Note from author: For those of you who don't know what a Khajiit is; A Khajiit is basically a leopard and or tiger like furry. Khajiit's haven't quite mastered speaking English and they make it a bad habit to refer to themselves in the second person, for example; "Qa'dar likes sweet breads!" and or if they don't want you to know their name they will instead call themselves; "This one likes sweet breads!" Anyway just letting you know that the story written has been setup the way they would speak within the game Elder Scroll's IV: Oblivion. If you haven't played it then you don't know what you are missing!!! Lol!

"To Say Goodbye..."

A Story Inspired by Elder Scroll's IV: Oblivion

A female Khajiit name Helzi was busy working the crops on her land, preparing for the grand harvest that will fetch a good coin in the upcoming market festival in the nearby town. Every day she missed her mated and prayed every day and night to the clan mother that he would return safely home from his adventuring and looking for the grand fortune he promised to shower her with. She could do without the fortune and sparkling jewels he talked about, the kittens she conceived with him was fortune enough to make her happy. She only wanted her Dro'jinn to come back safely to her. Her kitten were off playing in the distance, pretending to be adventures like their father. Dro'djinn used to fill their heads with stories of adventure each night and every morning the next day they pretended to live out what he told to them the night before. She stopped plowing her garden to take a brief rest and looked off in the distance and longed to see Dro'jinn making his way over the hill and coming home to stay.

One day her prayers were answered...

She was outside cleaning a freshly killed deer she paid a hunter to kill, one freshly baked wild berry pie was the fee. As she finished gutting the carcass and was getting ready to dice up the meat, Dro'jinn was making his way over the grassy hill and continued walking toward his sorely missed home. Helzi looked up and saw him off in the distance. She dropped what she was doing and ran full speed to him and jumped into his arms and hugged the life out of him. He retuned her hug, but for some reason he was very sad to see her.

"Dro'jiin my mate, why do you look so sad at Helzi?" she asked him.

"Dro'jinn missed his mate Helzi...he is very sorry he had ever left her!" He answered.

"Hezi is blessed by the gods!...For her Dro'jinn is finally home!" She joyfully cried and walked with him back to their home.

The kittens were so overjoyed that their father was back home and clinged themselves to him and refused to release the father they loved and missed so much. He didn't mind them clinging to him, for it was something he missed the most during his long travels. He then embraced each one and all the while he looked very sad as hug them each.

"Dro'jiin misses his kittens so much...his heart hurt every day and night!" He tearfully said to each one.

"Will father stay home this time?" his daughter asked him.

A tear of blood fell from his eye as he looked into her hopeful and innocent filled eyes.

"Father you are injured!" She cried to him and using her dress she tried to stop the bleeding.

"Your father is fine daughter...But he is grateful for your concern." He reassured her.

Helzi looked at him and just now just noticed that he was very pale around the nose and eyes.

"Dro'jinn you look sick and weak!...You should rest and Helzi will fix him a good meal and he will feel better in no time!" she said to him and taking his hand she escorted him to his old chair and wrapped a warm blanket around him. She then ordered the kittens to go outside and pick the freshest of vegetables and herbs they could find from the garden and to make haste. The kittens left and did just as they were told without question. A little bit later on Helzi did as she promised and made a wonderfully cooked stew meal of vegetables, herbs and meat from the deer she just butchered. She gave out each of the kitten a bowl and spoon and filled each with the wonderful smelling stew.

"Thank the clan mother my young ones, for she has brought your father back home to you!" She told them and each kitten bowed their head in prayer and thanked the clan mother.

"May we eat now mother and father?" They politely asked after they finished their prayers and were given the blessing to go ahead.

Helzi took another bowl and filled it full with the stew and gave it to Dro'jinn. He held the bowl in hands and looked both longingly and sadly at it.

"Dro'jinn must eat or he won't feel better!" She told him.

"Please Helzi ...let Dro'jinn look at it a moment longer...he has missed it so!" He sadly requested her.

Dro'jinn is acting very strange she thought but then she reassured herself that it has been almost three years since he first left and he must be in so much shock to finely be back home. So she indulged his request and left him alone to look at his food instead of eating it. After she herself finished a bowl of her tasty stew, she proceeded to collect each empty bowl from the kittens and took them outside to wash in the nearby creek.

