The next day Angel informed the others he was now leaving to tell the other dragons. He traveled to each home of dragons he knew of that should be occupied. They were not. He then came to the home of the oldest. The one three centuries old. Old for even one back when the dragons flew as alpha predators. Which he watched the end of. Now he hides in his winter hideaway deep in the mountains where the humans never bothered to go to. Immediately upon landing Angel smelled rot. Tracks of both humans and dragon mixed with each others were set in the snow. He entered cautiously and took advantage of the color of the stone as he moved deeper down the ancient path.

As the stench of decay drew worse he saw another dragon picking up some of the gold that belonged to the old one, whose body laid still in the middle of the room. It was well known that he had the most of them and now all that remained was being carried by the dragon who just spotted him. Angel left his hiding and nodded. " You can't have any. We are the ones that found him dead."

Angel grew a little confused. " We? I don't know what you are speaking of. I am just going around to tell those that refused to be pets the rules of being the human pets."

The other dragon became confused then said, " Then it will be difficult to find the others gathering spot if you think we want to just remain as we are and die. As you have we have gathered to survive."

Something in Angel made him worry. An instinct that he has long forgotten and never used. Something that made him remember why the humans took the alpha predator position. It was rivalry within the groups of dragons that made them fall. Yet he still had that desire to see other dragons than himself that had came to be in his whole life. So he ignored the ancient instinct. " Will you lead me to them? I'll help you carry the gold if you do."

There was a bit of hesitation before he agreed. For a week they continued down south from where they were. Oddly they flew high without fear. It was mid-day when the other dragon started descending into a great human dwelling. One larger than the one Lady has. It as well still had humans inhabiting it and he grew worried. The humans backed away from him in fear as he entered the main dwelling behind the other.

Soon he came across the things Daniel told him of the other dwelling had, but they seemed ill taken care of. The light was dimmer as he was told as well. He then came to the central room that had large amounts of gold in it. The dragon leading put what he was caring down in a pile and Angel set what he had on top of that. " Remain here. I will summon the others."

Angel settled down and started admiring how much gold was around as well as observing the human dwelling and what it contained. It was some time before another dragon entered and then a second. Two more after them and soon the whole room was full of other dragons. Sixteen by his count. Including the one that ate the horse. Then the other without wings and a scar below her eye sat in the place of honor. " So you came yourself. Surprising she would let her favorite pet go."

Angel grew a little confused. " You know how things are done. You don't eat anything in others land until you have permission. You brought your punishment on yourself."

She snorted. " I am not some pet. I am the leader of these lands. I eat what I want and I get what I want."

Angel grew surprised as he said, " Very well. This is your home. I have not ate sense I entered your lands and the one that brought me is witness I merely came to inform..."

She growls madly, " Silence. We care not what the pets of humans do. Because it will not matter."

Angel grew even more confused and very worried. That instinct that told him of danger was urging him to run. Yet he remained because these were dragons and the dragons have always helped and trusted each other sense the humans began to be alpha predators. At least he thinks so. That has been true for his whole generation. He nods his head in respect and said, " Then I have no need to be here and will go home. I will not eat until I leave your lands."

She stands up. " You are not leaving yet."

He was starting to turn away but stops and looks back. Four that was behind him grab him and restrict his movements. She moves closer. " I wager you think it odd why I have them hold you down." She starts to circle him like a predator " You see I ate the leader of this dwelling."

Angel shifts his head on his other side to see her. " By then a few others were thinking the same as me but I did it first and so I was made leader. The humans are my pets because I have ate many of them and all that have tried to kill me. None of them try it anymore. However I can't take joy in my accomplishment by flying over those that fear me."

She moves to one of his wings and rubs it a little before breaking it. Angel screamed in pain. Knowing that he could do nothing to stop her. " So I have decided that if I can't fly then you can't as well."

She moved over to his other wing as she spoke and broke it as well. This time he growled in anger " But then I got to thinking. Why stop there? Lift him."

He was forced to be lifted on his hind legs. She moved under him. " Your timing could not be better. I am in season and you are aroused."

He was lowered on top of her but was kept from properly mounting. He did manage to keep from doing more to her however. She grew mad. " You four begin in front of us. Make sure you get it quickly. I want him in me now."

Two other females and males start mating in front of them. Angel could no longer resist as he started moving but quickly tried to stop but another continued pushing and pulling him in her. " Why?" he demanded.

The female answered. " Because I can."

A pain washed over him and she enjoyed it. He was moved off of her. " Don't worry I won't kill you. As you did to me I'll make you a warning. Either come to us or die as the pets they are."

The last thing he saw was her talons entering his eyes.

" Daniel come quickly." One that was on patrol said.

It was his day off and he was with the now pregnant one. Her belly half expanded of the full size it will be. It had been seven and a half months sense Angel left to tell the others of the rules of Lady land. He left the mother of his whelps reluctantly. " What is it Karla?" he asked out of the mother's hearing range.

