Gods

Leo was working steadily, studying various animals and their numerous advantages and abilities. He was constantly extracting all sorts of DNA and combining them with his own. He was always switching back and forth between analyzing percentages of the same advantages he had looked over earlier as compared to the mix batch, and he didn't stop until he reached 100%.

The only way to test it would be to inject himself. If it doesn't work, all of the data was stored in the computer. He had also stored a hard copy in the file cabinet. If it did work, even if there were problems with the final results, then he would've ridden the world of many infections and the resulting deaths of those infections. Cancer would be gone; all matter of diseases would be gone. The every fiber of human existence would be raised to the highest level possible. They would be gods.

Leo was always selfish, and in that characteristic, it was his downfall. He injected himself full of the "vaccine" and waited for a result. A twitch, small enough to not notice until second glance, but it soon became occident enough to notice easily. He started to grow hair on all parts of his body, he noticed a tail forming and quickly stood up. This wasn't supposed to happen, he wasn't supposed to change form. He felt his bones shifting throughout his body and his vision became glazed over with red. He felt everything stop, finally, and walked over to the mirror.

Blinking his eyes a bit, and looking through the glass, he saw a rat staring back. He jumped at his own looks and put a hand over his face. "No, this isn't happening. No!"

He looked back, and there he was still. He started to run out of the house and made it outside, and then he fainted.

When he woke he found, to his bad fortune, that the lab he was in wasn't his and the door was locked. As he jiggled the knob, a voice clear as day rang through it.

"Go away, whatever you are! Give me Leo back!"

"It is Leo, I am Leo!"

"Leo? Leo, you sound different, raspier!"

"What do you expect, I've turned into a giant rat!"

"How did this all happen?"

"Calm down, I'll explain."

Sean was never the lucky guy. He had never been to a party and had never had a girlfriend. He had always been the "nerd" and couldn't seem to get any more respect from his peers no matter what he tried. He had never given up though. He had retained his high grades and always fought for the right side. He didn't ever know what he was doing wrong, and he wasn't ever wrong, it was just the fact that he was doing it. The only thing Sean ever had going for him was his bright orange hair, which might seem like a terrible thing to others, but was a godsend to him.

"Blood sugar, damn! I think I might need some insulin." Sean stifled a laugh and moved for the lab fridge.

"The clear one, that's it." He picked up the bottle and drew out the liquid inside. He tapped the syringe to remove bubbles, and quickly injected himself in the spot he had a million times, only this time, it wasn't insulin.

He noticed a twitch, and then he started spasming. He grew hair on every last inch of his skin, he grew a tail. He noticed that all over things began to move and change, his hands turned into paws, and his legs went backwards. He gasped for breath, and when he finally got it, padded over to the mirror to see what had happened.

Standing there, looking back at Sean, was a bipedal fox, and every hair on its body was the same bright orange that Sean had always known. Sean was checked at the hospital for wounds that had occurred during the morphing process, but there were no wounds found. The only thing anybody found was that he was no longer diabetic.

Eventually the word got out that these creatures weren't insane killers but indeed humans. High-ups got the opportunity to inject them, and most did. A lot turned into ugly beings like Leo, but some turned into beautiful ones like Sean. Eventually, some people started having sex with these "furs". In time, there was no reason to be a human. All people were taking the vaccine because they had fatal illnesses. Then, as if by god's hand himself, everybody was a fur.

Normal rituals changed, of course, because of their resistance to things. Flying was a new sport that wasn't dominated by pilots, but rather winged creatures such as griffons and dragons, that started appearing in "cross-breeds." Sex, or "yiffing," as it was now called, became almost instantly popular as an regular activity, rather than a loving engagement between two people. The human side of them was still bigoted enough to wage wars against opposite fur-types, and there was still a giant homosexual debate.

In all of this, nobody had become god, because there were still people who just wanted to take advantage of others, no matter what affliction either party had. We became civilized eventually, some still practiced yiffing so much they could barely keep their balls from swelling to the size of coconuts, and some still would kill people for being a different breed of animal than them, but most just became civilized like the humans before them, and everything was "normal" again.

Chilling insight, eh? This one had no yiffing, but I guess that'll have to wait until I can decide which of the characters to promote further into storytelling.
