Incidents in the night, and a potential ally is found. Longest chapter yet, guys, hope ya like it!

Rio jolted, something having startled him awake, and took stock of the situation. Even with his excelent night vision and good hearing, his surroundings were filled with silent shadows. He started to roll over, but a heavy weight across his legs and chest prevented him from moving. He froze, unsure of where he was. Panic began to claw the edges of his focus, until the sound that had woken him came again. It was someone speaking softly, their mumbled speech intersperced with frightened whimpering. Though he couldn't make out what the boy was saying, he recognized Skyler's voice coming from a foot or so in front of him and last night's events blossomed in his mind, banishing his fear. Closing his eyes again, he took a few deep breaths before surveying his surroundings once more. Now that he knew where he was, the menacing shadows around him materialized into the sleeping forms of his friends. Craning his neck, he found that Mike had cuddled up close and that which prevented his movement was the leg and arm of the amorous bear cub draped across his boyfriend. Smiling affectionatley, he snuggled back into his embrace and had almost fallen back asleep when Skyler whimpered again. Sighing, he moved Mike off of him and rolled over to the beleagured puppy. "Hey," he whispered, sitting up and shaking the sleeping pup's shoulder, "Skyler, wake up." The second grader lurched backwards, breathing heavy, eyes wide and filled with fear. "Hey, calm down buddy, it's Rio. You're in a tent in my back yard, remember?" "Rio!" Skyler surged forward and hugged his friend fiercely, "They're after me, you've got to save me!" "I've got you," Rio replied, pulling the younger cub into his lap and hugging him tight, "You're safe, little dude, I won't let them get you." Skyler buried his face in Rio's shoulder, and the tiger rocked gently, rubbing his friend's back until he felt the terrier's panicked heart beat begin to slow. As the young terrier's death grip on Rio's chest slowly relaxed, so did other muscles in the puppy's anatomy and the tiger felt a familiar wet warmth begin to spread between his legs. He looked down at the tip of Skyler's sheath and, sure enough, a small trickle of pee was arching across the small gap between them and soaking into his groin. "There, see? You're fine." Rio said, giving the younger cub another squeeze and trying to ignore his steadily growing erection, "Now, what's after you?" "Vampires!" Skyler's voice, muffled by Rio's fur, trembled as he clutched his protector, "A meteor hit the moon and sent a bunch of evil stuff into the water and everybody that drinks it turns into vampires and I tried to warn her but it got my sister and they're trying to eat me and-" "Hey, Skyler, listen to me," Rio sighed, rocognizing the plot of Kaylie's favorite horror movie, "There are no such things as vampires." "Yes there are! We were hiding but it found us and so we ran up the mountain cause we knew you would help us." "Skyler," the tiger replied, "Look outside, my house is not at the top of a mountain. You were having a nightmare, go back to sleep." "But it got Kaylie!" Skyler pulled back to meet Rio's gaze, his eyes filled with tears and guilt, "I tried to save her, but I was too late, so I had to push her off a cliff, and-" "You're sister is fine, Skyler," Rio interrupted, untangling himself from the puppy's frightened grasp and picking his way over his friends to exit the tent, his piss soaked, rock hard, tool bobbing between his legs as he moved, "If I can prove to you that Kaylie isn't dead, will you go back to sleep?" "Yeah, but you can't survive falling off a cliff!" "Good thing you didn't push her off a cliff, then huh?" The tiger replied, walking back to sit next to the terrier, having retrieved his cell phone, earbuds, and a roll of paper towels. "Let's give her a call." Hitting the speed dial for Kaylie's phone, Rio slid his earbuds into the headphone jack. Giving one to Skyler and putting one in his own ear before rubbing his frightened friend's back again, he unrolled the paper towels and started sopping up Skyler's puddle while they waited for Kaylie to pick up. After a few rings it went to voicemail and Rio hung up, immedieatly dialing again. This process repeated itself three times until on the fourth it only rang once before being ignored. "Oh no you don't," Rio muttered, dialing again, "If I have to be awake for this, so do you." "WHAT!?" Kaylie's voice exploded through the earbuds after half a ring, the elder terrier