Naraku said in a calm, cool voice. "I....arg....I....n-no! L-let go....ack!" Rio whimpered. Naraku then formed a fist and performed a heavy haymaker to Rio and landed it right on Rio's face causing him to be sent flying at insane speeds while flipping around in the air and bouncing off the ground; as if to throw a rock and skip it. Rio was suffering at this point, as he was about out of Quintessence and was all out of tricks. However, Naraku then rushed past him and waited for Rio to land right in front of him before he kicked Rio high into the air and used all his might to jump up after him. When Naraku did just that, he left behind a massive creator in the snowy ground and rose higher and higher into the air. He was now right above Rio and still raising. Naraku smiled, as he knew this would finish this battle for good. "Dies ist das Ende fur Sie!" Naraku shouted. "n-no p-p-please..." Rio whispered. But it was too late. Naraku landed an extremely powerful axe kick and sent Rio hurling toward the ground with so much force that it actually caused Rio to catch on fire and explode on impact. The explosion was so enormous that Naraku was burned by it as well, but not anything to worry about. As Naraku landed about three meters away from the explosion, it rose high and father and consumed everything in its path. Naraku was now looking at the explosion, which still proceeded to spread wildly, and lowered his hood to reveal his face. " I am Naraku, successor of the forbidden Crimson Craft clan! Just like you Rio..." Naraku said with pride. "................" Rio was knocked unconscious with many charred spots all over him and he was bleeding heavy also. DRAGON STORM CHAPTER 28: The Mystery of Ori! _ _ Still feeling horrible after his encounter with Naraku, Rio finally awakens after about 30 minutes. Rio was shocked to opened his eyes and see that he was now inside rather then being outside in the snowy weather. He grunted as he slowly sat up from lying down on the floor, which was made of metal. Rio slowly observed the mid-sized room and took everything in very quickly. He smiled to himself because he was so good at pointing things out and taking things in so fast, but that smile turned into a frown when he spotted Naraku leaning on the wall across the room with his arms crossed. Rio grunted in more pain as the last thing he remembered was getting his ass handed to him. " I treated your wounds." Naraku said calmly. "..............." Rio remained silent. "You won Rio." Naraku said calmly. ".............." Rio thought that Naraku was playing some sort of trick as he remembered what happened thought for thought and stared at his shirtless body, his red skin and black strips showing all over. * * *

(Flashback: Last chapter)

(Flash forward: Griffin stronghold)

• * * "How so?" Rio asked. " You landed a hit on me. You are the first to do so in a long while." Naraku said. " Tsk! Don't mess with me Naraku! That doesn't mean I won, it just means that I tricked you. That was the only way to bypass your guard which was always up, you never put it down for a second." Rio said. " Wrong! You passed out, so how would you know how much damage you really dealt? I suffered from a nosebleed and some first degree burns also." Naraku explained. " I didn't cause the nosebleed did I?" Rio asked. "Nah, I did.... It happens whenever I use too much power." Naraku said. "Hmph. Show off...." Rio hissed. "Through my eyes you have won because you are still alive, but you've sustained quite a bit of damage as well. Try not to force yourself up. I am not your enemy; I am not worried about Cross Wing's death. I brought you here in order to tell you something." Naraku said calmly. "......................................." Rio remained silent and looked away from him, disgusted at how weak he was. " I see that you are not interested at all, hmmm...." Naraku said. "............................." Rio was lost for words. "Maybe if I put it another way, you'll want to listen? It's about Nuker." Naraku said and began to walk toward Rio slowly. ".......the dragon god..." Rio whispered. "Yes...you think you know about our god, but you know nothing." Naraku said. "I know that he died from an internal illness and his remains might be somewhere in the D.E.O." Rio stated. " Ah. You are very observant indeed." Naraku said and stepped into the dim lighting of the room to show his face to Rio. " What the? What is the meaning of this!? Why do you look just like me?" Rio asked, now staring at a red-faced dragon with yellow eyes, just like Rio's face. " Wrong again Rio! It is YOU that looks like me." Naraku said. " All my life, I have been called allot of names by the kids at school and other random Anthros just walking by. They all called me different things, but there was always one name all of them used...Naraku. They all mistook me for you. All my life I have been called that instead of by my name! I feel like I am so fake! I feel like I am just your shadow! I have always wanted to know who this "Naraku" was.... And now I know. Quicksilver is only my step father, anyone can tell by just looking, he has silver scales and I have red skin with black strips. You're my real dad aren't you?" Rio asked. "................" Naraku