#1 of The Lion's Spots

This is the beginning of a story series I've been working on with my mate over the last few months, the characters are directly based on us and this series will be a product of our hopes and dreams of what the future will hold for us.

Matt awoke earlier than normal one morning, with only one thing on his mind; This was it, finally the day had come when he would get to meet his mate in person. They had chatted for innumerate hours on the internet since he'd asked Eagle to become his mate, and both had been looking forward to this day for many months. The only thing that now stood in the way of getting with his lover was having to spend the day at work before going to collect Eagle from the airport.

The 21 year old lion slipped out of bed and wandered into the shower, his eyes still slightly blurry from sleep. He quickly turned on the water, discarded his boxers and slipped into the stream of hot water from the shower head. He took his a shower just like any other, liberally applying shampoo to his dark mane and the rest of his tawny fur, massaging the lather into his skin before rinsing it off under the hot water.

With his fur now completely clean, he slipped out of the shower and towelled his fur dry, this making his mane fuzz out, and he giggles slightly as he notices how it looked in the mirror. He grabs the brush and starts pulling it through his mane, making it look somewhat more respectable before getting dressed, pulling on his trousers and shirt before grabbing a slice of toast for breakfast and heading out for work.

Across the world, an anthro cheetah, of marginal size compared to the tiger sitting next to him who was no less than 7 foot tall was drifting through a world of dreams. He was lucky to have got the window seat, so he didn't have to lean on his neighbor. In his dreams, images of the next few days, weeks, and months came across his mind, which made him smile to himself in his sleep. This was his second flight in one night and they were now somewhere over Louisiana last he heard, and were heading to the UK as of this moment. It would last several hours, so the cheetah was using this time to catch up on the sleep which he lost in the past 2 days over thoughts of meeting his mate for the first time...

And such a wonderful time they would have, he was sure of it. The plans were mostly made out, but the idea he was most looking forward to would be their first meeting ... he could see that now. The cheetah running at full speed toward the lion and embedding his muzzle deep within Matt's golden-brown mane. They would kiss, but perhaps avoiding attention might be the best thing to do. But oh, that first hug was all Eagle needed to make up for all of that distance that had kept him and his mate apart.

And now ... the oceans could no longer take it from them, nor the mountains, deserts, buildings, nothing was stopping Eagle now, not even the persistent voice which was running down the isle, suggesting "peanuts? peanuts?" he breathed contently, and his head lolled against the window.

The clock slowly ticked around to 4:30pm, and Matt finally headed out from work, the day having passed in a blur to start with from the anticipation of finally meeting his mate. He'd got some funny looks from he colleagues during the day at the times when he'd drifted off into a daydream, imagining the moment when he first meets his mate. Now finally he was free to head off to the airport.

He walked briskly to his car, not wanting to appear overly rushed to his workmates, but also wanting to get into the car and get driving to meet his mate as soon as possible. He started the engine and connected his MP3 player to the radio, setting a play-list of Jethro Tull long enough to last him as far as the airport. The music was hardly heard as he drove though, his mind wandering to think of the beautiful and sexy cheetah that he would be meeting in just over two short hours.

The journey passed surprisingly quickly, despite getting caught in the rush hour traffic as he headed into London to get to Heathrow Airport where the love of his life was due to arrive. As he approached the airport he could see the planes coming in to land, and imagined his mate siting on one of them and looking out of the window onto his car, although he knew he'd be far too small to see from the planes as he swung into the car park. He hopped out of his car, and hurried into the terminal building, scanning the arrivals list for the flight number, then dashing off towards the gate at which it indicated he would find his mate.

"Welcome to Heathrow International Airport" came a voice, which caused Eagle to awaken, first opening one eye then another. Sure enough, they were descending over the very green landscape that was England. He brought his paw over his head, and stroked his head-fur back, then realized that he was sitting halfway down in his seat. He was really hot for some reason. He couldn't recall his last dream, but either it was really pleasant, or really disturbing. He doubted it was the latter, and sighed. That trip was far too short to get any decent sleep, but nonetheless, he was glad it wasn't any longer.

