#21 of Discontinued

What happens when a tragedy strikes, when something so bad happens to someone that even death stays away.

This is something that I wrote up a long time ago and am just decided to post now (Read journal entry for info.) This is an intro for a new series but don't expect the series to come out soon, the series will be coming out later on after I ease up on the other series.

This story also shifts from first to third person and the shift is marked with these **

no complaints if you can't figure it out, it's not that hard.

Moving back slowly toward the edge that lead to a fall that would kill any living creature, looking over my shoulder at the night sky the wind soaring over me and the swat team infront of me with all their assault rifles leveled my way, looking back toward the fur who was shouting something at me, something about 'It's over' or 'Just step away from the edge' trying to be the movie style hero or something. Taking a deep breath looking over my shoulder once again though this time I look down toward the city below, the lights and music sounding up from the parade that was going on below, it was the new year after all and people had happy plans for the next year, big things to do.

"Big things" I say softly to myself this catching the attention of the feline who was trying to be the hero of the day, moving toward me still trying to keep me from doing anything that wouldn't be beneficial to my life expectancy, I almost cracked a smile when he said 'everythings going to be alright,' for what I've done, there is nothing that'll be alright, not for me or for the people I've harmed.

In the last year, just a small three hundred and sixty five days, I've wronged, hurt and destroyed more lives than I care to count, and within just fifty two weeks I've changed from a simple law abiding student into a vigilante who's wanted for murder, destruction of property and the pain and suffering of many, many families.

Looking down at myself finding it a bit funny that everyone loved what I did till my judgement passed over their family, I've seen and heard women on the TV and radio talk about how they were glad someone was finally standing up to crime, how they weren't going to stand by and take it but when it turned out their own were the one's who were deserving of punishment. When they found that I moved and punished those that deserved it I was suddenly the one in need of punishment, I needed to be brought to justice, such hypocritical thinking. Everyone claims that they are innocent when faced with someone that'll give them punishment, like a child does when faced with their mother after they've done something they know they shouldn't have.

Looking back at the feline, the detective, Detective Erickson I believe, I've seen his face on TV and heard his many speeches that he made claiming that the vigilante would be caught and brought to justice, that I would be caught and brought to justice. He was very confident when he stated that 'The vigilante would be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law' which in my case would be the death penalty and now here he is standing infornt of me trying to act like my best friend and get me to 'Not take my own life' but instead let the State do it for me, "Fucking Irony" I say with a smile.

Sighing as I look at the ground infront of me before lifting my two machetes bending my left arm up at a right angle and laying my right wrist over my elbow with my machete pointed toward the ground while the one in my left hand was pointing to the right just over my eyes. It was something that I made up myself, something of a symbol that installs fear in many lives now'a days and looks really cool as well. The shocked looks on the faces of the SWAT furs and the detective almost made this a perfect ending to my life, atleast I would be said to have gone out with some style.

"Now 'this'..." came my voice though they probably couldn't hear it over the sounds of the soaring wind that flew over all of us, "This is a cool death scene" and with that I slowly leaned back letting gravity take me into it's care. There were shouts from the SWAT team and from Erickson as I fell, I let my arms fall to my sides as I fell head first from the large blimp, I stared up at the stars the hood of my jacket partially hiding them.

The last words that I remember someone saying to me, something that struck me hard even though they were a few simple words they just rang out to me as I fell, 'Are you at peace with yourself...Are you at peace with yourself Leon' that question, I still don't have an answer to that even as I fall.

*One Year Ago*

Moving down the hall of the large University the human quickly makes his way into the library, he was a thin boy by any standard, he had little muscle mass that could be seen and short cut brown hair along with brown eyes, a normal looking student in the massive university full of thousands of students. Moving himself around and sitting himself down at one of the tables with a few large books, opening one quickly and quickly reading over it obviously cramming for whatever was planned for the day. Ruffling his hair in frustration before blinking as a red paw with black tipped fingers was set on the book he was quickly reading, looking up to see a female fox looking down at him with an amused smile,

"Cramming again Leon, you know that's not good for you" came her gentle voice while she took a seat across from the human pulling the book from him and looking over what he was desperately cramming for.

"Well Beth not everyone has a four-point-O grade average so lay off" came his grumbled response which only made the fox giggle and set the book back infront of the human,

"I know, I'm just the best there is" she said in mock snobbishness which seemed to brighten Leons mood before he stood and they both left the library.

This is Beth a fox obviously who for whatever reason chose me to be her boyfriend or something of the sort, I don't know if she did it on a whim or planned it out for her own reasons but we've been dating since just after the beginning of the school year, she's really smart and is one of the most popular furs in the school but always finds time for me, the lonely little outcast slash nerd. She helps me with my studies since she's one of the smartest people I know though makes learned fun and easy to understand, she's a formal kind of girl who doesn't go out of her way to show off or try to stand out in the crowd though she does it even if she doesn't know it, males stare in awe and females glare in jealousy of her.