clearly having just woke up and just as clearly not pleased about it, "It is three twenty seven, Rio, why are you waking me up?" "Kaylie you're alive!" Skyler whisper-yelled, "I'm so sorry for shoving you off the cliff!" "Sky? Why do you have Rio's... Wait, cliff? What're you-" "Your brother thought you had turned into a vampire and were going to eat him," Rio interrupted, "Ya know, because of the meteor that hit the moon. Sound familiar?" "Meteor? What... Oh," The older terrier's tone went from confused to guilty as she finally made sense of the situation, "Skyler, that never really happened. It was part of a movie, little bro, remember? We watched it a couple days ago." "So you're not a vampire?" Skyler asked, his breathing beginning to slow, "Promise?" "Yeah, Sky, I promise. Now go back to bed, okay? Love you little dude." "Okay... Love you too. G'nite.." The terrier pulled the earbud out and gave Rio another hug before crawling back to his blanket and passing out, never having woke up enough to notice the mess he had made, or the effect it had on his friend. "Sorry about that, Rio," Kaylie sighed, "Thanks for looking out for him, is he alright?" "Yeah, he's asleep already. Sorry to wake you up, but it was the easiest way I could think of to calm him down." "Yeah, don't worry about it. No more horror movies for a while though. Night Rio." "Night." Disconnecting the call, Rio wrapped his earbuds around his phone and set them against the side of the tent. Crawling back to his own spot, he layed on his back and contemplated the pole between his legs. Before he could come up with a game plan, Mike rolled over and draped his arm acrossed his chest. "Sky okay?" He whispered, snuggling close without opening his eyes. "Yeah, he's no worse for wear," Rio replied, "I don't think he ever actually woke up." "That's good," the bear murmered, bringing his knee up to his boyfriend's crotch, grinning as he discoverd the tiger's predicament, "I like the feel of that. Were you two having fun without me?" "No, definately not." Rio chuckled, shifting to stop Mike's practiced nudging of his balls, "Apparently he had a bit too much soda last night plus that nightmare of his. I startled him when I checked on him, so he peed on me and well, you know how that kind of stuff affects me." "Ooh..." Mike's paw wrapped around Rio's piss slicked member and slowly started to paw him off, causng the tiger to arch his back and moan through clenched teeth, gently pumping his hips into his boyfriend's grip. "You know, it's a shame there's none left, I just thought of a great use for it." "Is that right?" Rio panted, reaching over to the pile of paper towels just within his reach and bringing back one that was still dripping "What do you have in mind?" "Roll over, and find out." The bear smirked, smile spreading ear to ear as the tiger eagerly complied. "First things first..." Reaching down, he grabbed the base of the buttplug that his friend had almost forgot about. As he slowly pulled it clear of Rio's tailhole, his own cubhood came to life while his boyfriend's shuddering gasps played background music to the erotic display of stretching cub hole. When it finally came free, Mike tossed it to the side and gripped the paper towel, wringing it out over Rio's slightly gaping entrance. The tiger gasped, every muscle in his body tensing as he felt the cooling liquid trickle into him. "Duuude.... was that-?" "Oh yeah," the bigger cub whispered, slicking his own cubhood with the towel before pulling Rio onto his hands and knees, and lining himself up with his boyfriend's entrance, slowly sliding himself all the way home, leaning forward until his muzzle was right next to Rio's ear, "but you want to know the best part?" "W-what?" "One of the times we did this, I fucked you with my spit," the bear answered, pulling back until only his head was inside, "another time, I fucked you with pool water." As he spoke, he slowly slid hilt deep before just as slowy pulling back again, "This time? This time I'm fucking you with...." Here, the horny bear cub thrusted hard and fast all the way in, drawing an eye opening gurgle from the tiger beneath him. "Little." Thrust "Skyler's." Thrust "Puppy." Thrust "Pee pee!" Thrust Rio whimpered, shuddering as he came hard to the thought of the second grade terrier pissing whilst buried firmly in his tailhole. As the last drops hit the tent floor, Mike pulled himself free from his boyfriend's cummy rump and turned the exhausted tiger over into a sitting postion. Standing before the panting feline, he flexed his hips, causing his slimed