#1 of What Good Am I?

So, after a period of writer's block, managing to get stories into anthologies and getting married recently, I'm back to writing something just for SF.

This is chapter one of a short serial featuring the characters Friedrich Van Holling and Diego Redfield who were created by my husband ColinLeighton for his novel Identity (if you haven't checked it out already, what are you waiting for?).

This story also acts as an kind of sequel to Nighthawks by ColinLeighton https://www.sofurry.com/view/1158850 which details how Friedrich and Diego became a couple, this takes place roughly a month later.

I hope you enjoy...

What Good Am I?

By Billy Leigh

Starring:

Friedrich Van Holling, a 34 year old German Shepherd. Diego Redfield, a 29 year old Wolfdog.

Home, at last.

Friedrich couldn't help but thump his tail against the car seat as he was driven through the winding streets of Holland Canyon in the direction of his home. He began listing the things he would do in his paw as soon as he got back; shower, clean change of clothes, dinner with Diego and then get ready for an early night, oh and maybe some fun with Diego if we're not too tired. Friedrich resisted the urge to grin. His daughter was staying at his PA's house for the night and he had missed the sexy, athletic body of his mate. He was home a few days earlier than expected, which he hoped would please Diego.

Working as a Congressman sometimes took Friedrich away from his hometown of San Amador on the California coast for extended periods of time. San Amador lay within his district and he liked to spend as much time as he could in his town, not just because it was a pleasant location with his family nearby, but as someone who prided himself as a canine of the people, he liked to show his face to everyone he represented. Friedrich was an unconventional politician for many reasons; the word politician often conjures up an image of a dour, middle aged canine or feline in a grey suit. Friedrich was a tall, muscular black and tan Alsatian who had served in the marines, had the looks of a movie star and was the youngest person serving in the house. An openly gay Republican (although often a rebel in his party) his election had raised plenty of eyebrows but soon gained support from across the spectrum, both within his district and elsewhere. Friedrich didn't care much for the publicity that came with his job, and his time spent in DC made him long to come home. Ah well, Diego will be waiting for me Friedrich thought to himself.

Friedrich's tail wagged as the car pulled into his driveway and the pretty Victorian house he called home appeared. His red Dodge Challenger was parked next to Diego's green Mercedes coupe. Friedrich noticed the curtains of the house were drawn, perhaps Diego hadn't got up yet? The car pulled up to the front door and the Rottweiler behind the wheel jumped out to open the door for Friedrich and retrieve his case from the trunk. "Thank you Lucas, I can take it from here," Friedrich said as he took his case and walked up to the front door as his driver climbed back into the car. Friedrich made his way inside, walked around and sniffed at the air. The house had not been cleaned in some time, dust coated many of the surfaces and dirty dishes had been left out in the kitchen. Several years of military training had given Friedrich a perceptive personality, and he sensed something wasn't quite right in the house, but he couldn't put his paw on exactly what. "Diego?" He called. "I'm home, where are you?" There was no response. Friedrich frowned, put his case down and made his way upstairs.

Cautiously, Friedrich eased the bedroom door open and glanced inside. The heavy scent of musk and damp fur hit his nostrils, suggesting that his mate was somewhere nearby. There were a couple of wifebeaters, some jeans with the legs inside out and a pair of discarded briefs laying on the floor. The bed was a tangled pile of sheets with two hind-paws, a tail and the unmistakable sign of Diego's perky and underwear clad ass showing through a gap in the untidy covers. Friedrich sat on the edge of the bed and glanced down at his boyfriend's behind; he couldn't deny it looked sexy in the underwear, a pair of form fitting blue Calvin Klein briefs which he recognised as a pair of his, but he was unsure as to whether to feel aroused at the sight or annoyed that Diego had allowed the house to get into such a state.

