Jessica soon learned just how unpleasant a hangover could be. She woke up the next morning with a pounding headache and somersaulting stomach. It was a far worse experience than she had expected, certainly worse than her period, not that those were any fun. She certainly didn't feel like doing much of anything, her body aching as though she'd been in a fight. Instead, she resigned herself to spending the day recovering on the couch, wrapped in a blanket and watching Netflix.

Luckily for her, she didn't have to suffer alone. Chip eagerly volunteered to spend the day with her, doing what he could to keep her spirits up as he recovered from his own physically exhausting night. They both settled in for maximum comfort, binging on shows and moving as little as possible. And in Jessica's case, drinking plenty of water.

"This show isn't that bad, I suppose." Chip said as they wrapped up the first season of one of Jessica's favorite shows. "As far as children's shows for little girls go, anyway."

"It has writing that all ages can enjoy." Jess insisted, happily curled up in a blanket cocoon. "And there are some adults that could stand to relearn some of these lessons."

"So they have an episode about not getting drunk off your ass?"

"Sure. It's right after the episode about having one nighters with kinky doms." Jessica countered with a grin. "Heard I wasn't the only one who had a rough night."

"There is a lot of energy packed into that woman." The man admitted, chuckling awkwardly. "And a lot of juices."

"Ew. T.M.I. much." Jessica stuck her tongue out, genuinely disgusted. "I don't need to know all the juicy details."

"But it's okay for you to gossip about us?" Chip grinned, giving the fox a nudge. "These details are pretty juicy. First time with a squirter. I think that's what was happening, anyway."

"Don't wanna know." She sung, quickly loading up the next episode. "I feel nauseous enough as it is."

"Do you need me to get you anything?"

"No. I just need to stay in my warm burrito. I don't want to get up for anything today."

They managed to make it through another episode before a knock at the door disrupted their peace. "I'll get it." Chip was quick to volunteer as Jessica grumbled, sinking deeper into her blanket cocoon. He wasted little time answering the door, hoping whoever it was wouldn't disrupt the hungover fox's calm too much. He didn't hold out much hope when he met the husky waiting out in the hall, who looked both surprised and annoyed to see him.

"Who are you?"

"Chip." The capuchin replied with a friendly smile. "I'm Jessica's friend. Might I inquire who you are, and whom you are calling?"

"I'm Melody." The canine replied, not nearly as amused with Chip was he was with himself. "I'm Jim's girlfriend. So can I come in or do you want photo ID?"

"Come on in."

He stepped aside, letting Melody in without another word. Once inside, she went straight for Jim's bedroom, returning almost immediately after finding the room empty. "Where is everyone?"

"They all went out." Jessica replied. She tried not to show how annoyed she was over Melody's unexpected arrival, not even looking up at the girl. "They've been gone for a few hours though, so I'm sure they'll be back soon."

"They went out without you?" Melody smirked, feeling a bit of satisfaction with that thought. "Where'd they all go that you weren't invited?"

"I was invited." Jess countered. "I just feel... sick today, so I declined. I don't know exactly where they went. They just wanted to get off campus for a while."

It was a lie, as Jess knew exactly where the others had gone. She just didn't want to ruin the inevitable surprise.

"I guess I'll just wait for Jim to get back then." Melody decided with a shrug, sitting down on the empty couch. "Didn't drive all the way out here for nothing."

"Suit yourself." Jessica was more than happy to let Melody do whatever she wanted so long as it didn't interrupt her binging. At Chip's insistence they switched to a show more to his liking, the two pretty much ignoring the husky as they relaxed and talked about their own fan theories. All the while Melody seemed to grow more impatient, repeatedly checking the time and mumbling under her breath.

Fortunately for everyone, Jim and the others returned home soon after Melody's arrival. "Surprise!" The husky nearly lept across the room, taking the indeed surprised feline in a tight hug and kiss. "I wanted to make things up to you, so... what the hell did you do to your face!?"

"Nice to see you too." Jim retorted, though she sounded more nasal than usual. And with good reason, as a silver horseshoe piercing now sat in her freshly pierced nose. "Do you really hate it that much already?"

"I... Well..." Melody took hold of her girlfriend's face, taking a better look at the new jewelry. "I guess it's not as bad as I feared. I just don't get why."

"I think it looks great." Jessica quickly put in. "Goes good with the lip ring. But why'd it take so long to get some piercings?"

