I can't recommend it enough. Much thanks also to Gadabout and Mika Kyubi for helping me proofread this.

This story is about a crew of for hire mercenaries in the UTO universe, their adventures and their lives.

A blonde haired man sighed as he looked over the message from his cousin Austin.

"Felix, I can get you passage on the ship but you need to think very hard about doing this, we're an independent freighter, mercenaries really. This ain't a pleasure cruise, you're going to have to work and we're usually on the frontier of UTO space. I don't know why you are suddenly so interested in getting off Earth but you need to think hard about this, you can't just change your mind when you're on board the Wandering Merchant. We're going to be at Neptune Station in two weeks, the details are attached. If you want to join be there and hit me on my yutri and I'll meet you at the gate."

Felix slung his duffel over his back and grabbed the suitcase in his hand and walked toward the "Sol's End" bar on Neptune where his cousin said to meet him. The bar was several stories tall, the upper level was built so the giants of the UTO and humans could converse easily, the lower was taken over and more of a dive bar which was where the young human was heading. He entered and felt the eyes of many patrons land on him, he was not at all the usual clientele as he was clean cut, well dressed and lacking the certain hard edge everyone else had. Felix caught sight of a familiar man standing and waving at him and headed towards that man. The family resemblance was clear, with Felix being only about two years younger and he was was a little above average height for a human at six feet, one inch tall, blond hair and blue eyes. Austin was just a few inches taller, same blue eyes and his hair and beard the same blond. Felix grasped his cousin's outstretched hand and was instantly surprised by the rough skin and strength behind it. His cousin was dressed in a broken in leather light jacket, a black tee shirt under it and a pair of pants that looked well broken in but of a fabric he didn't recognize.

Both men sat down with Felix sliding his bags under the table, Austin looking at him wearily "I see you decided to sign on, before we go forward let me give you some info I couldn't over the comms. I don't know what could've possessed you to do this but that's your business, everyone on the Merchant has a story about why we're there. We're an independent ship, Nick and I own her so we do what we want, where we want it. Our ship is not what you see on the news and stories. The ship and crew have.... character let's say. You're jumping into the deep end here, we'll help you as we can but you're quickly going to be expected to pull your own weight. You still want on?"

Felix nodded "Sure, sounds like all the fun and adventure that the posters promise about going out and seeing the universe."

Austin grinned "Well you got the attitude and sarcastic wit down. It is a joint crew, most are non- human. Don't be afraid to ask for help, I can't stress that enough. You might get some joke or ribbing but that is much better than you messing up and them looking over your shoulder forever."

Felix nodded "What am I going to be doing? I don't have any starship skills."

Austin nodded "You are going to be a helping hand around the ship, learning some new skills and helping Jenn a lot, she's our quartermaster and merchant. She cuts a lot of the deals we have and does the contracts. From what you told me you should work well with her. Most everyone is off the ship right now since we are at a nice port. It is a large ship for what we do, so everyone has their own quarters. There are mechs but they are't for daily use really, there's a transportation system for humans and worst case ask someone for a ride to wherever you are going and there are human scale controls." He pulls out a yutri and hands it to the younger man "Ditch the one you have, this is the one you use now, it's all hard programmed for the ship. I'm going to give you a quick rundown on the crew."

Austin turns on his yutri turns on and quickly an image of a male silver furred, well-muscled, green eyed Falashi appeared. "This is the Captain Nqk'ma, we all call him Nick usually or Captain. He's seventy feet tall." He flicks a control and a female, timberwolf colored, heavily muscled, yellow eyed Lupari appeared. "This is Sear'rh we call her Sarah she is the muscle on the ship, she's seventy five feet tall and as you see is built like a tank." He flicks the control again and a female, white furred, black striped, orange - eyed Ralai with a swimmers build appeared. "This is Qat'rin we call her Kat, and yes she knows the irony of that so don't bring it up, and is the ship's mechanic, and she's seventy feet tall." He flicks the control again and a male crimson furred, slim lightly built, blue eyed Kiori appeared. "This is Jst'an who we call Justin and he's our medic, the smallest non-human at forty five feet tall." He flicks the control again and a female human with red hair, green eyes, and athletic build appeared. "This is Denise Wolfe, our helmsman and pilot, and about our height at six foot two." He flicks the control again and a female human with black hair and blue eyes and a very slim and womanish build appeared. "This is Jennifer Hart, our quartermaster and the shortest member of the crew at five foot ten. Oh and the one without a picture here is our AI, Qurq'mal who we call Que she's a very fiery red viliti with green eyes who's basically whatever size she pleases." He puts the device back in his pocket "Our mission out of here is simple transport, we're taking some supplies to an outer colony. Cake walk, easy money, so it'll give you some good time to get to know the ship and crew. Any questions?"

