Leo's Life - Chapter 8

Leo awakens on a new day and his whole life changes.

The night sky began to fade away as the sun attempted to peak over the horizon of the LA valley. The clouds covered the city from the storm that had ended hours ago making the sky nothing but shades of gray. The morning air was slightly cool for the time of year as the city started to beam back to life.

Inside the tiny studio apartment Leo Sparks slept on his side in his twin sized bed. He was close to the edge of the bed and a blanket was draped over his body but, only came up to his shoulder. The apartment was dark, with the shades closed and the gray sky just outside, there wasn't much light to be seen. Clothes were strung around the apartment's floor from the night before.

Leo was out at the pier where he wanted to collect his thoughts and try and relax. That same day became worse when he found out he lost the lead to a movie and later told his best friend he loved him. He was so ashamed and embarrassed he took off running. Shortly after he ran away, the sky's opened and the storm had begun.

When he had returned to his apartment he cried even more until his best friend, Nathan knocked on the door. That was the moment his night and life changed. Nathan confessed that he too had feelings for Leo. The husky and the kangaroo were deeply in love with one another but, never said anything until then. The two had the most magical night of sex, pizza, and Xbox.

Now, Leo laid in his bed, not alone but, with Nathan. Leo was on his side, facing into the room and Nate was just behind, spooning him with his large muscular arms wrapped around Leo's chest. He enjoyed being the smaller spoon, being held; it made him feel safe, like nothing could touch him.

He stirred as he began to awake from his slumber. As he shifted Nathan's arms tightened and pulled Leo closer towards his chest. Leo's heart fluttered and his face blushed as he could tell he was loved.

Normally he wasn't an early bird but, for some reason he couldn't sleep. He felt like he had a lot of energy to burn off, like all the energy and emotion he had stored over the past several months needed to be burned. He felt a large weight lifted off his shoulders last night but, it felt like there was so more inside him.

As slowly as he could, Leo squirmed out of the bed; leaving his newfound partner's embrace. He didn't want to get up but, he had to. He was careful and quiet enough not to wake up Nathan as he climbed out of the bed and put on some gym shorts and shoes.

Leo made his way to the door and quietly unlocked and snuck out into the empty hallway. He closed the door behind him and headed down the hallway and out of the building. He took off running down the street in just his gym shorts and running shoes. He didn't bring his cellphone or earbuds; just him, his clothing, and his thoughts. A way to break free from distractions and he could focus on the best night of his life.

He jogged down the street for a morning run, something he didn't do too often. He loved to sleep in and more often than not, Nate was the early bird. He would always wake up Leo at 11am by calling him or walking over to his apartment. For once he wanted to be the first one awake plus; Nate used a lot of his energy last night.

When Leo ran he could feel his balls bounce around unsecure. He didn't bother to grab any boxers; he just wanted to be as quick as possible so he didn't wake up the kangaroo. Plus, the air was moist after the storm, raising the humidity and causing him to sweat more than he normally would.

Leo's heels of his shoes compressed and then expanded with each step and his toes propelled him forward. He took in a deep breath of the fresh air. After a heavy rain like that the air always smelled more crisp and clean.

He felt amazing, everything looked different to him, smelled different, felt different. He felt like a different person, like he had been reborn. And with each passing step he took, he felt more weight being lifted off his shoulders. He started to feel positive again. It was almost like he just stepped off the plane back in March.

It was a relatively peaceful day. The cars were had just started to hit the roads for the morning rush hour so there wasn't excessive honking everywhere. There also weren't very many furs on the sidewalks either, some were preparing to open up shop for the day; Leo spotted one or two out for a jog as well.

After jogging for about twenty minutes Leo finally decided to head back home. He rounded the block and headed down another street. His feet stepped into some puddles splashing water up onto his legs. A few times on the jog he had to pull up his shorts to make sure they didn't fall off.

It was amazing how he felt; his mood had taken 180 degree turn around within 24 hours. Before he felt like he was drowning in the largest pool, with nowhere to grab a hold. It had felt like he was on a plane crashing down into snow covered farmland. He had felt like his life was in a nose dive and there was no way out of it. But now. Now, he felt like he was on top of the world.

Leo ran up to his apartment building and ran inside. He got closer to his and Nate's apartments and then slowed back down to a walk. His heart rate was a bit higher than normal due to the jog but, he wasn't out of breath too much. He opened the door and walked inside slowly and quietly.

Nathan was still asleep on the bed, the covers barely covering his torso. He laid to one side and his arms were still laying where Leo left them. Leo stepped deeper into the apartment and took off his shoes. One of them slipped out of his hand and hit the ground. The rubber soul of the shoe bounced off the hardwood floor with a 'thud'.