"...return your seat back in the up-right position" he himself could not help but chuckle as he remembered his George Carlin skit which he left on his computer at home. He really did travel light for this trip, enough clothes to last him for one week, and the essentials, toothbrush, comb, and art stuffs. They all fit in one suitcase which he was allowed to take on board the aircraft. He looked to his left, and saw that the large Tiger was stirring, and across the isle, a snow leopard and her cub scurrying around for all the crayons lost around the seat.

The cheetah sat upright in his seat, and stretched for a few minutes, his spotty paws extending as far as they could upward, making his body appear far slimmer than usual. He then leaned back into his chair, and waited for the plane to land and come to a "complete stop". At that point, everyone around him seemed to be scrambling to gather their things. The plane had now stopped and had connected with the terminal. Finally!

Eagle actually chirped when he shifted upwards in his seat, so that he got quite a look from his Tiger neighbor. He flushed underneath his fur, and waited for him to get out of the seat so he could grab his own luggage from the overhead compartment. When it finally was possible, he got up and out of his seat, and pulled his light suitcase out of the compartment and landed it on the floor. He widened his smile, and walked toward the door of the plane with his head held high.

Another reason why he was hot, probably, was because he had on a large pair of jeans which he had bought a week ago. He did not feel like going to replace them at Target again, so he just kept them, complete with a belt. He had no shirt, thankfully it was not mandatory for males to wear upper-wear on airplanes and he thought it was always silly when they did. He looked around and saw that he was the only one, however. Not that he cared or anything, it'd just make him easier to spot. He continued through the terminal passage (how comforting) and finally arrived in the terminal itself, where he looked for Matt...

***************************************

Matt stood at the exit from the arrivals lounge for the gate from which Eagle was soon to appear according to the flight arrivals display, and scanned the faces of the passengers emerging from the disembarkation tunnel. He held a small, well viewed photo in his paw, although he already knew the face that appeared on the square of paper by heart, it was just reflexive to hold it. He saw the distinctive slender spotted legs of a cheetah, although mostly obscured by jeans, appear around the corner, the rest of their body obscured by a large maned wolf.

He clutched the photo in his paw to his chest as he willed the wolf to move out of the way so that he could see the rest of the cheetahs body and face, hoping that it was his love. As the wolf moved to one side so that he could enter the restroom, the cheetahs bare chest and then is face were exposed for Matt to see. He almost dropped the photo as he saw his long awaited lover walking through the crowd to the exit doors next to him. The urge to just run forward and hug the cheetah was almost undeniable, but he was unable to enter the arrivals lounge and had to stand and wait outside the glass doors for his love to make it through the bustling crowd to him.

Looking at the cheetah wearing only a rather baggy pair of trousers held up with a belt and nothing else, the lion couldn't help but feel somewhat over dressed having just come from work wearing a shirt and smart trousers. Normally, he'd have discarded his shirt as soon as he left work, but he'd not thought about it as he'd been in such a rush to get to the airport in time to meet the flight.

The cheetah was now coming close to the double glass doors of the arrivals lounge, although he'd once again disappeared into the throng, so Matt couldn't tell if he'd seen him waiting outside or not. This hardly mattered however, as he could see the cheetahs paws crossing the threshold of the lounge now...

***************************************

"This is a very stupid setup" thought Eagle as he glanced around the Terminal, somewhat confused. He felt someone pushing past him to flow with the rest of the crowd ... then he realized that he should keep moving forward. He was very excited, and nervous for the first time, he would be seeing his mate at any time... he almost couldn't believe it was actually happening!

He nearly melted at these thoughts flowing through his mind as he continued to roll his luggage through the gate, and finally arrived on the other side, letting a wolf hold the door open for him as he passed through. After he thanked the wolf, and stepped out of the crowd's way, he stopped and looked around for his mate. He knew exactly what he looked like, but in the sea of fur, it was proving rather difficult.

He looked down on both of his sides, and on his right, he finally saw who he had come to see, and dropping his luggage where it was, cried out in a loud, and obviously American, slightly chirpy voice, "Matt!" He began to run toward the lion, forgetting about every other thing in the world besides the one he was running to right now...