Felix shook his head and smirked "Sounds straight forward, why are you warning me so much, you made it sound like joining a pirate crew this sounds like an interesting adventure."

Austin frowned "Because there's no safety net, there's no running home to mom and dad, no HR department to complain to. This is the real world and if you sink there's no one here to keep you afloat but us and it really depends if they like you if they want to help. No offence but you've barely left home, much less Earth or Sol and I'm guessing from your message running home either isn't an option or a very unpleasant one."

Felix frowned "Something like that."

Austin nodded "I figured as much since your message didn't even ask about money. So here's the deal, we keep the ship stocked, you don't pay for room or rations but if you want extra or something we don't keep like alcohol then you have to buy it yourself or trade for it from another crewmember. There's a base pay for being on the ship and some missions will have bonuses depending on the contract, no one has an issue living off it but it's not going to buy you a moon either, Jenn will get you the details when you sign all the papers to join on. Here's a tip for you about getting to know everyone, we all have reasons for being here, if they don't ask don't tell them and don't ask them about theirs. "

Austin rubs his face "Ok we don't have a lot of time, how much experience do you have with non-human UTO races?"

Felix shrugged "I know them all, they are pretty distinctive after all and after the war and Earth joining the UTO there are enough documentaries and stuff to choke someone."

The older man shook his head "No I mean interaction, how many have you met and such."

Felix looks down at the table "Ummmm...none, never been near one."

Austin stares at him for a moment "You're fucking with me right?"

Felix shakes his head "No, there wasn't a lot of reason for them to come by my corner of the world, it's not a big deal."

Austin shakes his head "You're planning to live on a ship with a group of them and you've never ever been near one not to mention interacted with someone over then times your size. Brilliant."

Felix shrugs "So they're big, I'm not scared."

Austin grins knowingly at him "I'm going to enjoy seeing you say that to Nick's ankle. So don't moan if you freeze up and get mocked for it. "

Felix smirks "I look forward to seeing that smile vanish when I do."

Austin's smile only grows. "Sure thing. Well I guess it's a good thing this is a cake walk so you have time to get used to being around them and how they do things."

Felix arches an eyebrow "What do you mean?"

Austin shrugs "Hey, they're just bigger right, nothing to worry about." Felix can tell there is something Austin isn't telling him decides it isn't anything he can't handle and lets it go. Austin continues "Is there anything you need before we leave, toothbrush, clothes, meds, food, whatever. We have a little while and we're not going to stop after we shove off unless it's an emergency."

Felix looks down at the worn metal table thinking "I guess maybe some regular food or something just in case. I have clothes and everything else unless there are special clothes I need."

Austin nods "Just something you are fine working in and don't mind getting ruined if needed. Doesn't happen often but just fair warning." He gets up "Ok let's hit the commissary before we go, I wanna grab a few things too."

Felix looks at his bags "Is there any way to get this sent to the ship or something before we go? I've lugged it around for a bit now." The look on Austin's face answers for him "Never mind, let's go so we can head to the ship, I want to get settled and sleep." They head out and to a large supermarket reroute to the docks filled with human food and non-human food served in human sized portions.

Both shop around, Austin getting a few bottles of liquor and to Felix's surprise a large amount of peanut butter. He looked at Austin who chuckled "It's a great snack when you are hungry and takes up very little space." He adds in some candy bars and heads to the next aisle. Felix has some cookies and frozen meals and adds some candy bars and decided to follow Austin's example and get peanut butter. He catches up to Austin who has added a great deal more to his cart, spices and sauces of all kinds. Felix looks at him again and Austin smiles "The rations aren't really bad, they just have really weak flavors so adding some BBQ sauce to one spices it up making it more exciting to eat. Helps pass the time and stuff, you might want to consider getting some stuff to do it as well."

Felix looks over them all "What do you mean?"

