Dorothy enters the old warehouse where her new friend Sara lives and works out of. She finds Sara's jeep she has been working on for the last couple weeks jacked up. The engine of the vehicle lies in several pieces on a make shift work bench.

"Sara, you here?" Dorothy calls out getting an echo from the large warehouse. She waits for an answer but none comes so she gingerly climbs the rickety stairs to the apartment, of sort, that over looks the warehouse floor.

The black and white dog enters the apartment and looks around finding an open pasta can sitting on the counter with a fork in it. Dorothy tosses the empty can into a trash bin that is filled with other cans and the fork in a tub with other unwashed dishes. As she continues her walk around the dingy apartment she sees something that she had not noticed in previous visits. They are dog tags from a military unity and they are hanging in a some what place of honor.

Dorothy takes the dog tags and begins looking at them in her hand. She knows so little about her new friend as Sara has yet to open up to her. She wants to invite her to her family's home for a holiday dinner. Dorothy just hopes that Sara will go as she could use some help deflecting her parent's questions about her life. Now she just has to hope that Sara does not already have plans to be with her family.

Dorothy hears the large roll up doors open which can only mean that Sara has returned. She looks down to the warehouse floor and sees Sara pulling in with her beat up truck. Black smoke is coming from under the hood of the truck as the vehicle comes to a stop.

Sara gets out and begins swearing every profanity that Dorothy has ever heard and some she believes that Sara has made up. Dorothy lays her backpack on a table and goes out to the stairs.

"Hey Sara," Dorothy shouts down to her.

Sara looks to the top of the stairs her hands on her hips, as she is so angry with this heap of junk truck. She sees Dorothy and smiles slightly. For the first time that she can remember Dorothy is someone who makes her smile. Sara waves to the Dalmatian as she descends the rickety stairs. Dorothy comes racing over to her friend and is about to embrace her in a hug when Sara stops her.

"You better not," Sara says "I'm covered in grease."

Dorothy looks at Sara in her old coveralls finding them covered in grease and oil stains from Sara working on the two vehicles trying to get at least one of them working properly. Dorothy smiles and ignores Sara's warning and goes ahead and hugs her friend. When she pulls away she is now covered in stains of grease as well.

Sara begins laughing softly "you are an odd ball," she says.

Dorothy just smiles back at her.

The two of them have returned to Sara's make shift apartment. Sara has pulled off her coveralls dropping them on the floor. Dorothy goes to put the dirty coveralls in a laundry basket when she sees that Sara has not stopped removing her clothing. She watches as Sara pulls her used to be white tank top over her head catching a brief glance of Sara's unsupported breast and so Dorothy quickly turns away from the nearly nude cat blushing.

"I have something I wanted to ask you," Dorothy asks trying not to let Sara know how embarrassed she is.

"Oh, and what might that be," Sara says digging threw a pile of clothes for something to wear that is cleaner than what she just took off.

"Well the holidays are coming up," Dorothy begins which gets an acknowledging grunt from Sara. "Yes, um, you see," she stammers.

Sara turns around and places her hands on her hips trying to figure out what Dorothy is trying to tell her finding has her back turned to her as she is squirming slightly.

"Out with it already," Sara says.

Dorothy turns around to find Sara standing in front of her only in her panties. The white and black spotted dog suddenly adds a deep shade of red as she blushes.

Sara stares at the blushing dog trying to figure out why she is turning such a deep color of red. When she figures it out and with an odd nod of her head Sara grabs a camisole and pulls it on. "It's not like you don't have them your self," Sara says.

Dorothy looks up and feels a little better. She grew up in a family of all boys, with the exception of her ma, and she's never had any close female friends. However it is how firm and large Sara's breast are, compared to her own, that she finds so embarrassing.

"Better," Sara says.

"Yes," Dorothy responds and catches her breath so that she can recover from her embarrassment. "What was I saying?" she then adds.

"Something about the coming holiday."

"Oh yea, my family is having a get together," Dorothy finally says glad to have something to talk about.

"I thought you told me about how you do not get along with your family," Sara says taking a chair and spinning it around so that she can lean on the backrest.

"It's a little more complicated than that."

"Uh-hu," Sara says sarcastically.

"Well it is," Dorothy retorts with a pout.

"Ok, explain it," Sara says while grinning.

"Well, as I have told you I really like computers. They seam to come as nature as breathing," Dorothy begins telling Sara.

"Yes, I know," Sara says looking over to her laptop computer that Dorothy fixed.

"Well my family comes from a long line of firefighters," she tells Sara. "My father is a firefighter, my aunt is a firefighter, my two older brothers are firefighters, my youngest brother is a trainee and my grandfather is the chief firefighter of New Furtain."

