Unfortunate Fortunes

by foxgloves

january 6th 2010.

Aden, an 11 year old boy almbled down the steep slope of the ravine. It was winter, the place was deadened and filled with debris and fallen leaves. A crisp breeze blew through Aden's hair, causing him to shiver though his thin sweatshirt. Aden was a good kid, but so far that couldn't be said the same for his life. The words of his parents still echoed in his head...

"Get the FUCK out of my house you twofaced cheating whore!"

"well Jerry maybe if you were'n't such a drunk asshole i'd actually sleep with you!!"

_"please don't yell daddy"

"Aden, i do not have time to deal with you right now, could you just run along"

"-But.. dad you promised to take me to the store to get me a new bike!"

"i said knocK IT OFF ADEN..... ..Aden, daddy is sorry, he didn't mean to yell"_

"Don't you DARE talk to your son that way.. wait Aden come back! wait!"

Thats when he had decided it was time to leave, since then he'd been wandering the streets endlessly, looking for somewhere to go but nowhere in particular.. He soon came to a clearing at the bottom of the ravine..up ahead he saw something strange..

A black mountain bike lay up ahead, sleek and black..and untouched. Aden aproached the bike cautiously, looking it over and found a small note attached to it

"To whoever reads this

i'd like you to know this bike now belongs to you, i wont have much purpose for it where i'm going anyway.

all i ask is that you ride it with love and passion

ps. sorry about the blood on the handlebars, but theres no point worrying because i'll be long gone by the time you read this.

signed, Issos

This was what he wanted, a new bike but he didn't want it to happen like this. Aden didn't know if he should cry, run or mourn until he noticed, the blood on the handlebars was still fresh. He put on his brave face and decided that the least he could do for the owner is to see if he could help, so he cautiously made his way down to the slim rivers edge where the leaves had been disturbed up along the way. Then he saw it, there in the reeds in the river shallows lay a body of a teenager. He was the most beautiful wolf Aden had ever seen, his dark silvery fur washed around in the water, he was wearing a simple pair of blue jeans and a black leather jacket that was soaked in blood and water.

"Sir... Issos?" he called out softly

The wolf turned his head and saw Aden, and smiled weakly

"Hello, boy whats your name?' said Issos coughing violently

"my name is Aden, is there anything i can do to help?" said Aden, now kneeling in the water beside Issos

"ah, no.. no need to worry about me.. just go enjoy the bike" said Issos clutching his side and grimacing, then turning back to look at Aden.

"but.. your dying, i should help you!" said

"silly coon" said Issos ignoring Aden's question and scratching him behind his ears, which were completly layed back on his head

Issos continued talking "You seem like a good kid, don't let the world get to you" Issos started coughing violently again, getting weaker by the minute.

Issos pulled Aden close and whispered in his ear "i'll be going now.." and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek and began to drift away into the water

"NO WAIT.. I CAN GET YOU HELP... don't leave please don't leave.." Aden said as big tears began to well up in his eyes

Aden rushed into the water after him, struggling to pull him back to shore

"why... why?" asked Issos

"please just wait" cried Aden "i'm going to go get you help.. i'll be back just wait"

And with that he ran back towards where he came, leaving Issos waiting on the shore.

Aden was filled with a sense of purpose he had never felt before.. and then it hit him, It wasn't a new bike he needed, it was friendship.

"earlier this evening a young boy, Aden age 11 rescued a young wolf from certain death. The young man who's name is not yet being released is in critical condition but is respected to make a full recovery, if it where not for Aden's bravery and will the young man would not be here today...."
