The Modern Era Chp. 2 The New Unknown.
"Insanity? Why is he going insane?" Lego looked around again the two sheps on the move discretely trying. "You were supposed to arrive a month ago; we feared the worse, he started inspecting all the gsheps thinking each one was you but... That didn't go very well.... After a while things started getting out of hand thinking someone kidnapped you or worse died.
"Well I'm here now why not just go straight to him?" Lego was down a darkened less used path finally recognizing the area ad sighed softly. It was the forest again. The same forest where he isolated himself for years when he needed to learn control. A place of bitter memories and a burned past. "What are we doing here?"
Lego didn't want to have anything to do with this place again. Going through the forest made his fur bristle puffing up standing on edge. Here, he felt more alert and cautious. The forest seemed safer than from the time he originally came here. When Lego first arrived, his body was engulfed in a black smoke, it was the first time he discovered he had a secondary power then ice. This was before meeting Alecia as well. Lego wiggled his head thinking of fun and bitter thoughts at the same time was confusing.
Shortly after Lego's eyes widened and ears perked. Just where was his wife and cub? "Hey Zen where Alecia and Lican?"
The other Tescorosso stopped short and stayed still for a moment. Lego tensed vaguely remembering another thing about the forest as he watched his "brother" still. "Lego, we thought they were with you... If they were blown out before you arrived they may have bene captured beforehand or they could be a few days ahead of us. Which means if we do meet up with them they are already safe. Time travel is weird like that so don't worry too-" The Tescorosso was lifted by his legs and hoisted into the air suddenly causing Lego to jump back in surprise suddenly remember what else was wrong with the forest.
The forest had a habit of playing games with people.
"Let's play a game little sheps. See if you can survive the night entwined in our maze of trees and fog. See if you can protect yourself from things that go bump in the night." Lego cursed himself and reached for dagger then cursed again remembering that his gear was under his chair. Lego jumped back in shock blocking a sudden branch with the side of his gauntlet.
"The brown one has been here before." Said a 2nd voice
"Yes, yes! Many many years ago..." The first voice said confirming the other.
"You may have won before but you won't escape this time." A 3rd voice perked up.
"We guarantee it. After all, that darkness left you and gave us strength." Said the first voice again.
"That's right we gained many new powers." Added the 2nd.
"Oh, so many new victims! We have been waiting a very long time in hopes you who got away would come back to us!" sounded the 3rd.
Lego froze in fear. He knew exactly where they were, in the heart of the forest where it all began. It was the forest he moved out of and found himself in front of Alecia. Alecia! Where was she? It donned on the Tescorosso he was searching for his family, before he could move one of the other branches came from under him coiling around the shep's legs yanking him up along with Zen.
"Zenith what the hell did you not remember what this place was?!" Lego flipped his wrist instinctively and started stabbing at the trees hand trying to free himself, the Tescorosso cursed wishing he had not left his sword. Zenith could only return muffled barks as the branches that made the fingers covered the pups' maw.
Lego looks up at the trees looking for where the shadows casted a face muttering the only fire incantation he knew. The tree holding Zen shuddered as a flash of light and some heat appeared in front of its face dropping the young Tescorosso. Zen gasped for air as he rolled back to get away from the more imminent danger gasping once again as the way they came was shut off by more trees. "It seems were surrounded my lord!"
"Yes, that's what they do now were stuck in their maze! Foul bark let me go so we can play your perverted game right!" Lego kept stabbing at the tree trying to get it to release him growling at being trapped.
"Game? You attempt to deceive us again?"
"You escaped once, you won't escape again!"
"Yes, you won't escape this time but he is right, we shall play the game you want so badly but we shall double the stakes!"
Lego fell to the ground with a grunt picking himself up getting into a defensive pose quickly rolling over to where Zen was. The next thing Lego could remember was being on the ground again. Zen was being held by a tiny wood golem slowly crushing the Tescorossos' chest cavity. "What are you doing?!"
"A slow death, a painful death, a timed death." The trees would chant with cackles. "The pup out of time must beat time again to save his friend! Find the exit before the final crack and save 2 lives with 1 bind!"
Lego growled more holding back the urge to bark inspecting the golem as they walked through the maze of ever changing trees, he counted his steps watching closely to see how many steps it took before another squeeze onto Zen. Lego was surprised at how calm the other Tescorosso was during this time, Lego perked up seeing the exit using the one spell he knew repeatedly, to create a wall to try to keep the opening up. Lego gasped once he heard a bark and yelp looking back to Zen seeing the golem heat up.
"No tricks this time! As all things in life what is given is returned! Your gifts will be given back to you twice as strong but not to you, to your friend trapped!" The trees cackled once again as Lego killed the flames ears drooping a bit as the exit moves farther away. Lego then growled and started rushing towards the exit turning to look to see if the golem would follow but skids to a stop seeing it having planted into the ground.
"Oh dear, it seems someone is too late..."
"Indeed, I do believe we have won this time."
"Here come the fireworks!" The trees cackled and shook more making Lego growl louder rushing towards Zen checking him first to make sure he was still conscious before inspecting and feeling the gnome around "looking" for anything he could use to his advantage, but he found nothing. Lego flicked out his hidden blades again first putting zen to sleep with pressure points and started to cover the bark with ice giving one quick slam of the gauntlet and blade with an echoing crack of an explosion. The surrounding area between the trees and the Tescorossi became thick with smoke.
