Known History: Jason Barrows is a very well known public figure. Since age twenty-two, he has made many public appearances both inside of and outside of his Mighty Steel armor. Many of the populace see Mighty Steel and Mr. Barrows as pillars of the community and champions of justice, and while some would choose to use that to their advantage, Mr. Barrows has shown no signs of such ambition.

Details of Mr. Barrows' childhood are unclear due to his current celebrity status and the rumor mongering that comes with it. We do know that he was an only child who lived in the slum township of Riverside before national restructuring unified Riverside and the surrounding townships into United City. He was the son of a policeman and though his mother abandoned them when Jason was only five years old, he never resorted to crime as so many of his peers did. In fact, the only police records the Defense Council has of illegal activity involving Mr. Barrows are when he was arrested for acting outside of the law to ensure criminals were captured.

At age fifteen, his physical strength increased dramatically and Barrows realized that he could run faster and maintain a sprint longer than most others of his age. He quickly began using this to his advantage against dangerous criminals near his home in Riverside. When asked why he began acting outside of the law, Barrows usually tells a story about seeing two of his starving classmates in the slums being beaten often by the same group of bullies. Eventually, he decided to take action against the abuse when telling teachers and other authority figures accomplished nothing. It is unclear whether or not this story is true.

Some individuals who claim to have known Barrows when he was younger, have said that his methods back then were brutal and very nearly killed some of the criminals he apprehended. This is not uncommon for Defenders who are not accustomed to their abilities, however these witnesses also claim that teenaged Barrows seemed to take a perverse pleasure in making his victims suffer. This is a very different picture of the philanthropist known today by the entirety of United City and usually such stories are declared slander and petty defamation by local media and the Mighty Steel fan base.

When the United City restructuring began, crime did not diminish as analysts had predicted it would and instead, Barrows' hometown, Riverside, became a haven for gangs and other criminals despite increased police presence. Weapons became more advanced and criminals with supernatural abilities began to surface as well, which only escalated the rate of crime in the township. When Barrows was eighteen, his father was fatally shot in the line of duty by a supernatural felon who called himself "Ironsight." In an attempt to capture Ironsight and avenge his father, Barrows went after the felon with a zealotry few Defenders have been able to match since. In the resulting confrontation, Ironsight nearly killed Barrows, but was eventually subdued for capture by the authorities.

It should be known that Barrows did not kill Ironsight despite the violence he displayed when dealing with the felon's underlings. There were no witnesses during their confrontation, so only Barrows and Ironsight know what transpired between them. After the capture of Ironsight, Barrows vanished for several years from the city.

He returned at age twenty-two with a remarkably advanced suit of armor and a new name: "Mighty Steel." It is theorized that Barrows' armor was manufactured by Stonewall Robotics, but that has never been proven. With this new identity came a change in Barrows' vigilantism to a less violent style. He was also not shy about revealing his true identity, and began publicly lobbying lawmakers to create the Defense Council as we know it. Barrows spearheaded the organization until age thirty-three when he passed off leadership to government officials that he personally knew and trusted.

Mighty Steel has stayed on as a regular Defender and despite his age, still spars with the younger personnel in training on a regular basis. Barrows also remembers every new Defender's birthday and often surprises them with small gifts. Defenders trained by him say he is strict, but fair, and his attitude outside of training is described as jovial and good natured, though his brand of humor (primarily puns) can be a bit grating at times.

Ability Details: Barrows possesses super strength and is currently capable of shifting and lifting weight of up to ten tons. He can also strike with excessive force. During a combat test, Barrows completely destroyed one of the striking test machines. The readout on the machine immediately before its destruction read nine thousand tons of force. Because of this, constant improvements to testing equipment are being made.

Barrows has been clocked at fifty-five miles per hour when sprinting at full speed without the assistance of his mechanized armor. The on board propulsion system in his armor allows him to sprint at one hundred and twenty miles per hour and fly at nearly two hundred miles per hour.

Mighty Steel's weaponry consists of one shoulder mounted tear gas grenade launcher, one shoulder mounted net launcher, a sonic emitter for stunning purposes, two wrist mounted stun guns, and a torso plate mounted fire suppression system. The armor itself is bulletproof, can withstand strikes of ten thousand tons of force, can function in sub-zero temperatures, and can withstand temperatures of up to three thousand degrees kelvin. While the outer surface of the armor is conductive, an insulation layer under the surface protects the armor's mechanized systems and Barrows himself from electrical attacks and lightning strikes. Outside of the Mighty Steel armor, Barrows does not possess any form of natural invulnerability.

Much study has been performed on Mighty Steel's natural abilities at his request and his abilities have increased since the Defense Council's inception. Barrows' strength has steadily improved and he has developed a mnemonic talent that allows him to copy nearly any physical action immediately after only a single viewing. He must be able to see the action taking place in order to copy it, therefore he cannot mimic the abilities of other Defenders or supernatural criminals. It is unclear how this particular ability manifested, but it increases Barrows' combat prowess significantly enough to require his reclassification from an A Class Defender into the S Class.

The psychologist on staff reports that Barrows is unusually charitable and perhaps kind to a fault. He strives to please everybody and make sure that every Defender and citizen of the city has what they need to be happy. Perhaps this behavior is a result of an unhappy childhood, but we can never know for certain as Barrows is unwilling to talk much about his youth.

Jason Barrows is an exceptional Defender. The Defense Council would be nothing without him.
