleepy head. Happy birthday!" Becky added before pulled the covers back and jumping on top of Sparrow, tickling him till he was awake. "Ouch!" Becky cried and jumped off Sparrow, holding her shoulder. "You bit me!" Sparrow sat up and climbed out of bed. Walking towards Becky, and proceeded to embrace her.

"You know I don't like being tickled, silly bluebird." Whispered Sparrow and Becky started to hug him back, even though her shoulder stung. Sparrow stepped back and examined Becky's outfit and smiled softly. "You look nice today. Thank you. That's nice!" He said pointing to the bow on the side of her neck. Becky just stuck her toung out and went downstairs again, leaving Sparrow to get dressed. Becky plodded downstairs and sat down at the table, holding her shoulder.

"Well, Sparrow is up. And he bit me! Mom! He bit me..!" Becky sniffed and pouted as Ann turned around.

"Don't tickle him in future. You know he doesn't like that" Ann remarked before turning back to the stove. Picking up a jug she poured some batter into a frying pan and the aroma of Pancakes filled the kitchen. A loud thud sounded and both Ann and Becky looked up. A minute later Sparrow stepped into the kitchen, holding his forehead.

"Becky! Don't leave your underwear around! I just tripped over them!"Sparrow continued to hold his forehead but started to laugh as Becky squeaked and ran past him and upstairs. Sparrow sat down at table, in Becky's seat. Sparrow was wearing a pair of 3 quarter length pants with green flames on the bottom of the legs as was the same with his shirt, but instead of green, it was blue flames. "Morning, Mom." Said Sparrow as he yawned. "Something smells nice." Becky came down and gave an evil glare a moment later.

"That's my seat! I was sat there!" Becky said as she walked to Sparrow and tried to push him off but he wouldn't budge. "Fine!" before Sparrow could react, Becky jumped onto Sparrows lap and got comfy as she sat there. Ann turned to the table and placed down two plates of pancakes. One with blueberries in, the other with strawberry pieces, one for Sparrow and one for Becky. She sat down a moment later with a third plate and an envelope. Ann held it towards Sparrow but placed it down just out of his reach, causing him to groan. Becky pulled her plate of pancakes to her and started to eat them, taking great care not to make a mess of her outfit. She tore apart off of the blueberry pancakes and passed it to Sparrow over her shoulder. Sparrow just took it and popped it into his mouth as she did it again. This normally happened between Becky and Sparrow.

"Now Sparrow," Began Ann. "Today I'm taking you on a tour of my work place. You will need to behave. Do you understand? You both must be on your best behaviour, do you both understand?" both children gasped and nodded excitedly, they knew that this was a once in a lifetime tour. Ann simply smiled sadly. Sparrow is getting older she thought, soon he will be leaving the nest.

They all finished their breakfasts before Sparrow raced upstairs, followed closely by Becky who still had half a pancake dangling out her mouth. Ann stood beside the table as she sliced up the bread she made, inhaling the fresh doughy scent when a knock on the door sounded. She lay down the knife and sighed. The sun was barely up and already people were knocking around. Walking to the door she checked herself in the mirror, she looked a mess...by her standards. She opened the door as she wiped her hands on the Apron which she still wore.

"Ah, sparrow! I was wondering if you knew what colour you...wanted...your...Umm... H-hello... I thought it was Sparrow, silly me. I'll be going now!" Said a surprised Crow, he knocked this early hoping that Sparrow would by and his mother wouldn't be. He covered in oil and paint and he wore his engineer overalls with a utility belt filled with spray paint and tools.

As Crow turned to leave, Ann grabbed his ear. "And what." She said menacingly, "does sparrow need painted?" Ann always thought Crow was trouble and was always out to course it. When Crow wouldn't reply she twisted his ear, causing him to yelp.

"B-Bike!" was all he said and she gasped and let go of his ear. She knew about the bike that Crow and Her husband had made for Sparrow, for this birthday before he died. She let go of his ear and regretted pulling it. "Umm...I'm making sure it's safe. Dad's outback sorting out the brakes and everything. Its gonna be so safe, Sparrow will think its boring." This got a chuckle from Ann as she stepped aside, letting Crow in. He entered the house and his mouth watered. The smell of fresh bread and pancakes hung heavy in the air, in fact his mouth watered so much, and he was worried that if he opened it, he would need a bucket.

Sparrow though, had heard the door close and looked up, worry in his eyes. "Oh...-" was all he said before Becky, finished, the same look on her face. "Crap..." She said before they both bolted to the door, tripping over clothes and toys as they went. They both raced down the stairs, expecting crow to be getting yelled at. They were both surprised though, for in the kitchen was Crow and Ann discussing types of paint to put on.

Crow turned around and laughed as he took in the look on the kids faces. "Jeez, what's wrong? You were expecting me to be getting beaten into a bloody pulp?" He grinned and Ann ended up slapping him round the back off the head with a rolled up Tea towel. "Anyway, I'm here 'because I was going to ask you about what you wanted painted onto the bike, it looks pretty crappy right now. I was thinking maybe a military styled one, you know. Camouflage, a made up ID and name for the bike. What do you think?" Sparrow was about to reply before Becky cut in.

"Why not put flowers on it and paint it pink?" Sparrow nodded and then replied.