erection to bob before Rio's eyes. Needing no further invitation Rio grabbed the base and started giving it a tounge bath, eagerly lapping up the combined taste of himself, Mike, and Skyler. The tiger's raspy tongue made short work of the bear's control and soon, Mike grabbed Rio's ears and pulled his head forward, sliding his three and a half inches into his friend's muzzle just in time to paint the back of his throat with warm seed. Rio swallowed his treat and smiled around his boyfriend's cocklett, giving it a few more affectionate licks before letting it fall from his mouth as Mike sank to the ground, "You are getting really good at that..." He panted, laying down and pulling Rio close to him. "Well, I had a good teacher," Rio replied, giving the bear cub a kiss on the nose before snuggling in. "Too cute for words," Mike smiled, returning the kiss with one of his own between Rio's ears, "Good night, Rio." "Night, night." The tiger replied, closing his eyes and slipping back into the land of dreams.

"Wow!! You can actually do it! That's awesome!" Skyler's excited voice rang through the tent, once more waking Rio. Grumbling under his breath, the white tiger cracked his eyes open, noting the pile of plugs sitting next to the side of the tent before rolling into a sitting position. "What's so amazing that- Well, well, that is rather impressive." Rio said, answering his own question as he turned to face the inside of the tent and caught sight of Toby. The parrot was balanced on his shoulders and the back of his head, the rest of his body arched over just far enough for him to get his tongue curled around the shaft of his erection. "I know, right?" The terrier grinned, "He said that he'd let me watch him shoot into his mouth!" "Oh yeah? Well how about you help him out?" "What do you mean?" "Remember last night, when he said that he likes stuff going up his butt?" The tiger grinned, locking eyes with Toby and grinning wider as the parrot winked at him, Looks like Mike collected all of his toys already, so if you get your fingers all slippery you can shove a few of them up in there and he'll probably shoot a lot faster then if you leave him to his own devices." "Oh yeah!" Skyler giggled, popping the middle two fingers of his right hand into his mouth, pulling them back out with a thick strand of puppy slobber, "Ready Toby?" The parrot nodded as best he could with his weight on his neck, and moved his tail feathers out of the way. Skyler giggled again and smeared his thick slobber around Toby's tailhole, coating it in warm slime before pushing his fingers second knuckle deep into his friend. The parrots eyes widened as he felt himself stretching, then slid shut as the second grader started pushing them in and out of his tight warmth. "Hey," Rio whispered, getting up and whispering in Skyler's ear, "push in as far as you can go, then spread your fingers apart." "Yeah?" The terrier whispered back uncertainly. "Yup, trust me." With a giggle, Skyler did as he was told, leaning his weight forward and getting another centimeter of penetration before spreading his fingers as best he could. Toby's eyes shot open with a strangled squawk as he felt himself stretched in a completly new way, spasming as his concetration totally shattered, his cocklett jumping within his tongue's grip and shooting spurt after spurt of his own warm cub cream down his throat. "Haha, go Rio!!" Skyler cheered, hi fiving the laughing tiger. "Dat was da strangest feelin..." Toby panted, dropping his feet to lay flat on his back and holding his arms open, "Come here Sky." The terrier went to his knees and gave him a hug, getting drawn into a kiss and tasting the parrot's cum as their tongues danced. "Wow, good show, guys!" Mike called from the back of the tent, applauding with Shayne and Zac. "What a way to wake up, right Rio?" Skyler giggled. "Oh, Rio, do you have any idea where that came from?" Shayne asked gesturing to the pile of paper towels near the middle of the tent. "What, that?" Rio glanced from the mess to Skyler. The terrier had frozen in place and was staring at the mess as if willing it out of existance. "Nope, I have no idea, somebody must have spilled something last night." "Wherever it came from," Toby interupted, "We need ta clean dis up." "Yeah," Rio nodded, gazing at the food wrappers and empty containers strewn around the yard, "my mom'd kill us if we left it like this. Everybody get dressed and give a hand, Shayne quite stalling for time, and we'll have this cleaned up in no time." After a bit of good natured jostling over the pile of