Austin pulls out a bottle of teriyaki sauce and shows it to Felix "Ok, the standard rations aren't like you hear about in movies or anything, they don't taste bad, they just have like no taste or flavor or at times texture, it's worse for humans but even non-humans get tired of them. So get a ration and add a strong flavor you like or one that adds to the flavor that's already there. For some you could add peanuts to give it a crunch, Denise stockpiles different flavors of chips and adds them in as her tastes change. So think stuff you like and have it around if you just want to add something. Just a heads up ketchup gets old fast apparently so get a lot of things."

Felix listens and again decides to follow the older man's advice and picks out a few bottles of his favorite BBQ and dressing sauces. "Ok I guess that's all, unless there's anything you can think of?"

Austin looks over Felix's groceries "I'd get beer or something, some nights it just helps you relax. If you like it popcorn, or chips, don't worry about expiration dates and going stale the stasis units we've will keep it good for a good bit. A lot of time we're really just going from place to place so books, games whatever to keep yourself occupied." The younger man again follows his advice and gets some beer and a bottle of rum. "Ok I think that is all, you'll need to learn more as you go, you're going to have ups and downs until you get your own routine down." He passes Felix a plastic card with odd marking on it "This is a debit card, funds from the ship are loaded on it for crew, paychecks and if they're sent to get supplies for the ship, whatever. I had your sign on bonus put on this so you could get whatever you needed to start you off."

Felix looks it over, it was an oddly shaped rectangle with cut edges, it also felt and looked like it was made of crystal. The UTO emblem was on one side, his name on the other and on top was a collection of what he assumed to be letters. "So I use this when I want to buy stuff?"

Austin nodded "At stores and other places that take UTO Credits, for places that need....more physical forms of payment you don't need to worry about, stay clear of them."

Felix smirked "So all these stories about the UTO being this utopia of sorts is not measuring up. Seedy bars, black market deals, oh my."

Austin chuckled "Paradise isn't real kid, there is a dark side to every story. The UTO has a much brighter side than most groups, it's far from perfect. Just like humans there are people who don't like the rules, their government, the cards they were dealt in life and rebel against it, or some are just plain criminals. UTO Space is vast and it grows all the time, there are many places they either can't or just don't bother policing. Earth gets a huge contingent because of its proximity to Rynar space." He looks at his yutri "We've got a little more time, let's check out then we can head to the ship or do anything else you need."

The pair checked out, Felix was shown how to use his new card, swiping it over a crystal like one of those speedpass payments on Earth. Austin showed him how to check the card balance using his yutri. Felix was impressed to see that the device converted the amount to all UTO currency and even more impressed to see the balance on it. When he asked Austin, the reply he received was a shrug and "It's a signing bonus, don't expect to get that on a regular basis so don't blow it." They paid for their groceries and had them delivered to the ship, Felix was able to add his luggage to it too. Perk of being a human in the UTO, they take up very little space so transport is easy.

The duo headed toward the docks, an odd combination of walks and lifts with little conversation taking place. Felix used this opportunity to download a large amount of books and data to his yurtri for reading later if he got bored. He was getting tired of Austin's evasiveness "This isn't what I expected when we met up again Austin. We used to be friends and talk a lot now you seem to want to avoid me."

Austin is quiet for a moment, eyes kept ahead "A lot has happened since then." Felix was about to press more before Austin replied "Like I said Felix, everyone out here has a story and not everyone wants to share it." Felix decided now was not the time to press this and shrugged it off "Fair enough I guess I'm here kinda doin the same thing."

They enter the docking area but Austin leads them off track, Felix confused, follows him into a kind of lounge area with a large viewport into the dock area. Felix was stunned, he was looking into an area the size of a large city, filled with ships off all shapes and sizes. They were coming and going everywhere, a hub of activity the likes of which he had never seen. After a few moments Austin pointed out toward a specific ship "That's ours."

He saw the ship for the first time and was stuck by its sheer scale, it was miles away from the viewport and was still huge to him, and this was some of the smaller sized ships the UTO made! The ship was one long cylinder but instead of circular was octagonal in shape. The front tapered off into a blunt nose and large exhaust cones were at the opposite ends. There were several odd sections on the top hull of the vessel, notched in a few intervals along the ship which he asked Austin about. "Those are cargo pads, shuttles can land on them to deliver smaller loads of cargo to the top holds. Towards the stern you can see part of the launch hangar, we custom built that, it has a small ship in there in case the Merchant is too large. The one toward the bow is our hangar. She's six decks high, the top and bottom two are for cargo, in many places it's just two decks tall. Decks four and five are ours, cabins, mess, whatnot."