"Yeah! Let's NOT do that. I like your Idea Crow! That sounds awesome!" Becky looked hurt by this and shrugged. Crow grinned and held out a letter envelope to Sparrow, who took it and tore into it. Inside was a letter. Sparrow looked at Crow confused; he merely smiled softly and sadly.

"Well... I'll be on my way, got a lot of work to do. See you around feather brains." Crow chucked and messed up both Becky's and Sparrow's hair as he walked past. "Read that later, at the end of the day, and then come see me." Crow stuck his toung out as Becky kicked him in the shin as he left, closing the door quietly. Crow looked at the letter before placing it in his pocket and grinning.

"I got a bike! It's awesome...!" He announced before fiddling with his hair, trying to make it neat. "So!" sparrow called breaking the awkward silence that started to fill the room. "When we going for the tour?" Becky nodded, agreeing as she herself didn't know.

Ann looked at her watch then to the clock before gasping. "Oh no. We have to leave soon, and I'm not ready!" She quickly dashed from the room, leaving Sparrow and Becky looking at each other before shrugging and going into the living room to watch TV. Ann entered her room and sat on the bed, sighing. She knew what was in the letter. It was from her husband, who wrote it on his deathbed. Ann shuddered and tried to hold back a wave of emotion that flooded through her. She blinked as a fear tears managed to come free and drip from her chin onto her apron. She took in a long shuddering breath before wiping her eyes and picking up a picture of her and her husband on their wedding day. She sat there for a few moments before brushing her fingers along the glass protecting her husbands face. There was a knock on the Door and Becky casually walked in.

"Hey 'mom' what's taking so lo-..." Becky saw Ann quickly chuck the picture down onto the bed and look away from Becky. "I-I'm sorry." Becky apologised, as she looked down at the picture, she could barely make it out at the angle it was at.

"Get out..." Ann said quietly, but Becky never moved. "Get. Out. Now!" She snapped as she faced Becky who had a look of terror on her face. Instantly regretting it, Ann took a step towards Becky who turned and ran from the room. Becky shot down the stairs and jumped right on top of Sparrow-- who she made jump-- and buried her head into his chest. Becky sat silently but turned her head to watch the TV. About 10 minutes later Ann came down stairs wearing her uniform. She stepped into the Living room and looked down at Becky, a strong guilt pulling at her heart. That girl has seen enough abusive parents.. She thought to herself. She placed her hand on Becky's head, causing her to jump slightly before looking up at Ann and smiling. "Who's ready to go then?" Said Ann. Becky jumped off Sparrow and nodded, Sparrow got up slowly and winced, His legs had fallen to sleep. Ann walked into the kitchen and saw the bread and sighed. She forgot to make the sandwiches. "Eh" She shrugged as she reached on top of the fridge and pulled down a box, being careful as not to damage the contents. Becky walked to the front door and hit a button on the wall with her elbow and the door seemed to spiral outwards in 3 sections with a soft hissing noise.

Becky and Sparrow shot out the door, nearly knocking the box out of Ann's hand. "Careful" was all she said before stepping out the door which closed with another soft hiss. The door opened into a sheltered garage, there was no walls but the roof held above with a AG(Anti Gravity) pad like the cities did. She stepped up to a car and Sparrow took the box, marvelling at the weight as Ann scanned her thumb on the pad, causing the care to silently float 2 feet of the floor, bright blue lights under it as the devices came to life. Becky took the box from Sparrow and nodded to the car. "It's open. Oh, Sparrow, open the trunk for me so I can put this in." Sparrow nodded and walked to the back of the car with Ann. Becky stood by the back door before lifting her arm and holding her palm flat a few inches away from the door, She made a slicing motion to the left with her hand and the door seemed to mould into the metal framework as it opened. Becky jumped into the car which didn't move even though the weight changed. Sparrow held up both hands and did the same motion as Becky did, but one hand moved left, the other stayed still.

"Okay, it's all open, and the SF is on, I'm gonna get in with Becky!" Sparrow shot round the side of the car and jumped into it after opening the door. Both children started to bounce around as they got excited, but the car never moved. The SF or properly named: Stasis field, was installed in cars after so many accidents on earth. Ann marvelled at the amount of people who died while car's moved so slow, do to stuff not working properly. On Ame 7 the cars moved at triple the speed and everyone knew that regular safety measures' wouldn't work. So along came a Scientist who programmed the Legendary machine G.O.D and out popped the SF. Or so Ann was told, --but she thought it as aloud of codswallop-The SF was installed in cars mainly for the fact it refused time and held whatever was in it, within perfect stasis. For this machine to take effect the car must be active and it must be turned on, most people never did it unless they thought they might need it. But once the machine was active, the car was perfectly safe. Small cameras on the front of the car picked up on any and all the objects within the front of the car. If there was a threat of imminent danger. (E.g. Car crash, dangerous elements and so on) it would automatically send whatever was in the car into Stasis, milliseconds before impact, protecting them from any and all danger, until the car deemed the danger over they would stay in stasis or until rescued.

Ann held up the box before dropping it into the trunk, soon as it passed the rim of the trunk it suddenly stopped moving and completely froze as it entered the field. Ann stepped back and closed the Trunk before getting into the Driver's seat of the car. Sparrow and Becky were still mucking around in the back of the car as Ann placed her palm on the dashboard and a steering wheel melted out of it. Ann clasped hold off it before pulling out of the drive way and driving down the road and off the end of the platform. Soon as the car cleared the platform it the pads underneath roared tilted slightly to hold the car up and keep it moving. Ann placed her foot on the pedal and the car shot off towards the military sector of the planet. The sector was on the other side of the planet and would have taken hours to reach by plane. But after the hover car was created and installed with high tech acceleration, they managed to get there in little under 2 hours drive. Having put the car up to around 400MPH.

