Re-wrote this little piece I've had in my drafts for some years now. Inspiration struck me randomly from two pictures and I threw together a tale of two characters sorting out arrangements after breaking up. Hope y'all enjoy it

A stiffening silence bolstered the air, neither male could quite find the words to try and lighten the mood. Sitting across from another; Pyke: a tall, muscular, yellow Dragon/Shark hybrid, staring down Jaughs: a shorter, feminine figured, baby blue furred dragon. Pyke's half lidded eyes fell onto a reserved Jaughs. His webbed fingers tapped against the head of the armrest on the recliner he was in.

This planned meeting had gone uneventful so far. From the moment Pyke had answered the phone earlier in the morning, he figured there would be some quiet moments between them. Answering the door went smoothly but as soon as they took their seats, a perpetual silence commanded the room. Jaughs sat on the couch in a sheltered manner, more closed off then usual. His palms gripped tightly at edge of the shorts just at his thighs, arms stiff and eyes at his knees. Jaughs' long floppy ears rested on his shoulders and drooped down to his upper arms. He seemed to be preoccupied in his thoughts, but Pyke started growing an impatience with the silence.

A hefty sigh fell from the hybrid, Jaughs glanced up at him. Pyke rose from the seat without a word and walked over to the couch. The muddled thumps of his heavy feet displaced the silence lying in the room before a cushioned plop returned the atmosphere. The couch sank to the left now, Pyke rested his right arm across the banister of the sofa and glanced at the smaller dragon with small grin. The gravity pulled Jaughs in, a few moments after Pyke joining him on the couch and he found himself inched over to the larger male and leaning against his right pectoral.

Jaughs still had yet to look up at him. He gripped at his right elbow and felt his face grow a familiar warmth. Pyke brought his arm around Jaughs, resting his large palm on Jaughs' flat chest. The lighter dragon opened his mouth letting out a gentle gasp. His cheeks now had a mildly uncomfortable sting. He pupils fell onto Pyke's shirt, slowly trailing up to land on his face. The shark hybrid's warm smile invited him to lean in closer. That same smile that always beckoned for a kiss. Jaughs had leaned closer and rose up, stopping himself with a mild shudder as he realized what he was doing. It was for the best that they didn't kiss, that much they both knew.

There was a hint of disappointment on Pyke's face seeing Jaughs hesitate and shrink away, but he knew what would've happened if he had continued and that it was better this way. He let a deep exhale through his nostrils, tapping his fingers against the arm rest.

There they were again, in silence. Sitting by another without so much as a word spoken yet. Jaughs' attention drew back to his knees; the skin under his short blue fur on his face ruddy, his thoughts recounting when they grew apart. Pyke on the other hand looked off to the side; eyes unfocused, mind drifting and looping some of their fondest memories. They remained like that for some moments, Jaughs still comfortably leaned up against Pyke and him cradling Jaughs with an arm.

The lithe male gently rested his cheek against Pyke's bicep and brought his arms around the bulkier male's forearms. He let out a softened sigh, closing his eyes to dwell on Pyke's touch. He was always gentle with him, knew how to comfort him, and after a long day, he knew he could be held against him and all would be alright. Jaughs gave Pyke's forearm a gentle squeeze, catching the larger male's attention.

Half lidded eyes fell onto Jaughs. Pyke smiled watching his former partner, he always looked so cute whenever he was in his arms. The larger male brought him closer, gently rubbing at his chest. His pupils drifted downwards and a frown formed at the edges of his maw. Another sigh escaped him, his chest rising and falling. He returned the light squeeze and huffed under his breath.

As the two remained cuddled on the sofa, a realization hit them. Neither could deny that they were enjoying the other's company currently, despite what happened. The silence wasn't as deafening now, just mellow and pleasant.

Jaughs placed his hand against Pyke's and slowly maneuvered his legs atop the hybrid's thighs and slid himself onto his lap. The larger male allowed him space, re positioning his arm under Jaughs'. The light blue dragon wrapped his arms around Pyke's frame, laying his head against the male's chest and pressing against the pudge that made up his muscle gut. Pyke reciprocated, pulling Jaughs into him and and wrapping his other arm around the smaller male. A few moments passed, tightly embraced together. Still neither dragon having spoke a word.

That changed when Jaughs mumbled into Pyke's chest, making him gently pull away. "Hm?"

"Can.. can we go to the bedroom, please...?" Pyke gave a nod and removed an arm from around him, replacing it under his knees to carry him.

"Sure." Jaughs moved his arms, wrapping one around Pyke's neck and the other around his shoulder.

"..thanks..." Pyke carried him into the bedroom, sitting on the bed. Once set back down Jaughs re-positioned himself to the face larger male, spreading his legs apart and sitting in Pyke's lap. "I.. almost forgot how much I loved being-" He pressed against him, wrapping his arms tight around his frame and muffling his soft whimpering chuckle. The larger male brought his arms around Jaughs, resting one hand against the back of his head and the other against his back. Pyke cradled Jaugh's head against him and patted his back in an attempt to comfort him.

"It's al- I know.. I know..." He felt his shirt dampen where Jaughs' face was nestled. Pyke responded by gently rocking and patting him more to console him. "Let it out... just let it out..."

Pyke's words got through to him and the dampness grew into a wet spot from the increase in tears Jaughs shed. As the shark hybrid continued comforting the smaller male, he reminisced on fond memories of him comforting and consoling Jaughs and wiping away his tears. A smile spread across his face as he gazed down at Jaugh's teal hair. He silently gave a whimpering chuckle and found himself tearing up. Pyke closed his eyes and continued whimper-chuckling in silence.

Amidst Jaugh's muffled sobbing he felt a single teardrop fall onto his head and dampen his hair. He hesitated, slowly pulling away from his chest to look at him. Everything around them seemed to go still; Pyke the only one he was focused now. Throughout their time together, not once could Jaughs recall a single moment Pyke was in tears about anything. The feminine dragon raised a palm and gently cradled his cheek.

Pyke tilted his head into Jaugh's palm, slowly opening his teary eyes and staring back at the smaller blue dragon. The blue drake gave a sincere smile as tears steadily rolled down his furred cheeks. His head tilted downwards as he whispered aloud "I'm sorry..." He brung his face closer and pressed foreheads with Pyke wiping away his tears, finally returning the favor.

The yellow male was in partial disbelief at the moment, never imagining he'd see the day Jaughs would wipe away his tears. He raised his large palm against Jaughs opposite cheek, wiping away his tears with a thumb. "You don't have to apologize to me..."

The two continued embracing another, wiping away their tears as they came. A long moment creeped by before they found their eyes dry and the two resolved in stroking another's cheek. Slowly they pulled apart and focused their pupils at the other's.

"Pyke..."

"Jaughs..."