clothing, the newly dressed cubs set about getting the yard cleaned up and as Mike stowed his cameras, Skyler pulled Rio aside. "Thanks for not telling, about, ya know. I thought I had dreamed it all, but when I woke up and saw..." the little terrier took a deep breath and shrugged. "Anyway, thanks for not telling the guys and sorry for, ya know, peeing on you." "Don't worry about it, buddy boy, I like that kind of stuff, remember? And as I recall, I'm not the only one," Rio replied, getting a small smile from Skyler, "But if you're really worried about it, you might want to ask Mike about more diapers. Never would have happened if your cute little rump was in a cute little pamper." "Hey, thought I heard my name, you guys talking about me?" Mike interrupted, walking up. "Yeah, actually, Sky here was wondering if you could get him some more diapers." Rio replied, grinning as the terrier blushed. "Sure, it'll take a bit for them to be delivered, but call it a late birthday gft. Speaking of gifts, here." Mike held out Rio's pacifier with braided leather cord tied through the loop on the front, "Almost forgot that I had the cord at the bottom of the bag." "Dude, cool!" Rio took the paci necklace and slipped it over his head, hiding it under his shirt, "Thanks!" "Yeah, thanks," Skyler added, "Ya know, for the diapers? I think we should start helping though, the other guys are staring to look annoyed," "You're right, let's do this." Mike nodded, and with everyone cleaning, a few minutes later the group trooped into the kitchen. "Morning boys," Rio's dad said, looking up from his coffee, "Anything planned for the day?" "Don't think so," the younger tiger replied, glancing at the clock, "Darn... ten thirty, mom's already left for work, huh?" "Yep," draining his cup, the elder tiger crossed to the sink and started the few dishes left over from him and his wife's breakfast, "There's milk and cereal, or toast if you guys are hungry, but I've got to leave in about half an hour so I don't have time to make anything for you." "Hey, Mr. Kendrick, can we go with you?" Zac piped up, drawing a confused look from all assembled. "Why would you want to run errands with my dad?" "I don't, we won the game on Friday." "Oh yeah!" Skyler chirped, "The school does a breakfast thing when we win home games, I almost forgot." "So did I, actually," the elder tiger nodded, "Rio, go see if Kody wants to come, we're leaving in twenty." Pinballing past his friends headed in the other direction, Rio made his way to the basement door and knocked lightly before opening it and jogging down the stairs. "Hey Kody, you awake?" He called, looking around without seeing anyone, "Kody?" "Hold on." The reply came from down the hall. "Oh, cool, take your time. My dad's giving us a ride to school for the breakfast thing, did you want to come?" "I don't like being at school," the bunny replied, emerging from the bathroom clad in the light blue jean shorts and green t-shirt Rio's mom had bought him with his hair and ears pulled back into a short pony tail, "People pick on me at school." "No, they USED to pick on you at school," Rio said, "Remember, we've got your back now. Still, if you want to stay that's fine. I'll tell the guys to head out and we can just have cereal or something." "You'd stay behind if I didn't want to go? Why?" "Because, my friend, it's not nice to leave people by themselves." "Wow.... Thanks." "Anytime. So, what am I eating today, bacon and eggs or cocoa puffs?" "Well," Kody sighed, "This is as good a time as any to test this out. Let's go." "Alright!" Rio cheered and spun around, bounding up the stairs before skidding to a halt in the kitchen, "Oh, right, did you need-" "Help up the stairs?" Kody replied, following at a steady, if slower, pace, "No, I'm not as sore today. Just got to take it easy, but I am basically okay now." "Cool, we've got a few minutes before we leave, so just kinda hang out I guess." The two crossed through the kitchen and emerged into the living room amidst the cheers of the rest of the cubs. "Alright, alright, settle down," Mr. Kendrick grinned, "Glad to see you decided to join us Kody." "Those the clothes that Rio's mom got you?" Skyler asked, "They fit really good." "Speaking of good looks," Shayne added, "You should pull your hair back more often, it suits you better then just hanging in front of your face like it was all weekend." "Yeah, well..." the rabbit said bashfully, rubbing the back of his head, "Yeah. Most of my clothes are black, and I normally don't do anything at all with my hair. But I kind of like these colors, and