smiled and walked around the room too see if anyone was coming just as a precaution. " I knew it! Why are you here? I have so many questions for you that- " Wrong yet again Rio!" Naraku interrupted. " Huh?! What?" Rio asked. " I am not your father... nor am I even related to you. In fact, I don't even know why we look so much alike for not even being related." Naraku said calmly. ".............." Rio was lost for words. " Maybe we should start with introductions. Like you, I am a survivor of the Crimson Craft clan, Naraku.... and the one who knows the truth about Ori." Naraku stated. " Huh!?" Rio asked, now looking up at Naraku's face, almost as if looking at a mirror. Suddenly, Rio's black markings covered his whole body in mere seconds. One of Rio's eyes glowed a crimson red while the other one remained a moon yellow color. Rio then felt a sudden burst of rage and hate and let out a black fireball at Naraku. Naraku avoided it, however it grazed his cloak and caught fire instantly. "Ahhh! No way!" Naraku said and ripped off his cloak's arm sleeve to save himself from burning alive and watched as the flame just kept burning away, even though the piece of fabric was gone already. It proceeded to burn and while it did, it had also managed to block the entrance into the building. "Wh-what?" Rio stuttered. " The black fires of Amaterasu!? That's impossible! How can you use that? Only Ori has that power!" Naraku exclaimed and then saw Rio under going his transformation. Suddenly, Naraku felt very weak and fell to his knees breathing heavy. Meanwhile Rio was felling better and stronger then ever before. "Ah! What...." Rio asked as his black markings vanished. "Impossible..." Naraku whispered. " What was that just now?" Rio said, now trembling in fear. " The Amaterasu, which Ori let's you use." Naraku said as he stands back up. "Huh!? I thought that I could do it. It has been Ori's power all this time?" Rio asked. "That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of Ori's powers, but yes, The Amaterasu belongs to him. And as for the second event that just took place... that was Ori's G.O.N., he can drain extremely massive amounts of any and all Quintessence anywhere from a small to mid-range proximity, after which, he can then freely absorb the amount he collected and add it to his own. Or in this case he added the amount he just gathered from me into both of you." Naraku explained. " The way you are talking about Ori like that makes me think that you somehow already know about Ori, I want to know how you know him and why he attacked you just now?" Rio asked. " We go back a long ways. We are enemies. He was greatly feared in all the nations and in all the clans. Ori was a wanted dragon for countless crimes everywhere. He is very dangerous and really powerful. It's not so much him as it is his nearly endless amount of Quintessence and abilities. How like Ori. He surprises you even after he's dead. Hmph... to think he planned things this far." Naraku explained. "What are you talking about!?" Rio asked in panic. " In order to kill me, he placed a new power inside you.... He most likely set his Amaterasu to self-activate whenever you are in a dire situation, which explains why you can use his power every now and then." Naraku explained. "Even Ori didn't know everything about me... otherwise I would be dead right now." Naraku thought. "Ori must have been one hell of a fighter to be feared by everyone everywhere. I guess the reason as to why he set his Amaterasu to Self-activate is to ensure I don't die. If I die then he will probably die too." Rio thought. " So this was his fail-safe plan...although when we fought, it didn't work on me." Naraku said. " Ori's goal was to destroy the Crimson Craft clan. Our clan has a dark history, you see. Did you know whenever a Crimson Craft clan member is killed, who ever killed the dragon will gain all the Quintessence and power it had. That is part of our power... we can't help it, it just happens. Us Crimson dragons are extremely powerful however... not just anybody could fight one let alone kill one. We always had opponents that would randomly try to come and slay us, anthro of all sorts, however... we killed them all and as such grew stronger. You see, we have a clan trait, or power that we all share. Every clan has one, but our clan had one of the best ones. We will automatically grow one time and a half stronger in Quintessence and power every time we are nearly killed, it will endlessly keep increasing our maximum amount of Quintessence, and we have no limit. Meaning every time we fall, we get back up stronger then before. That is why I almost killed you in our fight." Naraku explained. " Okay. I get you trying to protect me by nearly killing me and making me stronger, but what did you mean when you said Ori is dead? What makes him so powerful anyway? Was it his clan by chance?" Rio asked. "It wasn't just Ori, I told you our clan had a dark history, it was a curse that would never leave. Soon after the threat was too much for us, we began to kill each other in order to survive and put an end to whatever threatened us. We mated and proceeded this endless flawless cycle for years until Ori arrived and destroyed everything. It