Prologue

For many centuries in the Realm of Mondias, there had been peace. For farmers, each year

would yield fruits and vegetables, more or less than the last, and never too little. The seas were a green-blue tint and its waves were majestic. The surface was pristine, and never had any debris on it and the depths below teamed with many kinds of aquatic creatures. Each year, fishermen never went home with less than their quota. Each year, the few markets in each town bustled with customers from all over the northern continent of Nore Amikah, and some from the southern continent of Jai-Mas even.

For those who remember, and few do, there once was a Great War fought between the more

intelligent of races: the Humans, the Elves, the Acems, the Dwarves, the Dragyns, and the

Narics. Each race had their ideals of good and evil, and unfortunately both good and evil fought this war based on ideals. All the good and evil of each race formed armies, and those who did not wish to fight simply helped those who did by aiding them with food and shelter and healing.

The Great War lasted for many years. Even the some of the children of generals and

commanders became fighters or healers themselves. It was some thirty years after the war began that another race appeared... the Terae. A truce was called. Two Terae diplomats appeared to each side, and reasoned with them. After a week of reason and voice, the two sides joined together as one people: the Mondians.

True, there were still some slight differences, and variegated races, but there was peace

throughout the lands. Terae, though not social plant-humanoids, became the voice of reason

itself, and taught a form of energy to all other races: Magik.

Humans existed as diplomats, soldiers, civilians, shop owners, blacksmiths, weaponsmiths,

guards, royalty, and so forth.

Elves themselves were a differentiated race, both having sub-races: the fair-skinned,

gentle-natured, forest-dwelling Tree Elves, and the obsidian-skinned, ruthless, subterranean

Lunar Elves. They all had pointed ears, an almost infinite life span, and a general liking and

subtlety for Magik.

Dwarves live mostly underground and in mountainside caves, and are quick tempered, rugged humanoids, with a short stature. They mostly mined and supplied ore and precious gems and like for a fee to other races.

Acems are lizard-like humanoids that took a liking to warfare and alchemy, as well as the more evil aspects of living: crime. They varied in size, but all had a bad disposition.

The Narics also took up Magik very well, and use it mainly to help themselves rather than others.

These feline-like humanoids live mostly in the desert and the plains, and generally keep to

themselves or the nomads, but are very social creatures, and live in packs or prides. They

generally provide the fish to the markets, as they are well-adapted swimmers and fishermen.

After the Great War, Dragyns seemed to have disappeared altogether, but they still existed, and were rarely seen even by travelers.

The strange thing is that the Terae seemed to disappear as well, like the Dragyns had. Though they, too, still existed no one ever saw another one again.

About a thousand or so years after the Great War, another ideal began to arise. The people of Amarahn began to think that they were the stronger city of the Humans. Their leader, Maximus of the Amarahn Clan, brought about a New World Order, and Amarahn was the first city to fall under this Order, though they never resisted. Within a few months the Clan had seized control of most smaller cities, and began to go after the larger cities- San Kailon, Frenen, Kalo, Sena Rica, and the two same-city capitals of Nore Amikah, Maltese and Brunia.

These cities fought with great power, and the Amarahn Clan christened them as cities that must be destroyed rather than captured.

***

Kalo was closest to San Kailon, and San Kailon was running low on reserve supplies, and so part of Kalo came to help San Kailon, but after a few long hard battles, San Kailon fell.

[In the next Chapter of IoR, the fall will be discussed, and more in depth detail will be told about certain individuals that helped shape a better resistance for the future of Mondians]