After letting Felix stare at the ship for a bit Austin tugs his arm "Ok let's go, we need to meet with Jen before we shove off. Get you all legit." After another walk they enter the berth, and head toward the gangplank into the ship. Felix is surprised to see that the human sized one isn't extended and asked about it. Austin smiles "She is older than contact with humans, all the modifications in the ship are custom and in some places pretty crude but all functional. There's an elevated walkway for us, doors put into specific places on them as well as some on the floor. Like I said this isn't a UTO ship, it isn't up to the specs you see on TV."

They enter the ship and Felix looks around taking in his first time on a non-human ship. It was kind of what he expected but even though he knew about it the scale still get to him a little. There was almost no human building large enough and hollow to use as an example. The ceiling was a hundred feet high, the stretch of corridor could have been a mile long and over hundred feet wide. The inside was not what he was expecting; it didn't look like some futuristic space cruiser. The floor was matte black and felt weird under his shoes, almost like a foam or rubber. The walls and ceiling looked like metal but when he touched it, it didn't feel like it. "You know, this place is mind blowing huge, but... it's just big. I thought all this would be more advanced or something."

Austin looked at him for a second then burst out in laughter. "God Felix, it's a hallway, what do ya expect?" He laughs again "Look at your yutri it does as much as a supercomputer and is small, compact and convenient they didn't make it look fantastic. Most of the equipment on the ship won't look like something out of a sci fi show, it'll look normal just do amazing things. Also this isn't a high end ship so we don't have a Simulator or anything. As I said we've got an AI as part of the crew that I'm sure you will meet when you least expect it."

Felix looked a little confused "I thought all UTO ships have AIs why's it weird you have one?"

Austin frowned a little "No, most of them are on larger ships but Que wanted to join us and fits in great because she's as glitchy as a freshly released version of Windows." He looks around as if expecting someone to be watching. "She'll show up eventually, I swear she likes getting our heart rates up. Come on Jen said she'd be in her office." He walks over to a platform, Felix following. He presses a control and the platform quickly raises up to a walkway set about midway along the wall. Felix looked it over critically, there was supports running along under them welded to the wall uses to hold the walkway itself. The walkway looked to be a flat sheet of metal that was bent into an L shape making not only the floor but also a guardrail to keep people from falling to the floor.

Austin was right this was very functional but did not look like something you would expect a race of giant advanced aliens to create. They walked until they came to a turn into another corridor and some odd pieces of metal on the floor. Austin gestures to the hall "This is Main Street, it runs the length of the ship, bow to stern." He points to the metal rectangles on the floor, they are about a foot long and two wide. "These are transportation for humans, they're small anti gravs that we call sleds and are controlled with your yutri. It helps when we have to get past doors and such and of course moving much faster if needed. Get on and open up the yutri an option for the unit will pop up and have a list of preprogrammed destinations on it or you can put in custom ones. I don't recommend the manual control until you get practice or are very good at skateboarding."

To demonstrate Austin stepped on one, much like how you would a skateboard and it lifted off the ground. He opened his yutri "Get on and select 'Supply' that's Jen's office, don't click on 'Jen' that's her quarters." He waits for Felix to get onto his own board and check out the list, Austin was right there were a few pages of destinations, people's names, places very impressive. Austin turns forward "See ya there." He presses something and heads off at a nice speed. Felix selected 'Supply' and flailed a little as the board started moving, quickly having to rebalance himself. After a second of worry he felt a surge of excitement, this was amazing! He was riding on a hoverboard through a giant alien spaceship to join the crew! That thrill was drowned quickly by a wave of cold hard truth as to why he was here.

The board moved at the speed he would on a brisk walk, enough to feel a slight breeze on his face but what Felix paid the most attention to was the ship passing him by. He was still torn between his feelings, being here on a spaceship, how lackluster it was and why he was here in the first place. He was so distracted he failed to notice they were coming upon a door and was shocked to suddenly see no floor under him, just a sheer drop. He cried out and jerked back reflexively making the board under him sway and he started to slide off. Before he fell off he felt a hard jerk on the front of his shirt as he righted himself. The front of his shirt was gripped in Austin's fist with a knowing grin on the older man's face "Careful, they'll stay up but not if you fall off. Might need to get you some magnetic boots to keep you locked on."

Felix quickly overcame his worry and scowled "You could've warned me."

