This a story driven story based off an old Russian cartoon "Nu, Pogodi!" Volk, a young adult male wolf has been through a lot in his attempts to catch Zayats, a young male Hare whom he tries to catch either to eat or for revenge at times when his plans fail. But after having a bad day, to Volk, it's the final straw and he's had it. As he grieves, he's comforted by someone he doesn't expect and than the reason to why Volk has been chasing Zayats is revealed. There might be a sequel to this but don't know if there's chances on that.

It was a sunny day and the sky was blue, not a cloud in the sky yet sometimes there was very few white clouds that looked like no rain was about to fall. At a local hospital, there was plenty of doctors, nurses and patients there. Some patients had injuries, illnesses and some were in recovery after procedure was done. The doctors and nurses always did what they could when treating a patient, no matter how minor or major the condition was from the patient. There was one patient that was recovering but he wasn't looking very happy.

"Why, why, why." said the patient.

The patient was a young male adult wolf who was either in his mid to late twenties or early thirties, he was a tall, long haired male wolf who had a deep, gruff yet soft voice like he was taking in a breath and letting it out, sometimes his voice was raspy. He had gray fur all over, long black hair and black eyes like beetles with warmth, he was in a pair of blue pajamas that were having long sleeves and pants length like legging to them. He was laying in a bed as he had been through an accident, he was having bandages around his right leg, his left arm and had a small ice pack strapped to his head as it was on top of a bump on his head. He had a black eye on his right eye, some slight swellings to his right cheek, red marks on his arms and legs and very few on his cheeks. He had a depressed expression on his face.

"Why do you do this to me?" said the depressed male wolf.

He was in big a room and in came a female dog in a nurses uniform as she was in to see how the miserable wolf was doing.

"Mr. Volk, how are we feeling right now?" asked the female dog nurse kindly.

Volk, the male wolf was silent and just let out a deep and heavy sigh. The nurse dog was seeing he was recovering in the body but didn't look happy when it came to how he felt emotionally and psychologically, she placed a hand on his head.

"Volk, would it be necessary if we contact your family? Your mother or your father." suggested the dog nurse.

Volk felt like a strong sting to his heart was shot into him as he heard her mention his family, especially his mom and dad as he shed a tear that trickled out of his eyes and trickled down his cheeks. The nurse dog figured she brought up a tragic subject.

"Oh? I forgot, you have a visitor." said the female dog nurse as she suddenly remembered something.

Volk was feeling a bit surprised on the inside. A visitor coming to see him was something he wasn't expecting after the day he had. The nurse walked off but gave Volk a kiss to his forehead before walking off, she looked like she spoke to the visitor for a brief minute as if to inform the visitor how vulnerable he's feeling. The visitor walked in and it turned out to be a familiar face.

"Hey Volk, it's me, Zayats." came a males voice.

The male visitor was a male rabbit, he around fourteen years old and was barely four feet and eight inches tall with a slim and trim body, he had brown fur all over, blue eyes, short, neat and trimmed brown hair, wearing a green T-shirt with white sleeveless shirt underneath, white around the collar of his shirt and white around the hems of his sleeves and bottom of the shirt and dark green shorts. He had rosy cheeks, as if he looked like a female from appearance but was surprisingly a male. Volk turned to see the male rabbit and stopped. The male rabbit had a sweet yet high voice in a cute way which sounded like he could be a great singer and a good whistler.

"Zayats." said Volk as he tried not to show his voice breaking.

"Volk, what I'm seeing here is a broken man, are there any broken bones?" asked Zayats looking concern.

Volk shook his head gently as it was good news to Zayats to hear that the poor wolf had no broken bones, just pain and injury that was like a cut that could be bandaged up. Zayats walked up to Wolf and placed a glass vase on a nearby table with roses in them as it was filled with water, than the young rabbit turned to Volk, he wrapped his arms around his neck to gently hug him for a few minutes and eventually released her arms from him.

"Volk, I know your thinking I'm going to say I told you so or lecture you about what happened but I know that your in enough pain already and that it won't help you feel any better if I did say either of them." said Zayats as he knew that lecturing Volk would not help. "I just want to know something if you don't mind me asking."

Volk wiggled his long wolf like ears to show he was listening and Zayats knew that was a good sign.

