The sound of crunching snow under the weight of the heavy snow boots echoed through the halls as deep frozen breaths were taken in slow gasps, lights from flashlights mounted on assault rifles were the only illumination as several heavy clothed figures move cautiously down the large frozen hallway. The walls were covered in a white frost and the floor was covered by a thick sheet of white snow. The figures were dressed in thick white arctic coats and pants with protective black goggles and masks with gloves covering they're hands, not one part of any of their forms were left exposed.

In their hands they clutched black assault rifles that looked to be M16A1's with small flashlights keeping the path in front of them lit as they neared the end of the hall and two large doors. The flashlights were shone on the walls and ceiling, then they were all focused on the door as the team continued moving forward. Spreading out into single lines on either side of the two walls, showing a total of eight. The two in front turned to look back over their shoulders at the line behind them and when they saw everyone of the line nod they faced the doors and slowly reached for the latch handles. Once they had a hold of the latches they pushed them down, only to have them snap off without much pressure. The one on the left pulled the broken latch to its face looking it over while the one on the right tossed the latch aside and quickly thrust its left foot forward, smashing the doors open with an icy crash.

The doors were knocked completely off their hinges and smashed like glass when they landed on the snow-covered ground inside the room. As the doors fell to the ground the eight armed figures quickly moved into a lined formation in front of the door. The two in front on the left and right side went to one knee while the two behind them crouched down next to them, while the other four behind them remained standing with all eight weapons aimed into the room. Inside of the room was the same as the outside, covered in a frost and snow with two large desks thrown around. The flashlights illuminated the back wall of the room and were immediately reflected by large windows, though there was no outside light as the windows had been covered by a thick sheet of snow as well.

Once their weapons were aimed the eight coated figures moved into the room in a quick sweeping formation, as soon as they entered the room they ran their lights to the walls they were closest to then quickly back to the front. The two in front after sweeping their lights to the left and right wall quickly spun around and turned them on the wall above the door as the others made they're way into the room right after them. Within seconds the eight of them had moved into the room with every part of the room being scanned over by their flashlights and finding nothing but a snow covered room with two large equally snow-covered desks that had been scattered around the room recklessly.

Once they found that the room was empty all eight of the rifles were lowered. One of them reached up and pulled its mask down, showing a human lower face, pulling its goggles up and setting them on its forehead revealing a human male face, his brown eyes scanned over the area and all the eight others with him. Each one pulled their masks down and goggles up showing two female grey wolves, a male snow leopard, a male black bear, another male human, a female white tiger and finally a female black panther.

All eight of them looked around the room then toward one another as the brown-eyed human pulled a handheld radio from his belt harness.

"Snowflake this is drop team ClearIce, over" his voice was slightly strained from the cold and the mist from his breath flowing from his mouth even after he stopped talking.

After a moment static sounded over the radio before a scratchy gruff voice came over the radio "ClearIce this is Snowflake, how's the weather down there?"

Quickly pulling his handheld radio back to his lips, he replied sarcastically "Fucking tropical, heat-wave of negative fifty with a chance of freezing your ass off," this brought chuckles from the other seven around him as a smile played over the human's lips.

A gruff chuckle came over the radio before quickly dying down. "Sounds good, find anything of use or something to waste some ammo on?"

"No, nothing of any interest to anyone, we're gonna head toward the rendezvous now for pick up, how's BlackIce and HotIce."

A slow standing silence passed over the radio before the gruff voice filled the room again, "They say that they've found some food, BlackIce also caught some Stranded and got to spend some ammo."

Glancing over the other seven before pulling his goggles back over his eyes, he looked over a green lined map as it appeared in front of his eyes, checking it over quickly before the map disappeared, leaving only the black goggles, and pulled the radio back to his lips.

"Alright then, we'll be ready for pick up in thirty, let BlackIce and HotIce know."

The gruff voice agreed before the human slipped his radio back into a special pouch on his harness, pulling his mask back up and lifting his rifle into both hands. "Alright, dress up and lets get going, I need to get back to base so I can get my beauty sleep," his comment bringing a chuckle over the group as they put their masks and goggles on. Everyone moved back into formation and started back down the hall at a steady pace, still cautious but not as much as it had been when they first started toward the room.

All eight of the team moved down the hall then turned left down a slightly smaller and plainer hallway, unlike the fancier hallway that led to the empty room, moving down the hallway then moving into a stairwell and starting up the stairs toward the roof. The number on the side of the wall showed that the team was on the thirtieth floor. They moved higher and higher till they reached the forty-third floor before stepping out of the stairwell, the team became cautious once again as the door leading out of the stairwell was opened and they quickly began checking the ceiling, floors and walls again.