"That's my fault." Mako admitted, showing off her bandaged wrists. "I decided to get some new tats instead. Show some BioShock love. Then we stopped at Macca's on the way back. Jim wanted to make sure you ate something, so we brought you some nuggets."

"Oh god, yes!" Jess gladly took the food, only just realising how hungry she was. "Funny, usually I'm the one making sure they eat."

Jessica didn't notice it, or perhaps she just chose to ignore it, but while the others chuckled Melody was watching her like a suspicious hawk. Jessica had partially extricated herself from her cocoon in order to eat, revealing the large, familiar looking sweatshirt she was bundled in. A black pullover with an N7 emblem that she was fairly certain she'd seen on her snow leopard girlfriend. "Isn't that your sweatshirt? Why is she wearing your sweatshirt?"

"I let her borrow it?" Jim offered what she thought was the obvious answer. "I mean, I have like a dozen of 'em."

"They knew I was feeling miserable and was nice enough to give me something snuggly to keep warm with." Jessica added, removing her blanket even further as if to show off a bit. "It's super comfy. I may not want to give it up."

"So are you just giving them away to anyone now?" Melody accused the feline while purposefully ignoring Jessica. "I thought you only loaned clothes out to girlfriends."

"I'll loan whatever I want to whoever I want." Jim countered. She was in no mood to argue over Melody's jealousy and wanted to put a stop to it as soon as she could. "Does anyone else want a sweatshirt? I've got enough for everyone."

"Now you're just trying to make me jealous."

"That's apparently not hard to do."

"Well we certainly don't want the happy couple arguing over a hoodie." Flashing a cheeky grin, Jessica pulled the sweatshirt off and tossed it back to Jim. There was a brief moment of silence as everyone discovered that Jessica hadn't been wearing anything under the hoodie, her perky breasts now on full display.

"Nice tits." Melody said sarcastically, unfazed and unimpressed. "Probably need to wash this now. So babe, now that I'm here how about you and I go out and get some dinner?"

"I would but we just ate." Jim admitted, taking a bit longer to pull her gaze away from Jessica. "If I had known you were gonna be here I woulda grabbed you something on the way."

"If I had told you I was coming it would have ruined the surprise." Melody replied as if it were obvious. She was purposely ignoring Jessica, who had already covered back up in her blanket. "C'mon, I need to eat something."

"I've got food in my room." Jim offered, taking Melody by the hand. To her relief, the husky seemed satisfied with this option, the two adjourning to the bedroom without any complaint.

"I don't think she likes me very much." Jessica muttered, retreated further into her blanket. "Well, the feeling's mutual."

"You could consider her jealousy to be a form of compliment." Kari offered, sitting beside the fox. "I liked the flashing, by the way. A surprisingly bold move."

"Oh that." A soft blush lit up Jessica's cheeks. "That was just something I picked up from a friend. It was not as effective on her as it was on me though."

"Well I was impressed." Kari offered with a grin. "You should have come with us. You've got some good piercing nipples."

"They do get pretty hard when it's cold." Chip added in, which earned him an annoyed nudge from Jessica. "What? I've seen you on a cold wintery day. They're like little diamonds."

"I can't help it!" Jessica pouted, covering her chest with her arms under the blanket. "One of many reasons why I will never pierce them."

"Your missin' out." Mako chimed in, flashing her own breasts and twice pierced nipples. "They're some of my favorites."

"They look great on you. I could never do it."

"I almost did it, but decided against it." Kari pulled her own large breasts out, cradling them to best show off her pink, heart shaped nipples. "I think they're eye catching enough as is."

"They're as adorable as the rest of you." Jess admitted, reaching out to give one a quick squeeze. "So soft and squishy, too."

"I suddenly feel very inadequate." Chip said, looking at the three topless woman as he pressed his hands against his chest. "I suppose someone has to be flattest in the room."

"Just get 'em pierced, mate." Mako smirked. "Worked for me."

"Not even if you paid me."

While they all enjoyed a laugh, things were not as jovial in the bedroom. Now that they were alone, Melody wasn't holding back on her criticisms, and she had much to say about recent events. Top of her list was Jim's new nose ring, the husky clearly put off by the new addition.

"I still can't believe you went and got that without talking to me first." Melody said, eyeing the nose ring with some disdain. "This is because of last night, isn't it?"

"I decided to get it last night, yeah." Jim admitted. "We were all talking about getting piercings and decided to go get 'em today."

"Even after I asked you not to get one, because it'd make your face look weird?"