didn't help that the D.E.O. issued the complete destruction of our clan to not only enhance there own powers and military forces, but to rid the world of our kind to ensure the world remain peaceful and the senseless murders would stop. During all this chaos Ori died at the hands of your father Rio, however he used the last bit of his power, since he simply absorbed everyone else's Quintessence and kept his constantly full, to enter a living body through his spirit. He entered your body Rio. When this happens you inherited all his powers, but only at certain times can you use them. Your father, Leo, as well as a few of the surviving Crimson Craft members left, never to be seen again even to this day. They are all said to be extinct. You and I are all that's left." Naraku explained. " He can't really die then? He will just keep using his clan's power to enter a new body." Rio said. " Yeah, I know. The funny thing is... that's not his clan's power; he has no clan to belong to. He can do that because he is one of the nine-phantom dragons, and out of all nine... he is only the third strongest." Naraku explained. " The nine-phantom dragons? Who are they?" Rio asked. "Before Nuker died, he split his remaining power into nine entities, each one was sent to the nine farthest reaches of this world. Some have kept themselves hidden and others have shown themselves. They were all given different personalities in order to make sure they never wanted to be in the same spot or join sides for world conquest. Each one stays to himself. Nuker's long-term plan is to finally reunite all nine-phantom dragons and reincarnate himself as a new dragon god. Nuker had an illness eating away inside him and split himself into the nine-phantom dragons for this reason. Now he will have enough time to find a cure and recreate himself anew." Naraku explained. " So then Ori must have more then one G.O.N. since he is apart of Nuker... what effect will or does this have on me?" Rio asked. "I am unsure. Keep in mind that Ori is only 1/9 of Nuker. You will only be able to use his power once he takes control of you anyway. If you notice a new power then just stay calm and use it to your advantage. Things are more complicated then that I'm afraid. When Nuker split himself into nine, he left behind his formal body, the remains of Nuker. Since then, his body has been taken and now his genes are being used in the black market to give other anthrokind new powers or G.O.N.s if you will. Some are using their G.O.N.s for good deeds while others are using it to help their own needs. There are some out there that will try to gather all nine-phantom dragons together and recreate Nuker. It is said that if you can do that, then Nuker will obey your every will and only you will be able to completely tame him. Giving you or your group an endless supply of G.O.N.s and an undefeatable god as your doomsday weapon." Naraku explained. " ....................." Rio remained silent and tightened his fists. " Since you have one of the nine-phantom dragons inside you, you should expect those who are after them all to hunt for you. They may even use you or target your friends and family. They will do whatever it takes, be careful." Naraku said calmly. " Why is Ori protecting me in peril situations to begin with!?" Rio asked. " Ori is protecting you because if you die he will most likely die with you. He is going to try and keep you alive. You see, his body insertion G.O.N. can only be used once every one year. Until that time passes he will not be able to use it, that is the price you pay when you use that G.O.N. Nuker most likely set it that way so the user would not become immortal." Naraku explained. "So... in other words, Ori will protect me from dieing for one whole year." Rio said. " Well yes, but I don't get that part. Ori died over ten years ago, why hasn't he left your body yet? I don't know what he's planning." Naraku explained. "ENOUGH!!!. I have had enough. You have an excuse for every question I throw at you. If you continue speaking such nonsense, I'll kill you!" Rio exclaimed in rage. " Hmph, You know it's true. You were only ten years old when our clan was destroyed." Naraku said. "Grrrr......" Rio growled, his teeth now showing. " You're not making this easy, are you? I suppose that's natural though... suddenly being told a story by a stranger like me. However... what I tell you is the truth." Naraku said. " Ack! Ungh...aggg....." Rio said as he dropped to the ground and started to hyperventilate due to all the sudden information, putting such a toll on him emotionally. " Calm down!" Naraku said and walked toward Rio, who was now breathing heavy. "ahh....argg......." Rio mustered out in between breaths. " Breathe slowly!" Naraku said as he placed a hand on Rio's shoulder. " DON'T TOUCH ME!!!" Rio yelled and pushed Naraku away, still breathing heavy. " I'm sorry Rio, but from this moment on, your suffering truly begins." Naraku said. " Why... why didn't I know about it? Why didn't anyone inform me?!" Rio asked in shock. " You were kept in the dark despite being a Crimson Craft clan member because you were still too young." Naraku said. "............." Rio was lost for words, now having mixed feelings about the