Upon reaching the air-force platform of the military section, both children gasped in awe at the mighty fighter ships parked up on the platform as their pilots suited up beside them ready for their drills. Ann drove past the take off platform as she headed towards the sign in center.

Sparrow and Becky had their eyes glued to the window as they took everything in with gasps of Awe and surprise. Both kids started to scream and shout in excitement as the pilots climbed into their ships. Sparrow looked closely and muttered. "Class 3... Attack fighters" Ann who heard him nodded and confirmed that statement. Pulling up to a small platform attached to the main center and a man stepped out of a hut on top of it and flagged the car over. Ann pulled up and the window vanished, as if it was never there and the sound of rain filled the car. Ann held up her ID and the made saluted.

"Air Marshal Godard, Ma'am." He continued to salute. Ann waved her hand and pointed behind her at the children. The man reached into his hut and pulled out a check board which the water simply rolled off. He handed it to Ann who filled it out and handed it back. The man saluted before beckoning her to pass. The window re-appeared as they pulled into the center car-park. Something happened and Car jolted and shuddered. The kids stopped their laughing and fell silent. Ann looked in the rear-view mirror and saw their looks.

"Don't worry you two, it's just the field. The army platforms have a sort of... bubble around them. Stopping the rain, so the men and women can train." The car shuddered again and continued as normal. Driving or a few minutes, they entered a car park and Ann drove into a space marked with her name. Placing her hand on the dashboard again, the steering wheel melted away and sunk into the dashboard, leaving no sign it was there at all. The car continued to be held aloft as power ran through it. The doors sunk into the frame work as the kids jumped out, followed by Ann. Soon as Ann's feet touched the ground the car silently lowered and turned off. The kids looked around in Awe. They had never been outside without worrying about the rain. Both of the kids parted as Ann stepped between them and squatted so she was eye to eye with them both.

"I know I told you before...but you must do as you're told, you stay right behind me unless I say otherwise. Do you understand me?" Both children nodded and she kissed both their foreheads. "You both are good children, stay as well behaved and you may get something special." She held out her hands after she rose with a soft groan. Both kids took her hands and followed as she led them.

After leaving the car-park-- after assuring the children that the lack of rain was natural in the army section.-the small group went towards the Army barracks as the kids watched everything. Suddenly Sparrow and Becky tugged at Ann's hands as a roaring filled their ears. They all spun around as the pilots started their ships up. Sparrow laughed out loud as one of the ships engines roared and the exhausts started to spew flame onto the ground. The ship began to roll forward and turned towards the run way. Both children could feel the heat from the ships though they were easily 30 meters away. The ship roared again and the flames burned a bright white. This happened three times before the ship was ready. The engines roar became unbearable and the children covered their ears as the ship started to roll forward before it turned again, giving them a sidelong view. Sparrows jaw dropped as the flames shot out the back for 7 meters as the throttle was opened and the ship lurched forward, gaining speed at a frightening speed. The ship jumped into the air and shot off into the distance. It spun around and flew back, flying directly over the small group and flying out of the bubble and off into the distance.

The kids watched the ship till it sped up so much they couldn't follow it. Soon as this happened, the kids followed Ann into the barracks. She sat the children in to small waiting room before walking off into the office there. Moments later a heavily muscled man followed Ann out the room. The man was around 7 foot tall and looked like an action hero. He looked at the children and said in a soft voice that shocked both the children.

"Who is the birthday child then?" He eyed the two children as Sparrow raised his hand slowly. The man didn't look down as he asked again. Sparrow managed to squeak a '_me.._sir' two which the man looked down at him. "I asked who's birthday it is, Son." He kneeled down and still towered about Sparrow. "Now...I will ask again..." The man took a deep breath before shouting into Sparrows face "Who's birthday is it?!" Sparrow was shocked before replying again.

. "It's mine, sir!" sparrow said but the man repeated himself, louder. Sparrow took a deep breath and shouted back. "It's my birthday, Sir!" Sparrow was shocked by how loud he shouted but never showed it.

The man shouted a new question and grinned at the child before him. "How old are you, boy?! What's your name! Answer me!" He shouted once more.

"My name is Sparrow Godard! I am 13 years old! Sir!" Sparrow shouted, to which the man smiled and nodded. Sparrow was shaking. Not with fear, but with excitement. The man looked at Becky who cowered behind Sparrow.

"And who is that worthless bag of meat?!" The man shouted again into Sparrows face. Becky jumped out from Behind Sparrow and kicked the man in the leg before grabbing her foot in pain. The man's leg felt like it was made of steel. The man laughed as the girl sat and rubbed her foot.

"I'm not worthless!" Becky called."My Name is Becky Dawnay! And I don't care who you are! Stop shouting at us!" The man looked at Sparrow who looked like he was the one who got kicked. Then he looked at Ann who had the same face then to Becky who was standing up and sheepishly putting her foot down.