I saw the hair tie on the counter in the bathroom, and remembered what Mike said about Prince Alarian. If people don't recognize me... Oh, is it okay if I use this? I can give it back, if-" "Don't worry about it, Kody," Rio replied, plopping down on the couch next to Mike, "My mom's got so many of them lying about I doubt she'll notice you took it." "Green or blue, Rio?" The bear asked, digging through his backpack. "Well, green, I guess." Rio replied, craning his neck to see what the bear was after. "Alrighty then, green it is." Mike nodded, sitting back and holding out a bottle of emerald nail polish, "Here, mind helping me out?" "Sure, I guess, but since when do you paint your claws?" "I've been doing my hind claws since earlier this year, but this'll be the first time doing my forepaws." "The amount of times you've spent the night over here, you think that I would have noticed you with bright green claws." Rio's dad mused, watching his son's first attempt at a manicure. "You'd think, but unless I'm gonna be home I use the more subtle stuff. Besides, how often do you actually look at my feet?" Mike responded, wiggling his toes at the elder tiger, the light sparkling off the clear glitter polish on his claws, "See?" "Huh. I stand corrected. Why paint your forepaws now, then?" "Why paint any of your claws?" Skyler interrupted, cocking his head in confusion, "That's wierd." "Your sister paints her claws," Mike replied, gazing calmly back at the puppy, "so does your mom. Is it weird for them to do it?" "Well, no, but they're girls. "Just because girls started doing something first, doesn't mean that boys can't do it too, Skyler," Mr. Kendrick said, "It's true that most boys don't paint their claws, but there's nothing that says they can't." "Yeah Sky," Rio added, angling his head so that his dad couldn't see his face and blowing the terrier a kiss, "Besides, it's not like this is the weirdest thing you've ever seen Mike doing." The puppy blushed and giggled, the memories of his eventful night flashing through his mind. "I'm quite positive that I don't want to know what you just referenced," Mr. Kendrick shook his head with a smile, "So I'll ask my other question. Why pick now to paint your foreclaws?" "Well, you said that we needed to keep people from picking on Kody, right?" "If you go walking around school with your paws like that, people will be too busy picking on you to pay any attention to me." Kody put in, easing himself into a chair. "I tink dat's da point. It's a good idea, actually." Toby chuckled, " 'Specially wit yer change in looks. Yer gonna be catchin a lot of flak for dis, I hope yer ready for it Mike." "Yeah, but as you said, that's the point," Rio noted, sitting back, "I've never done that before, how'd I do?" "Not bad, actually," The bear replied, shaking his paws, "Hey, anyone wanna help the cause? I should have enough in here for everybody." "Why not? I'll play along," Rio reached into Mike's backpack without looking, pulling out a bottle of soft pink polish and tossing it to his dad, "Help me out?" "Sure, come here." Rio's dad chuckled, catching the bottle in mid air, "You're mother is going to think that I've lost my mind when she get's home." "Why's that?" "Because, my son," the elder tiger replied, gently putting pressure on Rio's paw to slide his claws into view, "When she asks me what I did while she was at work, I'm going to have to tell her that I painted your claws pink." "She'll never believe you," Zac laughed, "Shoot, I'm watching it happen and I don't really believe it." "Come on Zac, what's the big deal?" Rio replied, looking over his shoulder, "When my paws are relaxed only the very tips of my claws show anyway." "Yeah," Shayne smirked, then draped his arm across Zac's shoulders, "Your claws retract too, don't they buddy?" "Yeah, but-" "But nothing," the wolf interrupted, reaching blind into Mike's pack and coming out with a saphire blue, "Come on, then, sit down." "Only if he wants too, Shayne, you can't make him." Rio's dad said firmly without shifting his focus. "Well..." the orange feline rocked on his feet for a few seconds then squared his shoulders, "Alright, fine, but only if you do it too." "Fair enough. Hey Mike, you have anymore of that glittery stuff left?" "Sure do," the bear replied, taking a second to make sure his claws were dry before rooting in his pack and pulling out a half empty bottle, "Okay, so that's Shayne, me, Rio, and Zac. Just leaves Skyler and Toby." "Happy ta help da cause," Toby shrugged, "besides, dat blue color matches ma feathers." "All of those colors