Things were finally looking up for Herta, at least somewhat, as she walked awkwardly through the lunchroom and past the judgmental stares of her peers. She finally made her way to a table on the far end, plopping her chubby rump into a chair next to Jodie, her only friend at this new university. She recently transferred from her home country and had faced nothing but bullying since, mostly from the predator species, the worse were a sorority or canines who were vicious in their mocking and bullying of her. Weight, Species, Accent, the clothes she wore, her makeup, her sexuality. They would go for every fruit they could. She'd never faced that kind of bullying in all her time in school back home, and she'd spent many a night crying herself to sleep...that was, before Jodie.

The vixen smiled warmly now towards the mouse as she took a seat, wrapping her arm around Herta and giving her a gently half-hug. "Don't worry about 'em Hertie. They just don't see what I see."

Herta's faced curled into a wide grin, the mouse scooting over to embrace her vulpine lover even more tightly. "Thank you, Jodie. Ever since I came here....I never felt welcome...until I met you. Th-thank you."

Herta was choking back tears, warm barely salty streams rolling down her cheeks as she snuck a kiss to her lover. The nearby tables erupted into laughter at the sight, but Herta just ignored it, letting her mind wander as she thought of how much she loved the canid she was holding right now, how hugging her made all the problems and fears and bullying melt away.

After what seemed like an eternity and not long enough all at once Jodie finally pulled away, still smiling warming, her face a little red. "I'm glad, love you~"

The mouse chirred with joy at hearing the words. Even after four months of dating, it still felt like the first time she heard it. Her thoughts began to wander once again, she couldn't help herself. She'd never been so happy, even in this hell she was finding herself elated, taken above it by her love for Jodie.

"Hertie, I wanted to ask you something...."

"Y-yes" The mouse broke herself out of her daydreams.

"There is going to be a dance in a couple of days, a big one. I've already picked out a dress to wear...would you like to be my date?"

Herta felt tears coming to her again as she embraced the vulpine once more, even tighter than before, feeling Jodie's warm hands wrap around her in return.

"I-I thought you wouldn't ask...."

"And why wouldn't I ask my favorite mousie to the dance? It's at night, Friday, I'll meet you out front and we can go in together."

"O-of course, b-but....I-I don't own a dress...." Herta felt her heart drop again, but before it could shatter her lover spoke up.

"That's no problem, just wear your uniform, it'll be fine. It's just a little dance."

Herta nodded, the two moving onto others topics as they ate, the mouse smiling the entire time, widely. Oblivious to the laughter still coming from the nearby tables. The two sat for a long while before Jodie's phone started to beep, causing the vixen to jump a bit before fumbling around to take out her phone.

"Damn, I gotta go, Hertie. Sorry. We can talk later, okay."

Herta snuck in another kiss, nodding before waving the vixen off, staying to finish her plate of food, the euphoria slowly fading as the occasional giggle broke her daydreaming. It was only a few minutes after Jodie left that one of the worst of the bullies pranced by the table, knocking Herta's plate off in the process.

"Oops. Sorry, I didn't you there. Oh well, maybe that'll help you lose some weight anyhow." The vixen tried to sound as insincere as possible. She was the head of a sorority, Psy Alpha Psy. The same one whose members tormented her throughout her short time at this new school. They all dressed in prissy little uniforms, and waltzed around like they owned everything.

"You probably can't even bend over, so let me help you out."

The vixen bent down and took the plate, letting it slip out of her paws and onto Herta. Boiled vegetables, mac & cheese, and potatoes stained the mouse's clothes as globs of each landed on her.

"J-Just leave me alone, Narissa."

"Oooops, I am so sorry, Hurta. I'm just so clumsy today, well. At least I'm not a fugly stupid piece of meat." She giggled, a chorus of giggles coming from the tables around her, especially the one where the rest of her sorority sisters sat, devious grins on their faces as they watched their leader.

"I-I said leave me alone!" Herta stood up now, tears welling up in her eyes as her faced curled in anger. The vixen seemed a bit shocked, but quickly the expression of surprise morphed into a devilish grin.

"Oh Hurta, you think I'm afraid of you, a stupid mouse? I eat mice. Though a dyke like you probably tastes more like fish!"

The mouse could feel the salty bitter tears running freely down her face now as she sniffled, trembling a bit as she clenched her fist. She went for a strike in the spur of the moment, this bully having broken her from her pleasant state once more.

"I said st-ooo--" She lunged forward only to fall flat on her face, tripped by the vixen who had moved out of the way.

"Oooooh, someone still doesn't know their place gals."

Narissa stepped onto the mouse's rump, making sure to dig her heels into Herta's flesh.

"Looks like I'll have to teach you again...maybe a few more bruises will help it sink in?"

She put her full weight down now, making the mouse cry out in pain, struggling to get up and only giving a show to the tables around her at the sorry display.

"Enough! Narissa, off of her, now! Or do you want me to call in my gang. We ain't afraid of your daddy like 'everyone else." A voice rang out across the cafeteria room, a rat walked forward dressed in a thuggish and ragged manner. A chunk was missing from his ear and he had more metal on his face than on his overdone wardrobe.

Narissa stepped off of Herta, sneering at this new person. Herta hadn't met them before, though she'd seen him around. He didn't even look like a student, but, here he was. He walked up to her vixen tormenter now, letting out a rattish hiss at the vixen as she backed away and went back to her table. Hateful stares falling on the two as the rat boy held out a hand to help Herta up.