"Well then... Becky Dawnay. I am Marshal of the Royal Ame Air Force!" The man boomed and Becky paled. She ruined the whole day! They were going to get thrown out! She thought. The man reached down and put his hand on Becky's head. "I like you. You certainly don't take any crap, just like me at that age. Welcome to the Ame 7 Air force base!" He said and both children relaxed while Ann started to laugh, followed by the man. "Now who wants to go see the ships?!" He boomed once more before both children shouted back. "Sir! We do, sir!" The marshal smiled and walked off. The kids looked at each other and raced to Ann who started to follow the man. The group passed through hallways while more ships took off, rumbling above.

"I can't believe you kicked him!" Whispered Sparrow at Becky who was limping slightly. Becky looked at Sparrow.

"Well! He called me useless!" she said as she clung to sparrow, her foot starting to sting more painfully, causing her to cry out. Both Ann and the Marshal turned around and walked back. The man looked down at Becky and his eyes suddenly turned completely white for a few moments before returning to normal. Within minutes, a man dressed in white appeared and looked at Becky. The man had a red strip going down his arm.

"Becky. My name is Damien. I'm here to look at your foot. The Marshal told me it hurts? Can you show me where?" Sparrow looked at the Marshal then to the medic_. He told him?_ He thought, how_? He just arrived and they haven't said a word to each other_. Sparrow shook his head. It wasn't important. Becky took off her shoe and sock and winced before grabbing Sparrow's leg, her toes and top of her foot were swelling slightly. The medic nodded, as if expecting this. "Okay. You seem to have damaged your toes. One of his eyes whitened like the Marshal's did and what looked like words flashed across it before he reached into his back and pulled out a cream.

"Now. You seem to have broken your toes, not surprising after kicking the Sir behind me." The medic said before rubbing the cream over Becky's foot as she dug her nails into Sparrow's leg. "This cream is made in huge batches. So you can have this one after. But it should heal the bone and stop the pain and swelling."The man's eye was still white and then Sparrow noticed that the Marshals were again. What is going on?! Sparrow called inwardly. The medic looked Sparrow dead in the eye and smiled. "Well now son, it's your birthday is it?" Sparrow nodded, now curious as to how he knew. The medic reached into his pack and pulled out a small bag. He handed it to sparrow. Sparrow looked inside and saw it was filled with Candy. "Never know when you want something sweet." The medic chuckled before getting up and walking away.

Sparrow handed the bag of treats to Becky, his eyes never leaving the Medic till he was out of site. "And just... What is up with that? How did he know about all that stuff?!" Sparrow looked at the Marshal who just smiled and carried on walking. Becky tried to stand up after a attempts Sparrow pulled her up and slung her arm over his shoulder, causing them to race as they tried to catch up. Becky clung to sparrow as they made their way round a corner which the Marshal just passed. But they both gasped as they saw they were in the hanger. Both children stopped to look at the ships, marveling at their size before they noticed Ann and the Marshal deep in convocation with a Pilot, every so often they looked at the children before the Pilot shrugged and nodded. Ann beckoned the kids over and Becky put her foot down to run, noticing the pain had gone. Both kids ran over and the pilot looked at the kids.

"Well," He said. "I am to take one of your lucky buggers up and out, now. Who wants to go up?" Both children's jaws dropped and they both raised their hands at once. "Well... If I take one of you at a time, we can take a fighter, or... I could take you both and take a drop ship. Both sparrow and Becky looked at each other before nodding.

They looked at the pilot and both said "Drop ship!!" The pilot looked at them and nodded.

"Marshal, we will be taking Drop ship Epsilon." The marshal nodded and the pilot beckoned the kids to follow. They walked through the hanger which was empty. They reached the back of the hanger where there was a door. Opening it they stepped through the kids gasped. "Meet Epsilon" was all he said before walking up to it. Inside the hanger was a ship that was huge to the children. "150 long." The pilot said. The ship was long and slender with a Fish hook shape. On the hook were windows as that was the cockpit. Behind the point of the hook were legs that reached to the floor, holding the ship upright. On the top of the ship were the ships thrusters and under them where what looked like giant clamps. The ship didn't look much like a drop-ship. The pilot pointed at a large box with a hole in the top. "Go sit in there. I will connect it up." The children nodded and dashed for it as the pilot walked to the point of the hook, opened a hatch and climbed into the cockpit. The children got into the container and looked around. There were seats, weapon holsters and Ammo crates attached to walls. The kids sat in a seat beside each other and pulled the straps down and around themselves. A few minutes later a voice echoed through the speakers.

"Welcome the Drop ship Epsilon. Today we will be taking you up into space for a short trip. Make sure you are buckled in and do not unbuckle until I have opened the hatch. Fail to obey these rules and you will instantly be thrown off this ship and banned from entering it again." The voice belonged to the pilot. Both kids nodded though they knew the pilot couldn't see. A few minutes later a high pitched whine filled the cabin as the engines on the drop-ship started up. The doors on the cabin hissed and crack sounded as they locked.

The voice of the pilot filled the cabin again. "Connecting in: 5. 4. 3. 2. 1... The cabin shuddered as the Drop-ship landed on top of it. A few seconds later the drop-ships clamps caught hold of the Cabin. "Connection complete. Hold tight." The cabin shuddered again and the engines whined again at the change of weight. "Jeez guys, who is the heavy one?" The pilot joked before the speakers crackled and another voice chimed in.