Being an Alsatian, Friedrich had a natural disposition to sniff at things. He leant down and sniffed around Diego's armpits, before pressing his snoot into the fabric of the briefs until his nose was touching the outline of the Wolfdog's stretched out tail hole and drank the scent. Ever since their first night together, Friedrich and Diego had taken to sniffing each other's tail holes in the same way ancient generations of canines had done to say hello. The rich, masculine scent of Diego's tail hole was enough to stiffen Friederich's cock, but the musky scent of the briefs suggested they were not a fresh pair that had been put on that morning. "Okay bud, when did you last change your undies, or mine I should say?" Diego stirred and groaned. "Uh, like three days ago," he responded in a hoarse voice, the tell-tale sign of the aftermath of a night of hard drinking. Friedrich sighed. "Okay, I admit I find it hot when you wear my underwear, but please, please wash them once in a while." "Yeah, I ran out of clean undies, then I used all yours up," Diego responded, shielding his face with his paw. Friedrich rolled his eyes as he traced his paw along the waistband of the briefs before leaning down to sniff at the Wolfdog's hole again. Despite the mess in their room, Diego's scent was turning him on. If he didn't have a day meeting the public in his district or attending a speaking engagement, Friedrich was tempted to wear the musky underwear himself before putting them to be washed. He also wanted to tell Diego to jump in the shower that instant and freshen up, not because he wanted to give a lecture on personal hygiene, but because the scent had given him the sudden urge to wrestle with the Wolfdog to determine who would get to mount who that night.

Friedrich grinned, hooked his paws over the briefs and slid them down Diego's hind-paws. "Okay Wolfdog, shower time for you. I think you know what I want," Friedrich growled playfully into Diego's ear. "Uh, can we like take a rain check for now, I feel like my head is gonna explode," came the response from under the covers. Friedrich paused, knowing that waiting for his boyfriend to get over his hangover was probably a good idea. He straightened up, adjusted the bulge in his pants and turned to examine the state of the room. Being a former marine, Friedrich was apt at noticing significant details in any setting, which was why he suddenly found himself drawn to a small, clear bag sitting on the bedside table. The bag was filled with a white powder.

Could it really be?

Friedrich knew his boyfriend had been a drug user, Diego had admitted to that on their first night together, but Friedrich had always thought Diego had kicked the habit. He picked up the bag and held it in his paw. There was no mistaking the contents. Behind Friedrich, Diego stirred and rolled over. His grogginess instantly vanished as he saw what Friedrich had discovered and he leapt to his hind-paws. "Shit," he gasped. Friedrich looked down at Diego as a mixture of emotions pounded in his head and stomach; anger (how could Diego do such a thing in his house, where Melanie also lived), disappointment and sadness. "Freddy, please, I didn't mean..." Diego trailed off, his voice floundered helplessly. "Didn't mean to do what?" Friedrich replied as anger beat out all the other emotions. "Mean to do drugs in my house, where my cub is also around. I thought you were off this stuff Diego?" "I was," Diego replied, splaying his ears. "I haven't taken any from that stash though." "Diego if you want to reform you have to make an effort," Friedrich growled. "I wanted a boyfriend, not another father," Diego responded indignantly. The Wolfdog pulled the underwear back on and retrieved his jeans from the floor. "Where are you going?" Friedrich demanded as Diego pulled out a suitcase from the wardrobe. "I don't know," Diego snapped as he began throwing clothes into it before tugging on a shirt. Friedrich opened his muzzle but Diego was already stumbling out of the room.

...

Diego hurried down the stairs with his case, not sure exactly why he was running away but his mind churned with fear, guilt and a need to escape. He was sure Friedrich was calling his name and coming down the stairs after him, but that made the Wolfdog move even faster despite his hungover state. He swiped his car keys and bolted out of the front door. Diego threw his suitcase into his car and leapt into the driver's seat. With the tires squealing, he sped down the driveway and out on the street, gripping the steering wheel tightly as he cursed at himself for how stupid he had been. But a feeling of resentment crept into his mind. Friedrich had gone off, taken Melanie away and expected him to just sit there until he came back. Diego glanced down and saw his phone on the car dashboard was buzzing and displaying Friedrich's name. Diego growled, cancelled the call and turned back to the road. "Fuck," he cursed as he served to avoid another car. Diego pulled up at the side of the road and sat panting, wanting to turn around and head back home, but wondering if Friedrich would simply kick him out. The Alsatian was probably bundling all of his possessions together to throw out the window, but Diego forced the thought from his head. He knew Friedrich was not like that. C'mon, be rational dude he told himself. Friedrich would certainly still be mad and Diego didn't want to face that just yet. Better let the air clear and then head back Diego decided. He needed to be calm and explain why he did what he did for Friedrich to understand.

Diego closed his eyes and thought back over the past few days, and over everything that had led to him lapsing back into drugs.