"Hey, are you alright? My name is Jay."

"Y-yeah....I-I'm fine.....th-thank you, Jay. My name is Herta." The mouse picked up her glasses and cleaned them off before putting them back on.

"No problem, I'm more than happy to help out a fellow rodent....Herta? That is a really pretty name. Hey, I have to get going, but if you need any more help...just give me a call. Me and my boys and gals will be more than happy to. "

Herta nodded as she grabbed a scrap of paper the guy was shoving at her, a greasy recipe with a number scribbled onto the back. Before she could ask any more questions he was already half way across the room, leaving her alone with the still hateful stares of all those around her burning at her sullied clothes. She quickly picked up her belongings and left.

Much to Herta's relief, the next few days didn't seem as bad. Hope swelling within her as the day of the dance finally came. This was going to be the day. She wanted to propose to Jodie at the dance. It was going to be the perfect night.

She quickly dressed in her uniform, nothing fancy, but the best clothes she owned with how much going to school took out of her. She put on makeup, tried to make herself look nice, for Jodie. Finally she spent what money she could on a ride, something fancy, at least as fancy as she could afford. On the entire ride to the school, she could herself getting more bubbly, more excited. The small box in her pocket holding the gift she wanted to give to her lover digging itself into her flesh just enough to remind her of why she was so excited and nervous.

When she finally got there, sure enough her date was waiting. Jodie looked absolutely amazing. She was wearing a flowing green dress that seemed to shimmer and sparkle in the dim light coming from the inside of the building. The vixen looked so gorgeous, even her hair was more done up than usual.

"J-Jodie...y-you look amazing, I-I....I don't know what to say." Herta stepped out of the car that had brought her there and ran up to the vixen, giving her a gently hug, her eyes fixed on Jodie's.

"Thank you, Hertie. That is really sweet of you to say, you look really beautiful too. Come on, let's get inside."

The vixen took Herta by the arm and dragged her inside and out onto the floor that had been cleared, couples dancing all around them.

"Come on, Hertie, dance with me!" The vixen started to dance along with the music, Herta following suit just seconds later, face red as she blushed. It wasn't long before she was starting to sweat too. She wanted to wait for the right moment, but...when?

They spent a long while dancing, and as the night drew on, Herta felt it was the best time to free that little box from her tight pocket. Stopping her dancing and putting a hand into her pocket she nervously tried get her lover's attention.

"H-hey Jodie, y-you've been really sweet to m--"

"Oh! They are about to announce best couple!"

Herta turned, hand leaving her pocket as she watched Narissa pull up to the podium, with a box. She sat it down and pulled a note off the top before adjusting the microphone.

"Hello guys and gals. It is with great pleasure that I announce tonight's 'best couple'. It would appear that tonight its....Jodie and....Herta!"

Mild applause came from the room, and some laughs too, though those were mostly drowned out. "Please, you two come on up to the stage."

"Come on!" Jodie pulled Herta once again, dragging her through the crowd and up on to the stage, all the lights shining on the two of them. All the people watching, and waiting.

The two turned to one another, the rest of the world seemed to melt away as Herta stared into those beautiful emerald eyes.

"J-Jodie...th-there is something I want tell you...."

"I need to tell you something too...." The two drew in close to one another, Herta felt her heart racing.

"W-what is it?" Herta felt the vixen's warm breath over her as Jodie moved her mouth to the mouse's large ear.

"Surprise!" A voice rang out from behind as Herta felt claws dig into her hip and leg. Her clothes fell away in tatters with a few more swipes before she could even react. Her blush grew harder, her mind and heart going as fast as they could now as she backed away, almost stumbling as she went to cover herself, both Jodie and Narissa stood off to the side, leaving Herta to face the crowd that was now in an uproar over seeing her chubby nude body.

By the time she recovered enough to talk she was in tears, her perfect night ruined. Her gaze turned to Jodie, who was also laughing, and Narissa close by who was almost in tears from how much she was enjoying this.

"H-How could you, J-Jodie, I-I, P-please stop laughing...."

"What? Sorry, 'Hertie' I have to say....I never gave a shit about you. I'm so glad I don't have to pretend to be your girlfriend anymore, you cunt-eating dyke!"

Herta was choking on her tears now as she curled up even more, still trying to cover herself, disbelief and confusion fogging her mind as her vision started to blur.

"I-I don't und-understand, I-I thought....all th-those months...."

"Yeah, a stupid mouse like you wouldn't get it. I was playing you, understand? I wanted to ruin your pathetic life. Mice like you don't deserve to be happy!"

The mouse collapsed in tears, barely trying to cover herself now, clothes in front of her in tatters, and the box hanging open on the floor with a few claw marks across it.

"What is this? Awwws, Jodie, she wanted to propose to you! Look, a ring!"

Herta looked up briefly to see Jodie laughing, watching as Narissa held up the simple golden ring before tossing it into a trashcan nearby. It was the final straw, Herta stood up and rushed out of the building, tears streaming down her face, blood oozing from the scratches on her.

Once she was finally home she curled up on her bed crying for hours before finally getting her mind clear enough to remember Jay, and his words. Trying to stop her sobbing she picked up the phone, clutching the grease-stained receipt in her hand.

"Y-yeah...J-Jay? I-I need to talk..."

The End.