"I was presented with a convincing counter argument." Jim replied, a bit more gruffly than intended. "It's my face, and I should be able to do what I want with it."

"Let me guess, the fox told you that."

"Yeah, she did actually."

"Oh, I see." Melody sneered. "You'll do anything little miss badonkadonk says, but if your girlfriend asks you to do something..."

"It's not like that, Mel!" Jim interrupted. "I was gonna get my nose pierced anyway, because I wanted to. Jess just gave me the last push to get it done."

"She push you into doing anything else I should know about?" Though she didn't come out and say it, her accusation was plain as day.

"For the last time, I am not cheating on you." Jim insisted, clearly tired of making that claim. "I know your last girlfriend cheated on you-"

"Last two girlfriends."

"But I'm not them." Jim finished with an exasperated huff. "Not everyone cheats. You just have to trust me, okay?"

"I trust you as much as I can." Melody insisted. "It's that girl I don't trust."

"Jess has never even made a pass at me." Jess said, not feeling much comfort in her partner's assurances. "We're just friends. You don't get this jealous with Mako and Kari."

"I know them well enough to not worry." The husky explained. "Plus, they're not your type."

"And Jess is?"

"More than you know, apparently." Melody said with a roll of her eyes. "I know how much you love a thick ass."

"I love your ass." Jim quickly countered, giving said rear end a firm grope. "And it's the only one I'm interested in. I could eat it out for hours."

"Gross." Melody finally managed a smirk. "I'd prefer you just munch on my mound."

"I guess that works too." Jim conceded, managing a smile of her own. "There's plenty to feast on."

"Maybe we should lock the door and see just how long you can eat me out."

"I'd love to, but I can't." Jim sighed. "I have a whole bunch of storyboarding I want to get done tonight. I should work on my animation project, too."

"Gah! I guess that's an acceptable excuse." Melody joked. "It just sucks that I came all the way out here just to watch you do your homework."

"Sorry? I'll just tell my professors I couldn't get my work done cause I was servicing my girlfriend."

"You joke but how awesome would it be if that worked?"

"If only I could major in oral sex."

They laughed as Jim settled down at her desk to work. She was thankful the conversation had taken a lighter turn, though nothing had truly be resolved. But their arguing hadn't turned into a full blown fight, so that had to count for something. Melody didn't even seem too annoyed with having nothing special to do. As Jim worked the canine took over her bed, occupying her time with her phone and occasionally distracting the snow leopard with humorous internet posts.

Jessica joined them a few hours later, Chip having left for his own apartment. Jim was at first worried the two would start up once more, but thankfully the ladies behaved and mostly kept to themselves, Jess keeping herself busy as Melody mostly ignored her.

"So what are you storyboarding this time? Something sexy perhaps?"

"I don't think my professor would care for that." Jim admitted with a chuckle. "This is for my final project. I need to have a completed animation by the end of the semester."

"Damn, that sounds like a lot of work. They really expect you to make a whole animation in just a few months?"

"It doesn't have to be long. Just needs to prove that I learned something. So long as I hit all the requirements I'll be fine."

"I don't miss all that work." Melody admitted. "All the classes and tests and reports. It's just not for me."

"Not everyone's cut out for it." Jessica interjected as she kept busy with your own homework.

"Some things can't be taught in college." Melody countered. "Most of our infrastructure runs on jobs not taught in college."

Jessica shrugged, not wanting to concede to the husky's valid point. She didn't have to though, as Melody took her silence as an admission of defeat.

"I'm glad you decided to visit." Jim quickly tried to change the subject. "Sorry you have to spend it watching me work."

"I wish I had come sooner. I could've come with you when you got that piercing in your nose."

"Getting used to it already?" Jim asked with a hopeful chuckle.

"No." Melody admitted, rolling over to peer at Jim over her desk. "I still think it looks kinda weird. Couldn't you have just pierced your ears or something?"

"No." Jim said, not looking up from her tablet. "I wanted my nose pierced, so that's what I got."

"I still say it looks odd."

"I think it looks cute." Jessica threw in her two cents, unable to resist an opportunity to be contradictory. "It really fits your personality."

"Thanks. Maybe next time you can come with us and get something yourself."

"It's a date." Jessica turned to give Jim a wink, and to catch Melody's reaction. But the husky had become distracted with something in Jim's pillow and hadn't even heard her comment.

"Babe, what's this?"

Jim glanced up to see a long strand of hair held between her fingers. "Hair?" She replied with a shrug, acting like that wasn't out of the ordinary.