"Hello children. My name is Amanda. I am the E.V.E of the Airforce." A soft female voice sounded into Sparrows ear. --Sparrow had learned about the E.V.E system. It was the Experimental Vocal Emitter. The program was designed by the Pilots of the Ame 7 Air-force after they got sick of the monotone voice of the computer. The E.V.E was made to sound the most relaxing voice to the Pilots and all those who heard it. - "Right now, we are going to be going for a trip into space where you shall get to see what it's like." The voice carried on. "Once the hatch has been opened, feel free to explore the craft."

The voice cut off and Sparrow turned to Becky, both of their eyes full of excitement. He was about to Open his mouth but Becky started talking first.

"Did you hear Philips voice?" She sighed. "It was so dreamy..." Sparrow looked confused for a moment before remembering that Becky was off planet during the explanation of the E.V.E system and the rest of the items the crew used. Sparrow looked up, a soft ticking filling the cabin before it got louder and louder. The tick multiplied into thousands upon thousands of ticks. The noise grew so much the children covered their ears and the speaker clicked on again and Amanda's voice burst above the noise.

"Children, do not be alarmed. The bubble has been turned off for the ship to exit. "her voice said, and a snap on the back of the cabin made the children jump and turn around. The back of the Cabins wall had vanished and turned to what looked like Glass. Sparrow looked through it and saw the rain pummeling into the take off pad. The sky was dark as usual and Sparrow placed his arm around Becky. Amanda carried on speaking after the pause. "We will be taking of momentarily." Sparrow felt Becky tense and shudder with excitement. She had been off planet many, many times but never with Sparrow. Sparrow had never left the planet. Becky could feel Sparrow shaking beside her, so she turned to look at him. His face was pale and he his forehead was breaking out into a light sweat. This had happened to Becky on her first flight, she knew what Sparrow wanted to do. Instantly she reached over and grabbed both of Sparrows hands and held them tightly as he began to struggle.

"L-Let me go!" He demanded as he struggled still. In his Struggling, he accidently elbowed Becky in the face and she let go of his hands and held her cheek. The engines started to rumble and the ship started to vibrate which made Sparrows panic Worse. The groan of the engines became higher, until it was a cry, then a scream. The cabin shook violently and Sparrow quickly undid his harness and jumped out of his seat, rushing for the back of the cabin where he and Becky entered. Suddenly sparrow heard Becky scream and an explosion sounded in the engines. The ship was thrust forward with such power that Sparrow was thrown across the cabin and into the door with a heavy thud. The ship rocketed forward until Sparrow was being forced flat against the door with enough force to squeeze the air from his lungs and crush him against the door. Becky was still Screaming as ship shot off the end of the runway and off the platform. Sparrows eyes started to roll in his skull, his lungs where empty, his throat was dry, he couldn't breathe. Second after second, minute after minute Sparrow was forced against the door. He tried to move his arms but he couldn't, nothing would move. Eventualy the roar of the engines became quiet and the ship groaned as it broke into space and started to float, letting the engines cool. With the sudden loss of momentum, the force holding Sparrow to the door stopped and he took a long shuddering breath which felt like someone was dragging his lungs along a cheese grater. Sparrow fell backwards and floated along the cabin, just breathing hard, his eyes closed.

Becky watched her friend as he floated towards her. She reached over and gingerly pulled him from the air and into her arms. Sparrows face and arms where covered with gashes and scratches, his lips where blue from lack of air and heart was beating so fast Becky worried it would stop. Becky held Sparrow in her arms for what felt like eternity to her, but was really moments. Slowly Sparrows eyes opened after a few attempts and the first thing he saw was Becky's tear stained face. Sparrow reached up and placed his hand on her cheek.

"I'm sorry." Was all he said before that connected to the cockpit hissed and slid open. The pilot slid through before holding onto a harness to stop. He looked at Sparrow and looked furious.

"What's with you children!? I said I wouldn't take you up because you would not listen and wouldn't buckle! We are going right back down! You're in trouble kid!" He made his way towards the children. "Get in the cockpit. I'm going to have to patch you up. Go on. Both of you!" Beck in buckled and Floated past the pilot with Sparrow. They both entered the cockpit when an alarm buzzed from a compute then a monotone voice of the computer filled the cabin.

"Warning, Warning: incoming asteroid. Warning, Warning: Incoming asteroid." It said and the Pilot suddenly paled.

"What? Impossible!" The pilot shouted before spinning around and diving for the cockpit. Time seemed to slowdown for Sparrow and Becky as the computer said: Brace for impact. Move away from doors.

It was too late, The pilot was halfway through the hatch when it slammed shut. The pilot called out in the agony as the hatch continued to close on him, crushing his ribs. Becky started to scream and Sparrow covered her eyes and she covered her ears as the cracks got louder as did the pilot's screams as he fruitlessly tried to push himself free. Sparrows eyes met the pilots. Tears were rolling down his face, but as the light caught them Sparrow noticed it was blood. Blood was pouring from the mans nose, eyes mouth and ears as his organs were destroyed. The main tried to speak but all that came out was more blood which floated in balls in the air. There was a final crack and the door slammed shut. Sparrow watched as the man's face paled and more blood floated into the air from behind him. Slowly the man floated away from the door... half of him. The door had sliced him in half.

