#21 of Black-Winged Angels: A Dragon's Pride Story

So here it is. The end of the story. I hope you enjoy this series.

"So, uh, what do we have here?" said Seraphor when he looked at an unfamiliar bronze statue of a wolf-man.

"Let me read the fine print. 'This statue commemorates the arrival of the Ice-Breaker and her crew, a crew of Lycans and dragon rider, on their daring travel from Ternor Continent and back.' Huh, so that's why there's the Lycan and the hellhound race."

"Lycans as in werewolves?"

"Well, it can be said like that. They came to this continent 75 years ago and admitted that they went through the dangerous ocean just to find a new world. It still amazed me that their travel was so daring."

Seraphor and Avila turned around to see a wolf-man standing behind them. He looked a lot like the wolf-man statue, but of course, he wore contemporary clothes of the humans. He was writing something on the pad he was carrying, with his tail swinging about like an excited dog.

He extended his hand and said, "Lawrence Rezmirn. You can call me Larry if you want."

"Seraphor," said Seraphor while extending his hand. "And this is my mate."

"So your name's Rezmirn, huh? I think I heard that name somewhere."

"It's a common name, but I don't really want to brag about it. My great-grandfather, Hans Rezmirn, was the first Lycan dragon rider and one of the first explorers of this continent. You can say I'm an immigrant descent, along with dozens of others with the name 'Rezmirn'. I'm not that unique. Besides, we also have family connection with the Schelkz."

"The hellhounds?" said Avila.

"Uhmm...well, that's a long story. It dates to my great-grandaunt Lilac Rezmirn...or Lilac Rezmirn-Schelkz after she married Ifrit Schelkz."

Seraphor looked at Avila, then back to the Lycan. "You have an extensive knowledge of your family."

"I'm proud of it."

"So if the Rezmirns are quite famous, why aren't you one of those dragon riders?"

"Oh, no, I don't really want to be one!" exclaimed Lawrence. "I...don't think any dragons are compatible to me anyway, since I don't practice magic. My hellhound families continue the tradition. I assume you've met Asthen, right?"

Avila nodded, but Seraphor didn't know what he was talking about. But after Avila mentioned the Hellfighters, he understood that part, making Avila sighed and said, "Why is your mind full of unrelated stuffs?"

Lawrence became Seraphor and Avila's tour guide for the day (Seraphor had never seen a different, rebuilt Pol Hain before). He told them the history of the place and the significance of their statue and the Lycan's statue, including a human-sized museum detailing their first exploration and arrival on Pol Hain.

Before long, Lawrence must leave the two to themselves because he needed to work, leaving them by the museum's door. Since Seraphor's size was like that of a young dragon, he could at least put his head in through the door to look the exhibit inside, but pulled his head out soon, opting to hear the repeating guide voice.

What intrigued them, though, was the mention of a 'mysterious brown-furred wolf' greeting the first exploration group, and that place was commemorated with a plaque. Avila walked towards the plaque as it said the exact words. What made them interested wasn't the fact that it was just a rumor, but because of the 'mysterious brown-furred wolf'.

"I bet that it was Gordon," said Seraphor. "I've heard stories of his appearances these past years in the Xici Kingdom archives, but I don't think he's with Rex."

"I think he's trying to find us, after a century. I mean, he can't die, right? Even if you want to kill him, time will rewind on him anyway."

"But where is he now? I don't think he'll miss the opportunity to meet us when he heard the news of our arrivals. We're quite big around here."

"Which leaves only one possibility."

Avila then looked towards the big, vast ocean. Seraphor followed her gaze and stared at the unlimited beauty, then realized her intention.

She smiled towards Seraphor and said, "So, fancy going to a new realm?"
