#12 of Sirius: Book one - The Beginning

A/N: So, I took some time writing this chapter, and I really hope it shows. I've tried to get more cinematics and less action.

About the fact that my yiffs are short. This story has a formula. Unfortunately only 5% of that formula is eroticism, the rest is action, plot, romance, drama, suspense, etc. I promise you all though, the next yiff I do will take up at least two Microsoft Word pages, at least. I'll aim for more, but believe me, it's hard for me to even type this much.

*A/N: GAH! I hate it when I do that! -forgot to put the chapter under the proper series.

Warning: This story contains drama, action, homosexual relations between two men, mild abuse, slavery, violence, and a firmly established plot. If you are under the age of eighteen or do not approve of any of the above statements, then please do not read this.

Chapter 12: Hope

"Um, excuse me, Sir?"

"Yes, how can I help you Lieutenant?"

"Well, I was wondering if you've seen an fox around here; three tails, dazzling purple eyes,"

"Oh? You mean Axis? Yeah, he's here on base. He's probably in his room, uh... one-nine-four-two I think is the number."

"Thank you, sir. Excuse me please."

--

Axis was sobbing into a pillow. It had been a full hour since the incident, and he was alone again after Leon had come in to check up. He didn't even hear the door open, as the other walked in.

A hand petted the back of his head fur, and he coughed and looked up, through distorting tears, at the person who it belonged to.

Standing there before him was a tall fox, a few years older than him, with the same white coat. His eyes were a deep amber-brown, and his head fur fell over his right eye, hanging loosely around his shoulders. Axis knew this fox.

"N-no! You... you're dead!" whimpered Axis, thinking he was seeing a spirit.

"Shh, Axis, I'm very much alive," said the older fox, smiling a bit. "Hey, why the tears?" he asked, the smile fading a bit.

Axis didn't speak, but his lips were moving like he didn't believe what he was seeing. He seemed to be in shock, and he sniffed once, staring up into those amber eyes. "A-Atlas?" he croaked.

The other fox knelt down beside the bed and looked the younger in the eyes, frowning. "What? Not happy to see me?" he asked.

Axis whimpered and fell back against the wall, staring down at the other fox. "H-Happy? Why should I be happy? My mate died saving you!"

The elder fell back this time, blinking. 'Did he just- and- Jasyn?' he thought, before he sniffed at the air. The room indeed smelled of Jasyn, and the white fox blinked his red-brown eyes again, "A-Axis, you- I mean... and he?"

"Yes! Okay!? Is that what you want to hear? I was in love with my best friend, Atlas, and your coming here killed him!" cried the young, confused fox.

"A-Axis, I'm sorry but, I didn't kill Jasyn," pleaded the elder, looking very sad now.

"Whatever," whimpered Axis, curling up and crying into his knees. He needed someone to lash out at, and his brother was the perfect target right now. Normally he'd have been ecstatic, knowing that his first protector was alive, but he felt lost and alone.

"No! Axis! Jasyn could still be alive!" explained Atlas, shaking his head.

"Wh-what? How would you know?" grumbled the younger skeptically.

"I saw him eject from his ship! He's out there Axis, alone!" further explained the elder.

"Y-you mean, Jasyn is alive?" asked Axis in his slowly steadying voice.

"Possibly. If I can get my hands on a ship, we can go out and find him!"

--

In a heap of rubble lay a bruised, battered, and barely-conscious wolf. He looked around confusedly, and tried to move. Both of his arms and one of his legs screamed at him in pain, and he knew immediately that they were broken.

He heard footsteps approaching, light and quick. He called out weakly: "Help, over here!"

The footsteps stopped, he heard one of them spin, and a few moments later they started again, growing louder. There were more than one pair, but he couldn't tell exactly how many.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw red-brown. He coughed and whimpered a bit, crying out again, "Help me! Please!"

The young red fox climbed over and looked at him, and Jasyn blinked once and grimaced. He saw the figure turn and say something, but he didn't hear it. Another face, a much older fox, joined the first as Jasyn's world was going black. He whimpered, still strapped to the seat of his MPN.

"Don't worry, now. You'll be alright," he heard someone say, and he sensed that he was being lifted. He ached all over, and his limbs cried in agony, so much pain, he felt like he couldn't take anymore, like he was going to explode, and the suddenly he fell unconscious.