"You aren't kidding," Sara says now sitting up and rocking on to the back legs of the chair. "So you're the black sheep."

"Yea, any way I was hoping that if you came along my family might behave," Dorothy says softly.

"Hmm," Sara says getting up and walking to the makeshift water closet.

Dorothy is not sure how to take that. She goes over to her backpack and removes the invitation she got in the mail. She opens it up and reads it once again. Dorothy has been incommunicado with her family for a while. It is not that she has any problems with her family. It is just them constantly wanting her, as her father says it, "put those silly computer machines out of her life and join the family business and become a firefighter." She lets out a deep sigh looking at the front of the invitation of a drawn Dalmatian dog sitting in front of a firehouse. Dorothy sometimes finds it hard to love her family.

Sara looks into the mirror staring at her self in the reflection. She has no memory of family and wonders what her parents wanted from her. She turns on the faucet and the pipes rattle as water comes out. She splashes water into her face then looks at her reflection again. Sara comes out of the water closet and looks at the back of her friend. She sighs rubs the bridge of her muzzle while shaking her head. "Alright," Sara says.

Dorothy looks to her friend seeing Sara rubbing the bridge of her muzzle, eyes closed. She rushes over and hugs Sara in pure delight.

Sara and Dorothy are standing in front of Dorothy's parents' home. The chatter of people talking comes from the house.

"This is a bad idea," Dorothy says nervously.

Sara turns to her friend who looks as if she is going to be sick. "Are you going to be alright?" she asks.

"This is a bad idea, let's get out of here," Dorothy says turning away from the house and making to go to Sara's jeep when someone calls out to her.

"Dorothy?" the person says from the porch.

Dorothy turns and sees that her mother is standing in the doorway. "Hello mom," she says after a second.

"My goodness you've cut your hair," Dorothy's mother says coming off the porch and proceeds to hug her only daughter. The older woman then looks at Sara. "And who might you be?" she asks pleasantly.

"Mom, this is my good friend Sara," Dorothy says.

The elder woman looks Sara over several times before saying anything. "Well hello Sara," she says finally.

"Hello ma'am," Sara says back.

Dorothy's mom takes another few seconds checking Sara over once again before, suddenly, embracing Sara in a surprisingly tight hug.

Dorothy's mother is heavy set Dalmatian with one spot that cover her right eye thus giving her the look of a pirate with an eye patch. She is extremely friendly and a fantastic cook.

"Come, come," she says ushering Dorothy, reluctantly, and Sara into the house. "Everyone is here," Dorothy's mother adds

"EVERYONE!" Dorothy says with a frightful gulp.

"Yes, everyone," Dorothy's mother answers with a cheerful smile.

When Sara enters the house it is filled with a dozen or so Dalmatians causing her to rub her eyes from seeing so many spots. She nervously looks around and finds several other canines including Labs, Golden Retrievers and a couple German Shepard. Sara gets a prickly feeling as the fur on her neck begins to stand on end. Out of a natural reaction she reaches for trusty hand gun tucked into the small of her back. That is until she sees the golden mane of a Lion enter the room. She recognizes him, as would anyone who lives in New Furtain, the mayor.

"Hey everyone," Dorothy's mother shouts out grabbing everyone's attention.

"Oh no," Dorothy says embarrassed covering her face with her hands.

"Look who showed up."

Now everyone is looking at Dorothy and Sara. Dorothy blushes from embarrassment.

"My daughter Dorothy," the woman continues announcing causing Dorothy to turn crimson red "and her friend Sara."

Several Dalmatians surround Dorothy. "How have you been doing little sis?" one ask.

"What have you been doing?" another asks.

Dorothy is inundated by questions from her brothers then a large strong man comes to the front of the pack to stand before Dorothy and the room becomes silent.

"Hello dad," Dorothy says softly.

Dorothy's father looks his only daughter over then to Sara. Sara gives the man a Cheshire cat grin and he turns back to his daughter. "So this is who you are spending your time with," he says convicting.

Dorothy gulps and nods her head yes as she is so intimidated by him.

"Hmm," he says and as he scans Sara unsure of her. "And what do you do?" he asks Sara.

"I fix things," Sara says.

Dorothy looks at her friend as Sara is staring at her father, who is taller than Sara, each waiting for one of them to break. Dorothy decides that she will break the silence before something happens.

"So, dad how is everything at the firehouse?" she asks.

Her father looks to her and smiles. "Everything is going fine," he says and hugs her. "And how is working at a dinner?" he asks sounding continence.