are really bright..." Skyler said nervously, "do you have any darker ones?" "Mom's got a whole bunch of colors," Rio cut in before the bear could reply, "Do you think she'd mind if Skyler borrowed some, dad?" "Probably not, now keep them out until they are completely dry or you're going to have a heck of a time getting it out of your fur," the elder tiger said, finishing up his son's last claw before motioning to the puppy, "Come on Sky, let's go pick you a color." Flexing his paws to keep his claws out, Rio watched his dad escort his youngest friend up the stairs then leaned back to watch the rest of his troop painting each other's claws. Several minutes later, Skyler galloped down the stairs and held his paws out, wiggling claws that appeared not to have changed color. "There! Whaddya think, guys?" "Decided not to after all, huh?" Asked Mike, slightly disappointed. "No, wait a minute," Rio said, getting to his feet, "That's actually a really cool one, watch." Grabbing Skyler's paw, he tugged him to the window and pulled back the curtain. As soon as the sunlight hit them, the puppy's naturally black claws started shining a deep red gold. "Dude, that's bad ass!" Mike said, moving for a closer look, "Where did she get this one?" "Not sure, one of my aunts got it for her on her birthday I think," Rio replied, letting the curtain drop, "Works in reverse too." As soon as the direct sunlight was gone, the puppy's claws faded back to flat black. "Dude." The bear nodded, "I have GOT to get that one." "I'll see if I can find out where she got it from," Rio's dad cut in, "I have to get going now guys." "Right," Shayne said with a clap, "to the truck!" Wisely standing out of the way of the stampede, the elder tiger followed the cubs into the garage. "Now, obviously, you won't all fit in the cab of the truck," he said, closing the door behind him, "however, my wife has told me in no uncertain terms that I am not allowed to let anyone ride in the bed." "So... we're not going?" Zac asked, ears drooping. "I didn't say that." The elder tiger walked to the back of his truck and dropped the tailgate before deliberately not looking at any of the cubs on his way back to the cab. "Gee, I hope that nobody climbs into the bed of my truck," he said loudly, making a big show of pulling out his keys, "because I SIMPLY couldn't allow something like that." "Come on, come on, come on!!" Rio whispered, grabbing the side of the bed and vaulting into the back, "He'll leave without us if you guys don't hurry!" The rest of the cubs scrambled after the tiger, Shayne and Toby providing Kody with the assist, then ducked out of sight just as the garage door finished opening. "I'm off boys," the elder tiger called out the window, ignoring the stiffled giggles behind him with a grin, "behave and don't mess up the house!" Pulling down the drive, Rio's dad took the smaller side streets and drove a bit below the speed limit so as not to jostle his passengers. As he passed the school, he pulled off to the side of the road with an exaggerated sigh. "The tailgate is down, now HOW did I miss THAT? I guess I will have to get out and close it." He called loudly out the driver's side window, taking his time to unbuckle his seat belt and open the door. "That's our cue, come on guys, hurry up!" Rio whispered, rolling over the passenger's side of the bed and landing lightly in a crouch, "Come on, Kody!" The bunny sat on the side and swung his legs over, gingerly sliding down the side into Rio's waiting arms, the tiger catching him under his armpits to soften his landing. Soon as his feet were on the ground, the rest of the group dove over the side and they scampered around in front of the truck. "There we go," Mr. Kendrick called, slamming the tailgate, "I am so glad that I did not let those boys ride in the back of the truck. Now to get back in and drive away." As he moved back to the cab, the cubs mirrored his progress on the opposite side, hiding near the back as he got in and fired up the truck, staying crouched until he started to move away. "Very stealthy," he called back, giving a salute in the rear view mirror, "Never even knew you were there. Have fun guys!" "My dad rules," Rio chuckled, "Come on, let's go!" After checking for traffic, the group crossed the road and walked around to the school's back field where multitudes of tables, awnings, and griddles were set up to feed the throng of students milling about. Coming around the corner, Kody saw the mass of students and froze in his tracks. "Hey, you okay?" Rio asked, stopping everyone else. "Yeah, I think," the