The sudden noise stirred Nathan awake. His arms reached out for Leo who was no longer beside him. After he quickly realized the husky wasn't there his eyes parted open and he looked around the room. He saw Leo making his way over to the bed and sat down.

"Where did you go?" Nathan spoke in a morning, groggy voice. His muscles begged for him to stretch out but, instead he rubbed Leo's back. He felt the moisture on his fur from both the moisture in the air and the canine's sweat.

"I just went for a quick run. Had to relieve some remaining stress." Leo placed his hand on Nathan's waist and smiled at him.

Nathan finally gave in to his muscles and stretched out his arms and legs in the tiny bed. He let out a big yawn mid-stretch which made him sound like Chewbacca from Star Wars. When he was done stretching he looked back up at the husky. "I had a lot of fun last night."

"Yeah, me too. I haven't been this happy in a long time." Leo replied and leaned in to kiss Nate's forehead. He sat back up after their kiss and looked at the roo. Leo's facial expression changed slightly.

He was happy the two were together, at least he thought they were together. He wanted to ask where they were; if they were boyfriends, exclusive, or just friends with benefits. He didn't want to ask though. He was afraid he would get an answer that would make him feel horrible.

He felt blood rushing away from his face as he became more and more concerned with negativity. He never wanted to leave Nathan's side but, what if he didn't feel the same way?

Nathan could tell Leo was struggling to say something. His eyes lost their twinkle and his smile disappeared. "What's wrong, sweetie?" Nathan asked.

Leo wanted to speak but, his mouth didn't want to move. "I... I wanted to ask you a question..." He sounded timid, shy, it was a different side of him than Nathan had seen before. "What are we...?"

Nathan sat up in the bed, the sheets falling down into his lap. He reached up with his right hand and caressed Leo's cheek. "Well. I'm a kangaroo, and you're a husky." He smiled a bit and got a little chuckle out of it before he continued. "And you're also my very sexy, amazing boyfriend, who I love." Nathan leaned in and kissed Leo on the lips.

Their eyes closed shut as they embarrassed into a small, yet passionate kiss.

During the kiss, Leo's mind exploded into happiness. That was the answer he wanted to hear. The answer he had been waiting for. The last bit of negativity he had faded away instantly.

The kiss lasted only a few second and as Leo's lips parted Nathan's he said, "I love you too, Nathan Meadows." He smiled. He stood up off the bed and looked at his new boyfriend. "Come on." He said, extending his paw out to help him out of the bed. "I have to go shower, and so do you." He winked at Nathan who grabbed his paw and swung his legs off the bed.

Nathan and Leo started to head over to the bathroom. Nathan was completely nude and Leo still had his gym shorts on. As they entered the kitchen Leo's cellphone rang. He could tell by the ring that it was Rebecca.

"Hang on." Leo said to Nate as he let go of his paw and walked over to the nightstand where his phone rested. He picked it up and said, "Hello?"

"Leo!" Rebecca shouted on the other side. "I'm so glad you answered. I have fantastic news!"

The words 'fantastic news' coming out of Rebecca's mouth and into Leo's ear was something he hadn't heard in a long time. His heart raced as he patiently waited to hear what it could be. He had been in a slump in his acting career for a few months; ever since his supporting role in the movie wrapped. He wasn't able to find a great acting job. He had been eating into his savings a bit, even with the commercial gigs. The lead movie role that he didn't get was going to help him out of his financial mess.

"Remember that movie they passed you up on just yesterday?" She continued. "Turns out, the guy they cast was just arrested for drug possession. And I'm not talking about just a little bit of stuff. Turns out the guy was running a meth lab. Like some real 'Breaking Bad' type stuff." Rebecca's voice sounded so vibrant and giddy. Even after another actor's career just ended. "So, the studio isn't going to be using him - obviously - and they want you to play the lead!"

Leo's heart just dropped and he felt like he was going to faint. He grabbed onto the nightstand to stabilize himself but, he bumped into the lamp which wobbled for a bit. Nathan noticed it and rushed over to help him sit down onto the bed.

"What's wrong?" He asked in a whisper. He didn't want to disturb the conversation and he was too far to hear that was happening.

"So..." Rebecca continued on without letting Leo interject. "The part is yours if you want it but, you would have to be at the studio in the next two hours to sign the contract. I will look over the contract beforehand and be there at the signing as well. I just need to know if you want it and then I'll send you the details."

"Yes. Yes! Absolutly!" Leo couldn't get the words out fast enough. His hands shook form the excitement. He was going to be the lead in a movie, and not an independent one or a B movie but, one that had some big names attached to it.

"Great! I'll see you in a few hours." She said and then hung up the phone.

Leo lowered his arm but, didn't let go of his phone. He had a thousand yard stare into the room as he processed what just happened. He heard Nathan speaking to him but, it sounded kind of muffled.