"I don't work at the dinner anymore," Dorothy says.

Her father gives her a disappointed look but he can't say anything as Dorothy's mother breaks in and the conversations in the house returns to normal as Furries return to chatting with one another. The house is soon filled with dozens of different conversations.

Sara moves away from Dorothy and her family in search of a beer. She finds a large tube filled with different ales. She opens one and takes a chug of the beer calming her nervous.

"You alright," comes a deep heavy voice behind Sara.

Sara turns finding the mayor standing next to her. She wonders how such a large Furry got so close to her with out realizing he was there. "Hello you honor," Sara says.

"So you know who I am," he says with a wide lion grin that might have intimidated any Human.

"I don't believe there is a Furry in New Furtain who does not know you, your honor," Sara says politely.

The mayor lets out a deep loud laugh. "You are probably right," he says. "So you're friends with Dorothy?" he then asks.

Sara nods an affirmative.

"So how did the two of you meet?"

Sara thinks back to when she eliminated the two rapist that where about to rape Dorothy and how the Dalmatian then passed out (see case #0000 for further info). "I sort of ran into her," she says.

"Uh-hu," the mayor says one eye brow arched.

"So how do you know Dorothy's family?" Sara asks taking a swig of the beer and hoping to change the conversation away from her self.

"Her grandfather and I are old friends," he says sipping something red from a wine glass.

After several minutes of questions from Dorothy's elder brothers, many of which she did not like trying to answer, she is able to slide away and make her way to a long table with food on it. She picks at the appetizers and chips not really feeling hungry. Actually her stomach feels as though it is in knots though, it has gotten a little less twisted since she got over the initial shock of being home. She finds a soda in a cooler at the end of the table away from everyone else. Dorothy bends over digging threw the cooler hoping to find her favorite soda when some one slaps her on the butt. She slowly bends up as she hears a deep husky voice.

"So my dear, you decided to show up," the male voice says.

Dorothy turns finding her ex-boyfriend standing there with a huge grin. Her stomach tightens as she looks upon the Husky. "Hello Henry," Dorothy says feeling sick just being in the presences of this man.

"I knew you couldn't stay away from me," he says to Dorothy placing a hand on her shoulder while chugging down a beer from the other.

Dorothy looks to Henry's hand and then to the intoxicated man. She wonders who invited him and how he got past her father. Henry was a friend's with her older brother Mike however Dorothy thought the two of them had a falling out when she stopped seeing Henry. Dorothy takes his hand off her shoulder, lifting it so that she would have to touch it as little as possible.

Henry watches her removes his hand from her and dropping it to the side. He suddenly becomes furriest with her, slapping her hard across the face so that Dorothy's head snaps to one side.

Dorothy slowly turns back placing a hand on her sore face. She is stunned that he just did that and with her parents feet away. Henry grabs Dorothy's muzzle and forcible kisses her. Dorothy tries pushing him away but is to strong for her holding Dorothy tightly.

Sara sips her beer standing silently by the mayor watching the Furries chatting. She feels comfortable standing next to the large man in a house full of canines. She glances out a side door of the kitchen that leads to where the food is laid out and that is where she sees Dorothy digging threw a cooler. Sara smiles' seeing that her friend is doing alright as Dorothy was so nervous about visiting her family. Then a Husky comes up on Dorothy and begins bothering her friend. Sara reacts without even thinking going through the door way, leaping onto the table, doing a forward flip over Dorothy and grabbing the Husky so that Sara flips him over causing him land on his back with a crash. She pins him there while pulling her gun out and sticking it between his eyes causing him to go cross eyed looking at the weapon.

"I do not believe we have been introduced," Sara says sitting on his chest. The whole house goes silent. "My name is Sara Black and you owe my friend an apology," she adds.

Dorothy looks at her ex now laying on the floor her friend having pinned him down. His eyes dart from the gun to her as they plead with Dorothy.

"What is going on here?" Dorothy's father asks pushing his way through the surrounding Furries. The first thing he sees is the Cat that is his daughter's guest pointing a gun at one of his guest.

"It seams that this guy does know how to behave," Sara snarls.

Once Dorothy's father finally sees the guest lying on the floor he becomes quit angry. "Henry," he growls. "I thought I told you never to come around here." The elder firefighter says reaching down to grab Henry by the front of his shirt. "If you don't mind I'll take care of this know," he tells Sara.

Sara's finger twitches on the gun's trigger barely aware that of the Furries around her. She hears a load thumping sound and a distant voice yelling at her to pull the trigger. Her vision blurs slightly so she shakes her head to clear it. When Sara looks back she expects to see the Husky she is holding her gun on, instead she sees a Human. Scared Sara drops the gun and scuttles away from the Husky.

