The Grizzly bear plunged his muzzle into the stream, sending a crystalline spray up around his light muzzle. Snow crunched beneath his paws, not yet having retreated from the valleys where heavy snowfalls alternated with rain through the mild days and cool nights of May. The lick of winter on the air, slow to recede in its hungry hold, still brought a chill to his paws. Drawing his muzzle back, refreshed, he lapped thirstily, scooping water into his blocky muzzle as he watched and listened with great attention for any other being that could have been friend or foe.

He lifted his head, water dripping from his muzzle as he caught a scent on the breeze, black nose snuffling loudly. Being the top of the food chain in the mountains did not exclude him from enemies and he'd seen a cougar around within the last week, though they were as solitary, if not more so, than his kind. He would not have liked to come face to face with a cougar and therefore kept a wary eye about him as he moved across his range, one paw landing heavily after the other as he kept on the move.

He did not know that part of his range stretched into what mankind called Grand Teton National Park, found in Wyoming, and did not care. Like the rest of his kind, he tolerated human beings as long as they left him well enough alone - the same as with other bears. Of course, territories would overlap with tensions rising from time to time, but there was little cause for discourse when prey was plentiful and berries abundant on the slopes.

No, it was far better to live in peace. He had other more important matters pushing to the forefront of his mind as a stirring in the pit of his belly told him that the mating season had begun.

Paddingalong the bank above the stream, he snuffed the air again, unsatisfied with what he had read from his original sampling of the scent. It was not normal, something he did not come across very often. He swayed his head from side to side with the roll of his thickly furred shoulders, the fur coating his body enough to protect him from the worst of the cold as his world crept into summer. But what was that scent? He could not place it. But it had been so long that he could not be blamed for faulting it.

He paused at a tree, scratched and rubbed so that the bark had been worn through, though not all the way down - as if a bear had passed by several times, but only made the spot the outskirts of theirterritory. He would have frowned, if a grizzly bear had been able to frown, and placed his back on the trunk, making his own mark. Rubbing loosening fur from his back - it would soon serve a greater use when he was properly shedding - he rumbled softly to himself and absorbed himself in the strange scent that could only be another bear. What were theydoing crossing into his territory?

But of course. His beady eyes shone. He had it - he had it good and clear now! The scent was not foe, but it was certainly friend!

A female. He turned his muzzle up to the weak sun, stretching its first rays down into the valley as morning crawled on. He scraped a huge paw through the dirt, leaving a trail of claw marks in its wake and let out a rare grunt, sides heaving as he made the sound carry. A female had entered his territory!

And she was not far away either. Snuffling anxiously at the bark, he sped off with as much pace as a brown bear could muster, lolloping up the slope to the peak as her scent intensified, blossoming as if all she had needed was for him to recognise that she was there. She had left a strong trail for him and he splattered into mud as the snow dropped away, weaving between evergreen trees as he sought her out, heart pounding in his barrel chest.

As he ran, his erection slid from his furry sheath, so covered with fur that it was difficult to point out against the swathe of his belly. Thinner than one may have expected for a creature of his size, it bounced and bobbed against his stomach as he ran, her scent triggering something deeper in him that day to day instinct could not explain. His paws pounded over rock and he sucked in a breath, panting as his nostrils flared. She was close, so very close.

He was upon her before he even realised and bounced his forepaws as she circled him, appearing to be lumbering even though the similarly coloured bear was certainly agile as she bounded to meet him. She seemed to take in his measure as he made his move - there was little time for courting when daily life was an exercise in survival.

She was receptive and she was his. He panted over her side, butting heads as they shared their scent fleetingly, both as eager as the other. She wanted him, she was not going to chase him off. That was all he needed to know.

Scooting up behind the female, he pushed himself over her back, the cool of her fur seeping into his underbelly. He could not care in the moment, however, too concerned with the carnality of mating, breeding, bringing in the next generation. His seed would further his line and ensure his strength was passed on. As he pushed, hips jerking, he sought her entrance, pushing over her small tail and nudging the small head of his long, slim shaft towards what he hoped was what he craved. She shook her head and pushed back into him, eagerness lacing her every movement.