"Volk, a lot of times, you have chased after me, literally chased, and so far I knew that it was either you tried to eat me or that you tried to get back at me if your plan failed or if I interfered or intervened or if I had anything to do with you feeling the way you do now, I just want to know, why did you try and do those things when you chased after me? Of course there were times when I know I'm to blame for some of it here and there and I'm sorry for that, but than there were times when you were chasing after me for the reasons I've said, just tell me why you were doing that?" asked Zayats as he was curious and trying to inject some compassion in the wolf.

Volk was thinking and he at first had nothing to think of to what caused him to do what he did or to why he was doing that when ever he was around Zayats. Wolk than suddenly started to think of what caused him to do this and it was making the emotional pain sting stronger in his heart and mind.

"I...want to be alone." said Volk as he was feeling his depression getting worse.

"Why don't you tell me, it might make things better for the both of us. I want you to help me understand. Was it because someone was blackmailing you or bullying you into doing it or was it because of some personal issues as a child?" asked Zayats trying to convince Volk to open up.

"It was....." Volk stopped at mid sentence.

Zayats was listening and Wolk was remembering the reason for it all, bringing him back to memories of his verbally abusive and overbearing father teaching him that his enemy was the rabbits for irrational reasons and that his mother was probably deceased. Another tear shed from his eye and he looked down at the floor.

"My dad." finished Volk. "He kept on teaching me why we do what we do and it was to get back at the ones he says was our enemies, and he told me it was the rabbits."

"Why were the rabbits your enemies?" asked Zayats.

"It went back to our family tree, just because our ancestors planned a mining job for workers and it was turning out to be a forced labor camp but it was than over thrown by the rabbits because they found out it was backing breaking, tiring, abusive work and illegal. So the rabbits exposed them, those who were responsible were arrested and they vowed revenge." explained Volk.

As Zayats listened, he was wondering about it and knew this was something that was not only surprising to hear but it was a bit shocking to learn how this caused such a feud between the rabbits and Volk's wolf family, but that wasn't all as Zayats predicted.

"But as time went on, members of my family, and them rabbits have come and gone yet my family was a dysfunctional one, on my dad's side, as a child, my dad taught me nothing but how the rabbits are our family's enemy and that we were to hate them and to do as our ancestors have tried and failed at, by having vengeance against them. But my mother, she only wanted to love me and show me that love is all we needed, my parents often argued about each others parenting skills, but my mother, when I was a little boy, she passed on peacefully in her sleep yet it was heart breaking." continued Volk. "Yet I still miss my mother, yet my dad, all he ever did was say and do mean things to me, always yelling at me and never has he showed any compassion towards me or what I really wanted to do."

As Zayats was hearing this, all he could feel was surprise and heart ache for Volk and his situation. A young male wolf coming from an abusive dysfunctional family from his dad's side and never got to learn the right things he was suppose to learn would be hard on anyone at any age, only knowing what love was from a mother that wasn't around very long and being raised by a verbally abusive and overbearing father was no way to learn anything positive and no way to learn what love and compassion is yet not having anyone to support someone in what they really want to do is much harder. Zayats who had a loving and compassionate family and life could see that at times, he felt others pain and helped out yet knew that Volk was needing love, compassion and help more than ever.

"So your dad made you do what you do? But you never wanted to, where is your dad now?" asked Zayats curiously.

"I never knew, once I was eighteen, I stopped seeing him yet years later, I found out he died, apparently he passed on due to natural causes, he smoked for years, everyone always knew smoking was a mistake." revealed Volk sadly. "I only did what I did because my dad wanted me to, but I knew he never would support what I really wanted. I wanted to be involved with music since I could play the guitar yet my dad wouldn't let me."

"And what about any other family members?" asked Zayats.

"I don't know, never saw them very often, yet now, I don't know where any of them are, my mother's side died out but my dad's side, I don't where they're at but I met them once and the way they are, I don't want to go to them, they're very mean." said Volk sadly.

As Zayats saw Volk shed another tear, he knew this was very heart breaking to see and hear and for Volk, Zayats knew this was hard for him to tell anyone. Zayats gently hugged the saddened wolf and kissed him on his cheeks, causing Volk to blush a bit.