bunny said softly, "I just don't like crowds." "Hey, we don't need to go through the crowd," Skyler piped up, "Kaylie's helping out here, that's why she didn't stay over last night. She's got a booth on the other side. We can just go around the outside and then hang over there with her." "Alright, cool," Shayne nodded, "Let's go then." Keeping to the edges, they skirted the throng and a few minutes later, Kaylie came into view, flipping pancakes. "Kaylie!!" Skyler bellowed, tearing off at top speed. Darting around startled cubs and teachers alike, he reached his sister and threw himself into a hug that almost knocked the older terrier off her feet. "I am SO glad that I didn't throw you off a ciff." "Woah!! Hey there, little dude," Kaylie laughed, giving her brother a one armed hug while waving to the rest of the group, "Happy not to have BEEN thrown off a cliff. Sorry again, Rio." "Cliff?" Toby asked, raising an eybrow at the grinning tiger. "Sky had a nightmare last night," Rio explained, "Took me a minute to get him back to sleep. Don't worry about it, it happens." "Cool." Untangling herself from her brother, Kaylie looked past her friends to the bunny that was skulking nervously behind them, "Hey, didn't expect to see you here. You're looking good. Really good, actually, I love the hair." "Oh... um, well, th-thanks?" Kody stammered, blushing and trying to hide behind Shayne. "Oh, no you don't," the wolf chuckled, quick stepping behind the flustered bunny and giving him a gentle push forward, "Be sociable." "H-hi?" Kody said, giving his head a twitch, then blushing deeper as he remembered that his bangs were tied back and he couldn't hide behind them. "Hello," Kaylie chuckled, coming out from behind the griddle, "Seriously, that is a fantastic look. You've got beautiful eyes, I just couldn't tell before with all that hair in your face." "Oh, well, thanks... I guess, I mean your eyes are nice too." "They are not, they're just blue." "Blue is a good color too." Kody replied, getting a dismisive wave from the female terrier. "Maybe, but, your's though, that shade of green plus the color of your shirt? They're popping, it's really cool." "Um, Kaylie?" Mike said, his nose twitching. "Besides. I can never do anything with my hair," she continued, ignoring the bear cub as she tried to step behind Kody to get a better look at his hair, "let alone my ears, doesn't having them tied back like that make it hard to hear?" "Kaaayliieee...." Rio tried this time, and was also ignored by the terrier. "Well, no," the bunny replied, automatically turning with the terrier to keep her in front of him, "It's a bit muffled but not really a problem." "Oh, so like my skateboard helmet. See, I would have thought-" "KAYLIE!!!" Mike and Rio yelled in unison. "What?!" Turning to face her friends, the female terrier planted her hands on her hips and glared, "I'm trying to have a conversation, what is so important that you just HAD to interrupt me?" "You're burning the pancakes." Skyler answered for them from behind the griddle. "Oh, crap!" She spun and glowered at the smoking ruin that was supposed to be pancakes, "Why didn't you flip them if you saw them burning?" "Because you took the spatula!" The younger terrier retorted, pointing at the offending implement dangling forgotten from her paw. "Oh... well... then, okay, fine." After shooing her little brother out of the way and clearing the mess, she turned back to Kody, "Hey... did you want to help me make more?" "Oh, um, yeah, sure... I guess?" The bunny bashfully stepped around the griddle to stand with her as she grabbed a spare apron. "Come on, that is just not fair." Kaylie said, helping him tie the strings behind his back, "Even the school apron looks cute on you." "It does?" Kody asked, looking over his shoulder, a hesitant smile playing across his lips as he met Kaylie's eyes, "It looks good on you too..." The terrier's eyes sparkled in the sunlight as a smile spread across her face, Kody blushing almost crimson as he realized what he had just said. "Da apron is cute?" Toby arched an eybrow, looking at Zac, "Did I hear dat right?" "No, the apron is not cute," the feline clarified, "What she's saying is that HE is cute. He just happens to be wearing the apron." "Will you two be quiet?" She muttered, untying the tangled mess she had made of the strings, "You're distracting me." "Right, WE'RE distracting you, sure thing sis." Skyler giggled, dropping down to sit against the leg of the griddle, "I'll just sit over here, out of your way." "Good, and be quiet," she said, finally getting the strings