"Now, be good while I'm away," Friedrich said as heaved his suitcase into the kitchen. "I've packed a few suits, a couple of casual shirts and a pair of jeans. I left some smart shirts at the apartment." Friedrich kept a small apartment near The Capitol in DC where he stayed when on political business. "You're way more organised than me when I go somewhere," Diego chuckled. "Did you pack a book?" "Yup. Esmerelda of The Rock, by Geoffrey Lawrence," "Who?" "The only one of two novels written by a nineteen twenties British poet, which is a shame since I'm liking it so far," Friedrich explained. "What's it about, a girl who sits on a rock all day?" Diego teased. "Yes, quite," Friedrich replied dryly. "But you'd like it, as it's a historical novel. It's about a girl who comes from a well to do family in Cornwall during the Napoleonic Wars, her fiancé serves as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy who goes off to fight. She does indeed take to sitting on a rock awaiting his return, but soon drifts into depression and gets up to mischief in the town, including crime, to pass the time. He finally returns and finds out about what she's been doing." "And what does he do then?" Diego asked, suddenly captivated by his boyfriend's explanation. "I haven't got that far," Friedrich replied. He opened his muzzle to say more, but was interrupted by the sound of a car pulling up the driveway. "Oh, that would be my ride to the airport." He sighed. The Alsatian turned back to his boyfriend with a regretful glance. "I love you Diego," he whispered into the Wolfdog's ear, before wrapping his arms around Diego and drawing him into a tight hug. Diego gazed into Friedrich's green eyes and knew with a heavy heart that he was going to miss his mate. "Look after yourself, and Melanie," Friedrich said, nuzzling into Diego before kissing his muzzle. Diego responded with a bittersweet smile before kissing Friedrich back, allowing his tongue to slip gently into the Alsatian's muzzle and using it to caress and explore the surface of Friedrich's mouth. "Ew!" The pair sprung apart and turned to see Friedrich's ten year old cub looking at them with her paws in her hips. "Dad and Daddy Diego, do you have to do that in the kitchen?" Friedrich and Diego laughed before hugging each other again. Friedrich then leant down to talk to Melanie. "Now, I know you'll be on your best behaviour for Diego," "Of course I will Dad," Melanie replied. Friedrich smiled and ruffled the fur in-between her ears. Diego liked the way that Friedrich often spoke to Melanie as if she were an adult, while he allowed her to get away with staying up past her bedtime, eating candy and watching movies at night while Friedrich was away. Melanie turned and shot a knowing glance at Diego. "I love being with Daddy Diego, he's always so much fun." Diego responded with an innocent grin.

The front door opened and a Rottweiler in a dark suit and sunglasses walked into the kitchen. "Mr Van Holling, the car is ready when you are," he explained. Friedrich nodded. "I'll be right outside," he replied curtly. He bent down and hugged his daughter. "I'll be back soon, I promise," "Family hug!" Diego announced, before wrapping his arms around Friedrich and Melanie who giggled with delight. Friedrich rolled his eyes, smiled and (not caring his bodyguard/driver was in the room) gave Diego another kiss on the muzzle. "Have a safe flight babe," Diego whispered. "I'll give you both a call when I get there," Friedrich replied, giving Diego a quick nuzzle before picking up his suitcase and following the Rottweiler out of the front door.

Diego stood at the window and watched as Friedrich was led to a waiting Lexus limousine. He knew that Friedrich preferred to drive himself around in his Dodge Challenger and didn't care for the executive side of things. I want to be a representative who actually goes out in search of the vox populi he had once explained. Diego watched with a pang of sadness as his tall, muscular boyfriend climbed into the back of the waiting car. Friedrich paused and waved in the direction of the window before the door was closed behind him. Melanie sighed as the Lexus pulled off down the driveway. Diego closed his eyes for a moment, comprehending four days without his boyfriend, before opening them again and fixing Melanie a reassuring smile. "Hey, wanna watch a movie later?" "Sure," Melanie replied, wagging her tail. "Let's watch The Sound of Music." "Yeah, that sounds great," Diego replied, his smile shrinking by a couple of fangs (he and Melanie had watched that movie five times already to the point where Diego was hearing the songs in his sleep). "And we could make some cookies to go with it." "I like it when it's just you in the house, you always want to do fun things," the Alsatian cub replied as she skipped into the kitchen. Diego couldn't help but smile as the concerns of separation anxiety were replaced by a warm feeling of acceptance. He had never imagined himself becoming a parent prior to meeting Friedrich, partly out of fear of subjecting a cub to the same upbringing he had experienced; shouting, cursing, arguing from both parents. But since moving into the Alsatian's home in San Amador he had become accustomed to looking after Melanie, not only because she was impeccably behaved and mature for a cub of her age, but he felt happy to have company in the house that reminded him of Friedrich.