matter. "Don't worry Rio, you have what it takes to fight back and you have a tricky way of doing it too. You are crafty, hence our clan name." Naraku said calmly. " Yes, but... I want more power. I only got this far because of my friends and Ori, without them I would be dead right now." Rio said. " Very well, I will teach you one thing before I leave, are you ready?" Naraku asked. " Huh!? Really? Sure anything! Please make me stronger!" Rio begged, his ears perking up and his tail swaying side to side. "I will be teaching you "Quintessence concentration", with it, like me, you will be able to use your own Quintessence to help you with your speed and attacks. It is purely for support only; it isn't really something you can hurt your foe with. However it does help, trust me." Naraku explained. " Oh boy! A new move! Tell me, how to use this "Quintessence concentration"?" Rio asked. "Hmmm... before that, let me explain Quintessence power from the basics." Naraku said calmly. " Huh? Okay..." Rio said in slight confusion. "Quintessence is energy that a anthro needs when he or she uses a strong attack." Naraku explained. " You mean like a G.O.N.?" Rio asked. " Yes. However... you can also use it for other strong attacks. Quintessence is made up of two energies. First, the physical energy gathered together from each and every cell in the body. Secondly, Spiritual energy accumulated based on numerous trainings and experiences. In other words, Nuker's genes wrings out and combines these two energies in the body, and this is called "Life energy" also known as Quintessence. Then either becoming emotional or a sudden increase in adrenaline activates the Quintessence. Either way your heart is what pumps the blood flow, thus spreading the Quintessence through out your body." Naraku explained. " Blah! I have already used some strong attacks without all of the difficult explanations. I understand it... I just don't really care." Rio said. " No! You still haven't used Quintessence efficiently." Naraku stated. " What!?" Rio asked. "Hold on and listen... as I said earlier, combining life energy means picking up both the physical and spiritual energies and mixing them together within the body. And of course the amount of each energy, the preparation of each energy, changes based on the attack you want to activate..." Naraku explained. " I see." Rio said, now enlightened. " Even if you're able to combine allot of Quintessence, if you're not able to control it in a balanced way the effectiveness of the attack will not only be cut in half, but it may not even be activated at all. Wasting energy will prevent you from battling for long periods. Theses are some of the weaknesses that can occur." Naraku explained. " Wh-what should I do?" Rio asked. " You need to learn to control the Quintessence with your body! Watch this..." Naraku said and walked toward the wall, and began to climb it without using his hands. " What the? You are wall-climbing without using your hands and are now perpendicular to the wall using only your feet..." Rio said and watched Naraku perform this stunning trick. " So see..." Naraku said calmly while now walking along the ceiling. " Focus the Quintessence to the bottom of your feet and make them stick to the wall. If you use Quintessence well, you can do things like this." Naraku explained. " Let me try..." Rio said and closed his eyes to focus his Quintessence to the bottom of his feet and began to walk up the wall and on the ceiling to meet Naraku. "Very good. You sure do learn fast, but then again this is easier compared to other surfaces like water." Naraku said and dropped to the ground. "But... How does something like this make you strong?" Rio asked while looking at his long red tail dangle past his head. " So in other words... this is the main point... the aim of this is to accumulate the required amount of combined Quintessence to the required spot... the second aim is to maintain combined Quintessence. Allot of other anthros will battle under such situations where "control" and "maintenance" of Quintessence becomes surprisingly difficult." Naraku explained. " I see... I will work on it." Rio said and dropped to the ground. " I have thought this to you as a fellow Crimson clan member so please make good use of it. Now, before I go... let me warn you... by telling you this." Naraku said calmly and pointed at the staircase that lead further down into the griffin stronghold. "Hm?" Rio said and looked at the staircase and it's seemingly endless decent into the black abyss. "In order to survive, we cling to all we know and understand. And we label it reality. But knowledge and understanding are ambiguous. That reality could be an illusion. All anthros live with the wrong assumptions. Isn't that another way of looking at it?" Naraku said calmly. Rio was about to reply when suddenly, Rio turned to face the wall and an empty room. "Naraku?" Rio said. Rio stood there dumbfounded by Naraku's question and sudden disappearance. He didn't know if this meant that he was dreaming or having a hallucination. Was Naraku even real? Or did Rio just miss how he exited the room so quickly? Rio thought about this as Naraku's voice echoed in his head. To be continued.......................
