A birthday poem for my friend Wolf Skull Jack on Twitter.

Werewolf Queen and the Little Blue Bird

The Werewolf Queen had with her a little blue bird,

an often grating companion with which she knew she'd be heard.

The bird had let slip today was the day of Her birth,

twas to be a day full of laughter, of amusement, of mirth

Twas a day of celebration as the creatures lined up,

from the greyest of muzzles to the smallest young pup.

Many brought gifts for their beloved Queen,

to celebrate the future and what already had been.

Year 'round it was She who created for these beasts,

but now it was their turn to supply Her with treats.

The little blue bird flew hither and thither,

relaying their gifts 'til the poor thing looked quite withered.

Sculptures and poems, scrolls with images of creatures,

many fantastical beasts these images did feature.

The Queen humbly accepted these gifts from Her throne,

and leaned back into the giant seat made from bone.

The Queen thanked each subject for their offering in turn,

though sometimes she felt they were things she'd not earned.

Her subjects insisted on plying her with gifts,

in the hopes that their Queen's spirits might lift.

They merely wished to give Her joy like she'd given,

to every one of Her subjects, to all men and women.

So today they'd celebrate and make themselves heard,

"Joy to the Werewolf Queen and Her Little Blue Bird!"

Happy birthday, Michelle.