Becky tried to move Sparrow's hands but he held them in place tightly as the torso of the man floated towards him, blood orbing behind him wile he left a trail of gore. Sparrow felt like he was about to vomit when suddenly the ship was hit with something. The force of the impact spun the ship violently and it span back into orbit where it was pulled towards the planet. The alarms flared from every computer, sirens blared and the lights turned to a red warning light. Through all of this, Sparrows eyes never left the pilots as they glazed over. Becky was screaming but everything had stopped for Sparrow. There was no sound, no pain, no... no.. anything... Only the pilot's dead eyes. Suddenly everything came to sparrow.

"Becky!" Sparrow called over the noise. "Take the ribbon off! And give it to me! Whatever you do! Do NOT open your eyes!" Sparrow demanded and Becky complied. She undid the ribbon and passed it to sparrow. Sparrow moved his hands to take it and Becky kept her eyes closed as she was told. After tying the silken ribbon around Becky's eyes, Sparrow grabbed the pilot's helmet and pulled it off. Blood started to flood the cockpit in orbs but Sparrow wasn't fazed. Pulling the helmet on Sparrow felt an explosion rip through the drop-ship cabin where he and Becky were minutes before. The ship lurched and stared to spin more rapidly and it sped up, falling into the atmosphere at a deadly rate. He pulled strap on the helmet, tightening it up. He took a deep breath as he tried to remember how the equipment worked.

A loud tearing noise filled the cockpit as the cabin was torn free, plummeting past the cockpit with a rock the size of a car stuck in the side of it. The cabin fell before exploding, making the cockpit roll as well as spin. Sparrow pulled the microphone from the bottom of the helmet and the buzz filled his ears as it activated.

"Mayday. Mayday!" he shouted into it. He got no response so he tried again. "Mayday! Mayday! This is the Drop-shop Epsilon! Mayday!" Static filled Sparrows ears before Ann's voice broke through.

"Sparrow?!...Must...But...Unde-?" The microphone buzzed and cracked before dying completely. He pulled the helmet off and chucked it down. This was it. Sparrow looked around and jumped into the pilots Seat. Infront of him were hundreds of buttons and dials and a control stick. Sparrow instantly grabbed it and closed his eyes. Another explosion sounded off and the ship flipped forward as one of the engines exploded. The Stick jolted in Sparrow's hands, nearly pulling him from the seat. He took a deep breath and twisted it. The ship slowly stopped spinning as the last engine screamed and groaned as it pushed against the force of the spin. Soon as the ship stopped spinning the engine exploded like the first. The ship shot towards the planet. The ship was still rolling but Sparrow had an Idea. He turned and pushed the stick in the opposite direction of the spin and the flaps on the wings tore into the wind as he used the Yaw and flaps to controlee the spin. A few heart stopping minutes passed before the Spin stopped. Sparrow looked at Becky who was cowering against the wall, the force of the fall pushing her flat against it with the torso of the pilot. Sparrow used all the strength he had to the stick to pull the ship flat, slowing the fall slightly, reach round, grab Becky and pull her into the seat before pulling the Harness tight around them both. Becky was quiet. She wasn't crying or screaming anymore, she had accepted the fate. She knew she would die, but it was okay because she was with Sparrow. Sparrow grabbed the stick and turned the ship with all his strength towards the Army section. As he watched hundreds of ships took off and flew towards the crippled ship. Many with water turrets on top of them. Sparrow looked out the window and saw crowds on every platform in sight as they watched him and Becky as they plummeted to their deaths. Sparrow felt Becky sweating then noticed how hot the cockpit had gotten. Sparrow turned the ship and one of the wings tore off and the ship started to roll again.

Sparrow let go of the stick and wrapped his arms around Becky. She placed her hands on his and simply said. "Happy birthday... Sparrow..." Before the ship spiraled into the platform.

Ann watched Sparrow and Becky as they raced into the Drop-ship cabin. The marshal stepped up beside her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Looks just like his father..." Said the marshal and Ann nodded slowly. Ann watched as the Drop-ship lifted off and spun in the air as it was navigated round. The ship lowered and landed on the back of the cabin and clasped hold of it.

"Got a good pilot with them I hope." Muttered Ann as the hanger bay doors opened. The ship lifted off the ground by a few inches and wheels dropped from the bottom of the cabin then slowly the ship flew out while the cabin was dragged under it to give it control at slow speeds. The ship pulled onto the lift off platform and the bubble opened and a cascade of rain flew down, soaking the platform within seconds. Slowly the engines burned a bright red before white as the throttle was opened. Now the only thing keeping this powerful ship to the ground was the brakes. Ann tensed up under the Marshals hand as she watched the ship as the flames shot back 10 meters with an explosion, rocketing the ship forward. Ann watched as the ship shot off the end of the platform then dropped from sight and held her breath. Moments later the ship roared up and into the Skies above as the bubble re appeared. A curtain of water blocking Ann's view from the ship.

"Come on," said the marshal softly. "Let's go get you some coffee." Ann nodded then they started to walk away. The Marshal turned his head to Ann. "But first. Would you like to go get the cake? We can set it up my office." Ann nodded, she had forgotten about the Cake, it was still in the car! Ann nodded and was about the run off when the Marshal grabbed her wrist in his might grip. "I have a better idea." Was all he said before he stepped into his office and walked back out with a pair of boots. "Here, use these. They're my new hover-boots (Cliché?) They will get you there and back faster, not to mention safely, the platform is not made for rain, so it's slippery." Ann nodded and pulled the boots on. She then took a button from the Marshal and walked to the door.

