  • * * Despair has a name. A hooded figure ran down an empty alleyway, the full moon was high in the sky and the rain clouds seemed to stray from it, never touching it as they pelted the city with what seemed like endless rain.. The faint breeze of wind brought distasteful smells that were harsh to the nose, the strong scent of salt water mixed with rust and the horrid smell of garbage left weeks to long. The figure raised a hand and placed it over it's mouth as it continued to run. The barking of dogs was the only thing that could be heard through the rain, every now and then the streets would light up brighter than day as a fork of lightening appeared in the sky. The figure was running from something, that was obvious as it kept looking over its shoulder, sometimes resulting in stumbling as it took it's eyes off what was in front. Soon it stopped, looking desperately around, running from one side of a alley to the other as it ran a delicate furred hand over the wet bricks of the walls. At one spot the creature stopped and looked around, the top of the hood shifted slightly back to reveal a small white muzzle. The fur beat it's palm against the brinks and slowly they moved back and to the side to expose a dark flight of stairs. The fur moved down into the darkness of the stairs, a hand against the wall to help support her and feel where she was going, slowly taking the steps one by one, to trip and fall would cause serious injury. "Their tracing us...." "How long?" "Three minutes tops." "Can you do it in that time?" "Maybe...." Loud music could be heard, that of ravers, shouts and laughter littered the air as the two furs gathered around a computer. A fox was standing behind the other who was sitting on a chair, larger than normal for his species, his colours were typical, a rather nasty looking scar going from his right cheekbone to the base of his neck, he wore black denim jeans with a white sweat shirt. The other who was typing away at the computer was a mouse, dull grey fur with black hair that went past his shoulders, a dark blue trench coat hiding most of his body from sight. The only light in the room coming from the computer. "Your going to slow!" "Shut up! This would be a hell of a lot easier if you had gotten the program like you were meant too." "May better get back soon....." The loud music hit the ears of the cloaked figure and the tunnel started to light up and it hurried down the stairs, passing through the door at the end and into a dense crowd as she pushed her way through past the many different species as they moshed together at the music of the DJ. The air was heavy with the smell of sweat mixed with that of cigarette smoke as the coloured lights flashed on and off. She was pushed and jumped on more than once, many furs left with broken fingers for touching where they should not. Finally she broke through the crowd and rushed around the back of the stage and knocked firmly on the door. "Who's there?" The tall fox glanced at his partner and then made his way over to the door, picking up a dagger along the way. "Maybe it's May, she has been gone for a day now." The look on the mouse's face was calm but the twitching of his hand gave him away. "Open up already, I'm not going to stand out here all night!" The voice that was normally soft was now loud and somewhat frantic. "I knew it was her, open the door!" The mouse quickly said, the words following from his mouth as the tension eased. The fox was already opening the door and stepped to the side before he was knocked over my the cloaked women. She lowered the hood of the cloak to reveal short pink and white fur and her pale red eyes, hair falling back into the cloak bar a few locks that strayed around her face, her long ears where smoothed back and mixed in with the pink and white striped hair. A rabbit. "Where have you been?" The fox asked as he placed the dagger onto a counter near the door. "I've been trying to lose a follower for the last seven damn hours!" She complained as she reached into her wet cloak and searched for something. "A follower? You kidding, it's amazing your alive, not many have lived to tell the tale of them." "Don't you think I know that, It wasn't a bloody walk in the park." She scowled and threw a disc at the mouse. "There, I over heard someone say there was a tracer on it, as soon as you use it to override something they will know about it, some kind of safety feature if it fell into the wrong hands and such. Anyway, think you can break it?" "Well if I don't we will either be suck here in this city until we die or I bring the entire company down onto us." He replied as he placed the disc into one of the many drives. "Hey May, I want to talk to you." The fox pointed a thumb at the door. "Sure, it's all up to you now Tim." She said to the mouse that was busily typing away at the computer before moving to the door and walking through. "God I have missed you, Thank god your alive." He said as the door closed behind them and he moved his arms around her waist and nipped playfully at her neck. She tilted her head to the side and raised and hand, running around his neck to rest at the back. "Already Dyne? I've just been running for around six or so hours." "And you still look so beautiful." He murred as he raised one of his hands and caressed one of her small breasts and kissed down along her shoulder as he moved the cloak to the side. She rested back against him and looked out over the crowd, they were all busy jumping around like insane kangaroos but in fact that was the only thing keeping them away from the reality of the city outside. Parting her legs as his other hand slipped inside of the cloak and rested against her thigh she simply smiled. They would not notice them, they were like zombies until the music stopped, Dyne and her had mated against the door behind them and none of them noticed, well the DJ did, she giggled to herself as she remembered the shock of the DJ and the music screwing up for a moment. "Shit! Run!" The Music stopped and was replaced by screams and shouts as they all rushed towards the door and up the stairs. The hands left her body and she looked for the