Moving to the left as soon as they stepped from the stairwell, six of the team looking straight ahead with the last two walking backwards, making sure that nothing comes up from behind them. They continued down the hall, before turning to the right into a light at the end of the hallway. Moving toward the light then out of the building, stepping through a smashed open window and out onto a flat plain of pure snow. Looking around they could see the large skyscrapers, covered in thick sheet of ice and snow with only the tallest of the tall buildings protruding from the snow.

Once out of the building the snow began looking like a desert, rolling hills and dust blowing up as the wind soared through the city, creating a screeching howl as it passed by the buildings. Moving down a large snow-bank that took them down around four floors of the skyscraper they had just left before the snow slowly flattened out, they headed toward the tip of a radio tower in the distance, equivalent to about four to five city blocks away. The team of eight moved at a brisk pace with their heads turning left, right then behind them before looking forward again, all seeming to be on edge and anticipating something as they moved closer and closer toward the radio tower.

The human who was leading the other seven looked toward the sky, seeing the grey and white clouds swirling slowly overhead, even though the sky was blocked out the light from the sun continued to illuminate the world. Looking forward again as the distant radio tower began to come into sight, the team seemed to relax slightly when they were all able to see the radio tower clearly but quickly ducked and jumped down into the snow as gunshots echoed throughout the city, rolling and spinning into crouched positions in a circle with two yards between each other and all backs to one another.

The gunshots were from an automatic weapon since the shots rang out over and over, one right after the other and soon several weapons were being fired. The team quickly realized that they weren't being fired at and the human leader reached back, pulling the handheld radio from his harness, listening to the gunshots sounding over the radio.

Before he was able to talk into the radio the gruff voice yelled out over the radio cutting off the gunfire and static that covered it lightly. "HotIce is in some hot shit right now, they say they've run into a Stranded nest and need help, they're in the corporate building west of the pick up point."

He lifted the radio to his covered lips. "Yeah we heard, they must be within the short wave range. We're on our way to help right now," he said firmly, slipping the radio back into his harness before getting to his feet and looking over his shoulder at the rest of his team.

The other seven quickly got to their feet and the mood changed quickly as they stood firmly with their weapons in hand, the human in front had a map appear on his goggles again and a quick red circle blink a few times before everything disappeared.

"Let's move," came simple words in a deep commanding voice, unlike the one he was speaking with earlier and all eight of them quickly charged off to the left toward where the gunshots had sounded from.

Moving quickly toward a large building that was covered in nothing but iced over glass, quickly looking the side that was available to the team before they started around it looking for the opening while the human leader pulled the handheld radio from his harness.

"HotIce, HotIce this is ClearIce, do you copy, over" he called out quickly as he stopped at an open glass panel leading into the building as the gunshots continued to sound off. After a moment a female voice came over the radio, with static covering her voice and gunfire that was surpressed by loud ear piercing screeching that could even be heard outside.

"Mother fuckers..." was the first thing over the radio before several bursts from automatic weapons rang out "ClearIce, get your asses in here, we're nine stories down from when you get in and the stairs are to your right. Once your in, hurry..." gunfire was the only thing left before the radio cut out, leaving only silence.

"Snowflake, pass that message onto BlackIce, we're moving in now," the gruff voice calling out an agreement before the ClearIce team moved into the building at a very fast pace.

The team's flashlights were sweeping around the hallway fast, left, right, up, down then straight ahead only to be moved in the same pattern five steps later as they made their way to the stairs. Pushing the door open they heard several gunshots echo up from the darkness that covered the stairs. The leader stepped into the stairwell. Finding that there was no snow anywhere, he moved to the side and watched the upper stairs as the seven others moved down in a straight line, the last one through the door lightly hitting the human's shoulder letting him know that everyone was through the door and moving on.

The team circled down the stairs quickly, moving from the forty-first floor to the thirty second floor and coming to a quick stop, slowly the one on point opened the door and slipped into the hall with the everyone moving right behind them in a quick manner. Four facing left with the others facing to the right illuminating the entire hallway,

"I've not heard any gunshots," came a female voice from the team.

"Yeah, four with four, Jack, Si, Eric and Lisa go right, Heather, Kain with me and Nuke, you watch the door." The tallest of the group, which could only be the bear, nodded and moved toward the stairway door, closing it and pressing his back to it as the team split up.

The human leader started down the hall with Kain and Heather behind him while the other four moved in the opposite direction, flashlights illuminated the halls but they slowly faded as the other seven got further and further from the bear who was on guard.

Slipping up against the wall to the right the human leaders team moves into a single line with their right shoulders nearly touching the walls, and doors that had who knows what behind them. Finally coming to a corner and quickly moving around it with his flashlight aimed, the two others moving to his right and left illuminating the entire hallway. The three visibly tensed as they saw blood staining the floor, walls and ceiling, there were no bodies though nor were there any weapons or pieces of clothing, but bullet cases riddled the floor while holes were dug into the ceiling, walls and floor.