" It's Angel. He is back."

Daniel was glad of the news. All these duties of being leader have started wearing on his patients. Every complaint of a human or dragon was his alone to settle. So far he managed to get things right so far. " That is good. Where is he?"

Karla grew sad. " You must see for yourself."

So the two left the cave and descended into the great dwelling below. There he could already see him but could not believe what he saw. Another was putting meat into Angel's mouth so he would be able to eat as Lady held his neck. Angels wings were gone and bandaged where they were broken off and eyes were covered in cloth. None wanted to know what happened but Daniel must know. For the safety of the dragons and humans he must know. " Angel."

Angel turned his head rapidly in several directions until Lady moved his head to the right spot. " You must tell."

Angel lowered his head slightly before saying, " Angel sorry. Bad dragon come. Bad dragon many human pet. Bad dragon come. Kill Lady. Kill good human. Kill pet dragon. Angel go oldest. Oldest dead. Angel found one take oldest gold. Angel no know fallen dragon. Fallen trick Angel. Angel trust old dragon way. Angel help carry gold. Angel practice old dragon way. Old way die oldest dragon. War come. Dragon lead human. Angel scared. Angel hurt. Angel tricked... Angel raped Darkened female."

He started wailing in pain. Daniel was as sad as the others but he must know more. " Angel talk more."

he said very sorry. Angel looked downward. " One Angel took wing. Mark shamed Darkened female. Female lead war. Mad female no pet. Made human dragon pet. War come. Angel pain great. Angel weak tired. Angel grow strong protect lady." He then said loudly, " Dragon grow strong. Protect Lady. Protect home. Protect good human. Protect future." He then laid his head on Lady's lap. Daniel took charge. " Move away. Angel rest. Dragon grow strong. Protect Angel talk. Dragon go do."

The dragons each move to an open area and start flying. All the humans but Lady moved away. " Daniel sad leave. Daniel be strong. Protect Angel Lady Father land good human home Daniel child future."

He then leaves Angel, who had not moved but to breathe, was left alone with Lady. It was several hours before he moved again. He raised his head and Lady immediately noticed. " What is wrong Angel?"

He moved slowly to find her chest and left his nose between her breasts for a moment before moving back and saying, " Angel no good pet. Let Angel die. Why Angel live no protect? Angel pain no protect Lady."

She grew surprised. " You once said, ' Angel protect Lady. Lady protect Angel.' So how am I suppose to do that if you don't give me the chance?"

Angel became surprised then gently laid his head back on her lap. She pushed him off of her. " You want to die then die but don't you dare expect sympathy from me if you do because you can't see or fly."

Angel became surprised as he stood and started walking away. He didn't take three steps before tripping on something. He starts to cry to himself then stood again. " Angel no wish die Lady. Angel lost no see no fly."

Lady became madder. " I can't see or fly. Is there anything wrong with that?" Angel became very confused in that he was exactly like Lady now. Who he expected so much from. " Lady smart. Angel stupid. Angel need smart live. Angel live protect. Angel be glad protect."

He moved closer to her until she grabbed his nose. He followed her touch back to where he was. It was a moment before Lady stood. " Follow me angel. It is growing cold out and I am tired."

He stood again and followed Lady back into the human dwelling. He hit many things on the way to where she was leading him. Which was to a place with very soft bedding. " Go on and lay down on it."

He did so and found it very comfortable. So much he was tempted to go to sleep. Till Lady came to him again and touched his side. She explored him till she reached his arousalness. " My you are glad to be with me aren't you?"

Angel became confused in a way he never could imagine. She continued to touch him there and soon he felt it wet. Much like when the Blackened one had him. Angel was aware of what was happening but he blocked it out because of the painful memory. As the smell of mating filled his nostrils he started to move like he did the first time. Then he was aware this was different. When he stopped he was not forced to continue.

None held him down. He must be having a dream. Then the dream continued and he began to enjoy it. He moved to be over the female and started becoming more passionate. He became aware of the females limitations and kept himself to them. The female remained quiet so so did he. For several minutes he went on enjoying the dream until a pain like before occurred. This time the pain did not hurt as in being used. Just of mating. He moved off the female and shifted the bedding to be more comfortable. The female moved beside of him and began to rest as well.

The next day reports of the army came from the dragons on patrol. They could only at a distance because of the dragons in their forces. Their numbers were great. In three weeks time they were threw the wood and heading for Camelot burning and pillaging the whole way. When they arrived they met an army with dragons as well. Dragons that did not hide. Dragons that stood beside humans as equals. As friends. As trusting neighbors. Dragons that kept their heads high as they stood. Already three have been caught and slain trying to hide among the stone of the great dwelling because the good dragons could spot their own very easily.

