Dusk (Dawn Alternate Ending)

Mediteral

Blood trickled from the gash on my head, my matted hair covered my blackened right eye. Blood trickled from my snout into my lips, blood was the only taste I knew then... Blood trickled from inside me, causing each drawn breath to be moment of stacking pain. When I cried, the tears mixed with the blood; my eyes themselves were blood shot....

My body body ached....My paw was definitely broken...maybe more was broken....I could hardly move as I was dragged to the cliff, outside Jeager's den. I only looked to the horizon...the sun setting along with my hopes....

His large hazel paw, seemingly crushed my neck; there was no struggle to be had in keeping me down. I was long beaten.

We stopped moving, I was rested on my side and I looked up to Jeager; him looking down to me...He was such powerful hazel scaled dragon...and I thought I could beat him...how foolish of me...

"...Idiot...despite what I've said..." The dominant dragon muttered

I looked up to him...."...W...what...??"

"...I didn't want things to happen this way...."

I nearly lost my breath.... "Then...why!? Why couldn't....you just give me Leena?"

"I told you...I needed her so the soldiers would stop chasing me...an escape plan...But I see that it isn't working out..." he shook his head.

"So you just killed her!!" I practically cried out. How could he have hit her like that...

"Calm down idiot....She'll be fine..." He raised an eyebrow...or as much as an eyebrow a scaly hazel dragon could have raised. He then looked away, taking a few steps in a type of deep thought.

I kept trying to move, was he serious about Leena? Would she be fine? I could only watch him for now...

He raised his head, like he just had some sort of revelation. He shimmied his way back to me, "I think there is no doubt....You're going to die if you stay like this!"

As if I couldn't be in anymore pain, I grew more fearful of my death...I refused to believe it...It couldn't end like this...I could already feel myself fading though...Tears streamed from my eyes, I felt numb...I wished for anything that I wasn't going to die...

"But..." Jeager muttered, "...I can save you...If you do as I say..."

I was all ears for him.

He sat on his haunches, looking down to me with a kind of regretful grin. "It may take awhile....especially with you in your state...But I assure you...I can bring you back home, I just want you to do one thing... Take the girl back to safety."

What could I say...I definetly didn't know...How could I believe him? Despite my disbelief, a spark of hope enlightened my eyes...

"hehe...You should see your bloody bruised face..." Jeager laughed quietly to himself "....When you bring her back, make sure you let the soldiers know that I'm gone... Don't try to say anything else either; trust me, I will know....Do this simple thing, and I will save your life and the girl will be fine."

"W....Why?" What kind of thing could bring this kind of goodness from him...What was he up to?

He tilted his head and smiled triumphantly "Because I have dragon honor!"

If I wasn't on the verge of death, I might have started laughing.... As it was, I was on the verge of death....and for some reason, I believed him...I guess I was just that desperate.. "I-Il...I can do that..." the words were practically mumbled

"Good." Jeager stated calmly...the sad irony of his dragon honor soon haunted me as he gently nudged me with his snout, closer to the edge. Before I could object, I soon found myself slipping off the edge. It all happened in an instant; on the way down I hit quite a few boulders and edges and my body was thrashed horribly on the descent. By the time I hit the ground, I was a ruined mess....

On the grass, blood seeping from my mouth. Jeager flew down with Leena in his maw. He landed quietly beside me; he placed an unconscious Leena on my possibly broken back...

"Now go..." He ordered nonchalantly, with that, he disappeared out of my sight; I didn't bother seeing where he want.

A bad few minuted passed before I could move a muscle. I was hurt so bad...I tried as hard as I could to stand...but it was no use, there was too much pain...

I began crawling on the ground, pulling my broken body to her home...a trail of blood marking my path. My only significant thought was the wonderment of how absolutely pathetic I was...

...

At long last...I finally reached sight of her home...it was the house...it was in burnt ruins, completely in ashes. I couldn't leave her here...but I didn't know where else I could drag my carcass too...

... I heard something moving on my back. It was Leena. I slowly turned my head back, amazed that my neck wasn't broken. She was waking.