"It's not your hair." Melody said, eyeing the amber strand with distaste. "And it's certainly not my hair. It's much too long."

"It's probably mine." Jess said, already seeing where Melody was going and wanting to derail that train of thought quickly. "I sit on their bed all the time."

"Sit? Of course you do."

"She slept there last night." Jim replied, clearly annoyed with the implied accusation. "She'd had too much to drink and I wanted her close to the floor incase she got sick. And before you say it, I slept in her bed. We didn't sleep together."

"Though if we had, nothing would have happened." Jessica added in, mostly for Jim's sake. "He's a perfect gentleman and would never take advantage."

"Uh huh." Melody didn't seem quite so convinced as she tossed to strand of hair aside. Instead of letting it go, she decided instead to defend her territory, or at least knock the fox down a peg or two. "Well, she does have very high standards after all."

Jessica's fur was visibly ruffled by that comment, her tail puffing up just a bit. But she took a deep breath and refused to respond, not wanting to start a fight, for Jim's sake.

Melody was already mentally savoring her second victory. And she intended to ride that victory as she drove her point home. "Maybe I do get a little too paranoid. It's not like my girl is gonna fall for just any piece of ass, no matter how big."

"Thanks." Jim muttered sarcastically.

"I'm just saying that I know your weakness." Melody explained. "And it seems to me that I don't really have any competition here."

"Melody..."

"And it's not like anyone would have a real chance anyway, since you're with me and swear you don't cheat. It would just be a total waste of time and energy. Honestly, is there anything more sad and pathetic than someone trying to seduce someone they could never be with?"

Jessica winced, that remark cutting deeper than Melody could know. She took a deep breath, blocking out the rest of Melody's taunting as she calmed her nerves. "You know, I have been inside all day and I think I'm going stir crazy. I'm gonna head outside and get some fresh air."

"Good idea."

"It's getting chilly out there." Jim said, shooting Melody an annoyed look. "You sure you're feeling well enough?"

"I'm fine." She insisted, pulling her telescope out from the closet. "I've been dying to go stargazing anyway. Don't wait up."

Grabbing her jacket, Jessica quickly made her way out before she could say something she'd really regret, and before Melody could cut her any deeper.

"Well now that's she's gone," Melody said with a triumphant grin, "how about we get comfy and have a snack?"

She held her fingers to her mouth in a V shape, wiggling her eyebrows as she lewdly stuck out her tongue.

"I told you I can't." Jim replied with an annoyed frown. "I have a ton of work to do. And even if I didn't, I'm not exactly in the mood. Not after that bullshit."

"What bullshit?"

"You, accusing me of cheating, and talking shit about my friends."

"I wasn't talking about anyone." Melody insisted. "I was admitting that I don't have to worry about you cheating, cause there's no one around worth cheating with."

"Bullshit." Jim repeated. "You've got a problem with Jess, and it's pissing me off. I'm not cheating on you, end of story."

"I believe you." Melody said as Jim returned to work. "I believe that you won't intentionally cheat on me. But I don't trust your friends to not try and take advantage of you in a moment of weakness. They can be a bad influence after all."

"Who's a bad influence?" Jim asked, growing more annoyed by the second. "You really think I'm so weak willed?"

"Well, not when you're sober." The husky explained. "But anyone can make a mistake after one too many drinks. How many drinks did it take to convince you to get that nose ring?"

"None." Jim deadpanned. "I've been talking about getting this for months, remember? It was my own decision and I don't regret it."

"After a few drinks, and a talk with that booty fox." Melody reminded her. "Not too mention all the metal in Mako's head. It's all a subtle influence on you, so I have to keep my eyes open around them all, for your sake."

"Right." Jim sighed, not wanting to argue. "Well I do trust my friends, and I'd appreciate it if you would at least give them the benefit of a doubt. And maybe not treat them like shit."

"I didn't... fine." Melody sighed, getting comfortable in the bed once more. "I'll try to be nicer to the little... the fox. But I make no promises."

"I'll take it." Jim muttered. It felt like that was the best she was gonna get, and she didn't have the time or patience for another argument. An argument she knew she shouldn't need to have, and one that Jess had unfortunately been dragged into. Jim wasn't sure which was worse: being accused of cheating or getting caught between your girlfriend and your friends. Either way, she saw no clean way out of this mess.