"Volk, I know your in both physical yet emotional pain, but with your dad's side of the family and your dad no longer around, they can't say or do anything to you no more. They made their choices, with you not being around your dad and his side of the family, your free to make your own choices for yourself without anyone to tell you what to do. If your mother loved you, than do what your mother probably wants you to do, live a life of love." said Zayats as he was trying to convince Volk to change.

"But, I don't know how." said Volk as he had a slight sniffle.

"Than me and my family can teach you, me and my family could be the family you never had." said Zayats.

Volk was feeling like Zayats compassion was slowly going through him yet if the process was slow, it was better than a slow and steady process than a process that didn't budge. But Volk did feel some slight doubt.

"I don't know if your family would want some wolf like me living with them, it would be like parents finding out their teenagers hidden a magazine from them." said Volk feeling a bit bashful at the idea.

"I've come from a loving family and they wouldn't mind, you'd be surprised." said Zayats as she turned to look at the exit. "Mom, dad, you can come forward."

Volk saw a married rabbit couple walk in and they turned out to be Zayats parents, a mom and dad, they walked up towards them and Volk saw warm expressions of their faces.

"Mom and dad, this is Volk, the wolf I told you about. I know you've heard nothing but bad or negative things about him but it was all a cry for help." said Zayats.

As Zayats explained to his parents everything that Volk told him, hearing this had the same affect on his rabbit parents as it did Zayats. All three of them turned their attention to Volk.

"Volk, if your willing to let us help you change for the better, than you can stay with us, but if you smoke, that is if you do smoke, we don't smoke in the house, if you want to smoke, you smoke outside of the house." said the mother.

To Volk, hearing this was a relief for him like a huge and heavy weight was lifted off his back.

"And you and Zayats must get along." said the father.

"I understand Mr. and Mrs. Zayats. But as for smoking, I've given up the habit, haven't smoked in ten months but I understand what you mean, just please don't yell at me if I mess up along the way." said Volk as he was drying his tears with his fingers.

"Volk honey, people make mistakes, it's how we learn and it's part of growing up. Even if you do mess up, we don't yell at people who make mistakes, we talk to them about it and work through it." said the mother rabbit kindly.

Volk let out a sigh of relief and the mother rabbit came over to kiss Volk on his forehead, causing him to blush and smile.

"Mommy." said Volk softly.

"Also Volk, there's others here that want to see you too." said Zayats.

As Zayats called in for the other visitors, in came the visitors and many of them were males and females, adults and children. There was the male Hippo who was a strong and heavyset male that Zayats and Volk have seen from time to time, the male Cat who was an illusionist that they remembered from the circus, the Sea lion male who they remembered when on the cruise ship who served as a Navy Captain and some of them who they crossed paths with that were male or female Bears, Red Foxes, Elephants, Beavers, Dogs and Pigs and other children and adults that Volk and Zayats remembered from their past encounters.

"Volk, I'm so sorry for any trouble I've caused you through out the times we've crossed paths." said the male hippo.

"Volk, I'm so sorry for the trouble I put you through in my magic act." said the male cat.

"Volk, I'm so sorry for the harsh treatment I put you through on that cruise ship." said the male sea lion.

"Volk, I'm sorry for tossing you out in the circus act when you fell on me, you were just trying not to get hurt during the landing of your fall." said an elephant.

"Volk, I'm sorry for all the trouble you went through throughout our crazy mishaps." said Zayats.

"Can you forgive us all?" asked all of them kindly.

Volk was feeling like he was so relieved that if he wasn't hurt, he'd jump for joy and dance.

"Only if all of you can forgive me for all the times I caused all of you trouble or any wrong doings I've done." said Volk as he was starting to smile.

They cheered for joy and both Zayats, his mother and many of the females there came over to hug him and kiss him gently as they knew they had to be gentle since his body was still healing from the physical pain, causing him to blush, smile and giggle in a goofy tone. As the day went on, everyone spent the day at the hospital while they were there for Volk and Zayats. Volk was forgiven for his wrong doings and he had forgiven everyone else who visited him of anything he was put through, he finally had a family who would love him and let him have his freedom and not yell at him and not abuse him as he was now living with Zayats and his family as he would go to therapy to get help, he would sleep in one of the guest bedrooms at Zayats and his parents home which was a big and beautiful home. It felt like everything was falling into place for everyone, even Volk as he was now part of a big family who are helping him heal from his pain.
