Coming To Terms

The dragon stands silently, musing over his pain as the cold wind whips about. The pale beams of moonlight catching the dragon's grayish skin and illuminating the nearby trees and bushes. The forest was bustling with life, the cries and natural sounds of animals going about their business, yet despite the overall calming atmosphere the dragon finds an unsettling disturbance in the air. The aromas about him of the earth couldn't hide an old familiar musk, one which he hasn't felt in what seems like centuries.

The dragon turns just enough, shifting his head as a single eye catches sight of a old familiar character; it was another dragon, though one couldn't tell since the figure is wearing a fitting robe and hood drawn over it's face. From the darkness of the hood, the dragon could see two bright pale blue eyes, "You... I know you. It's been a while, has it not?" he turns the rest of the way to face the figure with both his eyes, "Have you not caused enough suffering for me? Have you not a Master to serve now?"

The figure remains quiet and says nothing. Those eyes burning bright blue fixating on the silver dragon as it takes a few steps closer toward him, "So many questions, is that how you greet me after so long? Have you no desire to embrace me and tell me how much you have missed me," the figure speaks in a soft feminine voice.

The dragon growls loudly, infuriated by the other dragon's reply, "You, you who rule over my heart... you know how I feel about you. Your smell is like poison and it takes everything I have to resist getting on my knees, begging for forgiveness and asking you to come back, " the dragon replies as he steps back as his right hand reaches for the broadsword's handle, the sheath itself held securely by the dragon's armored loincloth. "Even if I did, I already know the way it unfolds as do you."

The figure sighs, stepping even closer as the figure's talon fingertips pull back the hood to reveal a female dragoness with white scales and with a mask of black scales across both her eyes, "Always so arrogant, you wonder why I left you in the first place. You became so jealous over my Masters... and so possessive. I felt you needed more time to mature, yet I'm saddened to see you've yet to learn anything from your past."

The silver dragon sighs, knowing well the dragoness speaks the truth as his hand goes back to rest at his side, "I loved you so much, that I was scared of losing you. Even as a friend, I still worry you'll one day just completely ignore me," he replies, the dragon now looking at the ground as he tries to fight back the emotional pain that was coursing through his mind, "I still love you, but you know that... and right now there's nothing more I'd like to do than take you here, now. You know that more than anyone, I'm sure you can feel it... perhaps even smell it" he continues on, a faint blush appearing on his scaly cheeks.

The dragoness slowly draws closer till she's able to bring her hand up and begins to comfort him by gently stroking the side of his muzzle, "Oh you, you're never going to get over yourself, are you? I know you love me, but I can't say the same... I wish I could, but right now I'm happy with my Master... I wish you could respect that. I know it pains you, but this is something you most come to terms or it'll consume you. I don't want to see that. Yes, you get on my nerves... you've driven me to the ends of my sanity at times, but I never once stopped being your friend, can't you see that?"

The silver dragon finally breaks down, leaning into the dragoness' figure. Her arms coming out and holding him up as he starts to weep against her shoulder, "I know, but I want more! I want to love you... I want to be with you for the rest of our lives and perhaps whatever lies beyond that. I always say I'm happy with being friends, but I'm only lying to myself. I can't see how I'll overcome these sensations I have for you!"

The dragoness continues to embrace the dragon as he cries. Her soft violet forked tongue brushing over the silver dragon's forehead in a motherly fashion, "You have to be strong. You have to learn that there's more out there in life than just me. I know you think I'm the world, but there are people out there who would happily be your mate. It's even possible that one day, I may be available for such a relationship, but don't waste your life on me. If it's meant to be, then it'll happen, but if not... then cherish our friendship for what it is. I'll never stop being your friend, no matter what."

The silver dragon purrs, his depressive state lightened up as he finds comfort in the dragoness' words, "I know, but the fates are so cruel to dangle such a beautiful person like yourself in front of me and then deny me the honor of being your mate. I know at one time we were, but I drove you away with my immaturity... At least I'm happy to know you don't hold it against me."

The dragoness laughs softly, her hand coming up and patting the dragon on his head, "Oh silly, I've told you countless times I have little desire to hold grudges. Besides, you've done far worse and I've parted ways with others for far less. You're definitely a special case, but I don't think I would change anything. Now only if you'd grow up a little and learn that my life simply can't revolve around you. I do have other friends and of course my Master to tend to."

The silver dragon nods, knowing well what she spoke of, "I know, it's just that your words comfort me... No matter how down I feel, or how bad I'm doing, your words are always comforting me. I would think I'd find comfort in simply knowing you're my friend, but at times it's like you don't even to want listen." His head turns just enough so he can catch a small glimpse of her beautiful face and peer into those eyes. So beautiful, he thinks to himself.

The dragoness holds him a little longer, her hand rubbing his back as she starts to groom to comfort the silver dragon, "I do listen, but you must have patience. I can't respond to you every time you want me to, but I assure you I'm not ignoring you. It's when you begin bugging me constantly that I ignore you, because I've told you before I hate when you do that," the dragoness says as she stops grooming him. Her hand carefully lifting his snout up so that her eyes look into both of his, "Please understand, I care for you as a friend... and just because I don't stop immediately what I'm doing doesn't mean I'm ignoring you. Just give me time and I promise you, I'll talk to you."

The dragon slowly pulls away, nodding and remaining quiet as he thinks over her words carefully, already aware that they were absolutely true, "I know, my patience is little next to almost none. I tend to forget you have a life and it can't just be turned off so you can give your attention to me," he replies as he slowly steps back, "I think it's best if perhaps we both leave. I need to tend to a few urgent matters regarding personal affairs... and I'm sure your Master is waiting for you, right?" the dragon ask as his wings expand and beat a few times causing dirt and other things to kick up.

The dragoness' hands drag gently against the silver dragon till finally he completely moves out of reach to which her arms come to rest back at her side, "Now you know that's none of your business, silly. Just remember, I'll always be here for you, but learn that my Master comes first, then my friends... Also, not every time I'm away from my Master means I'm available for conversation, but have peace in mind that I will eventually talk to you when I can, my friend, " she smiles as she turns around. She takes a quick run and then jumps, wings beating against the still air as she hovers for a few seconds then quickly takes off toward the horizon.

The silver dragon watches, admiring his friend's graceful take off despite how old she is, "Seems like the older she gets, the more beautiful she becomes. I will never stop loving you, but I'll simply redirect my love in a way that's agreeable between the both of us," he says and turns away as he witnesses her form disappearing off in the distance. With a brief gallop and a few thrust of his wings, the silver dragon gains momentum and enters flight as his large wings beat. As he begins to sail off in the distance, he hears a faint roar and takes a glance back before letting out a grand roar in return.