He slowly turned his head from the left to right before looking over his shoulder, as if waiting for something to come up behind them. "We're getting out of here," he said in a hushed tone before taking a step back, which was mimicked by his team, slowly backing away being as quiet as they possibly could.

Turning the corner with the leader and one of the other team facing the hallway they had just backed out of, the third member facing the other way leading them back toward Nuke who was still guarding the door. The large bear seeing the flashlight from down the hall raised his weapon but lowered it slowly as soon as he noticed who it was. They moved back to the door to the stairs before the leader tapped the shoulder of the one next to him.

"Heather, you and me are going to go get the others, I'm not risking radio noise in case there are any Stranded around." The one next to him nodded then turned around and started slowly down the hallway.

Turning to Nuke and the one that had to be Kain. "You two wait here and get ready for us to head out." The two of them nodded before standing back to back, watching both ways as Heather and the human moved down the hallway that the other four members of the team had moved down. The two moved quickly and silently, since there was no snow in the hallways their boots were silent against the lightly carpeted floor, at the end of the hallway there was a left just like the opposite end, turned right in the traditional square shape, like most skyscraper corporate buildings.

Aiming around the corner, they quickly found that the hall was empty, no sign of the other four of the team. The leader looked to Heather then they both started down the hallway but found no signs of the rest of the team, soon they came to the final left turn before they looped back and with a quick glance around the corner they found them. The other four were standing in front of a door with blood staining the walls, ceiling and floor just like on the hallway to the left of the stairs, holes and slash marks dug into the walls and ceiling. The other four took aim at Heather and the human as they saw them.

Lifting his right hand and motioning for the others to come to him which they did quickly without question, once they got close enough to the two then the leader spoke in a hushed tone.

"We're getting out, HotIce is gone." With that he turned and started back down the hallway, moving fast yet quietly.

The team made it back to the staircase with silent nods before Nuke opened the door for them but everything froze as static came over the leader's radio. All stared at him as he pulled the handheld from his harness again as the static cut off only to start back up again. The static cut off then started three more times before it resumed, then a low growl started but quickly grew into a loud ear-piercing scream. He quickly reached up and turned the radio off to silence the noise, only to have another distant scream echo up from the lower levels on the staircase.

Looking into the stairwell and quickly without a single word spoken everyone began charging up the stairs. The team's boots echoed down the stairs but a distant clacking noise began to cover their boot steps, the clacking sounding like that of claws hitting the metal stairs, only they were hitting too fast to be a two legged creature. Without looking back the team quickly made it up five stories before another scream echoed throughout the stairwell, the last of the team which was the bear Nuke spun around mid way up a set of stairs.

He raised his rifle and quickly fired a short burst before turning and running up the stairs again. He didn't take the time to aim or even look at what was there since he already knew what it was and wasn't going to waste time trying to get his aim perfect as other screams from others echoed right after he fired his weapon. The team continued charging up the stairs without a second to lose, the one in the lead quickly threw his shoulder into the stairwell door and ran out into the light with the rest of the team right behind him.

The team didn't stop as they charged out of the stairwell, continuing their run straight out of the entire building before all spinning and moving into a line, four crouched on one knee with the other four standing right behind them, all rifles aimed at the single window opening. The team was quickly joined by six other arctic clothed figures who lined up beside them, carrying the same M16A1' rifles. Now the line of fourteen stood firmly with all their weapons lined at the opening that led into the building.

Moments passed that seemed like years before the weapons were slowly lowered, turning to look at one another before goggles were raised showing the tops of faces. The other six turned out to be a male and female human, a male german shepherd, a lioness, a male fox and a female cat. The two teams separated and the human who was leading the team of seven stepped toward the male german shepherd,

"Carl, where's HotIce?" the german shepherd said firmly as he looked over the humans team.

"They're gone, we checked the floor and only found round cases and blood, signs of Stranded as well as Screachers that chased us back up here," the german shepherd nodded before looking into the building through the smashed window that was used for an entrance.

"Did you find the bodies or did you just see blood and turn tail?" The german shepherd's tone had changed to an annoyed pitch while Carl, the human's expression turned to slightly angered.

"I'm not going to risk my team in a search for corpses!" Now the german shepherd was angry and showed it with a loud snarl and show of fangs.

"So you just ran without even finding them, what if they dug in somewhere, you did nothing but scan the area without doing a full search, what kind of..." the german shepherd was interrupted by a shout from Carl.

"I'm not getting my team and myself killed for those that are already dead, you know as well as I do that HotIce didn't make it..." he yelled out before moving past the german shepherd by shoving him aside. "You want to find the bodies then take your ass and your team down there and find them yourself," with that the other seven that made up Carl's team started after him.

The german shepherd turned and glared fiercely at the group before looking at the building's entrance. His eyes shifted to his team as he thought over the just said conversation, it only took a moment before he sighed. "Alright, we're leaving, no point in risking ourselves." With that he and his team started after the others, leaving the building to silence save for the howl of the wind.