He mumbled quietly as her eyes opened. She sat up, looking at me. Her eyes were wide in shock and after a gasp she said "A-Are you okay!?"

I couldn't help but laugh quietly...I don't what it exactly was I was laughing at...The fact she's worried for me or how worthless I was... I tried to gather my thoughts...And through my mind I spoke to her for the first time... "We're....home now..."

After that, my body went limp; sending blood in the air, my head swung forward and it rested on the ground...my last sights on the ruined home.

Leena jumped off my back and ran in front of me. Her face...it was so fearful...the brown feathered gryphon girl in the light blue sundress...the image burned into my mind like a branding iron. How could this young girl understand what's going on... "P-please....don't...go...." She spoke through tears.

"Leena? ...What are you...crying for?" I sent my thoughts... "I'm just...a little tired, that's all."

I heard something in the distance...it was talking...then running. Soon, the femme soldier, Talya I think it was, came into view. I could..feel her thoughts...Confusion and worry. I looked up to her and caught her gaze.... "Jeager....is gone...." I thought to her without hesitation....

"Good boy" I heard Jeager's voice in my head.

Just like that, a pain came over me, entrapped in my chest and passing through my body. I coughed harshly, coughing up much blood. Breathing seemed nearly impossible now.

Leena gasped and she hugged my muzzle...obviously becoming covered in blood didn't matter to her. Talya approached slowly, her hand on Leena shoulder, her radio crackling repeatedly.

The little gryphon girl sobbed, "P-Please!! I don't hate you! Im sorry I said that, Im sorry I'm sorry Please don't go..." She faded into a cry, her tears landing on my bloody scale cheek.

.......Where was Jeager...I thought he said 'he would save me'....Was he really not to be trusted....Against my rising suspicion, a calming assurance came over me...Like I knew that everything would be okay... I couldn't imagine how....I guess this is what I get...for taking the easy way out...

My body didn't hurt anymore, "Leena....everything..." The light in my eyes faded "...Is going to.." My last breath left my body "...be okay.... I feel into a darkness and I was sending my last thought indiscriminately, "I love you Leena...Your daddy loves you eve-...."

And then it was over...

_....It's been a long time....hasn't it? Nearly ten years maybe, I don't know...Although you may not remember me, in fact, you may be baffled as to why a stranger sent you nearly a book in a letter...I just wanted you to know this story...Just to let you know...Jeager wasn't lying...

Sincerely,

Jack_

A brown feathered gryphon femme, a young adult wearing a red zip-up hoodie and blue jeans, let out a tears. The tear traveled from her eye to the tip of her triangular beak. She wiped it up with her scaly forearms and her tail wagged softly. She laughed quietly to herself, "So it's jack hu? hm....Don't worry Jack...I never forgot...I never will..."

She stood up, holding the letter her aunt gave her. She stood on a hill, under a tree, away from her home in the forest. "Hmm...I better see you soon, ya?" Her voice, soft but firm, light pitched, stated softly to the wind.

....

There was a tap on her shoulder, "Um excuse me?" Went the voice of a teenage boy.

She turned around to see a hazel anthro dragon just a bit taller then her, smiling at her. "Do you know....anyone named Leena?" he asked softly... "Could you tell her that Jack is here, looking for her?"

A huge slap of shock hit the gryphon girl. She looked at her letter and then at the dragon, "You're jack!?"

The hazel scaled one kept smiling and he said, "...Are you Leena?"

She was silent, holding back her tears, a kind of joy jumped madly within her, fearful that it may have been some mistaken identity.

"Hmm..." He thought deeply, "Let me see...." He pulled a flower, "Is this your favorite kind of flower?" It was a dandy rose he held in his smooth fingers. He grinned quietly, "By the way.....Your dad says 'Hi'." He knew he was taking a risk in saying that, but he would soon find out if it worked...

She could have laughed herself into a coma and she cried softly. She smiled to him....after this long time....he was back....like a dream come true...

She ran to him, dropping the letters to fly in the air. In the perfect moment, hugged him tightly, nearly tackling him....