***************************************

Matt spun around upon hearing his name called from a short distance to his left, and immediately saw the long awaited sight of his mate, running towards him, his baggage abandoned on the floor where he'd dropped it upon spotting Matt. Before the lion had a chance to move towards his mate, the cheetah had reached him and flung his arms around the larger felines neck, hugging him dearly. Matt wrapped his own arms around the slender spotted body of the cheetah, holding him close and kissing him gently on his forehead. He didn't care about the looks this gained them from the other passenger, the only thing that mattered to him was that Eagle was finally with him.

"You have no idea how long I've been looking forward to this moment, my love" he spoke quietly into the cheetahs ear before giving him a quick kiss on the end of his nose. "C'mon, lets get out of here, there's too many people", before wrapping his arm around his mate and walking side-by-side with him towards the exit, picking up the bag of luggage on route.

Together, they exited the terminal building arm in arm, and began making their way across the car park to find Matts car. During the walk they exchanged small talk, both still slightly overwhelmed by the fact that they were together at last, talking about the plane flights and a rather cute male Jaguar flight attendant that Eagle had been served by during the flight. They both giggled slightly when Eagle tried to describe the Jaguar, but couldn't remember anything other than what his ass looked like.

Upon reaching the car, Matt opened the boot and stashed the cheetahs small luggage bag inside, "I see you've left a nice lot of your baggage allowance for souvenirs then", before shutting the boot as Eagle replied, "Yeah, I usually travel light" as Matt opened the doors for him and Eagle to get in. Sitting down in the car, they both closed the doors, shutting out the world before they leaned across the car and locked their muzzles together in a passionate kiss, their lips pressing together as they embraced each other. Matt felt the cheetahs rough tongue probing against his teeth, and he opened his mouth slightly to let it slide into his own muzzle, sharing the taste of Eagle's saliva as their two tongues intertwined. They kissed for what felt like an hour before gently breaking their lips apart, surfacing for air and both panting slightly from the intensity of the kiss.

They slowly drew back, this first kiss being a moment they wanted to savour, neither of them saying anything for several minutes after the kiss, just looking lovingly into each others eyes. The moment was broken by a rumbling sound from Matts belly as it reminded him that it was now almost eight hours since he'd had lunch, resulting in a round of giggling from the two felines. After a quick discussion, they decided that they'd got back into the terminal to get something to eat from the Subway franchise. The studied the menu before deciding what they wanted to eat; Eagle having a six inch meatball sub, while Matt chose the foot-long all day breakfast. They grabbed a bottle of Coke each before sitting down on a bench in the concourse to eat their food.

As they finished eating, they both got up from the bench, and dropped the wrappers from their meals into a waste bin. As they looked at each other, Eagle grinned, and then licked up a stray splodge of brown sauce that had found it's way onto Matts chin from his sub. Matt chuckled slightly at the sight of his mate cleaning the sauce from his chin, and gently kissed him on the forehead in thanks, before wrapping his arm around Eagle and leading him back outside to the car.

This time, they kissed again, uninterrupted by stomachs rumbling, before Matt popped the key into the car ignition and turned it, the engine purring into life. Before pulling off, Matt rummaged around in the glove-box, pulling out his MP3 player and attaching it to the car radio before handing it to Eagle to choose some music for the journey back to his flat, prompting the cheetah to chirp loudly. It took until they had left the car park for Eagle to decided that he would put the player on shuffle after looking at all the albums on there and failing to decide which one he wanted to put on. Both the lion and the cheetah giggled when the first song that played on shuffle was 'Bungle in the Jungle", which they both sang along to as Matt drove onto the motorway to begin the uneventful 90 minute drive back to his flat.

"Eagle, wake up Eagle, we're home", the words came floating into the cheetahs mind as he slowly awakened, having fallen asleep about halfway back, the lack of sleep for the past few days having finally gotten the best of him. He opened his eyes to the darkness of the car park, illuminated dimly by the light spilling from the windows of the flats, before climbing out of the car to see Matt carrying his suitcase and giving him a loving kiss, before he lead the way into the building and up the stairs into the flat. Once inside they headed straight for Matts bedroom, both of them completely exhausted after each having a tiring day. They both undressed and slipped into the bed together, quickly falling asleep in each others arms, enjoying the shared warmth and the feel of each others fur, together at last.
