#1 of The White Horizon
The White Horizon takes place in the near future when snow has covered the earth killing most and leaving the survivors to walk the endless snowfields. This is the story of one group of survivors.
The Characters
Finn:
Species: Border Collie
Age: 23
Summary: Finn is still dealing with the grief of his boyfriend, Nick, dying in the snow. He also didn't have a good relationship with his family after he was outed to them by his sister. Finn tries to find rays of hope and happiness, but sometimes comes across as a nonchalant pessimist in most of the novel. He feels responsible for his boyfriend's death and feels guilt that he is attracted to Kiah. Finn is the protagonist of the novel.
Clay:
Species: Coyote
Age: 28
Summary: Clay feels like he was made for the snowy apocalypse. He thrives in it. He also has romantic feelings for his fellow group member, Lakota. He is the leader of the group, and he knew Finn before the long winter. Clay comes across as a good leader who tries to stay positive while also balancing the lives of his group. Despite all his good attributes, he can be impulsive/angry at times and was raised by an abusive father. He also may have a hidden agenda.
Lakota:
Species: Wolf
Age: 32
Summary: Lakota is older, serious, cautious, and compassionate. She has an almost motherly relationship with Finn and keeps Kiah and Pan in check. She has no idea that Clay loves her. She usually sports a hooded coat, which helps her from disappearing in the snow due to her white fur. She lost both her cubs and husband to the winter
Kiah:
Species: Otter
Age: 18
Summary: Kiah is the youngest of the group and was a junior in Finn's neighboring high school. He is friendly with the entire group and tries to be funny. Deep down he feels terrible about the long winter, and other people's laughter is his way of coping. He has to wear extra layers of warmth, due to his thinner fur. He has no idea of Finn's crush on him
Pan:
Species: Ermine
Age: 22
Summary: Pan is the second youngest of the group and is by far the most quietest unless he's talking with Kiah or about anything scientific. He seems like an enigma to the rest of his group members. He used to be an IT manager for a company before the long winter, and hopes to find a radio or device he can use to see if anyone else survived. He is very attached to Kiah.

In the near future...
It's all gone now. What's left of the world, what's left of our families, our friends, and our lovers. It's all been covered by this endless winter. For the first week or so, the world went on as normal until the snow didn't stop. Soon weeks turned into months and months turned into what seemed like years. The world descended into chaos, but oddly enough it didn't affect me. I had Nick to help get me through it. We walked what we called the White Horizon on our own for a few months alone together, not seeing a single soul.
Then after about three months on our own we found another group. Their leader, Clay, was one of the students at my high school and we had talked before. We quickly joined up with Clay's group. Now we walk the White Horizon waiting for a sign of hope, just surviving day to day in this endless winter.