Dro'jinn was still sitting there in his chair, looking at his food and never took a bite.

"You gods are so cruel to Dro'jinn!" He quietly said out loud to himself as he looked sadly at the bowl of stew he held in his hands.

"Dro'jinn is so hungry...but he cannot eat the food he is given!" He continued and started to cry.

"Why dose father cry?" His son asked him and wrapped his arms around his father's neck to comfort him.

"Your father is very hungry son...very, very hungry...but he cannot eat his food." He replied to his son and tried desperately to stop crying.

"Father is being silly!...Here...Jro'loe will feed his father!" His son said and took the bowl from his fathers hands, then taking a spoon full of stew he held it too his fathers mouth and said.

"Eat father! Jro'loe will not let his father go hungry!"

Dro'jinn smiled at his son and opened his mouth and allowed his son to feed him the stew till the bowl was empty.

"Father's tummy happy now?" His son then asked.

"You are too kind to your father!...He is very lucky to have such a kind son!" Dro'jinn said lovingly to his boy and patted him on the head and sent him to go outside and play with his siblings.

"Dro'jinn can feel the food inside him...but the hunger doesn't stop...it is still there...he is still very, very hungry..." He quietly said to himself as he watched his son run outside the door.

I was now dark outside and it was getting very late. Dro'jinn was in his kitten's bedroom and he was making sure that they were each settled comfortably in place. After tucking his kittens into their bed, he told them an adventure story that they have been waiting so long to hear again and then they all went fast to sleep. He then walked into his own bedroom and saw his mate waiting for him in the bed.

"Helzi has been waiting so long for this!" She lovingly said to him and reached out for him to take her hand. Tears of blood once again started to fall from his eyes and he quickly turned his head so that she would not see his tears.

"Dro'jinn...what is wrong!" said asked him with a very concerned tone.

"Dro'jinn misses this the most Helzi!...He misses sharing his bed with his mate...but now he can no longer!" He tearfully replied to here.

She quickly got up from the bed and ran over to him, but he raised his hand to stop her and said.

"Please do not come any further Helzi!...Dro'jinn doesn't want you to see!"

She ignored his request and gently took hold of his shoulder, she turned him around and gasped when she saw his face. Fresh blood was oozing out his eyes like tears and he only replied.

"Dro'jinn is cursed Helzi...he cannot be here for much longer...he only came back to..." He looked into her eyes and started to sob and then continued.

"To say goodbye!"

"What in the name of Anazzi has happened to you!" She demanded.

He was about to replied but then outside came the sound of bandit and raiders. They circled the house, destroyed the crops and ran off the livestock. The leader of the group banged on the door and demanded it be opened or else he would burn the house down. The kitten started crying and screaming in fear from their bedroom. Dro'jinn quickly ordered his mate to run to the kittens and stay with them no matter what. When she was safely with them he proceeded to the door and was about to open it.

"Dro'jinn they will kill you!" She yelled out to him as she gather the kittens around her. He stopped and slowly turned and looked back to her and said,

"Dro'jinn cannot die Helzi...he is already dead!"

And opened the door.

The leader was a Nord and he rudely walked into the house, push Dro'jinn back and laughed.

"Looks like we got some fresh slaves for market!" He boasted as two of his men walked in.

"You will not be taking Dro'jinn or his family!" Dro'jinn angrily threaten him.

The Nord walked up to Dro'jinn and said.

"Looks like we're going to have to brake this one first!" A raised his hand to strike Dro'jinn but he grabbed it in mid flight and held it firmly in place and slowly started to crush the bones in his arm.

"By the gods!" The Nord screamed and fell to his knees before Dro'jinn.

"What are you!" He demanded as he looked up at Dro'jinn with terror filled eyes .

"This one is your death!" Dro'jinn said and then his already large fangs increased in size and his eyes turned bright red.

"VAMPIRE!" One of the bandits yelled and tried to make a hasty retreat out the door, but Dro'jinn instantly appeared outside the door as the bandit exited and grabbed him by the throat, crushed it and he slumped dead in Dro'jinn hand. Dro'jinn then tossed the body of the dead bandit at the other one still standing and the body hit him with such force that he snapped his back as he collided into the wall and then fell screaming to ground.