--

"Over here!" shouted Axis, pointing towards a piece of charred metal. "This is definitely from his mech!"

Shelby, Atlas, and Leon had joined him, and were searching around the crash site, hoping to find him. Axis coughed when he saw the pilot's chair. There was blood, a lot of blood, Jasyn's blood. There were footprints in the blood, paw prints leading away from the wreck. Axis pointed at them, "Th-there are footprints! I think he might have walked away."

"Bleeding so badly? No, he'd have to be carried... Look there's two sets," replied Phillips.

"Well! Let's follow them! He might need our help!" cried the fox.

"No, Axis, it's getting dark. If we get caught out here past sundown then we may not be able to find our way back. We'll look for him in the morning," reasoned Leon, sighing, "I want to find him as much as you do, but we have to head back."

Axis looked out towards where the trail was leading. He whimpered a bit, wanting to just go and follow them, to hell with being lost; he turned and headed back, dejectedly. "You're right... I just hope he's safe," he intoned with a saddened sigh.

The four of them headed back to the ship they'd taken and went back to the base. It was lucky for them that the Craganii pretty much ignored this sector of the ruined metropolis. Likely, they had no idea what was lurking here, or they knew exactly what was hiding.

--

A day on Siribet was eighteen hours long, to the Sirians that would be thirty-six rotations of the moon Falla. Jasyn could see the largest moon of Siribet spinning; fastest spinning moon in the system. The moment he saw the same distinguishing mark again, be it a shadow or the moon's distinctive crease, he knew a rotation had passed. He'd learned rotations from his father, so that if by some fluke he'd gotten back to the planet, he could tell the time.

It was daylight again, but the moon was still visible, going around the planet at the same speed as the planet turned. It was only visible from this continent, and the other half of the Siribet relied on timepieces, but Jasyn had observed twelve rotations of the moon, six hours, since he'd woken up. The sun had risen from the southwest, and Jasyn had a good idea why. 'The planet spins on it's axis, and the axis spins aswell,' he thought, having not much else to do.

He heard someone draw the curtains from the door, and looked over with just his eyes. Standing there was a young red fox; probably no older than twelve, with bright brown eyes and short-cropped head fur. He looked malnourished, and frail, but behind those eyes was the heart of a fighter. He looked at Jasyn curiously, and Jasyn turned his head with a grunt to look back.

Silence filled the room for several minutes, before the youth spoke up.

"You smell like foxes!" he said, matter-of-factly.

Jasyn smiled despite his pain and said, "Well, of course I do. My mate is a fox."

The youth looked bug-eyed at Jasyn and ran out of the room, calling to his mother. A very lean vixen walked into the room a while later and sat down. "You're awake I see. How are you feeling, sir?" coughed the woman quietly.

Jasyn blinked and looked at her. "Please don't call me Sir. My name is Jasyn, Jasyn Emitt. I feel all right though, how did I get here?" he replied, his strength slowly returning.

"We helped you out of your wreck, Sir. You were barely awake; your calls alerted us," explained the woman, looking timid and shy.

Jasyn groaned and sighed a bit as he strained to get up. His arms were wrapped tightly in cloth, and it hurt to move them. He coughed and grimaced before he said, "Help me up, please."

The woman walked over and helped Jasyn to sit, earning a "thank you" from the wolf. "Of course sir..." she said.

Jasyn was quiet for a time, before he asked quizzically, "Why do you keep calling me Sir?"

The woman was quick to reply, taking on a servile tone, "Because you are a wolf, sir, and I am a vixen."

"So?" countered Jasyn, "I don't buy into that whole 'foxes are weak' stereotype. My best friend is a fox, and he can out strength me."

The woman looked shocked, and blinked. "You are admitting to being weaker than a slave, sir?" she questioned.

"Slave? Axis is no slave; he's as free as I am. He's my best friend, and I'm sure he's worried sick about me."

"Is Axis his given name, or is it his fox name?" asked the woman again. She was really persistent.

"Given name? I suppose his given name is Augustus, but everyone calls him Axis anyway. He likes the name; he actually picked it for himself. He's a great guy too, strong; he has three tails you know, and the most stunning amethyst-grey eyes," Jasyn gushed. The woman took all of this in and blinked a bit.