The tactic the invaders relied heavily on would not work. Now the defending dragons outnumbered the invading ones. It took less than a day for the Darkened one to loose patients and order a full assault. All advantage was with the good dragons except a crucial one. They faced superior human numbers. Bolt and arrow, stick and stone, and oil and fire was used until depleted. Those in front of the invaders fearing death from the front.

Those in the back fearing the hungry jaws that awaited them. Now the ways of old dead for the dragons they no longer mind killing and not eating in this one instance. This one thing that the dragons grew excited over. Battle. Long forgotten how it was done it looked more like a dance in the sky than a fight to the death. Yet as the humans broke like waves against the walls of the great dwelling the dragons kept the sky clear. Being stronger and more calm of mind then their fallen brethren. Who relied heavily on the belief their opponents were fat and lazy pets and their savage instincts. One by one they fell to their deaths.

Yet the dragons experienced loss of two as well by the time none flew in the sky again. By the end of the day the Darkened one led the last push into the dwelling. Loosing near all that remained to be successful. The Darkened dragon was not the only dragon with them left however. There were two others, whelps. They only payed attention to remove the obstacles in their way as they entered the main part of the dwelling. Leaving those she led to die. She eventually came across what she sought. Angel was in the main eating room. Which was cleared of its content. Lady with a short spear behind him and Maid with a child behind her. " So this is where you hid. I'm sure you would have been outside... Maybe even dead but cowering in a human dwelling? This I did not expect."

Angel growled some anger then heard the whelps hissing. He grew surprised. " Yes, Angel their yours. They foam at the mouth quite nicely and eat human meat as much as I do. I will enjoy it when they eat that child behind you."

Angel turned slightly not surprised in the Darkened one approaching. By now he knows every stone of the floor they were on. He could tell where things were by the echos of sounds. He felt where his opponents were. Angel recalled rule three in his mind. Human before dragon. A dragon will put the needs of the humans even before his children. These were his children but then they were not. These were spawn of evil. Of a darkness that must be removed from the world and all dragons. This would bring him pain but if they are as she said then he will do what must be done.

Even if it was not he could not let them live anyways. They were of an age of remembering. They would hate him for killing their mother. Which all dragons are closer to than their fathers. They would destroy what he sacrificed to build. What so many sacrificed to build. The Darkened one's spawn could not live. As leader... as father... as Lady's protector... as raped... as pained as he would be; no he will be the one to do it. It began. She leaps toward him and he avoided her with ease. Surprising her. Even more when she noticed the pair of whelps in his claws. Both necks snapped as quickly as could be done. He set them gently down before going after her. Angel made a mistake. He was no longer between the Darkened one and Lady. He heard the Darkened one move but nothing else afterwords except Maid scream in pain and Edward begin crying. " Lady?" Angel asked. He got no response he was not already hearing. " Angela?"

He asked again. He began to hear something dripping amongst the crying. The scent of blood became heavier. He moved to his child and felt the spear point before it did damage. He felt it downward and felt it exit threw the Darkened ones neck. On the other side Lady had talons threw her chest and Maid with the other claws threw her back. Angel picked up his child and carried him with him outside. There were cheers from both humans and dragons of a battle won. Angel roared trumping all others. They all began looking at him. " Edward hungry. Surrogate."

They all became confused. King, Knight, and Daniel came to him. King asked, " The surrogate we had is with the others. It will take time to get her. Have my daughter feed him."

Angel almost let the baby suckle his blood covered knuckle before extending it to King who wiped it off for him. " Knight get surrogate Lady not able to feed Edward." There was silence as they began to move. Except Daniel. " If Lady gone who we pet to?"

Angel looks his direction then down to the child. He begins growling. " Your mother was very brave. She killed the Darkened one all by herself. She was a good human. A human to admire. I admired her very much. She was pretty and not afraid of anything. The first time I met your mother I knew I wanted to be with her. Deep down where I did not want to admit. Now look human and dragon friends. There no pets. We work together to live. Make living better."

Blood started coming from the ends of Angels eyelids. " I will miss her. She has taught me so much about living life. I gave her a reason to live. Now here you are. Precious Edward. I do not know if you are of age of remembering but you will be leader of many. I will help raise you. As I have been. I will be there for you because... because you are my son and I am your father. Know that no matter what I care for you. I care for you like I cared for your mother. Yet she died because of my pride. She died because I was tricked into killing our spawn to give her an opening to..."

Angel turned his head away. He could not continue. " She was not afraid to do what she believed was right."

Daniel said continuing on where Angel left off. " She is the reason why the dragons live to fly high with human friends. She was glad when with Angel."

Knight returned with the surrogate. Reluctantly Angel gave the near asleep child to her. Blood still coming from behind Angels eyelids. Daniel growled to not be understood. " Is he really yours?.."

Angel looked toward him. There was no need to answer.