Austin's smirk never wavered "This is your first lesson, always pay attention to your surroundings. This isn't an environment that's safe for humans to be careless, it's built for giants and there are parts made to make it easier for us but it's still built for them. They can't pay attention to every step they take or where they put a cup or tool. You need to do your part or risk getting hurt."

The retort died on Felix's lips as he considered Austin's words "Ok I get it, but you still could have told me I was going from a walkway to midair. Jerk."

Austin kept smirking "True I could have, this just drives the point home better I think." He released Felix's shirt "Press the resume button, the board is programmed to stop if the passenger is in distress." He turns his back and resumes toward the office.

Felix wanted to retort more but knew that it was a very good lesson, but refused to let it show. After a few moments and a few more doors, that he was ready for this time, they arrived at their presumed destination. There was a human sized door cut into the wall beside the non-human one but the boards hovered out in front of the giant door and it slid off to the side into the wall opposite them. Inside looks to be what started as a room for a non-human UTO crew members renovated to be a human barracks. All the fixtures he would expect were removed to a bare room, and was modified like the walkway outside with some of the rough but functional look he was coming to expect. At the same level as the walkway outside is what he would call is a main floor of the human section. A large metal slab took up about half the room and on top of it were two human sized structures, buildings might have been too nice a word.

The first building looked like the front of a motel building and was four stories high. There were five doors on each level, roughly the same distance from each other, the first thing that came to Felix's mind was a motel, each of those was a room for humans. As they headed toward that building he got a quick look at the other, and his mind said 'warehouse' it was a large building, he guessed two stories tall and it had a few large doors on the front. His view was quickly lost as the boards took them to the human quarters. He saw that there was a staircase on the side so everything was reachable on foot if needed. They ended up on the top floor in front of the door on the far left, on the door was a small plank that said "Jen Hart - Quartermaster'.

The boards settle onto the ground and Austin knocks on the door, before Felix can what why there is a voice from the inside that yells out "It's open Austin." There is an actual handle, shattering more of the illusion of what he expected from a spaceship, which Austin uses to open the door and walk in. Inside is a very professional office including a very nice solid desk covered in various notes and such in paper. Behind the desk was Jen, she looked a lot like she did in her picture. She looked up with a bored, irritated expression. "This the new guy, good I would like to enjoy what little time we've left here before we have to go."

Austin smirked "Sorry but you're the person who deals with the contracts, like you wanted."

She squinted at him "And you know damned well I do it better than you or Nick could ever hope to." She turns to you "Felix Jaeger, Austin said he was going to tell you about the life aboard ship and the general way stuff works here, check your yutri I sent you the specific contract I need you to sign off on. In a nutshell, you get paid a monthly salary with possible bonuses for missions that are particularly lucrative or dangerous and finder's fees for finding work that we do. The ship provides for all the basic needs of the crew, you'll have your own quarters, it's sound proofed for light sleepers, food but it sucks so bring some, medical care which is great but the doctor is sometimes a little clingy. Pull it up, look it over and let me know if you have any questions, if not sign it and I can get back to my free time."

Suddenly a voice sounded in the room making Jen and Austin jump, a very female voice filled with mirth "Awww don't be mean Jenny, he's new let me see that fun person you are." There was movement on her desk, looking down he saw a bright red vitili leaning against a cup on the desk.

Jen growled a little "Damn it Que! How many times do we have to tell you not to just appear like that!"

The vitili giggled, and the suddenly appeared next to Felix making him jump as well. "I was on your desk, not my fault if you didn't see me before I talked." She was dressed as what he assumed was a wizard from some fantasy setting, a purple robe with all kinds of various markings on it and what looked like bottles hanging from the belt. She offers her hand to Felix "Hello! I'm Que, I'm the resident AI."

Felix reflexively takes her hand, surprised that he could feel fur and heat from it looking into amazingly lifelike green eyes. Jen squints at her as Austin chips in. "Also resident psychopath and you know that you're not supposed to show up in any of the rooms without knocking like everyone else."

The AI pouted like a spoiled teenager "But I wanted to meet Felix." She pulled Felix close and squeezed him in a hug. He could feel? it, how was a projection able to squeeze him in a hug, how could he feel her... it's fur? Just as sudden as the contact started it ended the viliti released him "I'm going to leave you alone now, hope you're not as antisocial as some of your species Felix!" The images of her vanished as if it was never there.