"You mean to say, that he is treated as well as you are?" she asked.

'Very persistent' thought Jasyn, before he replied, "Well, I treat him like I would like to be treated. He's been treated poorly before, but I protect him from the worst of it. I bet he misses me, I have to get back to him!"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on there," came a male voice from the doorway. Jasyn turned to see another fox, and raised an eyebrow.

'Fox central much?' he thought, as the man walked in.

"We can't let you leave here, this place. You are wounded, and must heal," he said, his grammar very remedial.

"But Sir, I need to get back to the base. My friends are probably worried sick about me!" argued Jasyn.

Both of the foxes jumped when Jasyn called the man sir, and they looked at eachother for a moment.

"Base, where is base?" asked the man.

"The resistance, their base. My friends are probably searching frantically!" whimpered Jasyn, starting to fall back onto the bed. The woman caught him and laid him back gently.

"We'll send a messenger to wait by your wreck. If your friends come by he'll bring them back here. You get some rest though, Sir," she said.

Jasyn sighed; he wanted to be with Axis, not here, wondering if his friends were okay.

--

The two of them started to follow the tracks. Axis had requested only Atlas come with him, as he wanted to talk to his brother.

"So, you and Jasyn are together eh?" asked the elder, holding his rifle clumsily. Atlas wasn't used to holding a firearm, but Captain Reila, the Remora's captain, had insisted he take something.

Axis, however, was well adjusted to carrying a pair of rifles. It was awkward sometimes, but the long, sleek weapons were very light. "Yeah, for most of the trip here we have been, a Terran month," explained the younger one.

"So, how is he?" asked Atlas with a smirk.

"Is sex all you think about?" chuckled Axis with a sigh.

"I think about it as often as I can," chuckled Atlas.

"Hey, did you hear that?" whispered the younger brother, crouching a bit and holding out one of his rifles. Atlas took up a crouched pose aswell and held his own rifle loosely.

"Hear what?" he asked, listening carefully.

"Shh!" shushed Axis, listening for the noise.

Footsteps. There was someone approaching them. Axis quickly took refuge behind a pile of rubble and Atlas around a corner, waiting to see their stalker.

A quick, thin fox with very little muscle walked cautiously through the street. He held a knife, for whatever good that would do him. He sniffed at the air and looked around quickly. "What- no, aaagh!" he cried, as a large, lumbering hulk of a beast leapt at him. The thing had dark-crimson scales all over its body; squarish, sharp edged scales. It had a muscular tail, large spines and a huge, scorpion-like stinger on the end. It's many arms were holding the poor Sirian down as it's massive teeth inched closer to the trembling fox.

Axis only saw the one, and he leapt out of the rubble, growling. "You get off of him you ugly, bug-eyed wretch!" he shouted, and started to open fire at the creature's six insect-like wings.

The creature jumped back, off of the fox, who ran and hid behind a support beam. To Axis it's chitters and squeaks were just that: chitters and squeaks, but somehow he understood them.

"Ohh, yes. Two for the price of one! The emperor will be very pleased" it said, and leapt now at Axis. Mid jump it suddenly stopped progressing forward, and the violet-eyed fox opened fire again.

"You have no idea what power you are dealing with, you Crag Imperialist scum!" growled Axis in a deep and intimidating voice. His eyes flashed once, and he fired several quick volleys, before the creature was sent flying against a wall. The Craganii hunter's scales shattered, it's exoskeleton cracked, and it's organs fell onto the pavement.

Atlas watched all this, and looked back at his little brother. Axis had fallen to his knees, eyes closed tightly. The young fox was breathing in pained gasps, slowly turning to an easy pant. Atlas ran over and put a paw on Axis' mid-back, and Axis stood and blinked.

"What... just... happened?" he asked, and when Atlas explained it he just blinked. "You mean to tell me that I turned that lumbering pile of muscle and scales into that?" he asked, and pointed at the pile of organs.

They heard a whimper, and both of them turned to see a very frightened fox cowering behind some rubble.

Atlas spoke. "Hey, it's over now, you're safe. What are you doing out here?" he asked, and the red fox blinked up at him and practically latched onto him for dear life. It was then that Atlas noticed that the fox was only about fifteen.

"Where did you come from?" Axis asked, worried that his parents might be missing him.