Diego could hear clattering in the kitchen as Melanie got the various utensils out to make the cookies. He was about to go and help when his cellphone buzzed in his jeans pocket. Diego glanced down to see Melody Sims on the caller ID. "I have the chocolate chips!" Melanie called excitedly from the kitchen. "Not now, there's a time and a place," Diego muttered at his phone as he cancelled the call. Diego had told Friedrich that he had been an addict, but as of yet hadn't volunteered the fact his main dealer was someone who worked at the San Fernando police headquarters who supplied him with confiscated drugs. "Coming!" He called as he walked into the kitchen. Melanie was already pouring a bag of chocolate chips into cups while reading the measurements out. "It seems like you've got this covered," Diego observed. He couldn't help but wag his tail as he watched Melanie skip happily around the kitchen while preparing the various ingredients. Although Melanie had never met her mother, it was clear her upbringing had been one of love and kindness, something Diego had never experienced. But Diego didn't feel bitter, if anything Melanie's joyful personality was refreshing and it soothed the hollow feeling of not having Friedrich nearby. "Daddy Diego, could you reach the whisk for me please?" Melanie asked. "Yes chef," Diego replied. He whisked the ingredients together while Melanie turned the oven on. "We make a great team," he observed, wagging his tail.

Soon enough the cookies were in the oven and Diego was being made to sing along to _My Favourite Things_for the sixth time. "Come on Daddy Diego, I can't hear you!" Melanie chorused. Diego rolled his eyes but smiled and sang louder.

When I'm feeling sad I simply remember my favourite things And then I don't feel so bad.

Diego felt his phone vibrate again, and he pulled it out expected to see Friedrich's number. His heart sank when he saw Melody Sims' name again. Sighing, he cancelled the call and sat back to concentrate on the movie. "Why do you look sad?" Melanie asked, taking hold of Diego's paw. "Hey, I'm not sad. I'm having fun, I love watching movies with you," Diego smiled. Melanie's tail wagged, beating against the couch as she leant against Diego. As the movie played Diego felt another rush of happiness that Melanie had accepted him as a second father, but it was more than happiness, it was a mixture of emotions churning within him; relief, joy, regret that his childhood had been different. "Daddy Diego, you are sad, you have tears in your eyes," Melanie said. "Oh, this part of the movie makes me sad," Diego replied hurriedly. "The part where Gretl drops a tomato?" Melanie asked with a frown. "Yeah, that poor tomato," "You're silly Daddy Diego," Melanie giggled. "I think the word you're looking for is awesome, but I also accept cool or rad," Diego grinned. "Nah, you're silly, but I love you. Oh I love this part!" Diego smiled contently as Melanie cuddled up to him, although the fact Friedrich hadn't been in contact was weird. Usually the Alsatian would call as soon as he arrived somewhere. Diego shook the worry from his head and concentrated on the movie. His boyfriend was probably busy in a meeting.

The movie came to an end and Melanie left to retrieve the cookies. Diego glanced at his phone again and saw a message from Melody. Yo Wolfdog, wanna hang out soon. Been a while since I last saw you. I've been trying to call. Diego glanced around the make sure Melanie wasn't nearby for typing a message back. Not now, I'm babysitting. His phone buzzed again a moment later. Van Holling's kid? I should bring Aly and we can all hang out. Diego wasn't sure what to say. It would be nice for Melanie to have someone close to her own age to play with, but bringing Melody to Friedrich's home was risky. Although Melody was a friend of Diego's, she was synonymous with a reckless lifestyle he had been trying to get away from. Diego weighed his phone in his paw, but put it back into his pocket as Melanie returned with the cookies on a plate. "They got a little burnt," she sighed. "Hey, they look rad," Diego replied as he took one.

Once Melanie had finished the cookies, Diego decided he probably had to do the responsible thing and tell the cub it was time for bed. "Thanks for letting me stay up late," Melanie smiled as she climbed into bed. "Do you think Dad will call us soon?" "I hope he does," Diego replied as he scratched his muzzle. He fixed Melanie a smile and turned off her light. "Sleep well Melanie." Diego gently closed the Alsatian cub's door and made his way to his and Friedrich's room. Their room was located at the back of the house and overlooked the yard. The curtains hadn't been closed yet, and Diego glanced over the garden, the lights of San Amador below and the dark purple expanse of the sea and sky beyond. Diego had often gazed out at the view with his arm over Friedrich's shoulder, but at that moment the room felt empty. Diego tugged his hoodie off and glanced at his reflection in the mirror. He was wearing a tight black wifebeater that emphasised his toned chest. Diego was used to attracting attention from guys and girls; his striking half-Wolf, half-Alsatian features and muscular physique gave him the look of the leading actor in an action movie. Diego was sometimes amazed but thankful he had retained his good looks and athletic body after years of living on ready meals and hard drinking before moving in with Friedrich. He tensed his arms and chest, causing the material of the wifebeater to strain as his muscles rippled and flexed.