source of the confusion, her heart stopped upon finding it. "The follower..." She whispered. The in front of them stood a single fur, his light brown eyes watching them both, his fur a dull grey colour mixed with white in some places, clothing a black jacket and a white shirt under it, dark blue loose trousers that tucked into thick black boots. It wasn't the clothes that gave him away, in truth he looked like any other feline. What was in his hand was the reason, the blue laser sword. "A women... I see...." The voice was deep and somehow carried a tone of mystery to it. "I swear I lost you, I couldn't see you for a hour before reaching here..." May's voice was low, half of shock and fear. "Of course not, I didn't wish to be seen so I did not reveal myself to you." The Follower took a few steps forward. Dyne pushed past her and yelled, a dagger in his hand as he went to slash. The Follower stepped back as if nothing hand happened and then brought his leg up, booted foot connecting with Dyne's muzzle and he fell back to the ground, motionless. May screamed and turned, before she could take a step she could feel the heat of the laser close to her throat. "I have come to offer you a deal...." He took the silence from her as a yes. "...You have something that is very useful to me, but I will not take it from you, we both want the same thing, to get out of the city, the information and program that you stole is the only way to leave." "Why....." Was the only thing she could get out. "You think I like being trapped in this city, with these people, taking orders from a furson I have never seen. The people are disease infested....How ever...." He reached around the front of her and opened the cloak and moved it from her shoulders, causing it to fall to the ground. She stood there in a black leotard designed battle suit. "You are very different, you are not like the others I have seen..." He took a long sniff as her neck. "You smell....Clean...." "Don't move or I will kill you!" She slowly looked over her shoulder to see the Follower doing the same, the voice sounded like the DJ's. "You think you can kill me with that little knife?" "If you move I will run you through." He turned his head back to look at her and her eyes grew wider, he was smiling and then the heat from her neck was gone. She pushed through the door in front of her and locked it just before the scream hit her ears. Tim jumped at the screen and spun in his chair to face her. "What the hell was that? Where's Dyne?" "A....Follower, his here!" The mouse's eyes rolled up into the back of his head and he fell to the floor, fainted. May cursed and looked around for her weapon, ANY weapon. "I will not kill the other who is out here, if you agree to my terms of course....." "W-what are they?" She said quickly as she rummaged through the discarded printing paper and boxes. "I will let you and your little friends continue to find the way out, I am now classed as rogue since I did not report in, I have no care for killing but I will not hesitate, although it would be such a waste to have to kill you..." "You will let us as long as you can come with?" "Just show me the way and I will be out of your fur...." She couldn't find it, the dagger was gone from the counter as well as her own weapons, they must have been moved while she was gone. "Alright..." "Then open the door...." She complied and let him into the room, she saw Dyne stirring behind him and she quickly rushed over to him and held his head to her chest. "He will be fine....He isn?t dead." She knew that it was true, she could see his chest rising and falling but that didn't make it any better Before she could reply to the Feline he had moved into the small room and had his eyes on the computer. "You, Rodent..." May looked into the door, there was no way that he could have found Tim so easily, no matter what he was. She could not see Tim anywhere and knew that if she tried she would not be able to find him for hours, when something went wrong he always disappeared until it blew over, she could not blame him though, it was just the nature of his species. "I know you are in here, I can smell you. If you don't come out now I will have to drag you out, you don't want that to happen." A few moments after movement could be heard and the mouse stepped into the light, his body shaking and his eyes searching for a safe way out. "Sit down, return to the work you were doing and no harm will befall you." After saying that the Feline turned and walked out of the room, pushing past May. "Good idea, scare him out of his mind, that's sure to make him real helpful." He stopped for a moment before seeming to shrug but he started walking again. She turned and moved quickly into the room. "It's alright Tim, don't be afraid. I think we may be able to use him if we play our cards right." She placed her hands on his shoulders and started to rub gently, his shaking slowed and soon stopped completely as he returned to typing. "Just let him think he is superior now, soon it will all work out for the best." She said as she looked out the doorway to see Dyne stirring and trying to sit up which only resulted on him on his back and holding his head. She rushed over to him and kneeled down beside his body, placing a hand on his chest and the other on his forehead as she said soft words of reassurance. "Tell him not to move, a blow like that will make him unstable, most likely if he stands he will end up throwing up." She glared at the Follower, the fact that he seemed to carry an air of superiority around him irritated her to no end, talking so calmly like that, but he probably does things like that everyday. It was true however, as Dyne sat up properly he pulled to the side and heaved, slowly the smell starts to hang in the closed air. She heard the door close behind her, Tim would return to his work, he was the most desperate out of them, well....Perhaps not the most....She glanced to the follower. "Come outside, let the fox rest while you get some fresh air." She felt the weight of Dyne's unconscious body against her arms and she laid him on his side before standing and making her way out of the club.