"T-the shelter," was the simple response. Atlas looked at the child and shook his head.

"Could you tell us how to get there? We'll take you bac-" started Axis.

"No! I have to find someone for the master!" cried the young fox, before he let go of Atlas and started running back the way the other two had come.

Axis ran up and grabbed the youth around the waist. "Who are you looking for? Maybe we could help?" he suggested.

"I-I'm looking for a friend of the master's," came another simple reply.

"Oh? Who is the master?" asked Atlas, now coming up.

"He says his name is Jason," answered the frightened youth.

"Jasyn? Is he a wolf? Where are you going? Did he tell you who to look for?" Axis asked, firing off questions. "Did he mention the name Axis? Were his eyes-"

"Yes! He said he needed to get back to Axis!" interrupted the young fox, and Atlas coughed.

"My name is Axis! Take me to him, please!" pleaded the lilac-eyed fox.

The child squirmed and Axis let go, before the kit took off. 'Jasyn, we're coming,' thought Axis, as he and his brother followed.

"So, you never answered my question," stated Atlas with a smirk.

Axis sighed and nodded. "Very," was the only word he said, and it made Atlas chuckle.

--

"Sir, a visitor for you," said the vixen, ushering in the two arctic foxes.

Jasyn blinked and coughed, looking up at Axis. He didn't even notice the other fox at first, as his Kit ran up and kissed him feverishly. "Oh Jasyn, you scared me so much," cried the young fox, whimpering into Jasyn's chest.

Jasyn just frowned, and said, "I'm sorry Kit... I'm really sorry." It was now that he caught sight of Atlas, and he nearly choked. "I-Is that-" he started.

"Hello Jasyn," bowed the fox, smiling, "I hear you've been looking after my brother?"

Jasyn coughed a bit, nodding very slightly. "It's good to see you again," he whispered. Axis couldn't care at this point what was going on in the room; he clung to Jasyn for all he was worth, never wanting to let go.

"Kit?" started Jasyn, " Kit!"

Axis jumped up and looked at him. "Yes Jayse?" he said, and the wolf sighed and panted a bit.

"You were choking me, that's all," started Jasyn, and then adding with a smirk, "but it's good to see you too."

Atlas was talking to the vixen quietly in the doorway. "We need to get him back to the base; we have food and water there, and a proper medical faculty," explained the amber-eyed fox.

The woman nodded, and then bit her lip a bit. "Do you think, that if we went back now, we'd be treated as well as him?" she asked, pointing to Axis, who was now kissing Jasyn again.

"Well, the humans treat us pretty well. Some of the Sirians might be a bit brash to you, but you'll have some friends back on base. Why do you ask?"

"We are dying. Our children are sick and hungry. We need food, water, and competent defenders. We want to go to the base," explained the woman.

A few kits ran up to her, all female, and one of them tugged at her dress. They were all around seven years old. "Matriarch! Are they gonna' take us to the safe place?" asked one of the girls, twitching her tail expectantly.

"Yes, we'll see what we can do. You have to realize that we need to warn the others about your arrival. They'll need to prepare beds, and an escort party. Your messenger almost got eaten," explained Atlas.

The vixen gasped and shook her head, "No! Is he all right? What do you mean 'almost'?"

"Calm down Matriarch. My little brother in there saved him, we were following your tracks. You might not be safe for very long if you don't leave here anyway," calmed Atlas.

"Atlas!" called Axis from inside the room. The five in the door turned to him, "We'll need a transport. The hangar is the only way into the base."

"Do you have a radio?" asked Jasyn.

"Y-yes, we have a radio," said the Matriarch, "follow me! I will take you to it."

--

This is Lieutenant Atl-- -evi. We've fo--d Jas-n a few kilo---res west of th- --ash site. We ne-- -ou to send transports! Ov-r

"Yes, Lieutenant Levi we'll send a transport to pick you up right aw-" started Varu.

No! We ---d more than o-- -ransport! Th--- are refu---s here!

"Copy that! Commander? Send out a squadron of transports! Converge on coordinates 114 west, 10 south of here," ordered Captain Varu.