It didn't even take an hour of stargazing for Jessica's temper to cool down. The words of Jim's girlfriend just felt so insignificant before the beauty and splendor of the cosmos. She had found herself an open hill on campus, far enough away from the lights to allow her a mostly unimpeded view. Not even the chilly night air could ruin her mood, the fox happily charting the stars she could see and blocking out the stresses in her life.

"Thought I'd find you all the way out here."

Jessica looked up from her telescope to see Jim walking her way, a couple cups of coffee in her hands. "I thought you might want something to keep you warm out here."

"Thanks." Jessica gladly took the coffee. "But how'd you know where to find me?"

"This is like the most isolated place on campus." Jim explained, taking a look around. "I just kinda guessed this would be a good place to look at stars."

"Yeah. I mean it's not perfect, but it's the best I'm gonna get. You wanna take a look? I've got Jupiter in sight."

"Sure. Never seen Jupiter in person before." The feline stepped up to take a look, and a momentary silence feel over them. Jessica took the opportunity to enjoy the warm coffee Jim had brought, which was surprisingly just as she liked it. Even away from the telescope she couldn't keep her eyes off the clear sky above, taking in the vastness of the heavens.

"I'm sorry, about earlier." Jim said, breaking the silence as she pulled away from the telescope. "Sorry about what Mel said. She was out of line."

"Don't worry about it." Jess replied tersely, gazing through the scope once more. "You don't have to apologize for anything."

"She was being a bitch." Jim scowled. "I don't know what her fucking problem is."

"Jim, it's alright." Jessica reiterated more firmly. "She's got jealousy issues, and you two need to work that out. I mean if you want my opinion, she seems to be more trouble than she's worth. And honestly she doesn't really seem to appreciate you as much as she says. But that's just me."

"You're not wrong." Jim admitted. "She didn't used to be this jealous or controlling. I don't know what happened."

"I'm kinda surprised she let you come out here to see me."

"Oh she doesn't know I'm here." Jim admitted. "I told her I was running out for a quick Bell recharge run. I figured that'd buy me enough time to get some air and bring you a coffee."

"Lying to your girlfriend just to see me?" Jess smirked, feeling a bit of a minor victory. "Maybe she's onto something."

"Don't you start too." Jim chastised, though she had a smirk on her face as well. "I just didn't want to deal with her shit just to apologize to you and check up on you."

"You shouldn't have to lie to your girlfriend for that."

"I know." Jim sighed. "There's a lot of shit I shouldn't have to deal with with her, but I have too much other shit to deal with already. I don't need relationship crap on top of it all."

"Well, you could just break up with her." Jess dared to suggest. "One crappy talk and it'll all be over."

"If only it were that easy. I'm not quite ready to just call it quits yet, though. We just need to work some shit out, then we'll be fine. All couples have rough patches."

"I guess." Jess shrugged, then forced a smile. "I mean, I hope so. You deserve to be with someone who makes you happy, and doesn't stress you out."

"Don't we all." Jim chuckled. "Maybe someday."

Jessica heard the snow leopard blow out a sigh, her cool eyes staring up at the heavens, though clearly her mind was elsewhere. On a sympathetic impulse, she stepped over, wrapping her arms around Jim and hugging her tight.

"What's this about?"

"You looked like you needed a hug." Jess answered, giving her a squeeze.

Jim chuckled, but didn't argue. In fact, she found the hug to be very comforting, and wrapped her own arms around the fox, hugging her right back. "I guess we all need a hug every now and then."

"Yeah." Jess sighed, smiling softly as they held each other under the cool night's sky. She was finding her own level of comfort in the embrace, and didn't let go after Jim had, the two stepping away from each other somewhat awkwardly.

"Well, uh, I should probably head back before she gets suspicious. See you, space cowgirl."

"Space what?" Jessica had to ask. "What's that from?"

"It's from... Have you not see Cowboy Bebop?" Jim was honestly shocked when Jess shook her head. "All the anime you've watched and you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop? Girl, we are fixing that A.S.A.P."

"I'd love to." Jess said without hesitation. "Whenever you want. I'm always up for anime."

"It's a date." Jim chuckled. "Now I really gotta get back. Don't stay out too late."

"I won't." Jess smiled as she watched Jim walk away. Though her smile faded as her eyes lingered, the fox finding herself wishing Jim had stayed. She quickly pushed those thoughts away and turned her attention to her telescope, chastising herself for even daring to think that way. She was determined not to make the same mistakes twice in her life. She would not go through that again.