"Thank you!" She said before she ran out the door. Soon as she left the door war Ann jumped then hit the button and as soon as it clicked down the boots started to vibrate as they burst into life. Ann leaned forwards and she shot along the path towards the car-park. The marshal wasn't kidding, everywhere Ann looked she saw people slipping around on the pad while many were laughing as they had boots like Ann's. As Ann felt comfortable she started to move her feet as if she was Ice skating, speeding her up considerably. As Ann got closer to the Car-park she had a huge grin on her face as she pulled into it, narrowly missing a car which honked, only to apologies when they saw who it was. Leaning back Ann slowed down and came to a stop behind her car, once she had came to a complete stop she placed her palm on the trunk and then moved her palm in a slicing motion as Sparrow had done earlier and the trunk seemed to vanish. Reaching in and pulling out the Box, Ann smiled as she opened it, she was proud of the cake that took months of preparation and hours of concentration to make. The cake was a model of Ame 7 while above it were fighter jets and Drop-ships in a battle with each other during practice drills. Each ship was held up by a thrusters of marzipan and rocket smoke trails of icing, and under those ships was Ann's master piece for there was the Frigate of A.D.A.M-Advanced Defensive Automated Machine- It had taken hours and hours to get all this made. In fact she started days before the actually birthday. She admired the whole cake before closing the box gently and moving back from the Car which closed and locked the trunk automatically. Turning around Ann activated the boots and made her way back towards the barracks.

As Ann made her way back she saw people looking up and trying to look through the curtain of water on the bubble so Ann looked up to see herself but shrugged and carried on. Strangle everyone was looking up and as soon as she got to the barracks the Marshal flung the door open, his face pale, a look of horror and guilt on his face. "Ann! Come inside...! Quickly!" And indicated to the cake and grinned, having expected the Marshal to have dropped some coffee. She wanted him to see her work. Seeing her smile The Marshal said the words that made her heart explode: It's your son...

Ann dropped the cake which had taken days to make and dashed inside, turning the power off to the boots as she went, making her trip. Jumping up she raced into the office and marshal pointed to a headset. She put it on...

Mayday! Mayday! Cried a child voice and soul was destroyed with her heart_. "Mayday! Mayday! This is the Drop-shop Epsilon! Mayday!"_ Ann quickly hit the button to activate her microphone and she screamed into it.

"S-Sparow?! You must give the control to the pilot! But please! Keep talking to me! Talk to mommy!-" Ann had not called herself that in Sparrow was 4."- So you understand? Talk to mommy! Please!!" She cried the last words but the microphone was dead, all she could hear was static. She dropped to hear knees and sobbed. A man raced in through the door and shouted.

"Ship in sight! Sound the alarm!" The main was Damian the Medic from earlier. The marshal nodded and hit the Alarms and sirens blared from every section of the platform, as well as on many others. Ann jumped up and hit the button on the boots and shot out the room, pushing the medic aside as she went. The Marshal tried to catch Ann before she left but missed by inches so he dashed out the room after her, followed by the Medic. The rain was falling again as the bubble failed with the alarm. Ann washed as ships flew out in every direction then turned when the Marshal grabbed her arm.

"Ann! Get inside, you can't see this!" Was all he said before an explosion tore through the air like a thunderclap and people screamed, causing Ann to spin around and see the cabin that Sparrow and Becky entered. She was about to race over to it when she noticed the huge rock in the side of it. She knew her children were dead. Ann turned and buried her face into the Marshal's chest and wept. She stay like this for a few minutes before another sound filled her ears and she turned, shaking with sorrow. Looking up she saw the drop-ship spinning, rolling and burning as it shot through the atmosphere and towards the platform. "Fire teams one through six!" boomed the Marshal. "Get up there! Get that phoenix under control!" Phoenix was the term for a burning bird, or ship.

Moments after the command ships shot into the air towards the drop-ship. Ann watched as slowly it stopped spinning and then saw as the engines exploded and blasted the back of the ship to pieces which rained down into the water miles below.

"H-how is that possible..?" Asked Ann who continued to sob as she watched. As she watched she saw the ship stop rolling for a moment and felt relieved. At least the pilot would survive... she thought as the Fire crews reached the ship and followed in its wake, spraying it with water to cool down the ship and to put it out. But on, and on the ship fell the course of the ship changing so it flew towards the platform.

Everyone screamed and shouted as one of the rings got torn off, sending the ship into an uncontrollable spin, from which it could never escape. As the wing flew back it clipped a few fire ship which had to pull out and land while the others backed off and followed their team towards a landing strip, having used all their water. The crowd held its breath as the ship came closer... and closer... then... BOOM! The ship smashed headlong into the platform, causing it to shake and rock slightly as the ship bounded, span, twisted then rolled to a stop, leaving a trail of flaming debris for a good mile. Many medics raced towards the burning ship while the rain started to put the flames out. Ann let go of the Marshal and leaned flat down as she flew towards the ship with a crazy speed. As she got closer, she hit the button and tucked up, going into a roll before placing her feet in front of her and hitting the button again, stopping suddenly beside the craft. Soon as she Stopped Ann pulled at the cockpit hatch, burning her hands with such ferocity that her whole body burned, but she ignored it as she tore the hatch open and jumped inside only to stop suddenly. Inside the hatch was carnage... There were organs laying around the place, many burned and torn apart while half of the pilot lay, skewered on a rod on the wall. Ann picked her way through all the wreckage which burned her with every touch before she saw a site that nearly killed her. There in the pilots chair lay Sparrow and Becky, both bleeding, both unmoving.