Austin muttered something Felix was pretty sure was not English or a human language at all. "Well congrats you met your first non-human, Que our resident AI who, no matter how hard she denies, it I think worked as a interrogator for military intelligence. She is relentless."

Felix was dumbstruck for a moment then asked "I thought AI's were just projections, how could I feel her, or it or....how the hell does this all work?"

Austin sighs "They can choose to be solid or just light, most of them choose to remain incorporeal. All AIs are different, they have their own quirks and personalities. Que seems to be very tactile, she likes to touch and such. I have no earthly idea what everyone on the ship says she is very odd for it. But she chooses to be solid because she likes touching people. Expect surprise hugs and such at any time you are not in a private area where she isn't allowed to manifest without permission. As I said she is crazy. And they are programed to identify as a gender she has the mind of a woman even if she lacks the physical form of one."

Jen adds in "The UTO has been working on energy shielding for centuries and hasn't had a practical breakthrough, everything to make it useful in combat or large scale work has never been pulled off. Once they made AIs they used it to be able to make a shell for them, it'll give a little just like flesh or fur and feel like it as well to physical people. After years they have gotten a code working so that AIs can feel stuff. They can feel if something is hot or cold, hard or soft and all the rest. It's just expensive as shit. Que has one in here so she can interact with customers if needed, it's portable and she has one in her quarters for her own uses. "

Before Felix could reply "As fascinating as this discussion seems to be, I have places to be and things to do. Austin can fill you in as to whatever else you need but right now we're dealing with what I need. First, give me your yutri."

Felix pulls it out of his pocket and looks it over "What do you need it for?"

Jen rubs her face "I am going to set you up with access to the ship, unless you know, you don't want to open doors or call for help."

Felix frowns "Are you usually this crotchety or is this just my lucky day?"

Both of the other crew look stunned for a moment and then break out laughing. After a moment they catch their breath as Jen grabs the device from Felix. "Ok, you might actually make it here." She presses it against her yutri and selects a few controls on it. After a moment his unit flashed and she handed it back to him. "I've cleared you to have access to most of the ship and its' systems, you might get more depending on if you need it. I also gave you a quick data pack, it'll give you basic info, plus where everyone stays" She heads to the door. "Also in there is your contract, read it and give it your print. I'm going to go enjoy the station while I can. I'll get the message when you sign. Any questions ask our intrepid XO here." She closes the door behind her.

Felix looks at Austin "Is everyone on this ship crazy or just them?"

Austin turn to look at him with a smirk "Oh we are all crazy, you included. You just don't know it yet. Check over the data in your yutri and see if you've got any question"

Felix opens the data pack that was sent to his yutri. It was a cross section of the ship with locations on it that he decided to look at later, a few files and the contract. He quickly brought it up and read it over. "Why the hell is the accidents section so long?"

Austin cocks his head and gives him a very condescending look "You're joining a ship of giants on a ship built for giants. Do the math."

Felix felt his face grow hot but didn't reply as he kept reading. The deal seemed very good, too good then he came across the catch. "That's why this seems so good, the non-disclosure section is longer than the accident section. We do a lot of questionable or illicit or illegal things that we're not supposed to talk about?"

Austin looks contemplative for a moment "Hmmm, I suppose it depends on whose jurisdiction we're in and your own point of view wouldn't it? But on a serious note we're not criminals, everything we do is legal but sometimes dangerous or questionable. Nick and I decided when we started that we'd always stay above the board."

Felix frowns "How can it be above the board and questionable?"

Austin shakes his head "Just because something is legal doesn't make it popular or what some people would consider good. Nothing we'd do would get us arrested under UTO law, or more specifically not convicted. Laws also change a little depending on which section of the UTO we're in. Think of UTO law like federal law and individual race's laws like state. It all depends who contracts us and such. It's why we have Jen, she's exceptional at these details."

Felix squints at his cousin "How's that not illegal?"

Austin sighs "Because Felix even giant aliens have lawyers and they'd love to make stuff so complicated that only they can sort it out. Best way I can say it's like something might be legal in the US, legal in Delaware but Illegal in Maryland. If it's legal depends on a lot of factors."

Felix cracks a smile "Well as confusing as that is, it's nice to see we've got some things in common with giant aliens."He returns to looking over the document, the deal was very good he could see why this crew had been together for a few years already. Decent pay, good medical attention and basic needs were all in there. He took a deep breath and pressed his thumb on the screen in effect signing his name to the document and starting his new life with a crew of crazy people on a giant alien spaceship.
