Mother's Fury

Seogheith soared high above the forests near her home. The great silver wyrm beat her wings in the air gracefully, as she hardly made a sound. Her white slitted eyes were full of purpose and determination, as hail swished side to side in the air. She could see the sun's rays starting to cast long shadows all over the ground below, as dusk was about to set in. She shook her head as she tried to get the image that had happened today out of her mind.

She had returned home to find two of her wrymlings huddled together and crying, such a horrid thing to hear the dreadful cry of a wrymling's sorrow. "What has happened?" she had asked, quickly moving to embrace the little silver and red wrymling. "Where is your brother?"

"H-he was hit by one of those arrow things." the red wrymling called Veledar said first. He than gave a big sniff, "I didn't mean to lead him there, we were just flying!" he cried out. Veledar buried his snout into her silver scales, his sobbing now muffled. No. She sat their on her haunches frozen for a moment. It was hard to believe this had happened. _First him, now......this._She held her snout low as she looked to her other wrymling called Adalina. The little wrymling seemed to be just as shock as her brother but was silently sobbing to herself. Seoghieth wrapped one of her great wings around her and pulled the wrymling close to her.

"He's gone isn't he?" Adalina asked softly, "But what about the spells in the books that can resurrect the mortals?" "That does not work for dragons." Seogheith sighed, "We cannot come back to life."

Seogheith shook her head and returned her vision to the task at hand. She smelled in deep, smelling the scent of human and horse. This is what she sought, a caravan moving away from her home. The caravan consisted of three covered wagons and a single carriage. It was traveling across the dirt part that ran through her part of the forest. The ones who had slew her son in cold blood, her wrymling son. She quickened her pace as she descended towards one of the covered wagons.

The horse rider she flew towards did not even know she was coming as her maw closed on him and ripped him from his horse. He gave a startled scream as she tossed him into the air. He flew at least six feet up into the air before he came crashing down to the ground. She tried to not feel satisfaction that his crumpled form did not rise from dirt. Whinnies and screams sounded from around her as she turned her neck to see several more riders. She opened her maw to unleash a cone of intense cold on three of the riders. They did not breathe a word as they froze to the spot, covered head to toe in icicles.

She let out a great roar as the caravan tried to recover from her ambush. Men billowed out of the covered wagons with bows. They had arrows ready to knock that she knew had dragon's bane poison on them. It was the very poison that had helped this group slay Veledar's parent. With a flick of her claw and tail, a fireball flew towards the men. The flaming sphere struck right behind the group of men, and detonated in a fiery explosion. The ones closest to the detonation were incinerated instantly, without even a scream from them. The others were flown forward to impact the ground roughly, their burned bodies did not rise from the ground.

Arrows were loosed on her from the others coming from the wagons. She snarled and with a flick of her tail let a blue shimmering field surround her scales. The poisoned arrows reflected off of her scales harmlessly, to the collected screams in terror from the archers. She bounded towards them, letting her breath once again do the talking for her. Archers froze from her breath, others ran as her tail whipped some more over. There little attack against her soon turned into a flee for their very lives. Any of the fools that got close were torn to shreds by her claws, or ripped to pieces by her teeth. When the men around her were dead, she noticed the carriage had sped away with several others. YOU ARE NOT GETTING AWAY! She spread her wings and bounded towards the carriage that no doubt carried the hunter than had slain her wrymling.

The horse riders guarding the carriage let out shouts as she flew over head. She did not let them shout out for long, as another breath of hers silenced one. The other she curled her claw, and let loose a beam of blue energy from her eyes. The beam misted as the intense cold impacted the rider. He was thrown from his horse for a second, as his body froze. When he impacted onto the ground he shattered into many pieces. Seogheith landed in front of the carriage, causing the horses pulling it to stop and rear up in fear. "FACE ME COWARD!" she roared out in fury as she spread her wings wide, and thrashed her tail against the ground.

From the carriage came a balding man. He was clad in brown leathers, and wore a tabard of green. On it was the symbol of a lion holding a sword and shield. "It is me you want dragon!" He said stepping onto the ground. He pulled out a sword from his side, as he eyed her unafraid.

We will have to change that."YOU KILLED MY OFFSPRING!" she roared, digging into the ground with her sharp claws. Scattering the dirt behind her. She thought to her dragoness friend who had taught her a spell. Emerald Lady was her name, and it allowed her to change her breath weapon to any element. I am going to burn him alive, make him suffer for my child.

"I did dear dragon! Your child was preparing to attack our caravan! I decided to end the threat before it began!."

"YOU JUSTIFY KILLING A WRYMLING....YOU MONSTER!" She swelled her chest and flicked her tail. She could feel the sensation of the now fire pooling in her glands. She tried to not grin as she suddenly let the fire spring forth from her maw. The man went to dodge, but was clearly not prepared fully. Perhaps the fire surprised him. She smiled as the flames enveloped him, than to his carriage. She tried to not feel a large amount of pride as his screams filled the air. She started to strode over as he was smoldering on the ground. It was the next sound that made her blood turn to ice. There were two other sounds, the one of a woman, and the other clearly from a child. The screams came full force from the carriage again. NO HE COULDN'T HAVE, NO HE COULDN'T POSSIBLY!

She bounded towards the carriage that was now enveloped in flames and filled with the sound of a screaming woman and child. Seogheith desperately ripped open the carriage with her claws, despite the fire burning her. She tossed the door aside, and reached in. She winced in pain as the flames licked her scales in agony. She felt her claws find purchase on the two forms of the woman in child. Please no. She pulled them out of the carriage, but found they were now silent. Seogheith sat on her haunches, staring at the two corpses in her hands. The two badly burned innocent souls that had been caught in her vengeance.

Seogheith raised her head, and let loose a roar of pain that echoed across the country side. It went on for a solid minute as she thrashed her tail, and tears started to flow down her snout. She looked down to her claws and scales, now covered in blood of her enemies. Not only had he taken her child from her, but in her vengeance she had slaughtered this whole group of mortals. Something she was always against. She had been the first to always offer them a helping hand, or seek a better way at handling situations. She curled her head around to see the burned corpses, the frozen bodies, and all the blood she had scattered around the road. Seogheith hung her head in shame. She spread her wings again, and took flight back towards her lair. Somehow I will find a way to make this right. She thought to the woman and child caught in her fire. I am sorry.