--

The transports arrived, seven of them in total. They loaded Jasyn, Axis, Atlas, the Matriarch, and seventeen other refugees on the first and took off immediately. Once a transport was filled, it took off and followed. There was a strong wind, kicking up dust all around them. The transport pilot could barely see Leon's squad of fighters in front of him, but it was an otherwise uneventful flight. Upon arrival at the base, they were greeted with a fair number of dirty looks from the other Sirians.

"We need to get Jasyn to the infirmary," said Axis. Jasyn was on a stretcher suspended between the fox and his older brother.

"Alright, come with me," said Roman, leading them further into the subterranean, but well lit base. They came to a room with several beds.

The doctor was sitting in a chair talking to one of the Sirian doctors. She heard her name called and looked over. "Yes? How can I help?" she said back.

"Jasyn's broken both his arms and his right leg," explained Atlas. Jasyn coughed.

"It's not that bad. I mean, I'm still conscious right?" asked Jasyn, looking up at the older fox.

Atlas smirked. "I have a feeling you're going to be asleep soon enough, Jasyn," he said.

"Alright. Bring him over here and we'll transfer him to a bed; could I get a paw over here, Doctor?" said Tavok.

A middle-aged husky approached, wearing the traditional Sirian doctor's vest, and nodded, "Right-o, on three then? One-Two-Three!" said the man. They transferred Jasyn onto the bed, and he grunted a bit and smiled.

"Thanks," he said, and immediately pushed himself into the mattress. Axis smirked.

"Do you think you can do anything to make him heal faster, doctor?" asked Atlas.

"Well, if we can get him into some proper casts, it should be alright. The fur might hurt as they come off though," warned the woman.

"Oh, we'll need to take some scans though, to see where the fractures are," intoned the Sirian Physician.

"Right, completely forgot, thank you Doctor Gray," said Tavok, blushing a bit.

--

Hours later after they had found that Jasyn's left arm wasn't broken, just dislocated badly at the elbow, and the actual breaks weren't that bad, they tended to his superficial wounds. He had a shallow gouge across his forehead, and a wedge had been cut from his ear in the explosion, that one would stay with him for the rest of his life, but otherwise he was fine. His fur was a bit singed, but aside from the breaks and the dislocated elbow, he was perfectly fine.

"You'll need to stay off your feet for a few weeks, and you should try not to move your arm or leg. If you can manage, do some static stretches, like tensing all the muscles in your arm and then relax them; keep up the muscle mass and such, but otherwise take it easy for a little while. We're going to bring you back to your room, don't leave your bed. I'm sure Axis would be more than happy to help you out for a week or so, right?"

"Ooh! Personal slave for a couple weeks!" Jasyn chirped, jokingly. Axis cringed, as did Atlas. "Oh come on, I was joking," grumbled the wolf.

Axis chuckled and leaned down, gifting his mate with a kiss to the cheek. "I know, Jayse," he said, and nuzzled the wolf. The Sirian doctor watched this and shuddered a bit, before walking away.

Axis helped Jasyn down the hallways to their room; awkward as it was they managed. The wolf lay down on the bed and Axis sat down and sighed. "You really worried me Jasyn," said the fox, "I don't know what I'd have done if you were really dead."

Jasyn smiled and waved for Axis to come close. The fox did and Jasyn whispered, "You'd manage. You're a lot stronger than I am."

Axis blushed a bit and hugged him. "I'm glad you're back, Jayse," he sighed, and Jasyn smiled. Even if his left arm was sore, he moved it up and held his kit lovingly.

"I'll never leave you Kit. Not in a million years, will I willingly go away from you. No matter what, I'll find a way back to you, because, Axis, I love you," Jasyn said, and they lay together like that the entire night.

Yaay! Jasyn's alive! -does the happy dance-

If I got any of the medical details wrong, then I'm sorry. I'm a writer and an artist, not a doctor, so I'm not well-versed in medicine.

There is definitely at least one more chapter in this story. I'm aiming for 14 chapters, but if I can't think of anything to do in the next chapter, I might end this book then. Remember though that I also intend to release multiple books to this storyline. I originally intended on four, but it looks like it might only be two, and then the other two will be many years later. Axis etc. will still be there, but they'll be secondary characters if I decide to follow that path.

Nothing is definite yet, and I don't have a plan for the next chapter, but I know what needs to happen in my storyline.

Comments please! ^-^ -waits for the comments to pour in-
