#4 of F. (Initial Concept)

Chapter four.. I cannot believe it. This might have been the hardest chapter yet. Thankfully, I was able to push through and get the entire thing done in one go. This sumission officially makes F. one of my longest standing projects.. I really do hope you enjoy the story as we go deeper now into things. And as always, be ready for a twist~ :)

Felix lay there in his bed, staring up at the ceiling. It was almost impossible to sleep. So much had happened to him today that he just couldn't get over. Meeting Kaiser was like a dream come true. A godsend. Finally, he had made a friend. Someone who actually wanted to spend time with him. Talk to him. Even share feelings and past events. This is exactly what he'd wanted for years now..

Many more minutes passed, still no dice. The fox growled and smashed his face into the pillow. This was going to be a long night. Felix's heart was racing, and his stomach felt like it was doing somersaults. Why was he so anxious? What on earth was making him so nervous? Most important, why was Kaiser the only thing on his mind?

"Alright, that's it." The fox muttered, kicking off his over sized blanket and sliding his slender body up and out of bed. He needed to work his mind a bit, maybe that would tire him out. He snatched up his phone form the nightstand, blinding himself as he turned on his screen to check the time. "11:50PM" Not terrible.. He could make this work. He then tossed the phone to his bed and made off towards his desk, grabbing his sketch book and a pencil.

...Maybe drawing would help...

As he made his way down the hall and towards his living room, he squinted, feeling along the wall like a blind person until he found the light switch, bringing the table lamp beside his couch to life. He needed somewhere cozy but not too cozy.

THUMP

The fox quickly plopped down on the couch, curling up with his sketch book and pencil. He scratched at his head. What to draw? The fox pondered for a good while before shrugging and starting to doodle. Whatever came to mind would suffice. A line here, a line there. Scribble scribble. The fox doodled on, getting lost in his thoughts. He thought about the previous day's events, his "swan dive", and how his knight in shining armor was there to rescue him. He giggled and shook his head, continuing on as his mind worked. He began to think about the hugs, the tears, the laughs. It was all so touching to him. Then the eyes came back. So blue and mysterious. He fell into a deeper state of thought as he drew, pencil working in overtime now as he daydreamed about the shepherd.

He could see him so clearly, as if he stood right before him once more. His beautiful brown fur, the patterns around his muzzle and eyes. That adorable smile he got when you embarrassed him. He could hear his voice, feel his breath over his ears, the thumping of his heart. He felt the embrace, squeezing him tight, comforting him. Then he felt his lips...

...Whoa...

Felix snapped out of his trance, shaking his head. As he looked down at the paper before him, he was dumbfounded. Like what lay in his lap was the creation of someone other than himself. Did he really just draw that?

On the paper before his eyes, there he was, clear as day... Kaiser. It was a perfect recreation, his entire face, sketched onto a paper with nothing but a dull drafting pencil. Felix sat there, pondering for awhile. What in the hell was he so obsessed with this dog for? He felt ashamed almost. Like a creep. Kaiser was just a friend. Someone who was nice to him. Someone he had only just met. That didn't mean he had hung the moon. He was just a friend.

...Or was he?...

"Yes, god dammit, he is!." The fox said aloud as he slammed the sketch book down on the coffee table and stood up. This was ridiculous, and he was exhausted. It was time for bed. He had lunch tomorrow with his new friend after all.

A quick glass of water, followed by a flip of a switch, and then it was back to the dark den for Felix, crawling head first into his bed and hiding away. What a day it had been.. All he wanted now was to sleep.

The fox shut his eyes and sighed, letting his body relax fully as he fell numb, slipping off into a world in which he knew how to navigate better than anyone else..

...His dreams...

________________________________________________________________________________________

Darkness. That was all to be seen, the world around was black. No sign of life. Upon his feet he felt the sensation of warmth, slowly slithering its way up and around his legs, soothing him further. He fell back, letting himself become enraptured by the heat, sending soothing sensations of pleasure down his spine. It took him further down, pulling him into it's lair, securing him in a blanket of sheer bliss. His muscles, no longer ached. His heart, no longer trembled. His mind, no longer clouded.

He opened his eyes finally, revealing to him a beautiful scene. He lay on a beach, surrounded by golden sand that stretched for miles, complimenting the calming waves that slid ashore. They mesmerized him as they slid in and out of his reach, just beyond his feet keeping him cool. Above him the sun shone beautifully, adding to the atmosphere around him, lighting the way. The sky was blue, a very deep blue, almost like the ocean before his feet. "How lovely.". He thought to himself. Then, he heard it. It was laughing, coming in just over the sound of washing waves. But where?

He sat up now, looking around to see what may be near by. Beyond him, along the miles of beach, it was truly a sight to see. There were furs of all different sizes and species running around, just enjoying themselves. Some lay half buried in the sand while their friends hauled buckets up to finish the job. Others relaxed upon a blanket or towel, a colorful umbrella shading them. There was a group playing volleyball just to his left, and another building sandcastles to his left.. Out in the water, the daring rode the waves, while the more cautious waded around closer to shore. This was what Summer in Cape Cavada looked like..

Finally, the beach bum stood to his feet, brushing the sand from his fur and shaking off a bit. Maybe there was someone he knew here..

He walked around for a bit, just watching the scenes unfold before him. He caught a glimpse of a few familiar faces, those who he passed in the halls or on the street, but nobody he truly knew. Time marched on.