"My legs!...I can't feel my legs!" The bandit screamed as Dro'jinn walked up to him and put his foot upon his neck and slowly crushed it under his foot.

Dro'jinn then slowly turned and walked up to the bandit leader, who was on his knees begging and pleading for his life. Dro'jinn with one hand grabbed the Nord by the throat and brought him face to face with himself.

"Mercy!" The Nord pleaded

"Sure...Dro'jinn will show you mercy... the same mercy you were going to show him and his family!" And then opened his mouth and sank his fangs into the bandit leader throat and drained him dry of his life's blood.

After draining the Bandit leader he tossed his lifeless body to the floor.

"Stay away from us!" Helzi yelled at Dro'jinn in a terror filled voice as he started to walked back to her.

"Dro'jinn will not hurt you Helzi !...He loves you so much!...Please do not fear him!" he pleaded and held out his hand to her.

"You are no longer my Dro'jinn!...You are a monster!" She tearfully screamed at him.

He first lowered his hand and then his head and in sad voice said,

"Dro'jinn will do as you ask him...he will leave and never return..." And then started to leave when one of his kittens broke free of his mothers grasp, she yelled for him to come back but he ignored her and ran to his father yelling;

"No father you cannot leave us!" And wrapped his arms tightly around his fathers leg.

"We do not care if you are a umpier!...We miss you!...Do not leave us again please!" His son pleaded and started crying. Dro'jinn reached down and picked up his son and lovingly held him in his arms and wiped away his tears.

"Your father is a Vampire son...not umpier." He corrected him and his son then wrapped his arms around his neck and said.

"You are father!...That is all that matters to Jro'loe!" His son replied.

Just then all his kittens rush over to him and clinged themselves onto him.

He was so touched by this, his fangs and eyes returned to normal and he just stood there and allowed their love to warm his unbeating heart.

Helzi was still standing off from him and was still frightened of him.

"Return to your mother young one...she needs you now more then father." He told them and they were about to question his order when he quickly interjected.

"Do as father asks...do this for him and he will forever be grateful." Just then they did as he told them and returned to their mother. He looked back at her and lovingly and said.

"Dro'jinn became this monster only because he had no choice!...He wanted to..." He paused in mid sentence for a second and sadly continued;

"He wanted to say goodbye..."

Dro'jinn then explained that when he was off adventuring, he was critically injured and that the wound got seriously infected. The healers told him there was nothing they could do for him and that he will die in three to five days. With the little time he had left he tried desperately to find a way to live just a little bit longer to see his mate and kittens again. Within the same day he learned the location of a vampire's lair and sought it out. He offered all the wealth he had collected and made a deal with the vampire. The vampire agreed and turned Dro'jinn. Within three days he became a vampire himself and the infected wound that would have killed him, instantly healed. He then told her it was the only way for him to see her one last time. Now that he has fulfilled the promise he made to himself he had one last request to ask of her.

"Dro'jinn only asks that you lye down beside him this night one last time..." And then reached down to dead bandit leaders corpse and removed the sheathed dagger from his person and held it out to Helzi and continued,

"And when the sun rises you take this dagger and end Dro'jinn's curse as he lies sleeping...he will not feel it...do this for your Dro'jinn."

She then slowly walked up to him, took the dagger and dropped it on the floor.

"Helzi cannot!...Helzi will not!...Helzi was wrong about this monster that stands before her!" And she wrapped her arms around him and held him.

"Helzi was scared and foolish at first...but now she see's the mate she had married is still inside the body of this monster!"

Dro'jinn was so touched that he wrapped his arms around her and lovingly hug her.

"Stay with us Dro'jinn!...Don't ever leave us again!" she pleaded.

Dro'jinn agreed and stayed with his family despite his vampirism. He learned to cope with the blood of animals in the wild and what he killed for blood he returned with himself to feed his family.

It is said that when the day came when all his kittens grew into adulthood and left to start there own lives. His mate asked that she join him in his eternal undeath...no one knows for sure if he granted her request or not...but what is known...

He had original intended to sell his soul for one simple request and that request was...

To Say Goodbye