Friedrich often liked to do some sits ups and push ups in his underwear before bed. Diego decided he would copy that tradition. He tugged off his wifebeater and jeans until he was standing in nothing but a pair of silky light blue Wolf & Coyote briefs. As well as a love of muscle cars, rock music, fine wine and beer, Friedrich and Diego both had a thing for sexy underwear. Diego in particular had a whole drawer full of designer briefs, jocks, skimpy swimwear, and he and Friedrich had taken to buying each other underwear as gifts. Wolf & Coyote were a new men's underwear brand headquartered in San Amador with a particular focus on gay canines. Diego had found this particular blue pair on the bed next to a box of beer on the day he had moved into Friedrich's house with a note saying Welcome Home! Diego thumbed the waistband and smiled as he thought back to that day, before dropping to the floor for one armed push ups.

Diego had just reached push up number thirty when his laptop began emitting the tone to indicate an incoming Skype call. He jumped up, pulled his laptop over to the bed and pressed the accept button. Friedrich's handsome face filled the screen. "Hey stud," he grinned apologetically. "Hey, what's up in DC?" Diego asked, aware that he was only clad in his briefs which were sticking slightly to his rump and crotch due to the sweat he had worked up. "Sorry I was late contacting," Friedrich splayed his ears. "I got caught up in a very long and tedious meeting and I've only just made it back to my apartment. All I wanted was to leave and check in with you and Melanie." "She went to sleep, after watching a movie," Diego explained. The Alsatian smiled. "It makes me glad to see you two have bonded so well, I trust she got to bed on time?" "Uh yeah, she did," Diego replied, casually glancing at the bedside clock which stated it was 12.30. Friedrich raised an eye-brow. "Diego, I love you but you are terrible at lying," the Alsatian teased. "Hey," Diego interrupted. "Well, if I was at home I'd wrestle you to the ground and give you a good fucking as punishment, but seeing as I'm not there I'll have to devise something else," Friedrich continued. Diego knew Friedrich was trying to cheer him up and he couldn't help but feel his cock starting to leak and protrude from its sheath. "It seems someone is pleased to see me," Friedrich grinned, seeing the rounded and defined bulge in Diego's briefs. "Why not start rubbing that bulge for me?" Diego was usually an alpha, but at times he was happy to let Friedrich have his way with him. The Wolfdog couldn't help but grin and thump his tail as he obeyed and stroked his bulge for Friedrich to watch. "Atta boy," Friedrich teased. "Keep rubbing." Diego rubbed and teased his cock, several inches had now emerged and he rubbed the tip with his thumb through the silky material of the briefs.

Diego laid back and panted as he rubbing. His cock was almost poking out of the waistband and a damp spot had already appeared in the fabric. "The question is," Diego groaned. "Why aren't you jerking yourself off too?" Friedrich grinned as he unbuttoned his shirt and slipped out of his suit. Diego noticed with delight that his mate was wearing the same white Armani briefs that he had worn on their first night together. "Keep stroking that dick," Friedrich commanded. The tip of Diego's cock was now poking free of his underwear. He slid them down his legs a little and began jerking at his thick shaft. His knot was swelling. Friedrich watched and grunted as he fondled the sizable package in his own briefs. Diego fixed his gaze on Friedrich's bulge, which was causing the Alsatian's underwear to strain, and thought about the goods it contained. Diego could feel his tongue hanging out of his mouth, but he didn't care how silly it looked, he felt pent up and longed to be up close to Friedrich's bulge; to grope it, sniff the damp spot which would have inevitably appeared, lick his boyfriend's shaft through the fabric before sliding them down, placing Friedrich's cock until his mouth until and sucking it until he got a muzzle full of Alsatian spunk. The thought sent Diego over the edge. "Fuck!" he groaned as warm cum splattered over his chest and hit him in the face. "Good boy," Friedrich growled as Diego lay back panting. "Now it's my turn." Diego summoned the strength to lift his head and watch as Friedrich slipped his cock and balls out of the side of his briefs rather than tug them down. Diego was never ceased to be amazed at how large Friedrich's balls were, and how his tight-fitting underwear could even contain them. Friedrich clamped a paw around his cock and began jerking. The Alsatian closed his eyes as he stimulated himself, before baring his fangs as he neared his climax. The Alsatian tipped back his head and let out a howl as his cock erupted with cum, much of it splashing over the laptop and narrowly missing the webcam. In their respective bedrooms, the pair lay back and panted in the afterglow.