in order and opening up her cooler, "Drat... I'm running out of milk... hey Rio, would you take the cooler and grab me more stuff?" "Sure thing, Kaylie, where I'm I going?" "Follow the extension cord. The teachers have a thing set up over there with all of the supplies." "Cool," Rio grabbed one side of the cooler and gestured to the other, "Give me a hand Mike?" "Too heavy for you?" The bear smirked picking up the other side. "Not right now, but who knows what they're going to load it up with?" "Not to have everyone leave at once, but me and Toby have to go for at least a little bit." Zac said as his friends hefted the cooler, "The team usually sits together for this thing." "No problem," Shayne said, grabbing one of the folding chairs scattered around, "Rio and Mike won't be gone for long, and until they get back me and Sky'll keep an eye on things." "Yeah, I don' tink anyting will happen in da next hour or so, and Kaylie's here too." Toby nodded. "Huh, what?" The female terrier started at her name, looking up from where she and Kody had their heads together over a mixing bowl. "No, she's really not," Rio chuckled, "but we'll be back in a minute or two." Carrying the cooler between them, they two cubs weaved their way through the mass of people waiting to eat, eventually coming to a cluster of tables with mini fridges and a few portable generaters watched over by pair of teachers. "Good morning boys," one of the teachers, a white mouse, greeted them as they approached, "What can I help you with?" "Just doing a bit of shopping, Ms. Sloan." Mike replied, hefting the cooler onto the table top. "Oh? I don't recall you two signing up to help this morning," the mouse mused, glancing over a check list, "What are your names?" "We're not going to be on the list ma'am," Rio pointed out, "we're actually getting supplies for our friend, Kaylie Rhys? She got a bit distracted and burned the first batch, and sent us for more stuff cause she didn't want to leave her stuff unattended." "The dynamic duo in the flesh," a familiar irish brogue sounded from behind the mouse as Mr Odhran stepped into view, "Now, the two of ye did nae have anything to do with distracting the lass, did ye? "Us? No, we're the picture of innocence." Mike replied, holding up the adventure scout salute, Rio following suit a half second later, "Scout's pledge." " Ye know that ye have to actually be scouts for that to mean anything right?" "Oh, leave them alone, Padraig," Ms Sloan swatted the stoat playfully on the arm before opening a few fridges and loading the cooler with supplies, "There you go, boys. Do you need help?" "Naw, we've got it." Gripping the handle, Mike gave it a tug, grunting at the weight. "Are you sure?" "Yeah, no doubt," Rio replied, popping his knuckles and flexing his claws before getting a good grip, "Ready Mike?" "Hold on a second lad," Mr. Odhran said, putting his hand ontop of the cooler, "My eyes might have just played a trick on me there, so I hope that ye'll indulge my curiosity. Would ye mind if I got a closer look at yer claws?" "Oh, yeah, um.." Rio's nerves almost got the better of him, but he felt Mike's fingers intertwine with his behind the cooler, giving his paw a reasurring squeeze, "Yeah, sure." He held out his free paw and fully extended his claws, the pink polish proving to be pearlescent in the sunlight. "Oh, that is just adorable!" Ms. Sloan said, grabbing his paw, "What a pretty color!" "I thought so," Mike said, holding out his paw for inspection as well, "That's the one that I wanted to use, but he got to it first, so I settled for this one." "Well, that is a good color too, don't you worry," the mouse smiled, "and may I just say that I think it is lovely that you two are brave enough to express yourselves and not worry about what your peers think." "A testament to yer bravery, too be sure," Mr. Odhran nodded. Taking note of the fact that Rio had offered his left paw, the stoat leaned forward and caught sight of the two cubs' intertwined paws before they could let go, "Bravery indeed, lads," he continued, meeting the nervous gazes of both cubs, "though there is a certain amount of valour to be found in discretion, know that if ye wish to fully... 'express' yerselves, ye have people that will stand by ye." "Thanks, Mr. Odhran." Mike smiled, "and you to, Ms. Sloan, for the supplies, but we need to get back to Kaylie." "Right, we're going to be serving soon, so she needs to get cooking. Hurry along, then boys." With a final nod to teachers, the two cubs hefted the much heavier cooler and made their way back to their friends.