After a few second Leo turned and then could hear Nathan's voice more clearly. "What happened?" Nate asked. He knew it was something good based on Leo's voice from the call.

"I got it." His eyes darted back and forth and his voice shook slightly. He was in shock. "I got that part in the movie." He smiled. Lloked into Nate's eyes, and repeated himself. "I got that part in the movie!"

Nathan was a little confused. "What movie? The one they passed you up for?" He asked and Leo promptly shook his head in agreement. "Oh my god that's fantastic!" Nate reached in and hugged Leo tight and as he pulled out of the hug he kissed him.

Leo broke the kiss and stood up. He paced around slightly and started to sound frantic. "I have to get ready! I have to find what I'm going to wear! I have to get down to Paramount. I don't have a lot of time."

"Babe." Nate stood up and grabbed onto Leo's shoulders to help calm him down. "Go get in the shower and I will help you out in any way that I can."

"But... But, what about our shower?" Leo had a hint of disappointment in his voice.

"We can always do that later." Nate spoke in the most calming voice Leo had ever heard. It made Leo want to cry. Before Nate had supported Leo in everything he did. He helped him out and was there for him but, he was always there as a friend. Now, he was there as his boyfriend and it felt different. It made Leo feel more confident and safer.

"Okay." Leo said and then headed off into the shower. He stripped off his shorts and tossed them onto the bed as he stepped into the bathroom. He turned the water on and gave it a second or two to warm up before he stepped in. He quickly grabbed the shampoo bottle and squirted a rather large glob of soap in his hand and started to rub it on his arms and chest.

He felt like he was living in some kind of dream. His career was about to take off and he had the boy of his dreams. Leo was getting more and more excited and nervous about his meeting and his mind started to drift off a bit. It wasn't until he heard his apartment door shut that he realized he had spaced out. Then he realized that Nate must have left the apartment.

Leo finished rinsing off and turned off the water. He grabbed his towel and started to pat himself dry before he stepped out of the tub. He quickly realized that he had no idea what to wear. Should he look casual, professional, how professional is too professional. Actors don't wear suits to work unless the script and wardrobe call for it.

He stepped out into the kitchen where his sink and mirror were. Underneath the sink he had some of his bathroom supplies, like his toothpaste, towels, toilet paper, furdryer, and many other accessories. When Leo walked out into the open room he noticed that Nathan was gone. Leo's heart sank instantly but, then he realized he lived across the hall and probably needed a shower himself after their activities the night before.

Leo kept trying to think about what he had to wear as he dried himself off with the furdryer. He knew he had a wide range of clothes but, not a massive assortment. His tiny apartment didn't allow for that. His mind raced trying to think about what to wear that he started to forget how close on time he was getting.

Traffic was starting to get bad and he had a ways to go so Leo wasn't trying taking his time. Normally the studio wasn't too far away but, he still had to take into account the traffic, the amount of time he had to get ready, going through security. To something that was this important he knew that he would much rather be super early than a minute late. In the movie industry time was money, and being late was a big deal.

When Leo finished with the dryer he tossed it back underneath the sink and headed over to his closet. As he headed towards the doors he noticed that there was a set of clothes laid out for him on the counter. Nate picked out some clothes for him to wear. In the pile was a pair of khaki pants, dress shoes, belt, a light blue button up shirt, a plain white under shirt, some socks, and a navy colored tie.

Leo's heart fluttered a bit at the fact that Nate picked out some clothes for him to wear. He knew Leo would be stressed out about what to wear. It was something no one had done for him since he was just a little pup. It was cute and sweet and it reaffirmed Leo that Nate was really there for him.

As Leo got ready he started to wonder where Nate had gone to. He was sure he would have popped back in by then to wish him luck or something. It was a little bit odd but, his whole world was a rollercoaster right now; he didn't know what to think.

When Leo was nearly completely done getting ready, he checked himself in the mirror. He straightened up his tie, and fixed his blue hair. He started to second guess his shirt and tie though. He felt like with the blue in his fur that it would be overkill. Leo stopped and closed his eyes and took a deep breath in to calm down. He looked back up at himself in the mirror and grabbed his stuff and headed out the door.

Out in the hallway, Nathan stood outside his door in a pair of shorts, a tank top and sandals. He was showered and ready for the day. Nathan had a big smile on his face when Leo stepped out of his apartment.

"I see you saw the clothes I laid out." Nathan said to his boyfriend.

"Yes, I did." Leo leaned in and kissed Nate on the lips. "It's not too much blue is it?"

"Of course not! I think it emphasizes your amazing features." Nate started to walk down the hallway towards the stairs with Leo.

"Where are you off to?" Leo asked. He was confused as to why Nate was leaving.

"I'm driving you, my big movie star." He smiled and reached down and grabbed onto Leo's hand to hold it.

The two walked out of the building hand in hand.