Diego eventually heard the sound of his boyfriend sitting up. "Wooo," Friedrich breathed. "Damn, that was a lot. Just a shame I wasted it on myself and not in my boyfriend." "Hey, watch it dude, I'm gonna win the wrestling match when you get home and give your ass a pounding." Diego replied. Friedrich was about to reply when his phone rang. Diego cocked an ear as he recognised the ring tone as belonging to Friedrich's work cellphone. "Friedrich Van Holling," the Alsatian said as he answered. Diego leaned forwards until his snoot was almost pressed against the screen as Friedrich listened to whoever was talking to him. He was about to chuckle at the fact part of Friedrich's chest was matted with cum and he was in his sexy underwear while discussing official business, but something in his boyfriend's expression made him stop. Diego felt an awful feeling in the pit of his stomach as Friedrich's ears drooped. "Very well, I understand," Friedrich said curtly before hanging up. "What is it babe?" Diego asked. "An important vote is due to come up regarding sanctioning Uganda over human rights abuses, but the vote is being dragged out due to various lobby groups on either side." Friedrich sighed and glanced down. "I'm going to be here longer than four days." "When are you coming home?" "I don't know yet, it could be weeks given all the amendments and debates that will inevitably happen."

Both canines sat in silence as they pondered the situation over. "I guess I should get a shower and clean up," Friedrich eventually said. "Yeah, I wanna do the same," Diego replied. "You should probably sleep before it all starts tomorrow." Friedrich nodded but the melancholic gaze in the Alsatian's eyes remained. "Good night Diego, I love you," "I love you too Freddy." Diego replied. In a rare moment in his life, Diego felt like crying, but he blinked the tears away. Friedrich tried to fix him a reassuring smile from the other side of the camera before he blew Diego a kiss and the image died. Diego pulled his briefs back on and made his way to the bathroom. He felt too tired to hop into the shower or bathtub, so he cleaned himself at the sink before brushing his teeth and climbing back into bed. It felt cold and empty without Friedrich lying next to him. Diego turned over under the covers, but couldn't find a comfortable position to sleep in. "God dammit," he cursed after several minutes of tossing and turning. Diego stood, walked to the bathroom and fixed himself a glass of water. As he reached down to rearrange the rear part of his briefs that had ridden up his butt, he considered going downstairs to retrieve a beer from the fridge. "No, bad move," he told himself. Instead, Diego walked back out to the bedroom and opened the wardrobe. He knew Friedrich had been keeping some of his vinyl's in there whilst he was rearranging the furniture in the front room. Diego bent down and flipped through the various artists, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Yes, Duran Duran, Alice Cooper. There was also some classical records; Mozart and Bach. Diego wanted something that would distract him from the hollow feeling of Friedrich's absence, but wouldn't wake Melanie up.

After a minute of browsing, Diego picked out a record he had never heard of before, hoping that it wouldn't turn out to be a loud or obnoxious one, but Friedrich always had refined taste so he trusted it to be something good. The title seemed intriguing; The Weakness in Me. As Diego carried the disc to the player he heard his phone vibrate on the bedside table. A feeling of joy filled Diego as picked it up, expecting to see a message from Diego, but that was quickly punctured as he saw Melody's name again. "Good grief," Diego muttered as he threw his phone back down. He placed the disc on the player and moved the needle into position. A mellow tune began to fill the room.

I'm not the sort of person who falls In and quickly out of love But to you I gave my affection Right from the start

I have a lover who loves me: How could I break such a heart? Yet still you gained my attention

Why do you come here When you know I've got troubles enough? Why do you call me When you know I can't answer the phone?

Diego walked over to the gabled window and threw it wide open. A cool breeze blew in, ruffling the curtains and touching against his bare chest. He glanced over the back yard, the city lights and to the sea that lay beyond. "Hurry home to me, please," he whispered as his voice was carried away by the wind.
