FBA short story - Rafael Hayes meets his new personal trainer.

All right; time for another short story special. Today's story involves Rafael Hayes, a rookie playing in the Furry Basketball Association. After finding out that he is the lightest player playing in his position, he needs to find a way to gain some weight. But, in the end, it all comes down to hiring a personal trainer. How will he react when he meets his new trainer?

This story is developed for the Furry Basketball Association - Furry Basketball

Rafael Hayes sat on the exam table waiting for the results on the current team medical exam. The coyote was dressed in only his team shorts feeling anxious about what is to be expected from this; last month he was told to gain a little weight and see how he looks after that. Of course he got some help from some of the teammates.

"Well you are gaining some weight but not in the right areas", the doctor stated as he came back carrying the clipboard. "Either way, I suggest you get yourself together with a personal trainer and get a diet plan that will work, Raffie; they will be better off than some of your teammates", the husky added.

The drive home didn't last long, living south of the stadium in Sturgis, and that gave just enough time for Raffie to think about what the doctor said. His old truck rumbled smoothly down the highway; he seemed to prefer the sound of the road rather than what's on the radio. Besides, the truck radio wasn't really working. That and with winter coming early with the upcoming snow he could use an upgrade. But that comes later; for now he just need to focus on hiring a personal trainer.

It took a few rings before the other line picked up. "Hello, Melissa speaking."

"Hey, Miss Ware, it's Raffie."

"Ah, Raffie! How are things over there in Sturgis? About to enjoy the cold weather?"

"Not really; I need to bundle up a little more when I am out on the town."

"Don't worry; I know you are capable of getting what you need. So what else can I do for you?"

The coyote seemed to pause for a moment. He does need a trainer but he doesn't know where to start. "So I got through with the team check-up and the doctor said I need a personal trainer to ensure I get a good diet. And I have no idea where to even start looking for one."

"Leave it to me. I think I might have someone that's perfect for you!"The doe on the other end of the line hummed a little before getting back on the line. "There is someone I know of that is close to the area. I'll give them a call and let them know about you. You should expect them by the end of the week."

"Wow... thanks..." the coyote seemed a bit surprised that his agent could find someone so quick and in the area.

"And that's why I am your agent. I can help you out in many ways. See you later."

The rest of the week was an easy week for the coyote; one game against Tallahassee and practice. No travels this week. At the start of the break Raffie was working on morning stretches out at his backyard when he heard his phone chimed for a text. He headed to his phone and turned it on to see who it was from.

'Hey, Raffie, your trainer will be coming over today. Don't go anywhere. Melissa'

Raffie sighs a little not really knowing that to expect. His agent might have hooked him up with a brute tiger that could fold him up or a tough bear that could be a drill Sargent. The number of options that could come to his door was made him more nervous than excited. It wasn't until a few hours later when he heard the door bell ring. "Well, this is it" he said to himself as he walked to the door and opened it, expecting a big tall male.

"Hello, you must be Rafael. I'm Jackie and I am going to be your personal trainer."

He had no idea what was more shocking to him; the fact that the trainer is a female or the fact that the female is a roadrunner. "Um, hello... come on in...", he had to take a moment to take it all in. He watched as the roadrunner entered the house and take off her coat.

"It's a bit chillier than I thought it would be. Good thing I packed warmly." She stood as tall as the coyote and was dressed for the cold weather including the leg warmers. "Let me warm up a little and then we can get started."

Raffie closed the door and watched the roadrunner for a while longer before making his way to the living room. "She hooked me up with a roadrunner?' he asked himself kinda loudly.

"You have been watching too many of those cartoons, have you?" she smiled at him as she stretched out some. "Don't worry, kid; it will be nothing like that. Unless you want me to give you Acme products."

"Oh, no no! I'm not that type of person!", he shot up nearly feeling embarrassed about that.

"You know I'm just kidding. Anyways, let's take a look at your kitchen first and see where we can go from there."

Inside the kitchen Jackie looked through the refrigerator and cabinets, taking out various foods and throwing them away. "These won't do for you. The energy and protein bars really doesn't work as well as it should so we're going to go shopping and we're going to make a protein dish that should get you nice and bulky", she explained to him. Raffie could only nod and watch as the food he normally eat is being thrown out by this avian trainer. Once the inspection is over she tied the bag of food and carried it outside to the trash can. "And that's that. Now we go shopping."

"Now?" Raffie seemed a bit confused as he watched her come back in and put on her coat.

"Yes, now, before it is all forgotten. Don't worry; I have a shopping list prepared. This will work for you" she replied while making sure she is bundled up. "We're taking my truck. Yours is..." It took her a moment to find the right word for his old truck. "Rustic?"

"Hey, it's my baby!" the coyote retorted as he grabbed his coat and followed her outside to her Land Rover. "Wow, that's a big truck for a gal like you."

"Thanks. It suits me well", the roadrunner smiles as she unlock the doors to let themselves in. The truck itself smelled new and looked clean as if she is the only person using it. "A year into it and it has done well especially in this midwest weather. Trust me; you will need a Four-Wheel drive with this upcoming weather. Anyways, let's head on out." She turned on the truck and drove away from the house for what will be an interesting experience for the coyote.