Leon looked over at the fox who's hand he was holding as they made their way down the hall, Beth stood just under him at five eight, he was by no means the biggest human in the school though he wasn't the smallest either, Beth was wearing her normal tight blue jeans and tight blue shirt that said 'Deal with it,' though the shirt might make others assume she's uppity she was really nice to everyone. She was the normal fox colors, white on the sides and under side of her muzzle stretching down over her front and off between her legs with red right behind that, black finger tips and socks as well as a tail tip and ear tips, all and all very normal just like Leon.

Suddenly Leon winced as his left ear was twisted making him grit his teeth, turning along with Beth seeing a female dragon standing behind them with Leon greeting her,

"Uhh, hi Dana" he said with a bit of pain laced his voice as the bronze dragoness twists his ear again making him suck in air though his teeth in pain before she let his ear go giving a smile.

"Remember that when you decided to wet the halls with drool as you stare at Beth" the dragon teased,

This is Dana, the playful dragon from my childhood and my best friend, she looks out for me and always has ever since we were little and for as long as I can remember she's lived across the street from me, she was completely bronze for what I've seen of her with gold eyes to set it off and two curved back ivory horns like most dragons. She was taller than me by several inches not including the horns and was slightly more built that I am though she was always gentle when she was around me, never going too far when it came to rough housing or play fighting which she did very often. She was energetic and one the basketball team though like Beth, a whole lot smarter than I was and kept a near four-point-O grade average which I always jumped for.

Beth giggled at Dana as she twisted Leon's ear before smiling to the taller dragoness "Hey there Dana, how are you today" Beth asked with a smile while Leon rubbed his ear, as Dana and Beth talked Leon stepped away so he wouldn't risk his other ear ending up like his left. Looking over his two friends as they talked happily before looking out the windows to his left that lined up the left side of the hallway with the lockers on the right, looking into the court yard as the sun was blocked out by some of the white clouds floating through the sky.

"Hey Leon" Beth called softly gaining the humans attention, turning just in time to have Beth's arms wrap around his neck and pull him into a very public kiss, Leon ofcourse unprepared does what comes natural and kisses her back while Dana whistles out with passing by furs and humans giving stares and giggles as Leon blushed. Beth releasing the kiss with a giggle as she looked over her human friends face smoothing his hair back,

"You were daydreaming again, so I had to pull you down to earth" Leon just stared at her as she smiled sweetly to him while Dana watched from the sidelines with a happy smile.

Leon smiled back to Beth lovingly before blinking as he felt something shift, something wrong and suddenly the daylight outside was blacked out by an unknown force and Dana slowly disappeared as thunder crashed out from outside, Leon spinning to look outside seeing the sky had shifted and was now a crimson red with black clouds floating around. Looking back in slight panic and seeing that he was alone in the darkened hall, the lights having gone out leaving only a crimson hue from the sky for the only light inside the hallway.

Looking around quickly before jumping as he heard Beth's voice cry out his name in terror, turning to where her voice echoed out and dashing down the hall, he had never ran so fast in his life and as he turned to the left at the end of the hall but instantly froze. His eyes shrinking at the sight of Beth laying on the floor with blood covering her form, her neck having been tore open and her clothes ripped to shreds, her legs spread with what could only be semen leaking from her sex. Her breasts were exposed and her panties were hanging from her right thigh, her eyes were wide in terror and her mouth open slightly from her last breath, as Leon stared at Beth's body shadows slowly appeared from the walls and amused laughter sounded out.

The laughter rang through Leon's mind and dug as his heart, the shadows slowly shifted into horribly similar forms and glowing eyes slowly appeared and glared right though him as the laughter quickly began to echo louder and louder, suddenly feeling completely broken Leon clutched the sides of his head and screamed out in pain at the image infront of him with the sound of laughter being the only sound echoing through the halls and his mind.

Quickly springing into a sitting position with wide eyes and a body covered in sweat, Leon looking around in the darkness of his room and the sound of the city outside. Turning and placing his feet on the cold wooden floor before standing up wearing nothing but his boxers, moving over and turning on a standing lamp in the corner of his room letting the dim light fill the room. The walls of his room were dull, faded and peeling, his bed looking to be on it's last legs as did the dresser that sat to the right side of his bed, looking over his room before moving over the the mirror that hung on door, looking at himself seeing his toned form.

His body covered in a thin layer of sweat, his hair matted, his body was so much different from his dream, he had defined shaped muscles and his brown hair was much darker now, as his eyes shifted up his form seeing the wicked slash marks that scared his stomach and chest. His eyes slowly connected with his reflection seeing his normal left eye but his right eye having faded to a near completely white color and the large scar just above his right eye, lifting his hand and running his fingers over that scar with images flashing in his mind of what had happened before gritting his teeth in anger and slamming his fist into the mirror smashing it.

"I think it's about time...I've been waiting for far too long..." turning and moving to the side of his bed and picking up two sheathed machetes, setting them on the bed before looking at his right hand seeing the blood flowing from the back of his hand from where the mirror had cut him. Lifting his hand to his face and licking some of the blood up "Atleast I know that I'm not dead yet" with that he turned grabbing a hoodie from the top of the dresser before stopping as he spots a picture under it, a photo of him like he was in his dream, Beth next to him with her arms around him and Dana behind them sticking her tongue out playfully with her right eye closed, "I'd love to see you smile again" he said with his voice full of sadness before setting the picture down gently.