Climbing over consoles and blood stained debris while machines sparked and whirred out as the power system in the ship turned off. Reaching the children Ann unbuckled them both before pulling them from the chair as if they were china. She stepped out of the ship, burned and covered in blood. The medics had just reached her and the bubble had reformed, so Ann placed the children onto waiting Stasis pods and looked at the children, as she started to weep again. Both of the children would suffer so much. Ann reached down and untied the blindfold around Becky's eyes and saw it was her ribbon. She reached down and was about to tie it to her wrist but she stopped and felt cold. Becky's arm was gone, she had lost an arm and it was Ann's fault. She organized this, it was HER fault.

"I-I'm sorry!" She cried at the medics, and the children, to everyone and everything around her as she started to vomit onto the pad beside the ship. Taking a deep shuddering breath and looked at her son, both of his legs where destoried. He would need new ones.. his arms where broken and he was burned. She looked at Becky again and saw her injuries. She had lost an arm, her face and body where covered in gashes and burns. Her arm and leg were misshapen as they were broke...but what bothered Ann the most... was the look on their faces... they looked happy, even peaceful. She looked at her son who's eyes twitched and kneeled beside the pod.

His eyes opened after a few attempts and Ann leaned over him. "It's okay... It's o-okay..." Ann said softly, as if she were talking to a frightened and hurt animal. "Mommies here, it's okay... Talk to me... "

Sparrow looked at Becky, then to the Ship and his mother. "P-per...-" he whispered and Ann lent down, placing her ear beside his lips. "Per..mision..To land..?" Sparrow said before closing his eyes again and the Stasis pod activated, freezing Sparrow in his sleep. Ann stood up and walked to Becky who still had her eyes closed. Ann placed her fingers on Becky's cheek softly and leaned down, kissing her forhead. This child has seen too much suffering... has had to much pain and loss.. Ann thought to herself and stood up, nodding at the Medic who closed her pod, locking her in her sleep before taking them away to the infirmary. One medic looked at Ann and shook her head sadly.

The marshal came up beside Ann, he could have stopped her coming if he wanted to, he knew he wanted to, but she would have never forgiven him. Ann closed her eyes and leaned on him, shuddering and shaking violently. "They.. they won't survive.. will they?" Asked Ann and the Marshal never answered but instead he picked her up and took her to towards the Barracks, she needed rest and cream for the burns, and maybe a drink or two.

The Marshal entered his office and placed Ann down in his Cot, -which was a privilege for any officer to have a bed in their office.- and walked to his desk. Pulling out a sheet of paper, he began to write on it, before hitting it with a stamp and getting another one. He wrote on that one and hit it with the stamp as well before pulling out a third and ticking some boxes before taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly.

"Ann-Marie, I know you don't want to hear this... But your children may not survive in the state they are in. I have a way to save them... but they must be given to the army... They have to undergo argumentation..." said the marshal slowly. Argumentation was a operation given to wounded soilders and pilots. It would make their bones nigh unbreakable, make them strong, fast.. it would make them super humans. Many people could undergo this operation, but it would cost billions to perform. To those in the army it was free. Also, the argumentation would upgrade their brains with something that was called A.p.p.l.e- the Advanced, personal, projected Life form equipment.- like the other soilders had. It would give the user the ability to have a built in computer that would work for them, making their life in the army much easier. It would let them communicate with anyone within their team without using the mouth, just their mind. The A.P.P.L.E would make them super human. But the cost was they had to give up a life of freedom, for a life of fighting and war.-

Ann looked at the Marshal, and looked like she lost her children again. "Is there no other way?!" She pleaded. The life in the army was a nightmare. "Please. I beg you... anything else but the frontlines! Please... I lost my husband like that.. I don't want to lose a son and... and a daughter."

The marshal thought about it for a minute before changing something on each of the sheets and nodding. "Pilots." Was all he said and slid the paper across the table and Ann read it through. The contract would give them free training, education, health care and the A.P.P.L.E operation. After reading it through Ann nodded and signed it.

"Please forgive me..." was all she said as she slid the paper back. The marshal nodded and pulled out a bottle and placed it on the table, he then picked up two glasses and filled them, handing Ann one after.

"Well, A toast.. A toast to Sparrow." He said and Ann raised her glass before draining it as the Marshal had done. She coughed at the strong liquid as it burned her throat. "To Becky." He said and filled it again. They both drained it and he filled it once more. "To a safe life, safe operation and a safe sky." Said the Marshal, then they both drained their glasses and stood up. "you are welcome to stay if you want. But I will take you to your children. Come on." The marshal put his arm around Ann's shoulder and they walked off towards the infirmary where the wounded children lay in the pods.

Program used: Word

Words used: Ten thousand.

Whom I want to thank: Nocturnal Lupus (for putting up with me on MSN and helping me design a ship)

andfoxmoulder992 (For saying he liked it and asking me to write more, thank you.)

Tired: Kinda.

I would just like to say, If you find any mistakes, please. Try to work around them and then point them out. I failed my English classes in school (surprised?) and I work with the skills I have.

If you would like one more childhood chapter, say so. Or I will just time skip a few years till training.

Again, any mistakes, point them out. (Not to mention I was rushed. I hate deadlines,)

Thank you for reading. I will try and get a new chapter done soon.