As the bear's length eased down through her fur, the female twisted to look at him, shuddering as he struck home and pushed the entire length inside her in one slick thrust. She stepped back into him, ensuring he was firmly seated as he thrust lightly, making only very short, fluttering jabs into her sex. An animal had little to gain in enjoying the experience of sex, which, when it was offered, was as fleeting yet as expected as the sunrise. That didn't stop their bodies, however, from experiencing such delight. His cock spurted, seeding her already with those little thrusts as she rumbled beneath him, sides reverberating lightly. The male bear leaned into her, revelling in her warmth as he brushed his muzzle over the back of her neck, nose pushing through her thick fur.

Once orgasm had claimed him, spurts of cum secure in her passage, he remained perfectly still, seemingly content to rest on her back. The grizzly bear snorted softly, nuzzling over her ears as he pushed forward, enjoying the sensation the best he could of being deep inside a female - a scrap of pleasure in an otherwise cruel world. To any observer, he may have been recovering, preparing to make good his escape before the female decided that she didn't quite have enough prey to tolerate him on her scrap of territory. However, the male had more to give, hips working again as he hunched, keeping his cock deep in her snatch as he thrust rapidly, his movements so small that it was as if he didn't want to pull out of her.

She trembled, his slick cock easing over what served as her clitoris, cradled within her sex, over and over again, the short, prying strokes of his shaft drawing a subtle groan of pleasure from her lips. Scraping a paw through the dirt, she rolled her head and twisted, looking at the male claiming her as she trembled into him, feeling his seed, once again, splash into her passage. Two climaxes would ensure a litter in her belly, but a bear could never be too certain these days. Times were harsh and she may only have ten cubs throughout the course of her entire lifetime. Half of those would face a bitter end before even reaching the cusp of adulthood, born into a harsh world when winter once again snarled over the land.

The male pushed his head over her shoulder, rubbing his cheek against hers as she relaxed into his touch as he stilled once more, cock shoved deep into her. Her passage twitched as she ducked her head, pushing back into the warmth of his body as he snorted, sides moving gently as he panted for breath. Her own breath frosted lightly before her muzzle, telling a tale of how the air was not quite as mild as promised on the wind, the lick of spring and summer tantalising as they mated. The bears were undoubtedly warmer than anything else around them at that time, the heat of their liaison giving rise to stringent pleasure.

Clutching the female around her sides, he pressed deep and juddered into her once again, swaying lightly from side to side as they took what pleasure they could from the mating. Her back hunched as she trembled, nostrils flared and sucking in much needed breath, whitebark pine trees spreading their branches overhead. Although the female grizzly could not be aware of the fact, each of his rapid, little thrusts, triggering an orgasm in turn, set off her ovulation, an egg released from her ovaries to meet the eager sperm he pumped into her. And every subsequent release increased the chance that she would find herself with a stomach heavy with young ready to be born in months to come.

There seemed to be nothing more for the two bears than the presence of the other as they lost themselves in their mating. A cougar could have stalked right up to them and sat down on his tail to watch and they would not have noticed. Rubbing their bodies against one another, the couple grunted, the female spreading her paws apart to support them as the dirt shifted beneath her paws, loose grains creeping between her claws. She pushed into him, ready to hold his weight even as he rested the majority of it on his hind legs, quiet and relaxed as he nuzzled up her neck to her ear.

Mating, however, had to come to an end when the male was spent; it was possible that their liaison would have drawn unwanted attention and they had to be swift. When they finally separated, they shook themselves and the female lifted one paw to pick dirt from between her claws with her teeth, tongue quickly and efficiently cleaning them. Rubbing her head against his shoulder, she grunted quietly, more vocal with him than she had been the past several months alone, for grizzlies were not vocal bears by far. But he had played on something in her that made her wish he could stay just a little longer.

As he plodded off, she assured herself with the deep seated satisfaction that she would soon have the next generation playing around her paws, a litter of cubs to care for. One or two... There was no telling how many would survive. It was a hard life for a brown bear, but it was a relief to have the interlude of mating to break up their otherwise lonely existence. The female bear scratched through the dirt, mind moving to where the best den could be located. She had much to think of as her little ones grew in her belly.

The male had fewer concerns beyond his next meal as he swayed deeper into his territory, pleasure lingering in glowing twitches as he thought of the female left behind. He would remember her fondly for many moons to come as life carried him on as irrefutably as the stream carries a twig down to the river to spin out in endless eddies within the clasp of the great lake itself. Maybe they would meet again after her cubs were grown. He lumbered happily back to the river, running full with fish, and dipped his muzzle to the clear water, waiting his chance to snag his next meal.

Or maybe he would find another female to spread his seed further.