Everyone watches Sara move away from Henry oddly, considering how she took Henry down so easily. Dorothy's father lift the intoxicated man up and carries him out the front door.

Dorothy bends over her friend placing a hand on Sara's shoulder. "NO!" Sara shouts snapping at Dorothy before passing out. Dorothy looks around at her family and the family friends, her cheeks turn red from being embarrassed.

"Is their something wrong with your friend?" Dorothy's mother asks quit oblivious to the obvious incident that just occurred.

"Let's take her to the guest room," Dorothy's eldest brother says. He proceeds to pick Sara up to take the unconscious Cat to the guest room with Dorothy following her brother.

"Now that was odd," Dorothy's mother says. She gets several nods of agreement from the other guest.

"Very odd woman," another guest says.

"What do you expect from Dorothy," says another guest.

Dorothy's younger brother seams to be the only one to have noticed that his sister's friend tossed a gun beneath the coach. He goes to the coach and retrieves the odd feeling weapon. He looks to his mother finding her with several guests standing around her.

"So what are you planning to do with that?" a deep voice asks.

Dorothy's younger brother turns to the man speaking to him. "Your honor," he says finding the mayor standing next to him. "I...I..." he stutters.

The mayor places a large hand on the young firefighter trainee. "Let me handle it," he says taking the weapon and placing the gun into his coat pocket and walks toward the guest room.

Dorothy watches her strong brother lay her friend down on the bed. She then sees him, either by purpose or by accident, run his hand across Sara's breast. Dorothy slaps her brother across the back if the head.

"Hey," he says rubbing the spot she hit him giving his little sister a confused look while leaving Dorothy to be alone with her friend.

"How is she?" Dorothy's grandfather's old friend asks from behind her.

"I am not sure," Dorothy says sitting down on the bed next to her friend. She gently places a hand on Sara's arm before looking tot the mayor. "What happened back there?" she asks him.

The mayor pulls Sara gun from his pocket and begins examining it. The weapon is extremely well maintained he recognizes the emblem on the weapons grip. He places it on the night stand.

"When she wakes tell her to come visit me if she ever needs someone to talk to," the mayor says handing Dorothy his business card before leaving with out answering Dorothy's question.

Dorothy looks at the card a little confused. "I wonder why the mayor would have a need to see Sara," she says softly.

Sara moans slightly redirecting Dorothy's attention to her friend. She puts the business card on the night stand and does her best to make her friend as comfortable as best she can.

Sara wakes startled and nervously takes in her surroundings having no idea where she is. She looks out a window finding that it is dark out. Sara tosses the blanket that covered her off and swings her feet to the side of the bed. As she begins standing her head begins to swim making the Cat feel off balance with the disorientation. Slowly Sara's memories begin returning to her as she remembers going with Dorothy to her parent's home for a potluck holiday dinner.

Sara can smell the remnants of ham, turkey, and baked pies. She goes to the closed door and reaches out for the door handle. When she realizes that she does not feel her gun. She looks around finding the weapon on the night stand. She nervously retrieves the weapon, do to her last memory is holding the gun to the forehead of a Husky. 'Did I pull the trigger?' Sara questions herself. 'I'm not in jail,' she tries reasoning. It is only when she ejects the clip and finds it full with one bullet in the chamber that she feels relieved. She puts the weapon into the small of small of her back and walks out room relieved. She hears cheering of men watching a sporting event from down stairs and the clinking of dishes being washed from the kitchen. She goes to the kitchen doorway finding Dorothy and her mother cleaning dishes. Sara smiles at this domestic scene do to her not having any of these memories of cleaning dishes with her mother.

Dorothy catches her friend's reflection in the window above the sink and turns. "You're awake," she says with a smile.

"Yea, sorry about that," Sara says embarrassed for sleeping through dinner.

Dorothy's mother turns to find her daughter's friend standing there. "You must be hungry," the woman says with a heart warming smile.

"No, I'm fine," Sara responds but her stomach disagrees and rumbles.

"Nonsense let me put together a plate for you," Dorothy's mother says pulling food out of the fridge and builds a plate of food for the hungry cat.

Sara goes over to Dorothy. "I'm sorry about what happened," she says softly.

"That's no big deal," Dorothy says blushing. "You where the main subject over dinner and not me for once."

Epilogue

Sara sat down and ate the leftovers as her friend recounted what happened at dinner. Though Sara is quite embarrassed over her loosing control she is pleased that her friend had a semi pleasant meal with her family.