He continued to walk along the water's edge, scanning the groups for someone, anyone. But he never found them. Soon it became a mission. He had to find someone. It was almost as if he were seeking someone specific.

...But who?...

The groups grew much more dense now, and he practically began wading through the crowd of furs, still seeking out that which his mind screamed at his to find. They weren't here, whoever they were.. So where would they be? He began to think... Somewhere away from here...

"Of course!" he thought, quickly shooting off in a direction away from the others, slipping through them like butter. ..The one he seeked out would never be caught in a crowd..

On and on he pushed for what felt like hours, until suddenly the crowd started thinning out in a rather quick manner. Disappearing. Leaving him the only one on the beach now.

...Where'd they all go?...

He looked around confused, suddenly alone, not a single fur in sight. He swung around to look behind him. Nothing. Not a soul. Now this was just too strange.

He shook it off and returned to his path, stopping dead in his tracks as his eyes made out something in the distance. It was the one he seeked... It had to be! The shadowy figure stay hidden by a silhouette as light from the sun above poured down upon the two, but even then he knew it was them! He began to run towards them, excited to finally find his target.

He ran and ran, beginning to feel himself running out of stamina as he pushed harder through the sand. Something wasn't right...

No matter how fast he went, nor how hard he pushed, his target stay standing still, and just as far away as when he started.. No. Nonsense. He just needed to go farther!

He ran faster, and faster, feeling the sand grab his feet tighter and tighter each time now, making it harder to move. What was happening? Why wasn't he moving?

He pushed harder. Struggling to move much more as the figure stay glued to one spot, neither further nor closer. He began to feel the warmth of the sand encroaching upon his knees, then his thighs. He was sinking!

He began to panic, fighting harder than ever before to pull himself out of the ground as it swallowed him whole, squeezing his body and restricting much further movement. He screamed. Trying to get the figure's attention. But it never moved. It just stood there watching as he sank deeper into the ground, sand covering every inch of him, until he was gone...

Darkness. Again, he felt himself covered in the warmth. Unable to move as his muscles relaxed and his breathing slowed. The feelings overcame him once again, forcing his body to calm itself. It was then that he felt something new. A sensation that was strangely comfortable... But wet.

...Water...

His eyes burst open, and like that, the dreamer was surrounded by nothing but pure blue water. He panicked for a moment, fearing that he was drowning, until he noticed that he could breathe just fine.. Like a fish.. Weird.

He began to swim around for a bit, just letting the cool water slide along his fur as he explored the depths. He followed schools of fish, watching them as they journeyed on to their destinations. He swirled about with jellyfish and sea turtles, learning how they lived. He even raced a shark, and rode a dolphin..

For days he lived within the sea, swimming here and there. He floated along with his eyes closed, just sinking down to the ocean floor. This was his home now. So quiet. Yet so alive. So peaceful. So majestic. It wasn't until he heard the crash, that he felt the need to move again.

His eyes opened, and he darted up once more, searching for the source of the loud crash. What on earth was that? It was so heavy that he felt the vibrations. Whatever it was, it hadn't been here before...

He continued to search, swimming around, passing walls and walls of fish. Where was it? Maybe further out?

He swam on, determined to find the source of his disturbance.. It wasn't until minutes later that he finally found something.. A clue perhaps?

...Bubbles...

An entire trail of them actually. Leading down, deeper and deeper towards the ocean floor. Whatever it was, it couldn't breathe... It needed help.

Down he went like a torpedo, following the trail of bubbles deeper and deeper, his light source fading. But he had to find it!

He pushed his paws out in front of him now, using them to feel along as he blindly dove, completely covered in darkness, it was then that he felt it.

He grabbed a hold, tugging. It was heavy whatever it was, and felt soft like him.. Furry even.. He rushed up, trying to go towards the light, but the weight of the mysterious one just kept pulling him down. He fought and fought, tugging with all his might, but it was no use. ..He let go..

...It was time to leave...

So up he went, zooming past the creatures of the sea as he approached the top at an alarming rate. He was practically shooting up now, getting closer and closer to the surface. ..He couldn't slow down..

Finally, he broke the surface, shooting up and into the sky, soaring up into the clouds, mingling with the birds on mounds of puffy white pillows. He was flying! ..Or so he thought..

Eventually his momentum finally leveled out, and he fell. Plummeting towards the ground. Except there was no ground. In fact, there wasn't anything at all.

Where did the water go? Where was the beach? Where was anything?! He thought as he fell infinitely, his world becoming swallowed yet again by the black abyss.

...Again. Blinded....

This was becoming all too familiar now. But where was the warmth? What happened to the blanket? The soothing serpent that calmed his nerves? Where did everything go?..

He was trapped in infinity. Floating along in a state of awareness while he stay surrounded by absolutely nothing at all. Maybe this was the end?..

Suddenly, he felt it. Only this time, it was much different. Much more organic. It had a heartbeat that he could hear. Breath, warmly washing over his neck. It had paws, rubbing down his back and along his shoulders. He smiled. Whatever it was, it knew how to soothe him. And soothe it did, massaging his muscles as he fell back against it, hot breath breathing into his ears. It was then that he heard a voice, so very familiar.

"Why did you let go?.." It said.

The dreamer then turned his head to meet the face of the voice, lit up plain as day while everything else around it stay hidden.. It was a fox.. With big ears, long black hair and glowing amber eyes..

Kaiser's eyes then popped open, heart racing as he shot up in his bed, looking around his messy room, confirming he was alone, and finally, awake.

...It was only a dream...
